Hotel Santa Monica

I'm 18 and ive been Santa Monica Hotel about 2times now and going there today actually. It's not too bad to be honest. They have activities during the day, not bad meals and great entertainment at night. So its like even if you don't happen to meet anybody they do cater to everyones taste. They have like an adults room with television and computers with internet. They have notices of when good films will be on. The bad points are that Santa Monica Hotel is popular with kids younger than myself and becuase its popular can get a bit noisey. For example if you want to chill and relax in your room you could but beware of the noise outside the walls are so very thin and can hear next door and can get quite annoying. What else? Nightlife isn't bad either have decent clubs but beware of the strangers they can get a bit friendly if they've had a bit too many so maybe wise to take someone with you. Shopping is great. All round 7/10 i'd give.

Just back from our holiday in calella and we must say we had a great time!!....considering we were worried after reading some bad reviews.
hotel santa monica did look a bit shabby (AS STATED IN SOMEONES REVIEW) on arrival but rooms, reception, dining, bar, pool etc were immaculate and clean although abit old fashioned, all staff were lovely and very friendly, entertainment was a hoot every night!!... cheesy but fun!! our rep was funny and friendly and although we never needed him for anything we often seen him around the hotel.
santa monica hotel is in good location....2min walk to the beach, 40 mins on the bus to barcelona and about 35mins to waterworld which every1 must go too...what a laugh!!
for all the people whinging about this place they must be very snobby as we had a chilled and great time....am=nd as for people complaining about the food....you have to take into consideration the amount of guests they are catering for and not only that there is alot of different nationalities to cater for!!!! so if you want a relaxed fun holiday with great days out.....i would reccomend!!

we went for a two weeks holiday and we did not have to complane at all it was fantastic the food was great they have a wide selection for adults and for children they had something diffrent for every night if you children dont like any thing there is a small macdonalds just down the road about 5 minutes but i must say the food was great the staff are really frendily and soo helpful we had no problems with them the room were spotless they were cleaned every day first thing in the morning the housemaids were lovely and a good laugh! you can get a sea view if u ask when u book your hols at the first the entertainment was brillant! they have something for the children through the day and they have a mini disco and games at night and the entertainment for the adults was brillant too so go to SANTA MONICIA HOTEL ITS THE BEST SO FAR!!!!

Fantastic holiday, our second stay at a Med Playa property and we where not disapointed. Our first impressions where not great the hotel looked very shabby and dated and the pool was tiny however other than appearences the holiday was fantastic.
The food was great with a reasonable choice of dishes each evening and always leaving ourselves with the option to dine out, however as the dinners where so good there was not any reason to dine else where.
Breakfast was ok, a great choice of cereals, toasties but the cooked breakfasts where not all that good
The entertainment was ok, but I was disapointed that Fernadi appointed prizes and certificates to guests he had become friendly with as opposed to other holiday makers who genuily attempted to join in games and mini discos.
Calella is a fantastic, clean resort and if your looking for a friendly British pub serving good food with a very friendly welcoming atmosphere head for "alcatraz"

I have been back from santa monica hotel now for just a week i went with my best friend and her mum and dad, what an amazing holiday! I loved every minute of it and would go back! The staff are all friendly and speak good english if they are spanish including Fernando and Maggie the hotel entertainers! There are games to play in the day e.g bowling, darts, aiming games, water polo etc! The pool is cleaned everyday which is good! The food is very good, there is always different choices of foods to have and even if you dont like anything there is always chips at dinner! There is also a good choice and breakfast!
The walls are thin yes but remember its a 3 star hotel and most of these people who give bad comments were born to moan! And there is bound to be kids about its the school holidays!
I went to Barcelona and the train station is 15 minutes away i can't understand why people expect everything on their door you would complain if it was too close and could hear the trains!!
The one thing i didn't like was Sean the thomson rep i found him very annoying and was crap! All he did was laugh at his own jokes!! ZZZZ
I haven't been in a hotel for a few years now because i've been going to a villa but it was very good and i'd def go back next year!

Before going to the santa monica after reading these reviews i was abit scared to go, seeing as everyone had complained!!! But, after staying for two weeks, i really enjoyed myself, and will find myself going there again next year!
I don't know what people find to complain about, yes the walls in the room aren't very thick but what do you expect? Massively thick walls like at home?
The best time to go is before school holidays or after as many children go, the only complaint i have is how the English act, i am ashamed to call myself "English" when in Spain.
The staff are very friendly and helpful, if you have a problem they deal with it straight away unless you are rude.
One woman had left her bracelet in a room and they called her room number to reception to collect it which i find very good and helpful.
The entertainment team is great, gives you a chance to get our the sun, friendly enough and get the kids out of everyones hair, if they are annoying.
The food is fine, obviously you are not going to get English food as you are in spain, there were many types of food avaliable fish, fideau (a local dish), paella and two soups on each night, chips every night for people who are scared to eat spanish food and meat and gravy on from the chef. Lots of puddings and much more choice at breakfast.
We were lucky to have a pool view which some people weren't however you can request this when booking!!.
Before we left, we took our bags to the luggage room and used to facilities to shower and get ready for our journey home, which is found very helpful and a good way to refresh after sunbathing.
The pool is not small, if you worked out that if it wasn't that shape it would be quite big, and no inflatables are allowed which gives you more room to swim, myself and my friend had plenty of room to swim and play in catch in.
The bedroom is cleaned every day, fresh towels every day and whilst we were there our beds were changed at least 3 times, the t.v reception isn't great but not many people stay in to watch t.v when on holiday so it doesn't really matter. The beds are uncomfy but after 2nights your back soon gets used to them.
Hopefully you'll take notice of this reviews and not the other ones, you'll have a good time if your a fun outgoing person!! :)

After having read all these reviews i can say that i cannot agree with all these negative ones.
three friends and me spent 10 days/nights in the santa monica hotel and except for some guests it was a nice stay.
The employees reception were lovely, the food was okay (quality mediocre,selection awesome!) and the whole complex was nice.
The cleaning ladies were more than tidy and really polite and curteous and the rooms were in an awesome condition.
Like already said, the negative thing were a lot of guests from a country i really don't want to name here.
They were scared of not getting enough to eat in the evenings and full of prejudices against other nationalities.
The santa monica hotel was filled with guests like that,unfortunately.

Coming back from a 2-week holiday at Santa Monica I immediately started looking for a way to stop people from getting the kind of disappointment that my wife and I had. I did not know about this forum. Now as I do, I see that there have been warnings about this hotel from people in past. So, I will confirm what other people have said and add evidence to why I would like to recommend you to spend you time and money elsewhere.
A representative of Thompson, who I found arrogant, was trying to manipulate the tourists to give excellent feedback for him and the hotel! He insisted that this was the best hotel at Calella! What a shame! I also find it irresponsible from Thompson to put incredibly biased and misleading reviews about this hotel on their webpages.
The walls between the rooms are indeed paper thin. You can hear everything next door. Next door there could be small children or couples with family problems. That’s not the worse that can happen though. The hotel accommodates many teenagers on school trips. When you are on your annual holiday where you have gone to recharge your batteries for another year of hard work, and for which you have spent a considerable amount of money, the last thing you need is to be exposed to the behavior of these youngsters been left without control, day and night.
The rooms are furnished with poor quality beds – I noticed some people were complaining from back pain. The 12 inch TVs have poor reception. Many of the rooms, like ours, face a busy road. It was difficult to ignore the incredible noise from the traffic, blending with that produced by our neighbors. There was even small building work taking placing at the back of the hotel. There are two lifts, too little for a large hotel. Many people spent a lot of time waiting for them.
The hotel is located almost at the south end of Calella. Hence, if you would like to visit Barcelona or other places you face a long walk to the station. The hotel has a small swimming pool. The beach is indeed near, but the sand is sharp and gritty and the sea bed is steep only a few feet out in the sea making it dangerous for small children and people who are not good swimmers.
I don’t want to say that everything was horrible. I noticed the effort of some of the hotel staff to do their job well. But frankly, the basics were not there. I have now read a number of reviews by other people. I have to say that I did not find any of the criticism unfounded, while I did find some of the compliments undeserved.

Just back from a 4 night stay at the Santa Monica hotel and i won't be going back there in a hurry.
The noise levels at night were awful people running up and down slamming bedroom doors screaming, paper thin walls you can here people blowing their noise, going to the toilet, walking aroud they might aswell be in the same room.
Small pool area - how many sunbeds can you pack around one pool all ontop of each other, bins over flowing around by the pool - although good cocktails at the bar.
I can say the hotel did have a good food selection so can't complain about that and the hotel reception staff were VERY helpful at all times.

Actually cannot believe i have read over the past year so many continuous bad reviews about the hotel Santa Monica, I stayed there last year with my ex girlfriend and had an incredible experience. For ALL people who scour through these reviews with a fine tooth comb, DO NOT!!! i repeat DO NOT listen to what the reviews below a 8 say! The hotel is lovely for its price, i paid 250 last year to go and was thoroughly impressed with what i got for my money, im going back again this september with my two best friends because i enjoyed the hotel and Calella de la Costa so much. Please all you bad reviewers and family people who have no open mind, DONT bother opening your mouths about the Santa Monica, because you have no idea about what a true Catalunyan holiday is all about! You do not waste 7 days on sun loungers! You go out to the beach, shops, trips and make the MOST of your holiday! For all people travelling to this destination i wish you a safe happy holiday, and i hope i see at least one reader of this review on my week long trip there on the 9th september 2008!!!! ENJOY! food is spectacular, big variety everyday, clean rooms everyday, friendly staff, cracking entertainment (well it is spanish!!!) and Calella itself is an amazing location because of its rural beauty, ADIOS!!!
