Tryp Port Recommended
We stayed for an early spring break and from the moment we arrived at the hotel found all staff particularly helpful (especially Raul on reception) The rooms have good heating controls and trains really are not a problem. There is a good breakfast buffet but as with all buffets I think they lack imagination. Taxis are readily available to and from Reus airport. The train station is just over a mile away but a comfortable walk. Room cleanliness and facilities were excellent. Even though the evening Ryanair flight is a quite late arrival you can find restaurants still open and serving dinner. I can thoroughly recommend a restaurant name Lekeitio at Cambrils Port. There are tapas at reasonable prices and the fish represents very good value too. Service everywhere was spot on and I can't help thinking the Spanish could now teach us a thing or two.
A very smart hotel
Stayed in this hotel end March and was very impressed with everything about it. Location: central to resort and just a few minutes from the beach. Facilities: very good and well managed. Rooms: large and with plenty of drawer space. Worth paying a little bit extra for a sea-viwe room. Or if you realy want to, book a suite! The meals were Spanish orientated but still excellent. I liked being able to ask the Chef either to cook an omlet for breakfast or a steak for dinner. If you enrol for a Sol Melia Mas card you get extra 'goodies' like a free newspaper,as well as earning extra points for your stay which you can use to book extra 'free' days for further bookings. If you want brash evening entertainment and English beer then this is not the hotel for you. And Cambrils is such a lovely, quaint, fishing port.
Weekend In The Sun!
My wife and I had a long weekend away to Spain courtesy of Ryanair. After looking at reviews on Trip Advisor, we made a booking to stay at the Tryp Port Cambrils hotel. Our journey from Reus airport was a little scenic, due to missing the correct road. However, it did allow us to view the evening bussle of Reus town... Arriving at the hotel, we discovered that the hotel had underground parking, charged per day, or you could park free on the road outside. Throughout our stay we found the staff to be friendly and courteous at all times. The food was 1st class, served buffet style, with a simply amazing range of foods that would satisfy any diner. We had planned on eating out, but we were so impressed, we ate in whenever we could. Minus points? Well, very few. After bathing, the bathroom had a nasty odour of drains, having said that, the maid obviously knew how to deal with the problem, as it was gone by the time we returned to the room, and the smell never returned. The bar and lounge area we found to be rather smokey in the evenings. No real escape for the non-smoker, if you wanted a social drink. Ah yes, the trains! Well, that did worry me when I read the reports before we left home, but as reported elsewhere, it was not a problem at all. What trains there were, did nothing to spoil our break. Overall the Tryp Port Cambrils is an excellent hotel, certainly amongst the best we have stayed in. We would stay there again, if we were in that part of Spain again.
Nice Tryp
My husband & I stayed for 1 night in November so hotel was very quiet. Rooms were clean and food OK. I am not a great fan of buffets but breakfast was good and dinner satisfactory. I must say I found the reception staff exceptionally helpful and friendly. Everyone went out of their way to assist with any enquiries. They also allowed us a late checkout with no additional charge. Overall good value with staff who deliver first class service.
great peaceful hotel and resort
We have just returned from 2 weeks holiday at this hotel. It was great. Food excellent with a good choice, particularly the deserts, beautiful pastries. Show cooking was great and the chefs pleasant. Very clean hotel with plesant and helpful staff. Entertainment was non-existant but that may have been because we were there late September, early October. The pool was very cold and closed from the begining of October but this was not a problem for us as the hotel is situated a short walk from the beach where we spent most of our time. Cambrils has mostly spanish people and many of the menus in the nearby resturants and bars are written in spanish with very few in English. The resturants appear to be expensive and specialise in fish menu. We were half board at the hotel so we only had a light snack in the afternoon. Cambrils is very peaceful and it is lovely to go for an evening walk around the port. It is also nice to go to the port between 5-6pm to see the local fishermen sorting out the fish and unloading their boats following a day's fishing. The resort itself is very quite (although may be due again to the time of year). Solou which is a more livelier resort is about 1 hour walk away. Buses (plana) run about every 20 min between the resorts and cost E1.20 per person. The buses also run through out the night although not as frequent and a little dearer about 4 or 5 euro. The bus stop is a short walk away from the hotel. The noise of the train was not a problem for us, although it does run very close to the hotel.
Strongly recommended
My wife and I stayed here for 2 weeks returning on 1-10-05 and we were extremely impressed with the quality of the hotel and the helpful staff. Not good for children but that's a bonus! Very Spanish resort with relatively few Brits - another bonus!! Hotel part tourist, part business with relatively few facilities but food excellent and rooms very comfortable. Train noise not an issue to worry about although Victor Meldrew may disagree. Visited Brit end of Salou whilst there - difference could not be more marked - if this is what you want however then do not stay in Cambrils - please!! Highly recommended.
Cambrils
Stayed at this hotel in June. Ideally situated to explore Cambrils. Food ok, varied choice, but restaurant a little bland and bright for the evening meal. Rooms excellent, as was the air conditioning. Our room and balcony overlooked the pool (and often the entertainment) which was a pleasant place to sit and enjoy an evening drink. The noise from the train line is really minimal and not a problem at all. A short walk to the bottom of the road and you are at the beach. Went to Salou last year, and think Cambrils is more upmarket and more Spanish. It was a Spanish holiday when we were there and it was lovely to see the Spanish families promenading back and forth in the evenings. Would definately go back to both Cambrils and this hotel.
excellent hotel close to wonderful beaches and restaurants
Hotel well worth a visit. Excellent food and staff very friendly. Hotel recently built hence very modern and well furnished rooms. Would definitely recommend a stay here and we did'nt find the trains a problem. Cheap trainride to Barcelona and Tarrogona.
Very Classy With A Friendly Atmosphere
We stayed here in June 2005, unfortunately for just a short stay as we were travelling onwards. But the hotel was one of the highlights of the holiday - bright, modern, with reasonably sized air-conditioned rooms (although the balconies are tiny) and staff who could not possibly be any friendlier or more helpful. Other reviewers have mentioned how close the hotel is to the railway line, but we found the noise from that to be minimal. Certainly better than in Salou where you can have street noise all through the night. This hotel is quietly situated and Cambrils itself is much more upmarket than Salou. In all, well worth the highest possible rating - we would certainly be happy to go there again!
super short stay
Hotel is well located for the steady but addictive nightlife and the Oh so clean beach. We were situated middle of the block with a pool view, Yes there is a train line very nearby but with your air con on in your room i did not hear it once. Whilst relaxing around the very clean and large (for size of hotel )pool, the train line can be heard but the majority do slow down to pass the town, I personally cant see what all the fuss is about. More noise was created by the children in the pool. Ask for a pool view as its perfect for drinks on the balcony around 5 o clock till the sun drops below the mountains aroud 9 ish. Food is typical sol melia standard (very tasty and on mass) the surroundings are a little bland but thats spain for you. Staff very helpful, smart and always willing to please, alltogether a very pleasant short stay especially for 70 Euros Half board found on their own web site. Rooms are spotless and clean and a shower that gives a whole new concept to POWER SHOWER A very pleasant stay and would recomend.
