not even a "one" star hotel

Jun 2011, disappointed 1

just returned from 11 days at the hotel and can confirm all the other reviews as correct, this has to be the worst hotel in spain.more like a youth hostel, bottles chairs and cans thrown off the balconies into the pool most nights. probably the reason for the bottles/cans being in the hotel in the first place are that this has to be the first virtually "alcohol free" all inclusive.

Looking at other reviews,Felt that they were abit harsh..
As a couple in our thirties with two kids aged 7 & 10
the Hotel was a good choice..Food was ok for an allinclusive stay, had alot worse in Benidorm,Turkey etc.
Kids loved the Pools and the Beach and Town just a short walk away. Would stay again!

  • Advice: Just relax and enjoy the sun and free stuff!!!

We booked a mystery hotel holiday and found out 4 days before we went that we would be staying here and the reviews scared the life out of us! but we figured that we hadn't spent much money on the holiday so we couldn't expect much from it. We were suprised to find that it was fine! the rooms were a fine size for two of us, the food was ok, nothing special but we ate something everytime we went in there, most of the staff were friendly and helpfull. The only problem we found was that you weren't allowed inflatables in the main pool! we are going back again at the end of the summer as for the price we paid it was perfect.

  • Advice: the nightlife is good and there are some lovely places in town

i went this week and got to be said its terrible, i went with the school, there were constant kids running up and down the corridor screaming, children were able to get served drink at a obvious younger age.
Some food is okay but alot of it is undercooked breakfast the eggs were not properly cooked and sausages were still raw inside.
security in the hotel is atrocious police had to be called about a fight in the corridor and its actually quite scary to know your down the corridor from it all.
The rooms- The bed sheats are not changed just made again for the full weal to much furniture for such a small room so its hard to walk about.
Overall i give the hotel a 4.

  • Advice: book a corridor not near any schools
  • Good For: City Breaks

Stay at HTop Olympic at your peril!
Through no fault of our own we ended up staying here for 2 weeks. This hotel/Youth Hostel should be rated 1 star
or should have been demolished years ago. There is a turnover of approx 1500 international students per week -up to 400-600 on any night! The horrendous noise and behaviour of these students is appalling. They overload the lifts and slam door frequently. I had to use earplugs most of the time during my stay. They are not adequately supervised by their tutors either inside the hotel or outside. Smoking dope, room hopping and drinking during the night hours is commonplace. Packs of students, male and female, roll in drunk and noisy
up to 5.00am as standard. The bar staff are mostly unpleasant and the cleaning staff are fighting an uphill battle to clean the awfully smelly and shoddily basic rooms. Some of our bedding had cigarette burns and holes in it. I had to request linen changes as they were not forthcoming except for the towels which were actually reasonably large, snow white and abundant.
There were 2 pools to the front of the building which were open and they were not cleaned while we were there. Objects were constantly being thrown in to the pools and they were just taken out with a net. Another guest actually saw boys peeing into the pool from their balcony. The coming and going of coaches is constant and can often number several at any one time, with their engines running. The provided food in the restaurant is very basic and low quality and often does not resemble anything edible at all. If we offered any constructive criticism whatsoever it was met with shrugged shoulders
by several hotel staff including the Manager, restaurant staff and chefs. You may as well bang your head on the wall. Serving implements dropped by accident by guests were handed to a chef who wiped them on a tissue and put them back on the buffet plate. Waitresses spent most of their time scraping the unwanted slop into huge bags while used crockery and cutlery piled up on the tables.
The courtesy bus only runs from June to October and the facility to use the other HTop hotels is largely non-existent. They do give you a card telling you when your meals and drinks eligibility ends but it is woefully early for some guests. The internet stations are not turned on until 10.00 am, again no explanation. No outside line can be achieved from the telephone in the guest rooms - only other rooms and reception can be contacted. I was told that the luggage room would be locked at 10.00 am for security but it was still open while we waited a few hours to leave so we kept our luggage with us in the lounge. The only unsmiling help we received was from the Reception staff and they acually faxed 2 documents for me, one of which was a letter of complaint to the travel agent. None of my remarks are exaggerated and I may have overlooked some so you decide whether you actually want to waste your hard-earned money staying here.

hotel from hell

Mar 2011, fee1

non existent entertainment. board advertised entertainment in the foyer which never took place
pool with waterslide and play area were closed
clean towels daily but floors were never brushed or mopped
shared our bathroom with a nest full of birds
spanish carnival took place over the weekend, which we were told by the staff is solely for the use of the spanish people. we were unable to obtain tea, coffee etc and the pool tables, air hockey tables and internet facilities were moved away to give more room for the carnival
the sister hotel pool can only be used once during your stay here. its very small only holding 15 max. guests from the calella palace have priority
cant use laundry facilities at calella palace (advertised that you can)

when we booked this holiday,we were lookin forward to a great all inclusive holiday......
reality, worst hotel , worst food, worst choice of snacks(stale cheese and ham sandwiches and a handful of crisps),bar stopped serving drinks at midnight, main pool was closed, small rooms, and miserable staff.
we were there for a week and ate out quite a few times because the food was so bad it all had no taste or was stale.Really glad went out of season because the hotel would never have coped to full capacity.
small cramped rooms that needed updating, very noisy corridors ,no bath mat.
this experience has put us off travelling to mainland spain again as the area we were in was like an English holiday resort in the seventies.

just returned today from calella where we stayed at this hotel and we had a good break. the hotel was clean, staff friendly but the entertainment was a bit poor. we booked with a company through the internet but the price you see is not all you get. the price does not include baggage.check-in or transfers.we had to get a taxi to the resort from the airport at the cost of 62 euros but online it tells you taxi's from 25-30.on return we got a bus from the resort to the airport for 8 euro's each.the timetable's are available at the trainstation also train travel to girona is available.the resort itself was very quiet with not a lot open. the food was ok sometimes a bit on the cold side but a good choice and the alcohol was not the best L&H vodka didn't even see it in the bargain supermarket!

We went in July 2010 for a family holiday, arrived at midnight and went straight to the room, it was just like a youth hostel, and very noisy, thin Walls, dirty sheets with cigarette holes in it, smelled really weird. At 3am the gang next door came back and woke us, heard every word, even them throwing up for the next hour. Went down to breakfast which was utter chaos, queues everywhere, no free tables, the one we found after 10 mins was dirty, food Luke warm. Spoke to other guests who also hated it there but could not afford to move. We moved that morning and upgraded to the 4 star H Top Amaika for an extra 200 euros, which was the best decision we ever made we could not top smiling after we moved, the Amaika was simply in a whole other league at least 3 stars above whatever the Olympic was which should be closed down as it was not fit for human habitation. Going back to Amaika in May 2011 and can't wait.

  • Advice: Calella in lovely, but stay at the Amaika

Holiday from Hell!!!!!!

Nov 2010, kebab

We have just returend last night, 4/11/10 and this was by far the worst hotel we have ever been to! There was 5 of us in total, and we wanted to come home on day 1. Only good thing was the maid, our room was clean but very smelly. She tried her best to keep it clean. The oldest one of the group 77years old fell and now has a fractured elbow and hip as a result of the bad state of the hotel. Staff were very unfriendly and even said to my grandson age 11, silly scottish children! Would never go back and would never recommend it to anyone. Calella is a lovely place but not this hotel, the calella palace really is a palace compared to this so pay extra and go there.

just got back from this hotel and everything you read on all the other reviews are correct.I am a single parent with 3 children working part time and from a council house in a housing estate so am well used to drunks and trouble makers walking round but this place was in a class of its own. i found the teenagers behaving ok it was more the older generation bout 50+ drinking from 10am onwards getting in such a state the bar men had to refuse service this was most nights. The food was permanently recycled ie sausage for breakfast became sausage stew at lunch time food always cold etc etc please please please believe the rest of the reviews and mine save ur money and go next door to the callela palace
