I feel I have to defend The Esplai! To be fair I haven’t been for a couple of years so I can’t comment on the standard now, but when I went it was the best holiday ever!

The Hotel Esplai looks imposing from the outside. It is situated at the top end of Calella, across a very busy main road (the N11). There are some shops and supermarkets nearby, selling the usual tourist items, newspapers and groceries.
