I was not looking forward to holidaying at this hotel as I had read all the other reviews and was expecting the hotel to be terrible.
But when we got to the hotel the staff were very polite and helpful the actual building was very clean and tidy the 3 swimming pools and baby pool were kept clean and the kids enjoyed playing with there beach ball in the pools.
The food was very nice each evening was a different choice and plenty of it and plenty for the kids to choose I didn’t find the food was cold like alot of people put in there reviews. Even the kids enjoyed the food and kids can be fussy.
The entertainment was good they always had a disco for the kids and then entertainment for the older people later so there was variety for all ages.
The rooms were very small 4 beds to a room so there was hardly any room to move but we learnt to live with that and as we were using the rooms just as a base to sleep it was fine for us but the rooms were always kept clean and tidy.
Overall our holiday was great and these people complaining are obviously looking for 5* treatment in a 3* hotel.

Very dated hotel and not what we expected. The staff were very unfriendly and we felt that everything was too much hassle for them.
Drinks were watered down and the food was below average. Place was full of Germans, Dutch and Spanish. Only a small percentage of Brits there. Entertainment was brilliant.....if you spoke Spanish. Not good!
Don’t recommend this hotel. In fairness, the rooms were cleaned and looked after everyday.

Last minute holiday, 2 weeks all inclusive, 16.08.2005-30.08.2005. 2 adults and 2 kids. Moved to this hotel from original by holiday company. This is a large hotel with seven floors only one lift working. Rooms are clean but small, 4 beds to a room. The food is average but always cold, very often no food left as greedy Germans are having 5 or 6 meals each. The drinks are locally produced (rola cola, watered down beers and spirits). The entertainment is virtually non-existent. Mainly caters for Spanish people. Approx 90% Spanish, 5%german, 3% other, and 2% English. Mainly Spanish language spoken. Hotel located in a very quiet place, very little to do. This hotel is not suitable for any English families. We would recommend you choose a different resort. The only positive about this hotel is the 3 swimming pools.

Have just returned from 10 days holiday staying at the Olympic Hotel in Calella. I will get straight to the point... DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL - it is by far the worse place I have stayed in my life.
The rooms are small and in serious need of refurbishment. Paint was peeling off the walls, tiles in the bathroom were falling off, mattresses had burst springs and the smell of it would really make you sick.
The entertainment was very poor every night. The same staff that worked behind the bar during the day done the entertainment at night… Crazy.
I don’t think I saw the staff in this hotel smile over the 10 days, everything just seemed like a big hassle to them. (Sorry the cleaners did smile and were very polite)
We were all inclusive during our stay and were treated like scum. We had to queue for everything. A hotel of this size should have more than one member of staff behind the bar at night.
I really can’t go on because it is bring back memories that I would like to forget.. My holiday was ruined by this hotel.
Please take my advice and keep well clear of this place..

The reports on this and another website ruined the run up to my holiday. I imagined I was going to a holiday from hell and I was gladly mistaken. We arrived at about 11 at night the receptionist was very friendly, the room was admittedly small but clean. The hotel had three pools and a baby pool situated at different parts of the hotel, the pool was lovely and clean. The food was very nice not at all cold and there was always something the children could eat. The entertainment wasn’t great but there was always something going on the kids enjoyed it. A couple of shows were good. The beach wasn’t far and was nice to walk to in the evening. The only problem we had was with the drinks at the bar, you was only allowed 2 per person and as a family of five we usually had to all go to the bar together to get a drink and you would queue for average of about twenty minutes at a time in the evening. The only problem with this was trying to save your table as the bar got very busy. So all in all we had a very good holiday the staff were friendly and hotel very clean.

Hotel Olympic.... The worst holiday in my whole life. Our rooms were not ready on arrival. The hotel interior looked like a block of flats. The staff were so unfriendly we used to feel like they didn’t want us there. One occasion my son put a euro in the pc and it crashed, I asked for them to return the euro and ended up having a huge dispute with a receptionist. The food was so bad to look at never mind taste, that we had to spend three times more money on eating out twice a day. The bar staff could not smile and again you felt like you were putting them out when asking for service. All they wanted to do was blow their whistles at the children all day long telling them to take the inflatables out of the pool or tell them off for some thing. The entertainment was none existent except for the hourly disco they had on each evening. The maid service was the only good thing, very friendly and always smiling. As for h top they must be new in the business because they obviously don’t care for the people who keep them in business.
Callela I think has seen its day as a holiday resort. The local bars had no atmosphere and except for an amusement arcade there was nothing for the children either.

We Stayed at the HTop Olympic Hotel in Calella, on an all inclusive basis, on arrival at the hotel our first impressions were good, but they soon went down hill, We had asked for a low floor as we have a small child, we were put on the sixth out of seventh floor, the hotel was full of students and was very nosey, There was no children’s menu, and the general menu was appalling, the food was just luke warm and if you required hot food there were two microwaves one at each end of the server units to warm your meals, it was the worst food in a restaurant which we have ever seen, it was so bad that we ate out most evenings, the entertainment was rubbish, there was nothing for the children to do during the day, the evening entertainment was ballroom dancing and line dancing for the OAP's, the children were not allowed any inflatable in the pool, i.e. rubber rings or beach balls,
The beer in the bars tasted like it had been watered down, on the whole it was the holiday from hell and we would not go back there even if someone offered to pay all our expenses.
Also the fault reporting was something else, the door to our room did not lock we reported this every day it was still the same when we left.

The hotel was ok. I wouldn’t go back there unless it was a real cheapie. When we arrived we thought the hotel looked great, we got our photos taken for the all-inclusive cards, but once we had been shown to our room, we were disappointed.
The rooms are badly in need of upgrading - the paint is peeling off the walls, the furniture is older than me and we were very limited for space, we had to move the cot every time we wanted into the wardrobe. The air conditioning did not work and when I queried it, I was told it only worked in peak times (which is not stated on internet or in the books). The rooms were cleaned daily & towels laid out. We had a great view from the seventh floor but this isn't ideal for children (I was told that they put all the families on the seventh floor because it is quieter, I wasn’t quite sure what that meant at the time until all the school kids started arriving in bus after bus).
The dining room was just like a canteen, but if you were late on getting in for dinner, you had to share the dining room with around 100 Spanish school kids (that is not a nice experience), which made it more like a dinner school. the food was ok, there was always something for the adults, but nothing for the kids except dried out chips. Once we had been there a few days the food started getting a little better for the kids (I think this might have been something to do with all the school kids arriving).
The entertainment was poor, especially for kids and the bar staff were on the fiddle (watering down the drinks & swiping your cards several times so they can keep the money from the paying customers).
The pools were good (although sometimes over-run with the school kids), although they were cold because of the time of year.
On our departure day we were told we could leave our luggage in the Luggage room and enjoy the day. This was not the case, when we got to the luggage room, it was that full that the door didn’t close and we had to move luggage to get in. The room was not locked and there was nowhere to get washed and changed to leave for the airport. When we were leaving to get our transfer coach the barman shouted me back and asked for our all-inclusive cards (obviously so he could use these until midnight to make his fiddle).
If you are looking for a nice relaxing holiday, this is NOT the place for you.

The hotel was situated approx 500 meters from the beach, up a slight gradient hill.
From the outside, the hotel looked marvellous, until we checked in, and told we were being allocated a room in the 7th floor(with a 1yr old child). When we booked we were not told that there was 5 full school parties on holiday there, which put a damper on our hols, as everywhere you went in the hotel, they were there.
The food was ok, if you like pasta everyday, dried chips served mostly 7 days a week, and the buffet was the worst I've ever seen in a hotel. The bar was ok, but I seem to think a lot of the alcohol is watered down as I never once got slightly tipsy when I drank there, but mysteriously got tipsy if I went to the bar next door to the hotel. Transport is very good to the hotel from the town of Callella, a train can pick you up from the entrance of the hotel to the city centre. The pools were in first class condition. The maids cleaned our room everyday, which was spot-on. The entertainment at night was rubbish, most people went out at night as it was that bad.!
As the week progressed, we were told by other holidaymakers that you could book another top hotel for either your lunch or dinner for the next evening, but give 2hrs advance to the reception. We went the hotel Ameika for lunch/dinner and it was by far better, also went to the Pineda Palace and it also was 1st class. Trains to Barcelona take 55mins with a round trip for 2 adults costing 10.40 euros.
All in all my holiday wasn’t the best one I picked, but I will not be going back there in a hurry.

I found the hotel to be first rate. It was a great place for families to stay. Although it was at the top of a steep hill and therefore a bit of a hike back from the beach, it was serviced regularly by a tractor train which was cheap and fun.
The kid’s entertainment team were brilliant. They were really hardworking and multi-lingual so could accommodate all the different nationalities that stay at the hotel, which included French, Dutch, English and Spanish. There was all day entertainment as well as mini discos in the evening. The younger ones never had a moment’s boredom.
There were 3 excellently maintained swimming pools, children’s play area and outdoor table tennis tables, even archery. Indoors there were pool tables, and various other games not known in England. There was also a small souvenir shop - great for the last minute gift you always forget.
The food was served on a buffet style and was good. Sometimes individual dishes were excellent such as the paella that was made fresh by one of the chefs in the restaurant as you waited.
The rooms were kept spotless by the maids who were all friendly and helpful as were the other staff. There were more than enough lifts dotted through the hotel to serve everybody though obviously there was sometimes a little wait when first arriving because of sheer numbers.
This part of the coast is served by an excellent bus and train service. We travelled over a lot of Northern Spain by train and were impressed by the pristine cleanliness, punctuality and efficiency of the trains. They are also air conditioned and very cheap. The local buses are also punctual. The tractor trains were always on time too. Almost all the staff on public transport could speak adequate English.
The Ferris reps were on hand for problems if you needed help or advice and to book you on many of the available tours if you so wished. The only down side of the holiday was the length of the journey by coach each way. This was made worse on the day we returned by not knowing when the return coach would be arriving so having to sit outside and wait for hours. However we couldn’t fault the staff on the beautifully clean coaches. They were friendly and worked hard.
Callela joins with Pineda in an almost continuous town. The shopping was excellent and included many boutiques and shops selling curiosities. The local shopkeepers were friendly and prepared to haggle over a price. Most spoke English but appreciated me speaking Spanish. The beaches are kept very clean although the sand is rather coarse. The steeply shelving beach may not be suitable for poor swimmers.

My partner and I have just returned from this hotel After being moved from another horrible hotel at the beginning of our holiday.
Calella was a nice quite resort if you are looking for relaxation, The beach is not a tourist resort here and not really worth visiting. But there are two huge streets of shops with everything you could think of including English food, which you will need if you come to this hotel.
For a three star it wasn’t the worst we have seen and as many have said already, it is rather on the large scale.
Lifts are very slow although there are actually four lifts here if you look.
The pools were reasonably good but not for adults as children are unsupervised and cause chaos all day every day.
There is no adult entertainment what so ever unless you like 60s and 70s line dancing or ballroom dancing, although you will have to get past all the kids first.
The bar staff I found to be very friendly although severely short staffed and under pressure due to having to run around after people kids all day as you very rarely seen parents taking control.
The food is not worth consumption at all if you were to choose this hotel or resort you are better advised to eat out.
The drinks are not good at all and are of foreign origin and not nearly as strong as you may hope for, but if you have not eaten due to the poor food here will get you merry.
This is mainly a kids resort without adults in other wards just a huge crèche don’t expect to get to sleep until at least 0400hrs and prepare to be woken again at 0630hrs by the same people.
The cleaning staff are very good here and are friendly and will help you at all times, it is just unfortunate that they don’t run the hotel instead of the hill top group.
If you are all inclusive you will receive a card which will let you go to any of the other hotels in the chain for nothing, some of the four stars are very spectacular and do offer a slightly better choice but you will more or less see the same people as your own as every one is trying to escape the Olympic.
My choice is if you want a quiet break come to Calella and go self catering, don’t go all inclusive to the hotels there is a good reason they are so cheap!!!! Be warned.
Fly globespan are a good company and have rather good planes for an economy flight and well worth using again.
