" I stayed at the Volga when it hosted... "

I stayed at the Volga when it hosted a travel conference. The rooms were very clean and tidy and the public rooms were fine for a hotel of its size. The hotel had a reasonable pool which was obviously not used much at that time of year. The food was good.

The Hotel is set back from the beach and is quite near the main part of the town. This brings with it two big problems. The hotel is on a very narrow side street at the crossroads with another narrow street and this results in considerable confusion when coaches are unloading passengers. There are also big delays when the coaches have to do a 25 point turn to get into the appropriate position to depart from the hotel.

The trip to the beach is quite a trek too. Although, in theory, it is just on the other side at the end of the road, the problem is that the Coastal Railway runs through there. This means that to get across you have to walk several hundred metres in either direction before you can find a crossing point to get across to the beach. Surprisingly there is very little noise from the railway.

Calella is a resort which looks past its best, though to be fair there was a lot of building work going on at the time and attempts were being made to take it upmarket. I thought Calella was fine for a 3 day break, but I would not want to spend a fortnight's holiday there.
