We have stayed at this Hotel twice - once in 2009 and once this summer 2011. The hotel serves good food three times a day, although selection is limited. Rooms were very clean both visits, fresh linen and towels daily. The hotel's poor entertainment in the evening lets it... more

True, the walls are paper thin, you could hear a wasp fart next door and the people upstairs returning at circa 3am sound as if they're doing a clog dance.
I went with my 8 year old son and we had a good time. Would definately go again.

Bit dissapointed
It took us 2 hours to complete a 40 minute transfer on arrival. We arrived around 11pm so we found a pizza place outside the hotel and went to bed. The rooms were tiny and very dated, walls were like paper. It was full of french or itallian school kids, the resort was mostly closed and seemed very tacky, everywhere was very 70's massive neons and loud decorations. Once saving grace was that the staff and people were very friendly, but in the daytime it was like gods waiting room, loads of coffin dodgers. The average age was well into the 60's, being a young couple we didn't find anyone like minded there at all. My advice is if you wasnt to sit in a bar all day and drink, maybe this is for you, however if you want a bit of culture and relaxation, avoid callela altogether and if you feel compelled to go out of morbid curiosity try the Amika Hotel down the road which is closer to the beach and has at least some amenities.
hell hole of a hotel
Just got back from the Olympic we went for a short break It was suppose to be a three star I wouldnt give it a rating at all . The food was atrocious You would not give it to a dog My wife was ill for 2 of our 3 day stay with a very bad upset stomach ,She was not the only one we spoke to a lot of people who had or were suffering the same symptons The staff were ignorant and gave no help if requested. If you wanted to retire to your room at night ,to sleep .forget it .The students who were staying in the Hotel seemed to come alive at night and had no respect for other guests Again the staff just seemed to turn a blind eye to them .My advice to anyone .DO NOT GO TO THE OLYMPIC THE HOTEL FROM HELL DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY
Food from Hell
We are just back from Hotel Olympic. It is a lovely Hotel rooms, Spotless, plenty of lifts, you did not have to wait long for one, Breakfast was awful, Eggs were not cooked, Bacon, Sausage also. To put it lightly the food at all times was atrocious. Chefs could not tell you what you were easting. Other staff were very helpful and pleasant. Also no food for kids e.g. Chips, Burgers etc. Would advise to steer clear of this Hotel all times.
Very good stuff, worth the money....
Stayed in the Olympic Hotel in Calella with my husband John and my two young girls aged 6 and 10. We booked early in January with a charming man called David from Fiesta Sun - it always gives you the best prices if you book early. Although the hotel is admitedly not the worlds greatest, the holiday came at an affordable price and the standard of the hotel was very good. Food was of enough variety to keep the children happy, the hotel was clean and the hotel bedrooms were kept tidy by the friendly staff. The hotel is in an ideal location as it is only 5 mins walk to either the beach or the town centre. All in all we really enjoyed this trip and unlike others, we went with the mentality of making a good holiday for ourselves and guess what... we had an excellent time.
A lovely holiday
After reading all the reviews on here I just had to write a peice on the Olympic hotel. At the end of the day you have to remember this is a 3 star hotel! If you want fluffy towels and duck down quilts go for 4-5 star hotels! The only complaint I would have would be the distance from the beach, but I went in November so did not really have beach weather. As we arrived at the hotel we was greated by the reception staff who were very helpful and spoke great english. The rooms were clean and tidy, ok a little small but its a place to sleep in thats it! Had a lovely view from our balcony of the pool. The food was alot better than what i expected. You got to remember you are in another country and there cooking methods are different to ours so u gotta expect that! I tried most things on offer and all very nice. The staff in the dining room were constantly cleaning tables and topping up food, all were very polite. Evening entertainment was very good considering I went in November! A disco some night, Flamenco dancers and Salsa. The bar staff were very efficent and friendly. Always said hello and thank you, But then again it depends how u talk to them! If some one demanded a drink of of me the way i see some people id be inclined to forget the thank you's and hellos! They were constantly running about right up till after 1am! As for the noise you have to expect that. People do go away on holiday to have a good time and let there hair down! As its all inclusive u know your gonna get a few Well oiled people about! If you dont want that dont go all inclusive! Also you cant blame the hotel for the noise, there are lots of signs up to keep the noise down but its down the the holiday makers to respect other people, and you gotta admit alot of the british are not the most respectful people in the world esp after a drink! Overall I was very happy with this hotel and the people I spoke to out there had no complaints. I have been to 2 other hotels in Costa Brava, both 4 star and were no where near as good as this one!
Not as bad as all that
We have just returned from this hotel and found it to be prity good, Ok the bar staff can be a bit grumpy but they were very busy at night, We found very few of the long queues that other people have had, the only long one was for toast in the mornings, The food is good, i am vegetarian and found plenty that i could eat, there are microwaves supplied so if your food is cold you can always heat it. The room was clean and tidy and we had fresh towels every day, we could have done with a bit more room as we had 4 beds in our room, having said that we were not there much. My 2 sons had a fantastic time in the pools and didn't find them that cold. Maybe we were lucky as we were on the 2nd floor we didn't have to much noise worries. All in all this is a good hotel and i would definally go again given the chance
GIVE HOTEL OLYMPIC A VERY WIDE BERTH!!!
Was promised a peaceful, well run hotel with polite staff. Not so. Rude, arrogant and unhelpful (apart from the nice lady on reception). Food was inedible so what was supposed to be "all inclusive" turned out to be far more expensive as more money required to feed oneself! The rooms, however, were basic but clean, as were the toilet facilities. The noise was INCREDIBLE! There are signs on every floor stating "quiet after 12 midnight." Obviously, 95% of the guests couldn't read ! For a hot country growing an abundance of fruit, there was none at breakfast. The only cereal was coco-pops (!) and the fruit juice just wasn't! The queues for the dining room were horrendous, so, we had just the one meal there upon arrival plus trying breakfast the next day, but that was just about it. I don't know who invented spam meatballs, but there you go! NEVER, EVER AGAIN. Take my advice, JUST DON'T GO!
Food aint good
We are just back from our trip to this hotel and looking back the hotel itself is by no meens the worst you have ever seen but the food is. Rooms: Are very basic but cleaned every day towels changed bed changed a few times a week and floor cleaned. In other reviews I read that some bathrooms had broken tiles. I did not find this to be true as we had two rooms for our party. One looked liked it had not long been updated but the other rooms bathroom could do with a lick of paint. The front view from the hotel is a bit of an eye sore as we were on the 6th level facing on to a bit of scrub land and the back of another hotel. Our room had a TV with only two english spoken channels. We had A/C but after first week didn't seem to work so well. My biggest problem with the rooms is being stuck on the 6th floor were the balconays are easily to climb on to the railings if you have small kids like I have. Pools: There are 4 pools all are well kept with hardly any litter and there is no glass aloud at pool areas. There is a pool bar at the main pool but the staff behind it are not that pleasant except for the one who claims he is the pool bar manager. The pools can get a bit busy even the large kids pool can get over crowded with teens playing around in them with balls etc. A great thing about the main pool is that they are strict about no lilos etc being aloud in to save any one being drowned below them. Main Bar: We visited a few other H-Top hotels (name of company that own Hotel Olympic) and by far our main bar is the biggest of the local H-Top hotels. Do not expect a smile from bar staff I guess I could have got more of smile from one of the fish in the sea. I will tell more about all Inc. in a minute but with your card you can get 2 drinks at a time from the bar. My tip is get your drinks go to the back of line and start again because by the time you have finished them you will only have a five minute wait to get more. Service aint quick. Entertainment: The entertainment team were superb with not only my kids but all other kids. Christina and David must be shattered as they never seemed to stop from 10am-10pm. They have a kids disco each night from 9-10 but the entertainment for the adults is basic. The Restaraunt: My advice is don't go there unless you are looking to bump someone off. The plates are chipped the cutlery is filthy and the cleaners in the resteraunt are not the most pleasant of people you could care to meet. All Inclusive: This was my first experience of all inc. and if this is the way all inc. is it will be the last. You are given a swipe card with your pic. on it when you arive, not told much about it but you soon find out what and when you can get drinks and ice creams from the staff serving. They appear to make up thier own rules. Sometimes you can get more than 2 drinks with one card other times you get your 2 drinks and made to feel lucky you got them. I wanted an ice cream for one of my kids it was after 6pm and because i was using my card I was told that you can only get ice cream with a kids card another rule I discovered. All inc. does not start until after 10am in the bar or poolside bar. If you are looking for a drink of tea or anything before this time you need to go to the resteraunt wich opens at 8am. The only things that were included in all Inc. were Breakfast, lunch, Dinner, Snacks wich consisted of burgers hot dog like things, chips beans and if lucky sometimes scrambled egg do not expect this food to be like you get at home this you cold get between meal times but finished at 6.30pm. you also could get draft Soft drinks, local alcohol produced drinks and small pots of ice cream everything else you had to pay for. The nicest staff in the hotel are the cleaners that clean your room they are always pleasant and say hello when passing.
pleasant
we found the hotel very friendly staff were very helpful and pleasing the food was good and plenty of it the hot food was always hot not like the last hotel i stayed in at salou yes we could hear the people in the next room but not when it was time to sleep we enjoyed our holiday thankyou all
Don't go
Unfortunately it was the worst holiday I have ever been on. I had the misfortune to stay at the Olympic hotel in Calella .The hotel is decribed as a peaceful location suitable for families and couples for a relaxing holiday. First I will tell you about the hotel It badly needs upgrading the decor is chipped the bathroom outdated with chipped tiles and the mirrors “rusty”. The beds are very uncomfortable you can feel every spring. The walls were so thin that you could hear the neighbours in the next room using the loo (you can use your imagination here) Two of the lifts are so old you can feel the floor moving when you step in them. There was no air conditioning as promised it had not been switched on. Could not find the sauna the swimming pools were not heated and so were for too cold for us older people. The rooms however were clean and the food was good. I could have put up with all of this except for one thing. We shared the hotel with about 300 teenagers. It was not peaceful or relaxing. I did not get any sleep the whole time I was there. I will sent another review in a few days with photos
