We have stayed at this hotel twice. On our first stay (2006) we had a room facing the rail way station which yes was abit noisy but well you dont spend all day in your room. we did go in the busiest time of the year though. Our second visit (2007) we had a pool side view... more

Went to Cambrils Princess Hotel in Sept and can honestly say we would never go there again. We booked through Thomson and it was under "family friendly" category, this was definitely not the case. The food was awful and not catered to toddlers so my youngster (14 months)... more

We went to this hotel on the 11th September 2007 and found it quite a pleasant hotel, if a tad run-down. There were rumours of a takeover by another group that had another hotel just up the road, which may have affected the morale of some of the staff but, generally they... more

Rooms were not cleaned well at all. Food was very good but often the food was cold, especially the jacket potatoes. The staff should have enforced the rule of men not being allowed to wear shorts in the restaurant in the evenings, it looked very scruffy especially with the... more

I do feel that many of the reviews can be separated in two; those who stayed on the poolside of the hotel and those who could literally stretch out and touch the train as I passed on the track outside their room. Unfortunately my partner and myself fall into the latter... more

We enjoyed our stay at the Cambrils Princess, I think soon to be renamed The Cambrils Hotel. We stayed for 2 weeks 10th -24th July 07. We were very pleased to have a room at the front facing the pool as there are some facing the railway at the back and some close to the... more

We have just come back from our holiday, hotel very clean, and food enough for all, one veggie with us. Drinks good, pool good enough beds, and did not seem to have a rush on a morning. Bedrooms comfy. Suited everyone in the party from age 12-42! Theme park when I go back... more

We all have a fabulous family holiday from day one! Hotel is excellent for all. I travelled with my Partner, 2 kids {aged 8 years & 7 months} and my parents - we were all catered for. Food quality was best you will find in Spain. A full style hot & cold buffet PLUS three... more

The hotel is kept clean and the staff are nice. The food is quite often cold but there is plenty of choice. It is a bus ride into Salou or Cambrils as its approx 2 miles to each. To journey further you need to catch a train in Salou, this goes to La Pinneada Tarragona and... more

Good Holiday
I was very happy on arrival to the hotel, the reception area very clean and fairly modernised as well. The reception staff were welcoming and offered to take our bags whilst we looked around the hotel. The pool area is very nice with plenty of sunbeds, as with other hotels previously had to reserve sunbeds early morning, this was not necessary here as there was enough for everybody. There is a lifeguard by the pool side all day every day, so children are safe within the pool. The restaurant was average, food was not of best quality, but you get what you pay for. There is always plenty of choice, and a lot of the meat is cooked as you want it. The chips and other food however is not always warm. There is choices or a variety of fruit, also with tea or coffee accessible. The staff are not rude, but do not always fully understand what you require. As for the room, the room is fairly spacious and clean, with new towels as required, simply leaving them in the bath and the cleaners will supply fresh towels. The balconies on the first floor very spatious and would definately recommend a pool view. The entertainment however was very poor unless you were German/French. British children would not be able to join in. There is no day time activities for adults or teenagers however there is a children's club for little ones.
Very disappointed
My husband and myself are just back from a two week break to this hotel and unless you do not mind queuing for breakfast and dinner do not go. The hotel itself was ok. but could do with a bit of modernisation, it was clean but the staff were not at all friendly. The restaurant was too small for the number of guests in the hotel, this meant you had to queue for meals(it was like being back at school). This was our first holiday to mainland Spain and it was that bad we will not be back.
great location
I spent 4 days at this hotel for my partners birthday in July. When i saw the hotel from the outside first of all i was a bit dissapointed as it looked a bit run down and not as good as in the brochure. But once we settled in i was rather pleased. The room was a good size but quite basic. My room was overlooking the railway, which didn't bother me too much as the trains wern't constant and didn't run through the night but i'd probably suggest to pay for a pool or sea room. The food in the hotel is good and i never once experienced cold food like alot of the other reviews mention. It is quite spanish though the food, so don't expect anything too english! The pool was really nice but when i went in july it was really packed. A bit impossible to get a sunbed. There is a pool bar where the staff are really friendly. The drinks throughtout the day were really cheap as well. The location of the hotel was really great. It was only over the road from the beach which was lovely, clean and huge! There were lots of bars and restaurants in the area, a lot of irish pubs too! Salou is great for nightlife. There were a lot of clubs and shops. The hotel i think was just in the best area. As the taxis were really cheap most of the time we walked along the seafront to salou and then got a taxi back. And Portaventura was great fun! the rides were great and there were fab rides for young kids. Def worth a visit. It was so hot when i went which was obviously was an added bonus. Overall i would def say this hotel was a fine hotel to stay in and looked a lot better than half the other hotels out there. It was very basic but the staff were helpful and it just made a great base to go out and about!!!
an honest review
I stayed at Cambrils Princess hotel 11th august 2007 for 1 week with my partner and felt I had to give an honest review. We are both 30 yrs old. I had been really looking forward to my holiday as I had read all about salou and that this hotel was a 4*. On arrival i was very impressed by reception and their service. Got to the bedroom and was once again very impresed. However, 5 mins into unpacking my suitcase, the trains started!!! (i was at back of the hotel). I dont mind a bit of noise but the frequency of the trains followed by the constant hooting every time they went by was enough to drive anyone CRAZY!!!!!!! meal times were fine, a bit hectic, but food was good so that made up for it. The pool area was really clean and spacious. Evening entertainment a bit hit and miss but the local bus service is directly outside hotel so can take you to either salou or cambrils. salou very tacky but fun, cambrils gorgeous spanish village so something to suit everyone. If you want constant hot sunshine I wouldnt recommend costa dorada as it rained 3 days that we stayed there and had been raining on/off over last month or so. costa dorada is VERY orientated around children so wasnt the best choice for us but if you have kids you'll be delighted. I wouldnt go back to either the hotel or costa dorada again but im still glad I went!
Could be a great 4 star, not a 'could-do-better' 4 star
A good hotel, pool room great, clean and well presented room with daily cleaning service-fresh towels. Exterior of hotel is a bit shabby, pool area good. Big complaint: evening meal was cold, lack of choice, restaurant area chaotic at mealtimes, like eating in Waterloo St at rush hour! Staff not friendly, don't smile. Needs leadership in food, restaurant & staff moral areas to make this a great 4 star again
never a 4 star
just got back today and felt had to write asap. to save others being too dissappointed . please do not expect the comfort of 4 star . We took our 14 yr old Grandson as we felt it was well situated for the Barcelona attractions as well as theme & waterparks. No complaints here re transport etc. Now for the Hotel ...Staff moslty rude & did not even try to show where anything was in the dining room ...just grunted & pointed . no english at all understood or spoken in dining room & reception just as bad. Apart from one female who was helpful. Meals a nightmare & was like running the gauntlet every time to get a table & food. While you eat there are constant "waste" being wheeled past the tables...yeuch....caters definately for Spaniards & Germans and staff do show preferences to these nationalities. Run out of spoons one night for soup & waited 15 mins. Food ok if you eat fish all the time & pork ????? seems a large selection but a lot is tasteless. Desserts sickly sweet but friut nice ....nice breads but queue for toast & tea alarming. I never had a hot meal as by time you settle at table its cold. Paco at door of resturaunt nice but has a hard time running things. Rooms cleaned each day , yes , but NO drawers at all & tiny wardrobe space!!!!!!!! tiny bin in bathroom & hard pillows. I was sure there was plastic on matresses below sheets as I woke up sweating each night . Air con good though just warm under sheet All in all we think 2-3 star and ok as central base but nothing worth doing at night unless you either go to tacky local pubs or stay in @ hotel & watch second rate acts,,,drink measures good though ...branded drinks too. Pool restrictions meant no fun allowed only swimming ?? Beach quiet but boring sometimes as no water sports around. Pavements dangerously uneven and lots of pensioners about. We did what we wanted ie- nu camp / portaventura/ zoo etc ...but were glad to leave for home. shall not be back I'm afraid. Salou itself was dissappointing re shopping too. All beachy stuff mosly. by the way---our 14 yr old grandson has holidayed a lot with us & agrees with all the views we have here. He says we are better treated in Turkey & know what ? he is correct !! Goodbye Salou...
very good hotel
do not be put of by this hotel, i am going to the costa caribe hotel this year, which was a lot more money, but has got bad reviews, i so so wish i booked this hotel, it is the cleanest hotel ever, the rooms are emaculate and in a lovely location with shops next door and the beach right accross the road. The only downfall is the food, it has got worse over the years and unfortunetly last year there were loads of flies all over the food. But a holiday is not all abot food, and u will have a lovely time if u are going, i am so envious because this hotel is just great, honestly i am the fussiest about cleanliness and this was way above my standards
Must have a pool view room
If you stay at this hotel you MUST,MUST, MUST, have a room with a pool view. (Same Price). If you do take a rear room you will overlook the very busy MAIN TRAIN LINE. Some of the rooms are just yards away from the line. The hotel is mid-way between Salou and Cambrills, a good 30mins walk to each but the bus stop is just outsde the hotel. I would not class this a 4 Star hotel. There was a reasonable choice of food, BUT, it was at best only warm. Unless you can get the pool view room, sleep on the beach unless you enjoy the sounds of trains..
fantastic staff
we arrived at the hotel in the middle of a storm (not a good start).after our flights had been delayed then been rerouted to barcelona, so when we arrived the breakfast for the day was finishing. seemingly without fuss as he had found out how bad our trip to the hotel had been, the head waiter extended the breakfast time long enough for everyone to take their bags to their rooms, and return for food. Those that didnt want to return were told that they could have a complimentary lunch instead. And this level of service continued all the way through our stay. The bar staff were extremeley friendly and helpful, especially Raul, whose english was brilliant. To the point of helping me with my spanish (which is bareley passable). The pool is also very large and well kept. There is a cosmopolitan feel to the hotel, we counted 5 languages at poolside, french, german, english, russian and obviously spanish.
Great hotel-great holiday!
Myself (20), my boyfriend (25), my mum (48) and my brother (16) have all just returned from a weeks stay in this hotel. We all thoroughly enjoyed the holiday and thought the hotel was great. The rooms are comfortable, clean and safe- what more could you ask for? the beds are comfortable, the maids are in everyday and we found the air conditioning to work perfectly. the only thing missing from the rooms is a fridge but I found out later, you can hire them from reception so that solves that problem! Food was extremely good as there was a lot of choice so you can always find something you want to eat. however, as there are so many people staying at the hotel meal times can be quite hectic. However, after a few days you get to know which times to avoid and which times are quiet and so ideal to dine. The pool area is good but i would recommend getting up early and laying towels down on sunbeds as from early morning the pool area fills up quickly. The only part of the hotel I can complain about is the reception. It is very slow and the staff there cannot speak english the very best which is difficult when you are enquiring about certain things. The bus service is fantastic and right outside the hotel is a bus stop so I would definately recommend using this form of transport. Portaventura is a must but one day is not enough so perhaps a two or three day pass would be best. Overall, we would stay in this hotel again as all in all it was a great place. The location is fantastic as the beach is 2 mins walk away and you are between Salou and Cambrils and so you can easily walk or catch a bus to both. Highly recommended!
