Not a 4 star hotel, rooms were miserable. We asked to be moved but would be charged 50euros extra per night. If you are 1 minute late to breakfast you will be turned away. Very disappointing, needs a full refurbishment.

We decided to go back to Carihuela for a wekk there and to our delight this bar was still there. It remains a fantastic place to eat!! Excellent value for money. They offered a carvery buffet or an a-la-carte menu. Food was home cooked and extremely delicious. The staff... more

We were booked through Central Holidays as part of a cultural trip called "Discover Andalucía" sponsored from Town Hall NY. They booked us for 5 nights in this horrible place as they thought; it is so representative of the wide cultural heritage of Andalucía. This Hotel... more

This was not the hotel we originally booked. 7 days before departure our operator advised that the chosen hotel was full (although a confirmed booking a month before) and they offered the Hotel Alay as a like for like 4 star alternative. The hotel is well located right... more

Good Hotel for Weekend Stay
Me & and a couple of friends stayed here for 3 nights. Its a nice hotel but the decor is a little dated & I am not talking 80's, I am talking more 70's. The buffet breakfast was nice. Lots of variety. The staff were nice but my ipod went missing from my room (no safes in room)so I would try & lock your valuables in the hotel safe. The entertainment consisted of one guy on a piano. The location is really good for the beach & all the restaurants & clubs. Most rooms have a lovely view of the beach. All in all I would recommend this hotel for a weekend but maybe not a week or 2 weeks
Best thing was the view
My husband and myself stayed at the Alay for 10 days on a B&B basis. We had a room on the 12 floor which had a great view. The hotel was quite clean but I’m afraid I have to agree with earlier comments that the hotel could do with some modernisation. As for the food, well I’m pleased we decided to just stay B&B as it was very repetitive. Some of the staff were friendly but we found most of the waiters to be quite miserable. The pianist in the piano bar was great, very talented and friendly The location is really good but I have to say we found Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights to be very noisy. From about midnight to 4-30 am there was a continual stream of taxies and many young people shouting and singing. I really liked the area but I don’t think I shall be staying at the Alay in the future.
loved the view from the l2th Floor
Have just spent l week at the Hotel Alay. Our room was on the top floor overlooking the new marina, what a view. Excellent facilities and location, staff very friendly and helpful, food not quite 4 star but sufficient. Good position for getting around the area (Bus stop at top of street) This hotel is not really for the holiday maker as there is no entertainment as such only a keyboard player in the evenings. The hotel is used mostly by Golfers and people on short breaks. Would go again but only on B & B basis.
Pleasantly surprised after reading your bad reviews.
After spending five days in the Alay my family and I could find no problems, except for the tea, in the hotel. It was clean, the staff were courtious and very helpful. The location was superb. We consider it to be an excellent hotel and great value for the cost.
Nice Hotel, Great Location
Great location, brilliant sea views from front rooms. Room was very nice, bathroom and furniture seemed very new. Would recommend.
Beware of other peoples opinions !!!
Is this the same hotel that people have given such bad reports, as after reading them I really thought that we had made a very big mistake. Having worked in the travel trade I know only too well that everyones idea of a good hotel is very different. The location to the beach is excellent, just a few yards. The Marina is across the road, buses to all parts of the resort and other resorts along the coast stop at the top of the road, and one of many taxi ranks is outside the Marina. The hotel is spotlessly clean and bright with marble floors. We found the staff very cheerful, knowledgable and most helpful. Upon arrival, a porter met our taxi and waited while we checked in taking our luggage to our room. The rooms, again were spotlessly clean, clean towels daily, bed linen changed every other day. Hot water at all times, not the norm for Spain, lots of hangers in the wardrobes for clothes. The TV had Sky news, CNN, and other English, German, French, Italian & of course Spanish channels. The buffet breakfast had something for everyone, even a section for slimmers & veggies. I am at a loss at the opinions of some ex guests, this is a very good 'Spanish' 4 star hotel. Please dont confuse the Spanish ratings with the UK or US, they do differ. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel to friends and would stay in the Hotel Alay when we return to Benalmadena. Try it, you will not be dissapointed.
The Best Christmas And New Year I Have Ever Spent
My wife and I celebrated an Irish Christmas and New Year with 400+ like minded people at the Alay between the 23rd December and the 3rd January. The earliest we got to bed one night was 1am, most nights we were singing and dancing till 3-4am. The staff were very friendly and hard working, the hotel was clean with comfortable, well furnished rooms. The food was a combination of Spanish and English cuisine which I and the majority of the other guests found to be excellent. It was a buffet service with a good selection to cater all tastes. The hotel is well situated close to all shops and amenities, and has superb walks along the sea-front,the local buses are cheap and regular and there are plenty of shops within a short distance. I have read some of the other reviews of this hotel, and it is obvious that not everyone will like it, I would imagine that children could get bored there and is probably best suited for couples. We have stayed at several hotels all over Spain and this one is a typical 4* Spanish Hotel. We liked the area and the hotel so much that we have already booked to return later this year.
Dnt bring children with you
Im 15 and me and my family went to the hotel for christmas for a special irish thing which was going on... well to be honest wasnt very enjoyable and was very boring... when you look it says theres a games rooms, swiminnings pools and everytink like that but WHERE WERE THEY.... the food was disgusting and after first nite we decided to start eating out.. the people there were very very friendly and the staff were very nice.. also did meet very nice people there which hope to talk to someday but apart from that i wouldnt go back again as its not for my age group as there was nuffink at all for me to do there... fnkz for reading.. overall im sure older people wood lyk it der but for my age group woodnt advise you to go there.. If nick reads this i wood lyk to tlk to you so plz write ur comment n hopefully we can tlk fnkz..
Hated the Alay
Position of this hotel is perfect after that it all goes downhill. Upper rooms and corridors all stank of drains, we were assured this was "temporary" and would be corrected. It never was, we had to keep plugs in the bath/washbasin/bidet at all times, and the maid sprayed air freshener which helped briefly. Food very average and no tea or coffee served with the evening meal unless it was purchased from the surly and unsmiling dining room staff. BEWARE THURSDAY WHEN RABBIT AND BABY KID ARE SERVED! No evening entertainment other than a man playing a keyboard. This hotel should not be rated 4 star, 2 star is more like it. We wouldn't stay there again if we got 2 free weeks.
Great location
I have just come back from a week at the Alay and found it to be a nice hotel, clean and with friendly staff. The food was always nice and there was always plenty of it! The location is the best thing as you are right over the road from the marina and an up market supermarket, you are also very close to the beach. For what I paid I can't really complain, these days people expect 5 star service at 2 star prices - you get what you pay for! The small 24hr square is a short walk away for the people that enjoy the 'Magaluf' experience....say no more... The only downside are the scratch card touts, under NO CIRCUMSTANCES take a scratch card from the touts. Every card is a winning ticket and such fabulous prizes, trust me just say no and walk on!!! They get abusive if you try and wriggle out after you suss the con...
