The Sahara Beach was fantastic, the pools were clean and beautiful, the snackbars amazing with pasta, burgers, salads and sandwiches,no need to go to the restaurant for lunch. There is a zoo on site which we found charming and well looked after. near to the entrance at the end of the drive are stables with the most beautiful horses, for a reasonable fee you can be taken out for a ride on one, hat provided,my daughter loved it.In the hotel itself there is a complete street with shops,a disco and a piano bar.The hotel has its own private beach and there is also a childrens play area. The evening entertainment is the best I have come across with a very large area outside with bars and a huge stage,we are hoping to return late this summer.

Excellant value for money

We have just returned from fourteen nights at the Sahara Beach and had an excellent value for money holiday.
This hotel is the second largest in Africa comprising three separate interlinked buildings with most of the rooms having a side sea view. Although the hotel was not too busy whilst we were there in February, T don't think I would like to experience it during the peak of the season.
As mentioned by other reviewers, the rooms are basic and compact but that wasn't a problem as we had hot sunny weather for 12 out of our fourteen days and we therefore only needed the room for showering and sleeping.
I would also mention that all of the hotel staff, from the receptionists to the gardeners are very polite and friendly. Obviously, they are after their tips but, if you do look after them you will get excellent service. The hotel caters for all nationalities with the result that there is always a good selection of food available with a slightly varying menu. It might not be home cooking, but it is completley edible!!
The hotel has a lot of outdoor pools within pleasent and well maintained gardens. They also have a small aqua park which was not open in February.
A special mention must go to the Animation Team who work hard during the day to keep everyone amused, and harder during the night when thery present their cabaret shows - don't miss the ' Michael Jackson' and 'Moulin Rouge shows' !!!
Don't let any bad reviews deter you - you will enjoy this hotel!

How things have changed!!!

Having stayed at this hotel 6 times before (over the last 15 years) I cannot believe how much the standard has dropped, since our last stay 2 years ago.
Obviously, since flights have altered from Monastir to the new airport, the coach transfer took over an hour compared to the 15 minutes previously.
Check in at the hotel was a shambles & gave the impression they really couldn't be bothered how long they took to check you in, even though there were only 8 people to see to.
Our biggest disappointment was the food.
Whilst the variety was still pretty good, the quality was extremely poor. Nothing looked appetising, in fact everything looked either pre-cooked earlier & re-heated or terribly dried up & over-cooked & burnt.
The fresh fruit even left a lot to be desired. Peaches like cricket balls (yes, that hard) Plums, pears & apples not ripe enough to eat & not an orange or date in sight, even though they grow them in abundance.
The daytime entertainment was reasonable but the evening was absolute rubbish compared to previous years, & as you are confined to the hotel after dark, most clients went back to their rooms after dinner.
No wonder this hotel has been down-graded from 4* to 3*
Although this won't deter us from going back to Tunisia, next year, we'll be heading from Port El Kantoui again as firstly, it's nearer to the airport & also there are some much better hotels there & something to do outside the hotels in the evenings.
I just feel sorry for anyone staying at The Sahara Beach if it's their first time in Tunisia as it would put them off going again, I'm sure.
No wonder, Thomson gave up their allocation (they'd had it for years) in favour of Thomas Cook.
You have been warned what to expect all you new-comers to Tunisia

I have just returned from Saharah beach hotel where I stayed with my husband 2 children and mother in law. We had the best holiday ever, the rooms were clean and made everyday, the people were very friendly and went out of their way to help us, the food was delicious and there was plenty of it. The amount of pools meant they werent full and were cleaned daily, there was no problem getting sunbeds around the pool and we didnt have to get up early to get a sunbed. This was a value for money holiday and I would definatley go there again.

Myself and a friend have just returned from Sahara Beach.
Lovely hotel clean and rooms are very basic and small. only drawback no T.V in the rooms and just two plug sockets which one was in the bathroom. The food is very basic iam a fussy eater but everyone was complaining of the food, so i lived on salad and chips...
And the hotel brings food in from a catering company ( which seems very strange ) the food gets delivered in big lorries at the side of the hotel. All swimming pools are really nice, staff are friendly you do need to tip certain staff but 1 dinar is only 50p so that's nothing... It was a cheap holiday for me and my friend most people there paid a lot more than we did. We also met some lovely people there. i would return to Tunisia but not to Sahara beach but another hotel.... Happy holidays..

Awful Awful Awful

I agree with the 157 awful reviews on here! I went with my husband in 2006 and it was disgusting! Both very ill and on medication for the rest of my life and had numerous treatments done. I really don't know how anyone can recommend this place. We booked with a very reputable travel company who since then we have not booked with since and have won the case on this terrible experience. We don't travel to exotic places and are far from being stuck up - but since this we have only stuck to what we are used to - 4* spain were we know we are safe. Please if you are thinking are going don't! Stick to what you know!!!

Just arrived back from 11 nights at the Sahara Beach and would like to post a fair review of the place.
Firstly we paid to go to a 3 star hotel and for the money we paid we got fantastic value.
The hotel rooms where small (especially for three)and both the room and bathroom were a little tired. However the rooms were cleaned daily and all had a see view!
The beach pool and gardens were definately 5 star standard but the fight for a sunbed in the morning which did frustrate me at times. Why do people go on holiday and get up at 6am to reserve a sunbed (sad people!)
Food was plentiful, varied and always avialable but after a week of it we were all looking forward to a bacon buttie. The quality was Ok but if being honest was nothing special.
Alcohol was again plentiful, the beer was ok but some of the spirits were very good and served in very large measures.
The staff were great once we got accustomed to the tipping culture. For 40p here and there we did receive some great service and we didn't mind tipping if the service is good but that didn't mean you have to tip thats really down to you and sometimes we didn't especially around the pool bars.
The Hotels animation team tried hard to entertain their guests around the pools especially the kids and also at the nightly show at the outside theartre area.
Overall we had a great holiday, stress free and oh the joys of cloudless skies day after day!

Don't listen to grumpy holidaymakers!!

I went to Sahara beach in 2008 with my daughter, she is a fussy eater, and found plenty to please, i went again last year with my partner, who loved the setting and the food, we are going again in 2 weeks and i cannot wait, a mate i work with is also going independantly for one week of my holiday and i had NO PROBLEM in reccomending it to her, there is nothing to complain about. The cleaners work long hours in the public areas, room is spotless, food is hot and plentiful, to try the beach snack bar and the one at the top pool, all 3 pools are superb, the gardens are breathtaking, the beach is wonderful, there are some grumpy staff, but sometimes when you see how some holidaymakers speak to them you can begin to understand why. Jimmy the waiter and Mr Happy, bar man have been there the 2 times i have been, and they DO remember you, hoping they are both there this visit. Horseriding on the beach is great and cheap, and give the photographer a chance, he's very good. Go to the Sahara beach, you wont be dissapointed. If you are...then maybe you should stay at home!!

First impression wasnt a good one hotel was way too big and a bit scruffy looking, but outside made up for that stunning views fantastic pools. but not enough sunbeds to accomadate all that was staying there had to get up at 6 every morning to get a bed.unless you tipped generously everymorning. Also around the pool area wasnt clean eveymorning still had plastic cups and rubbish everywhere.
Lets talk about tipping waiters in dinning room want tipping all the time, if you was a good tipper your drinks would be waiting for you when you went in there, also they`d decorate your table with petals and flowers. if however you dont tip you wont get anything unless you keep asking. They all say you look after them they will look after you, but why should we, we have already paid to go on an allinclusive holiday why do we have to tip at all times for a job they already get paid to do... also on way to restaurant you you have to walk down a big corridor but they call it commerical street where you get pestered to death by people wanting you to buy things as well as trips out.
