Oct 2007, Miss

We arrived at the hotel late at nite, it was nice and posh when we entered and I liked it, I didn't expect to av a picture taken but oh wel haha ....
Well on first nite as we was unpacking we got a phone call because we was to loud so that went out the window (a bit like a chair on our last day) if you look at the front bush you will see the chair haha! Back to the unpacking we decided to call it a nite unfortunately the guy next door had plotted revenge to snore louder than a fog horn! No joke that was not human .. haha
The next day was wonderful!! The weather was reali nice and the waiters and staff were very polite. The food was good on the first day and the snacks at nite were brilliant to take up to ya room. We had a brillaint view of the pool they all have very good views actualli, we looked at all the other hotels which were good and interesting and one of the days we planned to go on a coach to a further away hotel... it was late because it had crashed haha but on the way there it then agen crashed but no1 was injured and the driver was very polite about it and apologized, wasnt reali his fault ! He gave every 1 a sweet as well which was nice!
It was very warm and we went on the beach, the pools were cold but wat do ya expect. To cut things short its a good holiday to go on and I would go again I really enjoyed it! and the weather was nicer than I fought it would be. It was good going out of the hotels threw the day time to the sister hotels and looking at all different sized pools and other stuff... the beer gets you drunk really really easy so be careful!.....it was a very gud relaxing hoilday and I enjoyed it.

Oct 2007, Miss R Walton

Well... before I went I red all the reviews and was absoultly dreding going... I traveled with friends and family... arrived at Girona Airport jumped on transfer bus every thing absoultly fantastic, when we arrivd at the Hotel there was a big group of children playing & shouting in the road..so not a great start.
We walked into the reception and everyone was relly friendly... we ended up with a room on the top floor right at the end of the hotel so it wasnt that loud and didnt really hear much.
The food was what is to be expected really good choice, a bit cold but there is microwaves to warm it up... the drinks at meal times come in tiny glasses hardly a moth full. All the staff are really nice and the main bar staff seem to always be smiling and try to have a joke but cant quite understand.
The rooms were spotless I cudnt believe it Sunday morning when I opened my door to find cleaners there. The pools are not very warm at all I nearly hypo-ventilated when I got in but once the sun is on them there not bad at all.
There is 4 lifts you just have to know where to look for them, I would recommend when at reception look right and there is a set of stairs that lead down to the dining hall and also a set of stairs that lead up to some rooms, there is 2 lifts up the lil'set of stairs we always used them as not many people seemed to realise they were there.
The major problem I had was the entertainment... we always went acroos to the other hotel's as there entertainment was better, also we booked to go on the medievel night we was told to be out side for 7 as the coach was due at 7.15 we was still waiting at 7.45 and it was pretty cold at night and there was young children out there. When we went in to complain we discovered that the coach time had been changed to 8.15 and when we ask the reception staff why they had just left us out side they just stared at us blankly, so we wasn't very happy about that but when we got to the castle it was fantastic really good for the kids but a very late night.
Overall I actually really enjoyed it we had very good weather only 1 day cloudy and the hotel isn't as bad as everyone in these reviews make it out to be... after all your holiday is what you make it... enjoy if your going I know I really did :)

My friend and I have been back a week...
1 / 10
Oct 2007, Mrs E Hills

My friend and I have been back a week and I am still trying to get over it - I am 55 years old and well travelled, but I have never in my entire life been to a hotel like it and may I say I never want to repeat the experience.
We arrived to what can only be described as bedlam, the reception area was like Liverpool Street station in the rush hour.
I have never seen so many people or heard so much noise in all my life - I understand that we had at least 400 school children staying as they were doing a football competition, and may I add many times they practised in the hallways whilst we were trying to sleep - as people have said before the walls are thin so not much sleep was had, but I must add at this point the rooms were clean but not very big.
But back to bedlam - they stayed a further couple of days and I think they left on the Wednesday - but alas we thought the footballers were bad but they made way for the brits - and what can only be described as slobs - I had heard about these sort of people but never actually experienced them that close, and I hope I never do again.
I was ashamed to be British and I can see why the Spanish do not like us if this is what represents our country.
All they- all inclusive -were interested in was how much beer they could swill down their throats, they did not supervise their children, and there was not much for them to do.
We booked full board but I could only stand to go breakfast the food was that bad and then to mix with the other guests who can only be described as a load of pigs at feeding time, even the Germans stayed away, they were to scarred to mix with them, the noise alone was enough to deafen you.
We only booked at the last minute for this holiday thank goodness I would have been devastated had I have waited all year and then went there.
To be fair though, the Olympia is part of a group of hotels and I could not make out for the first few days why that hotel was so bad against the rest then I meet the brits and all fell into place. Well the other hotels were lovely and you can go to lunch or dinner at any one of them they even run a coach from the hotel - so we did manage to get some good food out of it.
The staff in the hotel - well they were very good and I feel very sorry for them to have to mix with such rabble and I told them so before I left - I shook the receptionist by the hand and wished her good luck - even though when I asked to be upgraded she said they were fully booked in all the other hotels - I did wish her luck and I would not do her job if you paid me treble.
If you come from certain parts of England and you don’t want to do anything more than drink larger by the pool this is the place for you - the rest of you stay away for your own sake.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Transfer fine as we got a taxi...
1 / 10
Oct 2007, Mrs S Sanderrson

Transfer fine as we got a taxi transfer no problems there.
Hotel could have been better, food ok but not always hot and sometimes what was there for lunch was there on an evening. Priority given to Spanish.
Can't complain about drinks but you will have to queue.
Staff some friendly and some not
If you plan on sleeping don't go here you will not get any sleep what so ever if it’s not the usual lager louts. It’s the Spanish who are very ignorant and very loud and don’t show any consideration for other hotel guests. We were lucky to get 3 hours sleep per night so glad I did not take kids on this short break.
You could complain as many times as you like but nothing was ever done about noise in early hours of morning. We would be woken in early hours by Spanish youths kicking our room doors then running away.
Overall don't bother pay a little more and have a nice holiday instead.

Oct 2007, Mrs C WILSON

What a laugh it’s been! The first day we was there bus after bus of oaps (yes that’s right oaps) turned up German ones at that, then it comes to meal time, its run for a table.
If you like pork or turkey all well and good but I like my food hot, there’s a microwave s you can warm it up, the soup I still don’t know it was. What meat was left at dinner time came back at tea time as a stew.
On our fourth day, 400 teenagers came not many carers with them what did come sat in the bar area drinking. The rooms was clean and tidy the walls was paper thin so you could hear everything in the next room and I mean everything.
There’s a lift but don’t count on it working. Kids disco last about half hour when it starts (8.45) only played 4 or 5 songs and they were old.
All I can say is don’t go there this hotel should be down graded.

Oct 2007, Ms B Edwards

The hotel was fine. It was 3* as described. The food was edible and plenty of it. The staff were polite, friendly and professional. Yes the rooms were small but they were very clean, and comfortable.
The problem I found was the amount of English who took full advantage of the unlimited alcohol from 10am to 12 midnight. They were drunk, vulgar and so rude to the staff at the hotel. I was ashamed to be British.
The staff had to put up with no end of abuse. And there were fights between the guests (all drink fuelled). This meant that all hours of the night the hotel was very, very noisy.
The upper floor was best as it reduced the amount of disturbance every night.

Well what can I say!
If you want a nice holiday do not go to the Olympic. We went for a week AI with my 7 year old son and mum and dad. The first night we got there late.
The staff are great and really friendly feel really sorry for them working here.
The rooms are clean very basic but you only sleep there so no big deal. In general the hotel was clean and tidy.
Food well what can I say we are not fussy eaters but hot food is nice. The breakfast was the only decent meal rest of the time we ate out even though we were AI as it was just unbearable in the dining room.
The food was cold most of the time although a fairly good choice. You are packed in like sardines round tiny tables with screaming kids and dysfunctional British families.
The entertainment left a lot to be desired lap dancing adults drunk taking their clothes off. If you like sewer dwellers then go here.
Young lads drunk throwing up in the lift etc nearly every night. Families screaming and fighting. Brits showing their true colours. It made me ashamed to be British. Some were drunk by 2.00pm, 16 year olds drunk and fighting and slobs screaming and swearing at their kids.
I know it’s not the hotels fault but there wasn't anything done about it. If you like pond life then this is where you want to go.
I will never go back and it ruined a week away would have rather had been at work. My seven year old was amazed by the behaviour from the other children who are left to run riot pulling curtains down, hitting each other with pool stick etc.
Once again if you want a good holiday DONT GO HERE unless you want to join the traditional British slobs.

Oct 2007, Mrs A Uzzell

Me and my new husband went to the Olympic hotel for our honeymoon. We got there at 11.30am and the staff were very friendly. Our room was perfect for the amount of time you are in it, you’re only in there to sleep. The walls are thin but what do you expect for the money.
The food was great, there is so much choice, if you want hot food you have to be first down there, all the waiters were friendly.
The entertainment is rubbish. The drinks are brill, but you have to wait up to 15 minutes to be served, there was only 2 waiters behind the bar.
Hoping to go this year at Christmas.

Sep 2007, Mr A Hogg

Paid for shuttle bus that didn’t turn up at airport. We were a party of 6 and had to get 2 separate taxis to hotel. Dropped off at wrong hotel and had to be taken to the Hotel Paradiz where we had booked only to be told that we had been transferred to the Hotel Olympic.
Top floor room - it smelt all week of dirty drains. Food disgusting and cold. Queuing up for drinks all the time as you could only have 2 per card and there was 6 in our party.
No shuttle bus to take us back to airport either. A disaster from start to finish - don’t go there.

Sep 2007, Miss D Butler

This is an excellent place to stay, it is a 3 star and I would advise anyone to go here. I am definitely going to return.
Food was basic but for on holiday that’s what you want, not all the fuss. There were always 3-4 types of meat on an evening and plenty of choice.
Pools were excellent and staff were on always there to help. A star for me.
Just returned today and wanted to do it some justice.

My best friend and I got a last...
9 / 10
Sep 2007, Miss T Stapleton

My best friend and I got a last minute deal to the Olympic Hotel in Calella for 300 quid each, all inclusive. We read the reviews before we decided to go there, and to be honest that is the exact reason why we went. We wanted a random funny 'student' type holiday, and that’s exactly what we got and much much more!
The food wasn’t the best but what can you expect for what we paid. The staff were friendly and helpful and always had a bit of a laugh with us. The walls of the hotel were extremely thin and can be a bit annoying listening to the cleaners slamming the doors when you are trying to sleep off a hangover.
The entertainment was just typical of this hotel, in fact it was probably funnier watching the old Spanish women dancing to the disco than anything provided by the hotel.
We went into town, and the only bars we went to were: Polymesia, Alcatraz, and Turisme 35 bar, purely because that we were having so much fun there. Again the bar staff were very friendly and we had the time of our life here. We met some fab people in Calella, and the holiday is really what you make of it yourselves.
I wouldn’t recommend this hotel for a family holiday, as it’s just too noisy and not a lot to do.
However, we had the time of our life in Calella, and the resort is gorgeous with a lovely beach.

Aug 2007, Mrs CJ Buchanan

Firstly I must say the old cliche you get what you pay for. If you expect 5 star don't go to the Olympic, 3 star it is.
My husband, 2 children 7 and 9 and my 26 year old sister visited the Olympic for a week in peak season in August and had a fab time, I will give you a honest review of all aspects if I can.
Transfers.
we booked a coach which collected us from Gerona airport and was on time and probably was a about a 45-50 min journey, straight to our hotel and not around the houses.
Booking in.
We arrived at around midnight we were seen straight away by a nice Spanish man who was very busy but tried his hardest to speak English although we couldn't speak a word of Spanish. We had our photos taken for our all inclusive cards and went to our rooms. We were meant to have adjoining rooms but the travel agent cocked that up not the hotel. We got to our rooms and they were one bed short so we went to reception and within 5 mins another bed was put in and all was fine. I have to say my husband and I were put on the 7th floor and were next to some very loud Turkish lads and they kept us awake, but the next day we asked to move rooms and were moved to the 4th floor next to my sister and it was fine. Noise is not the hotels fault just some inconsiderate people.
Rooms.
Very clean, basic but functional. A little on the small side but we coped; you only have to sleep in them. The maids came in every day to wash the floor, make the beds and give you clean towels, these poor girls have a huge job but still manage to be pleasent. The balcony was lovely. We had many a drink in the evenings overlooking the pool ,you can take your drinks from the bar to your room.
Staff.
Bloody work hard! Maids were lovely always smiling, bar staff very busy but polite and we didn't even bother to speak Spanish to them. At the end of the day why do we expect them to speak English they are Spanish and we are visiting their country!
Bar
Huge bar, huge measures probably would stick to things like vodka, archers and the beer is fine. Not in pint glasses but refreshing all the same. They make cocktails for the kids and they loved going up to get their drinks! We timed it the longest we queued for during the busiest week was 15 mins., which is what you would wait if you went out to a busy bar. All I would say on a negative note was stay away from the white wine - a bit dire but I am a wine snob! Lemonade fine fizzy and wet, coke was draft coke so don't expect the real thing.
Food
Loads of it and presented well. Even the fussiest of eaters could find something always salad, bread , cheese and ham. My 9 year old is really fussy and she didn't starve. It does get busy but don't panic there is always loads of food and you will get a seat just become more Spanish and laid back and laugh at all the people acting like they have never been fed! Breakfast is fine, you can have toast or croissants or they do sausage, eggs, beans etc. They love beans! Its all fine, probably not the way you would cook it in England but perfectly edible. Tea, coffee and juice all avaliable.
Pools
Lovely, kids were in them the whole time. The larger pool round the back has a pool bar so you literally have to climb off your lounger get a couple of beers and lie back down, whats to complain about! The pools around the front are quieter we used to start off in the big pool and follow the sun round to the small pools in the afternoon. The kids can have free icecream from the pool bar if you are AI so they are happy.
Entertainment
Kids club was fine. My two did finger painting and badge making and had a lovely time, the staff were lovely. The entertainment in the evening was funny! Spanish people trying to sing in English you have to admire them, the cabaret was slightly better if you are looking for a Royal Variety performance you will be a little dissapointed!
If you are AI go to the Medieval night, really fab. Free wine not the best but after a couple who cares! You watch your knight battle it out; it's very entertaining and you get a whole chicken to eat with your fingers - kids loved tha. After your meal and the jousting you go downstairs to a disco (Spanish Music) but hey you can still dance and then watch Flamincoe or Flamingoe dancers as my youngest called them. We had a fab time.
Out and about
To be honest we only visited Callella it has everything you need, crazy golf, bowling and loads of shops. The beach is lovely sea a little to viscious to let my kids swim in it but very pretty. Catch the little train down town it will take you were you want to go and the kids love it.
Gringoe Joes by the Olympic is great if you want some English food the staff are lovely, but don't expect a quick meal, service a little slow.
Overall
Just what we needed go with a open mind, don't take any notice of all the negative reviews your holiday is what you make it. Enjoy we wish we were back there.
A bit of advice - if like us you just want to sit around the pool most of your holiday take it in turns with your party to get one person up each day about 7.50 am to put towels on your sun loungers, its worth it because they do get busy.Once you have reserved your loungers go back to bed. ENJOY!
