We have stayed at Pop Century resort before in 2005 and absolutely loved it, couldn't say anything bad about the place....this time...not so happy. Majority of the time, the beverage stations were shut down due to unknown servicing reasons. The first week, my two children,... more

There is nothing quite like the magic of staying at a Disney hotel. Pop Century is an excellent hotel which offers a great experience. Firstly, you wander around the hotel in marvel at the props and sights - fantastic - huge phones, YO-YOs and giant jukeboxes. There are... more

Flight facilities were excellent as expected from Virgin. Hotel was clean and full of activities for kids and great transport to the parks. Breakfast was basic. Main problem was crowding at the pool. Some days it was very busy and difficult to relax with younger children.... more

We have stayed in the Disney hotels before but it was the first time staying at Pop Century resort. The hotel is huge with hundreds of rooms separated into theme blocks across the decades. Each block is in close proximity to the main food court and shop and 3 pools. There... more

I have read reports that I felt amazed at saying this is a substandard hotel. The staff were pleasant at all times of the day, the drivers of the buses taking you to the parks always seemed to be happy and jolly, one even gave a Disney quiz and singsong on the way to... more

You'll be sad to leave Pop Century
Our family just returned from a week stay at Pop Century. The worst thing I can say about staying here is the you have to leave! Upon arriving (around 3pm) we had absolutely no wait at the check-in counter. We received our cards and we were on our way. Tip #1 - These cards serve as your room keys, parks passes, and charge cards during your entire stay. Bring one of those card holders with a neck lanyard from home to carry these during your trip! We stayed in the 50's area very close to the main building. Try to get one of the 50's or 60's buildings as these are close to the main building. The 80's and 90's buildings are quite a walk to the main building. Tip #2 - The food court offers a souvenier mug that you can fill up during the entire stay at the resort. The $11.99 price can give you a little sticker shock but w/ drinks @ $2.50-$3.00 it proves to be a bargain. There are 3 heated pools which were warm enough to swim in February (even @ 1030 pm which we did). The decor is great, you will find yourself continously snapping pictures during your stay. The food is rather pricey but very convenient after a long day @ the parks. The Disney transportation was adequate (15-20 mins. max wait). Tip #3 - Don't take the Disney bus to the Magic Kingdom ESPECIALLY IF YOU STAY FOR THE FIREWORKS!. You can expect an hour wait to board a bus back to Pop Century. The other parks were not a problem for the buses. I'll wrap up by saying it was well worth the money, spend your money on souveniers and food (don't waste it in a pricey resort)!
They may be small, but you only sleep after a day in the parks.
OK so the rooms are smaller than the moderate Disney hotels, and smaller than the likes of Quality Inn and Marriott on IDrive, but the ambiance, the setting and being "on-site" made up for this, afterall what time you do spend in a Disney Hotel is mostly spent sleeping from park exhaustion. The Swimming Pools at PopCentury are featured to each "time-zone" and other than the main pool, are not over-crowded.The food hall can get a bit too busy, and if you have a group of more than 4 people finding somewhere to sit for Breakfast can prove testing, unless you want to be the first ones there at 6:00.Checkin and Checkout was good, but beware if you want a late departure "Value Resorts do not normally offer this feature, if you want this kind of service you should go to a moderate or luxury resort".Otherwise we all had a great time, kids loved it, we liked it, wallet found it agreeable, and as long as you were using a car for transportation, it is a pretty good base for your Disney vacation.
Best Value at Disney
Two of us stayed for 7 nights 2/3-2/10 2004 and were very pleased. With a promo rate of $55.00 the hotel was more than acceptable. It was a memorable experience because we took time to absorb everything around us. The grounds, lake, landscaping, icons, pools, sights and sounds were pure fun. This is a place for the average traveler/family to stay in the *magic* of Disney and keep extra money for spending. Yes, the dining/shopping area was busy and noisy, but aren't most parties. Keep an open mind and you will enjoy the newness and kitch of Pop Century. Peace. :-)
POP ...Plenty OF Pleasure
Right from the get go we knew this was the place to stay..our 2 kids 7&10 loved the pool, loved the food ,loved the room.we would come back in a heart beat. The only complaint we had was at night there was alot of noise above and around us caused by people comming and going. If you stay here get on the 3rd or 4th floor. There are clean resorts but they could never come close to the extreme cleanliness found here.
A Clean and Fun Place!
My family just got back from our trip at Disney. We stayed 7 nights at the Pop Century Resort. Pros: A family friendly environment. The service was exceptional for a "Value" resort. The 3 heated pools (especially in February)! Shuttle bus service to resorts. We never had to wait more than 20 minutes. This includes after the fireworks at MK and Epcot. Cons: The food court was quite the trek from the 80s area where we stayed. I guess it helped us burn off the calories from the late-night hot chocolate and snacks. Oveall, we would recommend this place for anyone wishing to stay on-site and still not blow their vacation budget on lodging.
Very Nice!
The Pop Century is a VALUE RESORT. As long as you keep that in mind you should be pleased. Extremely clean and neat which is a priority for us as we have stayed in $200+ a night rooms that were filthy. Rooms are small but we were there to visit Disney World not hibernate in a hotel room. Housekeeping did a wonderful job and we always had plenty of linens, extra pillows, soap, shampoo, etc. My daughter was excited to find her stuffed animals arranged on the bed in the evenings when we returned from the parks. We could hear noises from the other rooms but nothing that kept us awake at nights. Food court was typical fare but generally did the trick. Otherwise we ventured out to some of the other resorts or Downtown Disney for sitdown table service. Buses ran frequently and got us where we wanted to go when we wanted to be there. Hotel staff was terrific. We paid extra for the preferred room and were pleased with a room by the pool in the 60's Bldg. Overall the Pop Century was a wonderful experience for the price.
Cool and Comfortable
Pop Century was a great resort and I think that the rooms were better than I expected concidering the price. We had just come from the Swan Hotel which is a delux and Pop Century was pretty close to it. The food was great and we hada wide variety to choose from. there were buses from all the parks to Pop Century so you never had to change buses. I never had to wait long for a bus whether I wasa going to a park or comming back. Everyone at Pop Century was friendly and helpful. Everything you would expect from a Disney Resort.
Value is exactly what you get
Let me preface this review by stating that Disney's Pop Century Resort is not going to be for everyone. If you are looking for large rooms with lots of amenities, than this isn't going to be the place for you. I just returned from a 4 nights stay at the Pop Century Resort and it was exactly what we were looking for. A very clean nicely decorated hotel that caters to children at a very inexpensive price. The rooms are not large and if you are staying for a week with more than one child this could be a small problem. But for two adults and one child we had plenty of space for everything we brought. The room did have an iron and ironing board, but no coffee maker (which would have been nice considering that coffee is $2 in the food court for a small cup). The grounds at the Pop Century Resort are very well taken care of and nicely decorated with items of Pop culture from the last several decades. There are 3 pools onsite and all are heated and seemed comfortably warm for February. In the central part of the resort there is a large check-in area (no problems for me to mention here), an arcade for the kids, a Disney store, and a fairly large food court which I will discuss next. The best way I can describe the food court is insanity. For a food court there were many choices and we found most of the food to actually be pretty good. It isn't all junk food either. We were able to eat Lo Mein and Salmon with salads and fruit for one meal. The caveat is that it is very expensive for what you get and since this is a very kid friendly resort, it is very crowded and loud. There were several drink stations and other than trying to get to the coffee in the morning most of the other beverages were pretty accessable. Since we were staying at a Disney resort we decided to take the buses to the Parks. In some instances this was a complete disaster and in others it worked out fine. If you plan on traveling to the Magic Kingdom, I can only say DO NOT TAKE THE DISNEY BUS FROM THE POP CENTURY RESORT, the same can be said for Downtown Disney. This is especially true for the Magic Kingdom if you plan on staying till close after the fireworks show. I'm not sure if they just have not worked out the schedules yet, but on Thursday night we waited for just under an hour to get on a bus back to the hotel. This doesn't work out well when you are traveling with a very tired 3 year old who has to go to the bathroom. On Saturday night we decided to leave early but ran into nearly the same problem at the Magic Kingdom. This time it was still a 30 minute wait for the bus. On our trip to Downtown Disney we encountered similar problems leaving the hotel. In fact, while waiting 45 minutes for a bus, several people standing with us missed their dinner reservations. But other than traveling to Downtown Disney and the Magic Kingdom, taking the bus to the other Parks actually worked out very well for us and who knows, maybe they will work out there problems on the Magic Kingdom and Downtown Disney routes soon. I can say that if I were going back to the Pop Century Resort again anytime time in the next month, I would definitely drive myself to the Magic Kingdom. In closing I can say that I would certainly stay at the Pop Century Resort again. For the price, I can't imagine anything being much better. If you don't mind spending $250 on a room and money is no object, you wouldn't see the value in the Pop Century Resort.
the bare necessities
As a quote from Jungle Book" the bare necessities" is what you get at disneys newest value resort. This is my families first time staying at a value resort and I have to say it will be our last. We were down looking at homes because we will be moving to florida over the summer and we decided to incorporate alittle disney magic into our trip for our two children. We were down for six days and we figured we would stay at a value and try it out. The food court is nice but very noisy and attached to the gift shop. The rooms are smaller than small and you get nothing extra. One small bottle of shampoo and not enough towels for the four of us. No over head lighting and not enough drawer space for even a family of two. We left half way through and went back to the wilderness lodge which is where we always stay. Maid service was very slow and none of the thrills you get from the maid service at the delux hotels such as towels in various shapes and your childrens stuffed animals and toys in different play scenes. I guess if all your corcerned about is a clean place to lay your head then its ok but I found it to be loud in every shape and form from the tacky decor to the loud music all the time. Not like the tranquil sounds of the soundtrack of Dances with wolves and the feel of the northwest that you get at the lodge. From now on, we will call the wilderness lodge home and never never stay anywhere else.
Great For Kids!
We have just returned from staying at Pop Century Feb 2nd-6th. We had a wonderful time. I too was afraid after reading a few of the reviews here. Please go here with an open mind. The hotel was wonderful. Our daughters, 3 and 5 thought it was the best. The pools were great fun and spacious. The food court (this is why I gave Pop an above average rather than excellent) well, I would try to eat in your room or go elsewhere. Some things were o.k. overpriced, but convenient. There is only 1 food court there for a ton of rooms and it is a bit mind blowing when you are walking around in there. (And we were there off season)The transportation system is great! We had great bus drivers, funny and got us there as fast as they could. Even when the parks emptied out at night they had a second bus ready and waiting. The people working in the luggage area were more than helpful and cheerful. Always willing to help.We had called and asked for bed rails late on our 2nd night and they were right there within minutes.I would say stay here for sure! Just work something out food wise rather than the food court. (Especially if you are vegetarian)
