Paid roughly £1400 for myself and my girlfriend to go to the Hotel for 7 days. On arrival to the Airport we had to find a Thomson rep by ourselves to find the coaches, then find another to point us to the correct coach. Then a rep came on the coach and left the coach to go... more

Hen Party - Place to sleep
stayed for 3 nights for my hen party. The Hotel was basic, clean and comfortable. The meals were spot on - always plenty to choose from & something for everyone. We didn't drink in lounge bar as other people have commented this is a place for the OAP's but hey we weren't picky at £23 per night including meals we were all happy!! 9 of us stayed in 3 rooms which were comfortable, air con worked great, bathrooms tidy and plenty of plug sockets for our GHD's!!!! benalmadena itself is ok, we didn't go out until 10.30 as this is when the 24 hours square begins to liven up. Plenty of bars and be warned the reps are very pushy but we worked it to our advantage and managed to get free stuff all the time, as it was my hen party i got free drinks all night and we got free shots and champagne!! Loved it!! The marine is only a short walk away and again have some great bars, quieter than square but serve nice cocktails!! malaga airport 15 mins away and cost 20 euros for transfer to hotel, buses run to marbella right outside the hotel, which takes about 30 mins but only cost 4 euros!! Overall, any age any occassion go!! Weather was beautiful & i'd go back tomorrow!!!
lovely hotel but lots of steps beware!
we stayed here for a 3 day break and had been allocated i think the best room in the hotel. room 707 on a corner balcony so fantastic views towards the marina and out to sea. The food is good and lots of choice, the breakfasts are excellent. The entertainment we only saw 2 nights but it was varied and great for the general age groupl of this hotel which is in the 60-90 age group. myself and my husband are 50 and we both felt too young!! There are lots of steps down to the beach level and around the general grounds. the beach level can only be reached by a lift if you are disabled and sometimes this is out of order. we were only there for three days and we heard people trapped three times and it was totally out of order for a whole afternoon, so beware if you are disabled. the staff are fantastic and cannot do enough. the grounds are well tneded and the pool area very clean. try this hotel if you like a very very relaxing atmosphere! and are phisically fit.
Retirement Home
I recently stayed at this hotel for my honeymoon with my husband, upon arrival the hotel was spotless and seemed a nice hotel, the next morning we went down for breakfast and found we was the youngest guest everyone was over 70 we felt out place:- The food was mixed the cereal was cheap and I found some meat pink other people loved the food so I can only comment on what I found. The dinning area was in need of a modern touch you would expect a 4 star to be up to date I have stayed in a 3 star better The staff was friendley and more than happy to help, and rooms was large and spotless. We went to the whats on welcome and was told about the trips we decided to go on the Rat Pack and Purto Bonsa by night much to our disappointment we was told by Kevin it was not running until July as it is not high season but yet it was on the booking form and promoted on the thomson boards it was June not April or May. Pablo the entertainment guy was brilliant and made everyone feel welcome.
riviera retirement home
stayed at riviera for 2nights hb 12-14/06/07.on arrival at 11am rooms were still been cleaned and not available.not a problem left our bags and went for a walk around hotel.realised we were probably youngest there at 43 and 38.pool area packed not a single sun lounger anywhere.returned to reception at 12 given room 220 told hotel was very full.went to room was on first floor above and next to busy main road.could hear traffic without even opening patio door.had only half a balcony.went back to reception req another room told there wasnt any.complained to thompsons rep kevin who got us room 217.wasnt happy and he suggested i purchased some ear plugs.i was disgusted and will prob never go thompsons again.217 was ready at 3pm.nothing else available.rooms are ok clean if a bit worn.rest good plenty of choice no complaints.be aware that for evening meal men must wear long trousers and tops with a collar.entertainment ok.hotel bar prices ok pool ok but remember to get up at silly oclock to reserve your sun bed as the oaps are up early.one morning i went for a walk at 8am and noticed all the sun beds covered in towels. overall i would say this hotel is not worthy of 4*status.it may have been 40ears ago you dont even get tea/coffee facilities in your room.if you have alate return flight expect to pay 28 euros to keep your room for a few hours.
Great |Hotel
Hotel Riviera lived up to the expectations we had from reading previous reviews. Excellent location and food above average. The room was spacious although it was on the side of the hotel which does not face the swimming pool, and looks out to the sea and the main road. At night you could hear the noise from the main road, but I didn't find this a problem. Staff in the restaurant were brilliant and take great pride in their ability to make you feel comfortable. Benalmadena is very hilly, this hotel being located on one, so there are a lot of steps so not recommended for the less able. We found a great little bar on the sea front called 'Vickys Bar'. This was great for lunch time snacks. To find this bar you exit the hotel from the beach side and turn right onto the promenade. Vicky's is situated a short 5 minute walk away, up some steps above the bars on the ground floor. Beautifull food and fantastic sea views. All in all a great holiday. I would recommend this hotel to all apart from those that do not have good mobility.
Loads of FOOD
We stayed at this hotel in April when the weather was very mixed - the hotel was large enough to find places to lounge. The room was very spacious and clean and serviced daily. The public areas were very clean and the staff more than helpful. The choice of food was really good - it would be difficult to not find anything you really wanted to eat. We did feel, however, that the entertainment was geared towards the older age range but to be fair that was the majority of the guests ! - we sometimes felt that we were in a very up market retirment home !! If you want a quiet and safe stay then this is an ideal spot - possibly the best location in the resort - the pool and relaxing areas were overlooking the sea, which meant that there was no real need to go onto the beach and pay for loungers. Would probably go back for a quick fix, knowing that it is a very good hotel and avoid some of the entertainment.
Good Value excellent location
Stayed for a week 21st March - it was tranistion period between the over 65s and the younger set. First few days where a test at breakfast if it was considered by the long staying over 65s that we did not queue the in the 'correct' way (although they could do as they wished), but hey they breakfast was hugh so the ear ache was worth it!! Excellent location, lift right down to the prom and easy walk to Marina etc. Rooms clean and tidy. Entertainment at hotel could not be faulted, given the competion elsewhere. Coffee was awful, not a patch on local cafes. Rooms on the East/Marina side don't get much sun from lunch time if that is important to you. Great swimming pool/sun deck. Seemed plenty of sunbeds, although lots of reserving (by us brits!). Good location for public transport to nearby towns. All in all a good stay.
Good and Bad points
Used to stay here frequently until about 10 years ago, then stopped going to Spain but returned for a week at the beginning of the month. This hotel has always been rated as a four star and can quite categorically state that it is not a 4 star! The rooms were of a generous size, with Channel island Sky connection so you got BBC1 and ITV which was a nice suprise!! Generous size beds, bedding changed every other day and towels changed daily but this would expect of any half decent hotel!! The room was dusty when we arrived with a line of dust on all the items in the bathroom and on the bed headboards, lamps etc. During the whole week, the room was not dusted nor hoovered and the bathroom was never swept either. On the last two days the sink was not cleaned and the loo roll was not replensihed either!! As a non smoker, it was lovely that the hotel was classed as a non smoking hotel and the only area you could smoke was in a smoking room, just off of where the lifts were situated. The bar was comfortable and there was a large comfy lounge if you didnt want to watch the entertainment at night, which varied in quality!!! Happy Hour 3 times a week was good and as usual, the measures were double plus at any time of the day. The food was varied with a large selection of hot and cold dishes, there would be no reason for anyone to complain about the food at breakfast or dinner as the selection was huge, tasty and of good quality. Staff on reception were knowledgable and very friendly. The pool is a nice size but could do with a bit of updating, flaky paint etc and the lift down to the promenade only worked once the whole week we were there. So if you cant climb stairs, please beware, it is 3 levels down to the seafront promenade. The brochure stated small indoor pool but we never found this!!! We were staisfied with the hotel which is a good location, excellent bus services which are very cheap too. We were caught in the floods and landslides that happened there this week, the rain was terrible but I get that wherever I go!! All in all for the money paid (£201 for a week Half board with flights and transfers ) we were satisfied with what we got. However, housekeeping was a real let down as was the inoperative lift to the promenade. Wouldn't advise anyone not to go there as it so cheap, but if you are going to be reliant on the lift to get to and from the seafront and dont mind the room not being cleaned properly, ( however people we spoke to on other floors said there housekeeping was great ) then go for it, as its a comfortable hotel in a good location with very good food!
fantastic
Having read some of the reviews we were a little worried about out trip to the Riviera Hotel. But when we arrived we were pleasantly surprised. The hotel was in an ideal location. With lift down to promanade. The rooms were lovely, bathrooms lovely, bedding changed about every other day and towels changed every day. Food was fantastic. Always lots of choice and the salads were great. Didn't stay in for entertainment on night time so not sure what that was like. Places to sit and relax in hotel. Staff very pleasant and friendly. Garden areas lovely. All in all a fantastic holiday and would deffinately return.
'first impressions'
First impressions were very pleasing, warm welcome by hotel staff and because of late arrival ....first stop 'the restaurant'. Food in the restaurant was superb, the choice was unbelievable, very cosmopolitan. First impressions of room were good, carpet on the floors and a good size bathroom, but noticable "drainy" smell and mould around the bath. Attention to finer details during refurbishment appeared to be overlooked. This was also in evidence on the exterior of the hotel. On a day to day basis we feel general maintenance was lacking, giving the impression of a worn, old and tired hotel. The smell of drains around some areas of the pool seemed unavoidable. We have holidayed 4 star before but feel this hotel is not quite there.
