Just returned from a relaxing break at the Cleopatra Palace, decided on B&B because we like to eat out and breakfast was my only gripe as poor quality bacon and lack of a decent pork sausage was a let down, plenty of lighter options though to choose from, as for rooms,... more

Great hotel although was mostly filled with old couples. A lot of variety in breakfast buffet although food was tasteless. Horrible! Apart from this hotel was brilliant. Couldn't fault staff at all. Nice rooms and nice view. Would definitly reccommend and can't wait to go back.

The staff and food were excellent and the Gala dinner evenings and staff entertaining were very enjoyable and worthwhile. If you have never experienced a backache and you do not wish to then ask for a topper on the bed . The pool beds are even harder (made of concrete) and... more

This Hotel is one of the best hotels in Tenerife. We got back on Friday after having a week’s stay and we enjoyed every minute. We had a fourth floor room, which had a large balcony with small pool, sun loungers, patio chairs, table, and umbrella. The fourth floor has... more

We stayed for 10 days and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel rooms are quite basic, not really 5*, but everything else was great. The only bug we had was the in-hotel entertainment in the evening. This tended to be weighted towards ballroom dancing type music. This was... more

This is rated as a 5* hotel and is anything but. I have stayed in better 3* hotels! The hotel and resort themselves are nice and look impressive but the rooms are small, shabby and dated. Our sheets had holes in them on most days. The shelf in the built-in wardrobe was... more

Good Hotel
This hotel is situated in a good tourist area but not too exotic, everything is made for tourists and doesn't look natural. Beeing on an island we expected lots of fresh fish but all the restaurants were steak-house and eglish pubs and served lots of things form italian to american so nothing was fresh. In the hotel the rooms were very nice and the breakfast was fantastic, we had a room with a sea-view really nice and the staff was helpfull. The hotel is impressive and we liked our stay there but we probably won't return because of the island wich is more commercial than exotic.
Loved the Cleopatra Palace
Just arrived back from 7 nights at the Cleopatra Palace Hotel. What a lovely hotel - friendly and efficient staff, spotlessly clean rooms - just two reasons why I would recommend the hotel and will definitely be planning a return visit. We booked flights online (with BA) and reserved our rooms directly via the hotel website. Touched down in Tenerife at 20:20 and were enjoying our first beer in the hotel at 21:00, having already been checked in by extremely friendly staff. Our room had king-size bed which is a nice change from many European hotels. We booked a sea view which was certainly worth the extra, although our teenagers shared a room overlooking the pool which was also lovely. Breakfast in the hotel was excellent with many choices from full cooked "English" breakfast, cereal, fruit, cold meats and several types of bread/pastries. Service was very good with plenty of staff on hand to re-fill coffee/tea. We did not eat in the hotel restaurants, finding several excellent eateries across the road above the exclusive shopping complex. We tried Chinese, Indian, Mexican, Italian and Spanish, all of which were extremely high quality. The hotel is situated in a beautiful, well-maintained area of Playa de las Americas - we did venture one day up to the renowned "Veronicas" but were extremely relieved to return to the Mare Nostrum Resort. The hotel appeared to be only half-full, although school holidays have not yet begun so this may change. Entertainment was not a priority for us as we wanted just to relax by the pool each day but for anyone expecting lots of entertainment / activities I would recommend you choose the Med Palace next door which is part of the same complex but has lots of children's and adult entertainment on offer. The Snack Bar situated by the poolside offered the usual Toasted Sandwich/French Fries combinations etc and provided a steady supply of cold drinks during the day - staff extremely friendly. Overall a wonderful restful holiday in a hotel that offered absolutely everything we wanted. We will definitely be going back.
Nice but overpriced!!!!!
I have just recently come back from this hotel and was very disappointed... The location of the hotel was good and then staff were friendly, but the rooms, entertainment and food were very poor and not what I world expect in a 5* a'la carte property. We had a pool view room which I would not recommend if your looking for a quiet room as it got very noisy throughout the day. The Cleopatra Palace pool is very small so I would recommend the Mediterranean Palace next door. The rooms were very small and woud definitely only fit two people comfortably. Entertainment in the evening I would definitely recommend going into Los Cristianos which is about 5 minutes from the hotel... Overall friendly staff and great location, but not worth the 5* price!
A disabled traveller's opinion
I travelled with my Mother who is 81 and a disabled traveller and a wheelchair user. We were booked into the Med Palace (having stayed there in 2004) upon arrival (which was around 9.30pm) were pleasantly surprised to find that we had been "upgraded" to the Cleopatra Palace. The staff were most helpful...taking my Mother to reception and collecting luggage from our hire vehicle. The porter even parked my car for me as there were no available spaces at the complex. The room was large enough for my Mother (who can walk short distances) to move around in but we found that she had to walk out of the hotel room into the corridor as the space was limited to manoevre her and the wheelchair together. The bathroom was excellent...double basin and a large area in general. The cleanliness of this hotel has to be mentioned both in the accomodation and public areas. We usually retired around 11pm, the entertainment over in the Med Palace could be heard but after a busy day didn't bother us at all. The pool area was immaculate as were the gardens and general appearance. For eur30 we kept our room after checkout (a must for my Mother) without any problem. She found the entire stay very relaxing and would definately return as I would. We paid a very realistic amount for our holiday....just under 750 pounds for 11 nights Bed and Breakfast...including scheduled day flights from London.....a bargain at £375 each. The only negative point I can make about the hotel complex is that they appear to not have any rooms which are specifically designed for disabled travellers, although the public areas pose no problems for wheelchairs.
Travel agents view
I have just returned from staying in the Cleopatra Hotel and i as a select travel agent will be endorsing this hotel and chain. We were part of 800 Travel Agents holding a conferance there and it was handled by the hotel with no problem at all. Before we went, i read some of the negative reports posted and can't beleve that they have an grounds to complain, the staff were very helpful, the hotel was spotless and the pools and spa's were perfect. I booked this hotel through WeTravel2U and can't complain about anything. Overall View ~ If we ever visit Tenerife again i know where we will be staying and who to book with.
Cleopatra Palace - Mare Nostrum Resort
We stayed at the Cleopatra Palace, part of the Mare Nostrum Resort at the end of April 2006. On arrival, the staff were very helpful and welcoming. We had a room with a balcony overlooking the pool and Mount Tiede and it was extremely clean and quite spacious. We stayed on a B&B basis. Breakfast is served up until 10.30am and is pretty good. It has everything on offer from continental breakfasts to fried breakfasts, a good selection of cereals, fruits, breads, pastries and hot and cold drinks (including sparkling wine if you like that sort of thing in the morning)! The pool area is lovely and towels and sunbeds are free of charge. The hotel will give you a card to swap for your towel and you can return it later in the day. The Cleopatra Pool area also has a jacuzzi and a small pool for children (although the main pool isn't too deep). It wasn't heated when we were there so wait for the sun to hit the jacuzzi and pool area and it will be lovely! You are also able to use the pool at the Mediterranean Palace which is really nice and a bit more lively. They did aqua aerobics at noon everyday and anyone can join in. There is also a nudist pool on the 4th floor of the Med Palace! There is a lovely beach just a step away from the hotel where sunbeds were around 6 euros a day. At the front of the hotel, there are lots of nice restaurants. We would recommend the steak house (by Harry's Bar). Further on down the road there is a fab American rib restaurant called Tony Romas. The food and service were great! If you want a cheaper meal or beer, head along the coastal path towards Los Cristianos where you were find more bars and restaurants. There is a bar called the Surfers Bar which is run by English people and you can get a pint of San Miguel there for 1 euro 30! In the evening there is a fountain and light display in front of Harry's bar which the kids will like. For those of you who like crazy golf, there is a fab course just over the road from the hotel - the surroundings are beautiful and it's open til midnight. We saw more adults play than children but it's suitable for all with two 18 hole courses and one nine hole course. It was 6 euros for adults and I think 4 euros for children. However, if you don't want to play, they do allow you to have a wander round. There is a nice clean supermarket next door to the crazy golf. Spirits are quite cheap in there! We would definitely recommend that you take a trip to Tiede - it's breathtaking! We hired a car from Orcar just next to the beach bar near to the hotel. It was 31 euros for the day! It's a 50 euro deposit which they have in cash but return it to you when you have finished with the car. To get to the summit of Tiede you need to take a cable car (it's not as scary as it looks). It was 22 euros per person but absolutely worth it for the fantastic views above the clouds. Take a warm jacket though, it's cold up there! Take a walk down to the Info Centre in the Cleopatra Palace where you can find out about various trips and get internet access. My boyfriend did a 3 hour quad biking safari and he absolutely loved every minute of it. It was 78 euros. The weather was lovely and hot but it does go cooler at night so you may need to take a cardi or similar. For info, you can expect to pay around 20 euros in a taxi from the airport to the hotel. All in all a fabulous holiday and we cannot wait to return.
The is a great place
We went there in April 2006 just before Easter. This really is a great place, five 5 star hotels all in one complex with loads of restaurants and pools to use. The location is great as well, right on the beach, half way between Playa de las Americas and Los Christianos. Three hotels surround the Roman pool, being Cleopatra, Marco Antonio and Jules Ceasar. The are very similar with nothing to choose between them, unless you want to pay more for sea view in which case the Cleopatra is the one you need. For late afternoon sun on the balcony (my top desire on a holiday)choose the non-pool side of the Marco Antonio, nice view over gardens with no road, and you get a side sea view as well. There are loads of restaurants nearby, in fact the whole area surrounding this complex is very much up market. It has its own 2,000 seater theatre, under the pyramid, and we saw a fantastic show there, really worthwhile, espcially if produced by Carman de Moto as ours was, she seems to do most there. Best restaurant on site is the Pyramid, with live opera every night. Best local restaurant is Bianco, an Italian opposite the hotel which is also very good. Overall, if you like class and can pay a bit more than the standard Spanish rates, then you get a really fantastic place to stay. I am happy to give further info by e-mailling alanhughes@ntlworld.com. Alan Hughes
mare nostrum - so disappointing!!
We have just returned from a stay at the Mare Nostrum Resort. We stayed at the Marco Antonio Hotel and I wish I had taken more notice of some of the reviews that I had read about this place before we booked. It is certainly nowhere near 5* - at a push I would rate it 3*. We stayed on the 4th floor in a room with a balcony and a plunge pool. My advicewould be, don't waste your money. The pool was dirty with pubic hair floating on its surface. The balcony was overrun with ants and the overall cleanliness of the place left much to be desired. Linen was not changed once in the 5 days that we were there and the towels were worn and coarse. The public areas look quite impressive if a little over the top 'classical' style but the rooms are small, dirty and in need of updating. The choice of food for breakfast was ok but the hot food was lukewarm with much fatty bacon on offer. The worst thing for us was the rudeness of the staff. Never again for us and think twice before wasting your money at this vastly over-rated resort
Public areas very impressive, room a let down
Have just returned from a 6 night stay in the Marco Antonio Palace. Decided to try it after reading reviews here. However, we were disappointed. The main areas of the hotel look good, if a bit 'tacked on'. Felt it would be more beneficial to put some resources into redecorating the bedrooms. We had a pool view room, which on first impression was very dark and gloomy, room furnishings and curtains/bedcovers were in need of replacing.Definitely not 5 star quality. We ate only breakfast at the resort which was very good, as the restaurants in the Americas Plaza opposite were superb, there were no childrens menus in the resort restaurants. The pools at the hotel were surrounded by marble and the nearest sun beds were too far away to comfortably supervise a child. The poolside staff were friendly and helpful and proximity to the beach was great. The resort is in a lovely area of Las America's, with wonderful shops and a delightful water fountain display to music opposite most nights.
afternoon sunshine
The hotel is situated in the mare nostrum resort which is very good . The Julio CAESER is also very good staff friendly and helpful food excellant the only minor prblem is the afternoon sun as the balconies are facing away from the sea so you lose the sun from around 3..00pm
