depressing
from mamadenina
Depressing Perla Marina is a 4 star hotel, but not in all its rooms. We got room 140. That room number is not included in the wall signals that indicate the direction for each room. The room was facing the side of the hotel, not the beach of the swimming pool. We arrived in the middle of a wedding, we were told that they were not used to weddings and that was the reason that things were going crazy. Staff is unfriendly. The hotel charges 10 euros per day for parking, but the elevator does not go to the parking lot and nobody offered to carry our suitcases. The hotel is not responsible for valuables that are not deposited in the safe deposit in each room, but there is a charge to get a key to the safe. I wish we had known what kind of room we were getting before we made reservations.
Nice But Noisy
from wickerBurtononTrent
We stayed at the Perla Marina for a late week’s sun before the winter sets in. first impressions of the hotel are that it is quite modern and clean. We arrived the day after a massive storm but were not warned that there was no running water, which was a shame that I wanted a shower as soon as I got to the room. The room was clean modern and fairly comfortable. However, even though we requested a quite room with a sea view, the view was the wall of the neighbouring apartment block and we were above the dining room. So each morning we were awaken by the scraping of chairs below. We also found that the walls are paper thin and with the floors being laminate, we were awaken by the clip clop of feet from both sides and above until the early hours. The breakfast at the hotel was the usual buffet and on the whole was very nice. You are also able to book an early breakfast the day before. This is handy if you are leaving early in the morning. The staff are very polite and helpful.
Going down hill

My Wife and I just returned from The Perla Marina Hotel on a B and B basis booked via Thomson website, and having stayed there before, were quite happy to return. Unfortunately, we were on the third floor, not knowing that there were studio rooms on the fourth floor ,which were rented out to coach parties of young males. This was not the case last year. Furniture was dragged across the floor until the early hours and groups congregated out in the garden drinking 1:30 - 2 am. Our room 338 was on the corner of the property and caught all the noise. Breakfast was quite chaotic with dishes not being replaced as they became empty. The waiters barely seemed able to cope. If you stay in the main Hotel you have to go to the larger building across the road for your meals. The cleaners on at least 3 occasions didn't clean the room until 5 to 5:30 in the evening and once I had to chase them for towels. Thomson do not make it clear that when they transfer you back to Malaga, you will have to take your luggage around to the Hotel Monica by yourself to get the coach, which could be extemely difficult for an older person, or in the rain. To be fair, the reception staff were very good and did fix an air conditioning fault immediately. The swimming pool was good, but few sun beds available, with people reserving them with towels very early in the day. The location is right on the beach which is in its favour and near to town. I feel that if we had a different room, say, on the 1st or 2nd floor in the centre of the front of the hotel away from lifts, it would be ok, except that the hotel has started to take in these coach parties. A good hotel spoilt.
Bad quality-cost relationship
from SpanishVoyager
It's a pity, but I really felt disappointed with the room, not small but tiny. Beds let hardly 40 cm to move. Air conditioned doesn't works right (not enough cool) and causes bad smells. I can't understand how this hotel has 4 stars
Great value hotel nice resort
from Jax&Dave
Recently upgraded to 4 star hotel with addition of new annexe over the road which was where my room was. Room was good size and clean and tidy and obviosuly still quite new and the main building was over the road and also connected by underground passage. Hotel facilities were good and staff friendly and buffet breakfast very good. Only critcisim was that the pool area is very small with not many sun longers although there are more loungers on the grass nearby. The beach outside the hotel is not very good but there is an excellent beach (although quite small) only 2 mins walk. The hotel is one end of Nerja but there are many restauarants and bars within a few minutes walk and you can walsk to the main centre in about 10-15 mins. Overall a good stay in a nice hotel in a good resort which remains quite Spanish still and only 45 mins from Malaga airport by car.
Nice hotel a bit off the beaten track
from sseansully
Wife and I stayed at Perla Marina August 23-27, 2006, while attending a wedding. Most of the guests stayed at or very near the Balcon de Europa. The Perla Marina is about a 15 minute walk from the Balcon, a pleasant walk. The hotel overlooks a pool, with the ocean beyond. The pool is small, and when we were there, full of children. Not a pool for adults at that time of the year, it appears. The hotel is fine; not great, but more than adequate. Rooms were small, but not miniscule. It's less expensive than the hotels up on the Balcon; if we were to do it over, however, we'd probably stay at the Balcon. Not because we didn't like the Perla, but because we weren't in the center of the wedding action. The breakfast at the hotel is very good, so try and get it included. Overall, for the money it was a good value.
good value hotel
from Langlois
Good 3 star hotel. Great location, quiet but not too far out from town, about a five minute walk. Beach in front of hotel not the best but good beaches within 3 minute walk. Staff friendly. Pool area small and not many sunbeds. However, as the beach is so close there was little need to use the pool. Try and get a room with a balcony as some have side views of the sea only. Would stay there again. Not a hotel for the under 30's, guests tended to be a little older which suited us. If travelling independently you can catch the bus from the airport to Malaga and then onto Nerja but if not travelling on a budget would recommend getting a taxi. Fares should be not more than 70 euros. Would recommend bed abd breakfast only as restaurants in Nerja excellent and reasonable.
excellent hotel in Nerja
from LittleJohn1
Stayed at the Perla Marina over easter 2006. Although it was the 1st time we had stayed at this Hotel we have visited Nerja many times. I think this is probably the best hotel we have stayed at in Nerja. The rooms were clean and well presented as were the public areas. The dining room was pleasant and there was an excellent choice of food at both breakfast and dinner(both buffets). The hotel provides lowkey entertainment a couple of nights a week which means that there is always a quiet and pleasant atmosphere. You often see groups of Spanish holidaymakers sitting round chatting and the hotel attracts a mix of nationalities which I find much more preferable than a hotel full of one nationality. The location is slightly out of the way in the new part of town and the beach outside the hotel is not the best. However there is a better beach within a couple of minutes walk and the Balcon is only 5 minutes walk away. Burriana beach is a 15-20 minute stroll. Overall a very good hotel although i'm not sure it is really a 4 star hotel - i would rate it a very good 3 star.
Nerja & Apartments Perla Marina
from aston_derbys
Just returned after seven night stay in Nerja. Holiday did not get off to the best start as we were not allowed into our apartment on arrival. We were offered a suite and breakfast but the temporary beds offered to our two sons were very uncomfortable and we effectively lost a large part of the first day as we could not unpack and move properly until after lunch. No apology offered! Apartment was very well laid out and clean. Situated over looking the sea and a monitored beach. About 15 minutes from the centre of Nerja and the Balcon. Apartments could do with a bit more in the way of communication. You have to pay a 30 euro deposit for an air con control but no one told us - I had to trot up to reception. Likewise arrangements for rubbish as apartment only serviced once during the week. Noise was a problem but only due to the antics of our neighbours. Other guests seemed well behaved. Nerja not as nice as I hoped for. Lots of dog mess on pavements. Not as well cared for as other resorts we have been to i.e. Puerto Pollensa and Tossa de Mar. Parking impossible near apartments so we ditched idea of hiring a car. However, local buses are great if slightly hard to work out. Did trips to Frigiliana (more for adults; very pretty), the Caves (only lasts 30 mins) and Granada. The latter cost over £100 for the four of us but was well worth the visit. The city is very interesting and pleasant and of course there is the Alhambra. Restaurants were excellent. Particular favourite was one off the Balcon to the side of the arch. Think it was called El Fuente or something similar.
