I am 15 and i have just come back from spain with my friend who is also 15 and her sister, we had a lovely time. The hotel is clean and the food is good but it could be better. But you can also use the other hotel that is only up the road where they do have entertainment on every night. but it is a good place to stay.

Holiday from Hell
Just returned from spending a week in Hotel Esplai ( half board ), from 2nd to 9th June 2008. Hotel full of German students who were noisy all day and night shouting, banging peoples doors and ringing room phones in the middle of the night. The food was terrible and we ended up going out for meals. We complained to reception regarding the noise and were told that numerous complaints had been made and passed to higher management, however this did not solve the problem. We met other people who were as annoyed as we were at this hotel known to locals as "the hotel from hell". Well that says it all. I am in the process of writing a letter of complaint to flyglobespan who operated the holiday. Maybe they will look into the matter before more people are given a holiday from hell! JT Inverclyde.
Not the best holiday
My husband and i booked a weekend break for the bank holiday. We are a young couple and are well up for a laugh and a good drink but this was far from what we expected. When we arrived it was full of young germans shouting very loud, knocking on peoples doors and being general pains. The hotel was very clean and the food was average. The pool area also is clean but the youngsters just have no respect for things.
Really Bad
This hotel is probably the worst I have ever stayed in!!!We booked a weeks holiday in what was advertised as "suitable for couples and families" .On arrival we we met with hoards of german students blocking the entrance stairs, and equally filling up the hotel reception...the noise was horrendous.Little did we know this was what we were to expect for the next 7 days!!They had no thought for anyone else but themselves.Being all enclusive they got drink served all day so by 4am when they returned from the discos they had not a thought for those in the hotel sleeping!!in tha day we suffered megaphones, plastic cups, plates strewn around the pool,at night it was towels ,cups ,bottles etc thrown over the balconies.Any complaint fell on deaf ears .Don't get me wrong the hotel is actually nice ,clean and the food not bad but having to wait outside and be ushered into a dining room with groups of teenagers ,unable to get a drink with your meal unless all inclusive ,your plates cleared as soon as you were finished ,and being served Jelly for sweet was too much to face by night 4!!! This is a shocking way to run a hotel and my advise is to stay well away!!
holiday from hell
This is the WORST holiday we have ever stayed in. We fancied a long weekend and booked the Esplai through Globespan who rated it as an ideal family hotel.Arriving at 11 at night, we were greeted by hordes of drunken teenagers swarming all over the place. The steps up to the hotel were covered in beer and we could hardly get through the crowds to the reception. When the bar closed at 12, they all went off to the discos only to return about three am shouting and singing and making a horrendous noise which went on until daylight. Our room overlooked the back of the hotel and all you could see was towels and beer glasses which had been thrown from the balconies.I couldn't tell you what the food was like as we never got near the restaurant for queues and had to eat down town despite being half board.I got fed up complaining to the reception as all I was told was that my complaint would be passed on to the manager but nothing was done.If you are over thirty or have a young family,STAY AWAY FROM THE HOTEL ESPLAI.
worst holliday ever
my wife and i have just been tranfered to the sister hotel Bon Repos, just arrived was the german students,at 2 in the morning they where throwing bottles over the balcony spitting at passers by,and using megaphones to call each other.Security asked them to stop 3 times but they just told them to [--] off.12 couples where down at 3 am to complain about the noise and nothing was done.next morning we all demanded to see the manager, all he said that 3 weeks of the year it was allways the same with the german students,we all moved hotels. Please boycott this hotel in may
Really nice hotel,would go again
Itravelled with ferris holidays, really nice coach company, very cheap too travel with. 3 of us stayed at the esplai, staff was really helpful, food ok,it is an easy hotel to find, bars nearby very friendly, cafes very friendly. going with ferrises again at christmas, twice next year
Value for money
I booked this hotel through Travel Republic on the net. Myself and my sister stayed here for 3 night for a short break. The hotel is very nice for the price we paid. It is clean and nicely decorated. The food is not excellent but there are plenty of restaurants around the hotel. Also the snack bar does pizza, burgers and chips if all else fails. The rooms were cleaned daily with fresh towels. The resort itself is quite quiet but nice restaurants and bars. We were looking for a nice relaxing sunny break, this is what we got. If you are after a boozy stag/hen week then i'd suggest Lloret de mar. Just one thing, the walls are quite thin so you might want to take ear plugs. We heard our neighbours making love everyday at 5pm!
Cheap and Cheerful!
Me and my girlfriend visited the hotel esplai in september and found the hotel to be very pleasent and we had an enjoyable holiday. Rooms- We had a twin room which was spacious and the bathroom was basic but very clean, the maids came every day without fail and cleaned the rooms to a good standard. For some strange reason they stuck a third bed in our room on our third day which we found strange but it made little difference to the room. Also the 'satelite' tv consisted of 30 channels non of which were english. The walls are also quite thin and we could here a man next door snoring every night, slightly annoying but made no difference to holiday for us but might do for younger family with children. All inclusive- Drink was from 10.00 till 23.30 and was very good, all regular brands such as pepsi sprite etc. Had a wide selection of spirits and had one beer. Bar men were generally fine but seemed abit mardy and annoyed we were all inclusive and did not have to pay. Food- Breakfast 08.00-09.30- Made pancakes and omelletes which were very nice. Had continental style breakfast mainly with cereal. Breafast was very nice. Lunch- 12.45-14.00- Lunch was not so good. As the hotel catered mainly for half board they seemed to put little effort into lunch and there was very little choice. Tea- 19.00-21.30- We thought that food started off well with a wide range of food such as pasta, alot of fish and meat. It did become very repetitive and we found the standard dipped as the week carried progressed. terrible if you are a vegetarian as all they have is salad. Snack bar was very nice gave a choice of things such as hot dogs, chips, burgers and toasties. we tended to eat here as it was always good food, but did get abit boring after a week Pool area was abit small for the amount of guests and the pool itself was lacking in size. The entertainment at the hotel was not very good. Bingo we surprisingly enjoyed but after that there was little we would have watched. The karoke was quite funny but everything else was not very well organised and poor quality. The location of the hotel is brilliant. right near the beach, shops and the main nightlife which was only 5 minutes walk to all. Callela is a lovely place and we had great weather and a very nice holiday. We would recommend to families and people above 30 as that seemed to be the main occupance of callela. Nightlife not brilliant for big group of young people. Nice for couples like us :)
Average
8 of us (girls in our mid 20's) stayed at the Hotel Esplai in August 2006. We got a cheap last minute deal All Inclusive. We had two rooms with 4 sleeping in each. These rooms were clearly supposed to be for 2 people but they decided to put another 2 beds in there which made it very cosy! There was Air Conditioning in our rooms, which was a little noisey but you got over it as with there been 4 of us in 1 room you can imagine it was a little warm! The food i have to say wasn't great, the 1st couple of days we thought it was ok, however they seemed to like battering all food for breakfast, dinner and tea!! By day 6 the thought of any more battered food made me feel sick! We had 2 vegetarians travelling with us, all they ate for the wk was salad and potatoes there were no vegetarian dishes as such. The pool was ok, you had to put a towel down at about 8am or you wouldn't get a bed for the rest of the day! there were a lot of families staying at this hotel and the pool isn't massive so you couldn't just chill on your Lilo as the kids generally tried to throw you off it! If i'm honest i won't be staying here again, the walls are made of paper and it was too crampt round the pool. The beach is about a 10-15 minute walk away which is ok, and the train station is about 20 min walk away, we visited Barcelona for the day on the train which i would highly recommmend. The evening entertainment was very much geared for children which is ok if you have children.
What was I thinking!! Read this!!
DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!!!! I BEG YOU. YOU WILL REGRET IT. READ ON TO FIND OUT WHY This is the worst place I have ever been to. I know the guys who work on Holidays from Hell and they are preparing a trip next summer.....and this is no lie I booked this hotel with about 3 days left before my (and my partners) departure. When I looked at the hotel on the website and checked it out on tripadvisor.co.uk it all appeared to be a good quality hotel. This is not the case!!!! Remember, don't judge a book by its cover!! When we arrived at the hotel it was lovely and clean in appearence. When we went up to our room, it was basic and clean. THE ILLUSION STOPPED THERE!! After one meal from the All-Inclusive package deal, we thought 'Its basic and it fills a hole'........that was the best it got. The food was rubbery and dull and this never changed. We eventually ended up spending a lot of money on going out for meals. Then there was the staff. One lady was lovely and tried to help constantly, but the others were all 'sheep' hiding in the shadows of there so-called boss. The BOSS was a woman who hasn't got a clue how to run a hotel as all she cared about was getting customers out of her face. This is really the lemon next to the pie. On the first night I was awoken by my 3 month pregnant partner at 3a.m. Next door to us we heard a huge amount of noise from a stereo system and I am talking SERIOUS noise. As they continued through til 4a.m. we felt that enough was enough and we went downstairs to speak to the staff about the inconsiderate Dutch lads next door. The guy came up and told them to be quiet. Did it work? Of course not!! It got worse as they were steadily joined by 10 other people in their room and continued to make serious noise. I then got up (and remember this is DAY 1!!!!) and challenged our neighbours. They were rude and aggresive and obviously took no notice of what had been said to them (but who would with someone just knocking on the door and putting their finger to their mouth and going Ssshhh then having the door slammed back in their face) So in the morning after a whopping 3 hours sleep we went downstairs and complained. We spoke to the only member of staff who wanted to do something positive. She spoke to the Dutch group and took their stereo away (which turned out to be the worst thing to happen!!) She also warned them that if this happened again then they would be thrown out of the hotel. Next night..........SAME AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!! What did the BOSS do .........Nothing!! We had the next week being abused and alienated by this group. I mean what do you do as a couple (one of them pregnant) against 15-20 Dutch lads.....not alot apart from learn Dutch swear words. To just rub that bit of salt in the wound on the second day of complaint, some of the lads were firing a BB gun down towards the pool area from their balcony AT THE KIDS. We were not the only people to complain. A lot of familes were complaining about the filth in the pool and about the gun being shot and what did Boss lady do!!! You guessed it ........NOTHING. She said that they were leaving soon so there was nothing she could do. Good to know that have the support of the staff then!!! I had warned the BOSS lady that she was going to cause more problems for herself if she didn't get rid of them now, but she didn't and eventually they did go (just hours before they were due to leave anyway....I mean what's the point) Awful.....never again and if you end up going yourself then don't say I didn't warn you
