Not 4 star accommodation
3 / 10
Feb 2010, pamela

I have just returned from a self catering holiday at Oasis Papagayo. The accommodation is certainly not 4 star. I have been told the hotel gets its 4 star from Thomsons because of the entertainment for children, which is no good to me because my child is now 34 and I am looking for a nice place to stay. I will definately go back to Correlejo the beaches are beautiful, and the restaurants are plentiful with a wide selection of food to choose from.

Overall we had a fantastic holiday, we only had a week here, but wish we'd have booked 2. We were travelling as a family of 3, me and my partner and our child who's almost 3.
Its a short journey from the airport to the hotel, and the scenery on the way is fantastic. On arrival we were given a key and directed to our apartment (in daylight this wasnt to bad, however, in darkness it would have been a total nightmare!) .DO NOT BUY FROM THE SUPERMARKET NEXT TO THE HOTEL........ VERY VERY EXPENSIVE!
The apartment was extremely spacious, and did us for what we needed, it could have been a tad cleaner, but nothing abit of dettol didnt sort out!
We were self catering- however we upgraded to all in for the last 3 days of our stay, this cost 30 euros pp per day for me and my partner, and our daughter was free. It was well worth it as its a very expensive area to eat out in!! For 3 main meals and 3 soft drinks, we were roughly doing 40 euros per night, and thats just in the evenings! So if we returned we would do so on an all in basis. The food was fine, and there was a good selection.
Would definately reccomend Tiffanys, we ate there alot , the food was lovely, and the service was great!
The pools were fab, especially for the kids as the main pool, is roped off as it gets deeper, our daughter spent a week in the pool and thouroughly enjoyed it!!
Would reccomend a walk down to the harbour, we ate there one evening and it was lovely!
Entertainment was ok in the evenings, seen better, but it was a giggle at times, and the mini disco was thoroughly enjoyed by our little one.
Will definately return 1 day, wellworth a trip.

  • Advice: Well worth a trip!
  • Activities: Tiffany's, the harbour

Having just got back from here I have a lovely tan and had a very enjoyable holiday. The hotel is bout 30mins drive from the airport passing through the beautiful sand dunes. The hotel is lovely we were all inclusive and had a great time and would love to return. The rooms are beautiful and above average, very clean and spacious. The only improvement could be air conditioning but once the windows are open the rooms soon cool down.
The food was nice buffet style with a good selection for breakfast, fruit, fry ups, pancakes and cereals. The dinner was a pool side buffet which wasnt too bad but was the same choice everyday, burgers, chips, pizza, salad, hotdogs, chicken nuggets. The evening buffet was good and a chef prepared meat whilst you waited. There was also a restraunt which ran themed nites such as indian chinese spanish and mexican which was very nice.
The entertainment was excellent if you had children as the reps entertained them al day and night. There was a creche, play ground, 3 adult swiming pools and 3 childrens pools. The top end is were the entertainment happens and the bottom is relaxing and quiet with a jacquzi tub.
The slow boat chinese is brilliant as is tiffanys cafe. We visited both even though all inclusive and would deffinetly recomend these places to go. The trading post pub and caspers bar are also enjoyable.
Overall this hotel was brilliant a short walk to the sand dunes and beach with the market and water park just across the road. I would recomend this hotel as i was a little worried reading other peoples reviews. However it was brilliant and i may return in the future.

  • Advice: Ignore the bad reviews you will have an excellent time
  • Activities: Tiffanys, slow boat chinese, trading post pub and caspers bar.

I have just returned from Oasis Papagayo after spending 2 weeks there with my children ages 10 & 7. After reading others reviews, I was a bit apprehensious, however, we had a fantastic time. The rooms were lovely and clean, the maids were helpful & friendly, the complex was huge and the reps and entertainement staff were brilliant.
If like me you need a break then this is the place to go, there is something for the kids morning, noon and night.
The only thing I would say is that my kids didn't like the saltwater pools and that is where all the entertainment is based, but after they got used to it they were ok.
It is very expensive there, if you can, go to the hyperdino, it's only around 3-4 euros in a taxi and you will save loads.
I only ate in a couple of resteraunts that were recommended to me, Tiffany's (oh and the bakers next door is reasonable and food was gorgeous, think it's called dolche leche) and a chinese downtown called slow boat wok, at the end of the white shop, blanco something, all clothes are white. Food and choice was amazing.
I am planning to go back ASAP. Sunny Sarah, nutty Nat, jazzy James, JL, courtney, Kirsty Kool, and the others are truly wonderful, they really made our holiday.
Go, you won't regret it!

  • Advice: Canary sun with refreshing winds.
  • Activities: Beaches gorgeous, waterpark great but a ripoff, take your own food, 6.80 euros for hot dog & fries,

We (myself, partner & 4 yr old twins) have just returned from 2 week holiday. Oasis Papagayo is spacious and has 5 pools plus a jacuzzi. 3 of the pools are salt water and have entertainment all day, the other 2 are alot quieter and have a hidden jacuzzi surrounded by palm trees. Sounds ideal? There are alot of uneven tiles around the pool - accident waiting to happen - and the small mosaic tiles are easily picked off the bottom of the paddling pool, which alot of children were doing, again creating rough and sharp edges to cut little ones feet. The apartments are quite spacious and relatively clean but the maid service was not good - towels just dumped on lounge table (when they were changed) and bed linen only changed once a week. When you are in a country with 46 degrees of heat (not that i'm complaining about that) with no air conditioning in your apartment, the linen could be changed a little more regular. Also you can hear far too much noise from neighbouring apartments, furniture being moved, general talking and more personal things!! Some upstairs apartments have a balcony which is open to a steep stairway, so if you have little ones ask if you can change. The reception staff are very unhelpful, every request we had they shrugged their shoulders and couldnt help except they did allow us to keep the room on so very grateful for that. The location of the complex is a good walk into town which is stated in the brochures but i would estimate a 25 minute walk into town rather than whats stated in the brochures. You can get a taxi back on weekdays before 10pm for 2 euros 40 or on a Sunday 3 euros 15 depending on driver. We heard alot of stories from local english tourist and residents of crime and corruption and 2 prices within the resort - one for the locals and 1 for the English tourists. Also beware of the lack of security on your bedroom windows - we questioned the poor locks on windows on arrival and on the last evening got promptly broken into and £600 worth of goods stolen!!!
Correlejo itself is not our cup of tea. No where particularly nice to eat, and only one restaurant with a half decent view. Whether we have been spoilt by the beauty of other countries but we were no impresses at all by the landscape and standards of the restaurants. We questioned the handful of people we met that raved about the resort whether they had actually been anywhere else in the world???
There are alot of establishments boarded up and far too many blackpool type souvenir shops and chinese restaurants. We counted 6 in all in this small resort.
If you have laready booked make the most of it like we did, because we did have a lovely time together and I advise eating at Pirates, Waikiki Beach and El Torro Rosso restaurant. Avoid at all costs the Taj Mahal indian - i couldn't face eating the food at all, it was quite embarrassing explaining why not.
If you haven't already booked think long and hard. We are not complainers and have never written a reveiw (either good or bad) before but really felt I needed to.
Plus side Thomson kids club reps very very good and our kids fell in love with them. Also Helen is very approachable and understanding (Rep within the hotel).

we went to these stunning apartments in may the staff were really friendly and helpful,
we went on a family holiday with our 2 children aged 3 and 1, i was apprehensive as to what to expect.
the thompson family club extra was brilliant at night in the club bar, there were also several activity's and quiz's going on throughout the day. you did not have to take part as staff were not pushy.
There were 5 pools but were all very cold. 2 of them were for children it was very safe and really clean.
we never ate at the onsite restaurant as the reps told us it was not up to a good standard, we did however have a pizza from the bar and it was absolutely lovely.
the only downside i had was that the floors were never cleaned and me and my husband ended up doing it with baby wipes. towels and bedding chaged every other day.
the only other downside was there was rarely hot water which didnt go down to well with the children.
The best resturant we found was tiffany's about 5 minute walk from oasis papagayo, turn left through the car park and its in front of you, the best food we found all english and quite reasonable prices.
the staff were very friendly and i was sad to leave them.
i found that fuerteventura was very expensive a 2L bottle of water was early £2.20 some things were very over priced. i would advise you to take plenty of money. overall a fantastic family holiday i would definately go again.

Great Winter Sun Holiday

We have just returned from a great week in Corralejo. We were lucky to arrive on Carnival week which takes place every March. Entertainment included an excellent parade, lasting 3 hours from start to finish and a fire work display, after the ceremonial burning of the sardine on the beach. The atmosphere in the town was buzzing.
We found the Oasis Papagayo apartments a good base for our holiday, with only a short taxi ride of 20 minute walk into the centre of the town. The rooms had a large amount of damp on the walls but this looked worse than it actually was. The walls themselves were dry and the old damp did not cause any problems for our family. I would say that the rooms were not the cleanest that we had ever seen, but a quick wipe around with the anti-bacterial wipes we packed soon sorted that. If you stay here, take a few tea towels as the one supplied has seen better days. The rooms were cleaned on a regular basis and the towels were changed twice during our week stay. If you need anything the reception staff are very willing to oblige. Pools really nice and clean but extremely cold!
We did not have any meals at the hotel but we understand from other guests that this was probably for the best as not very inspiring! We would recommend that you give the 'Vistalobos' Spanish restaurant in the harbour area of the town (just by the tiny sandy beach area)a visit. It provided us with the cheapest and the tastiest meals of the holiday, with a 2 course meal and drink from the set menu only costing 10 Euros per person (very cheap in comparison to other places). The Sea Bass with Mojo sauce and Canarian potatoes was gorgeous!
If you fancy a good home cooked meal (English style) then visit Gibsons - the restaurant is very clean and the food is good, but expect to pay far more than Vistalobos. Restaurant is tucked away down a side street so a taxi is probably a good idea. Steak house at Casa De La Carne seems to come recommended by people but we found the food average and would not go back in a rush. If you want a good Indian meal the Bombay Masala in the Old Town (in music square) is great value and very tasty.
If you want a quiet beach to hide away at, take the Number 8 Bus from just outside the Oasis Papagayo hotel and head for El Cotillo. The beaches are gorgeous and worth a visit. Watch out for the Nudists though if you don't want to shock the kids! We also took the glass bottom boat to Lobos for a quiet break on the beautiful beach, overlooking Corralejo from across the water. Nice trip but no shade from the sun.
We would love to go back to this resort sometime in the future, in fact we were gutted to leave after only one week. Our advise would be to take lots of spending money as very expensive but a great place to visit.

My review!

The setting for these apartments is beautiful. On an island as baren as Fuerteventura they truely are an Oasis!!! The rooms are fairly spacious and cleaned 5 days a week. We had a decent amount of damp in our room but that didn't bother us too much. I found all the staff (both Thomson and Hotel) to be very friendly and helpful. Reception will happily book you a taxi (around 3 euros in to town and 5 to the sand dunes at Riu Oliva). The Thomson kids club was great - and free! You only had to pay 3euros if you wanted the evening creche (6-8pm 3 days a week).
Don't see what all the rave is about Tiffany's. The woman was pretty rude to us and the food was average. The only good thing was that it was cheap lol. Theres a great choice of food at "The Plaza". Its a group of restaurants in the centre of town inc Chinese, Indian, Mexican and a steakhouse that all operate together. So if you want a chinese but your OH wants a curry its no problem! The set menu at the Chinese is great value for money and the hot desserts at the Mexican are to die for!! If you want a more authentic meal then try the Canarian restaurant on the street opposite the Brassimar. I can't remember what it was called but it opens at 1pm and has large green chalkboards around the outside. The food is wonderful and so cheap. Between 3 of us we had about 6 dishes (including Canarian potatoes with red Mojo - lush!!!), 2 rounds of drinks and it only came to 30 euros.
The aminal experiance at the Baku Park was great. It cost us 30 euros (2 adults and a 3yr old) and you get a return visit for free. Also as there is no restaurant they give you a wrist band so you can leave the park and return later. There's a few animal shows as well as the chance to swim with (small) sharks and sealions. Sadly the water park was closed but that looked pretty good.

Hidden Extra's

Jan 2009, sjl

The resort is nice but their is not much open and is expensive so i would only recomend a week. The rooms are nice but cold in the winter as they have no heating and if you take children the tv in your room costs 6 Euros per day,We booked with thompsons soley down to having a Kids club but did not inform us that it costs 3 Euros per time and we have 3 children so a total cost of 126 Euro's for the 2 weeks that we were their plus the tv we had to pay a total of 210 Euro's thats is approx £200.00 !!.
If you choose to go selfcatering you need to ask for hypo dino in the town center as the supermarket next to this resort is expensive....1 Loaf of bread 4.20 Euro, mars bar 1.60 Euro,Baked beans 1.50 Euro,Ham 2.50 Euro.....
If you go into the ClubBar they have happy hour where the price of a pint is 3.20 Euro each but between 5.30 and 7.30 they have happy hour and it's buy 1 get 1 free so i would buy 4 pints at 7.30 and recive 8 for myself and the wife to last us until 11.00 when it closes.
If you require the cheapest and as i found the best food on the island you must go to tiffany's.You can find it simply and they also do takaways. If you walk out of the reception and turn right walk across the carpark approx 300yrds and it's facing you this is where we lived for the last 4 days (they say you find the best places last)
Hope this helps but i would not be revisiting !!!!

Great in January

Jan 2009, pjo77

There'd been delays at the airport - no stairs for thirty minutes to disembark and hold-ups with the baggage so we were very tired when we arrived at 10 pm at Oasis Papagaya. The Reception area seemed dark and it was a long long trek along unlit paths through the site to find our apartment. We hoped we'd like it better in the morning....
We did!
In January the complex was ideal for a relaxing holiday particularly when we heard of the temperatures back in England. The apartment was cold at night. We needed the blankets and the beds are hard - as someone else has mentioned in another review, I woke each morning with a backache. The room was cleaned every other day and we were given new towels in the bathroom but the teatowel had to last all week.
After venturing in a couple of times, we avoided the Club Bar where parents allowed their children to race around. We walked to the beach area each evening past all the restaurant touts. It was on the final evening that we found, for us, the best place to eat and be entertained - the Rock Cafe. The band was brilliant and our meals were delicious and reasonably priced at 6.90 euros each!
The holiday rep quoted 40 euros per day for car hire so we opted for a slightly bashed car from a car rental shop for 25 euros and it did us proud. We hired it for just one day enjoying the spectacular mountain scenery and tiny villages in the centre of Fuerventura before heading for the amazing dunes.
The rest of the week we spent on the resort's beaches. The walk to the main area with cafes took 30 minutes. The walk to the nature reserve beaches took 45 minutes. There's lots to watch from the shelter of little stone circles. The kite surfers are particularly daring. One nudist had taken residence in one of the circles for the week and emerged every hour to run into the sea then along the beach before disappearing again into his shelter. He certainly took some people by surprise.
We would recommend this holiday during the winter. My husband is already planning a return next year but we don't think we would appreciate it so much in the hotter, busier months.

Bring a good book!

We went Thursday to Thursday.Taxi from airport costs £40 each way for a 30 to 40 minute drive. The appartment was spacious and kept clean and very satisfactory. The hire for the 20" TV with 30 channels ( mostly foriegn) was 30 euros for the week or 6 euros a day.We never tried the food in the complex as we decieded to go s/c.A small bottle of water from the pool bar was 2 euros, a pint of revolting beer casting 5 euros from the main club bar.The children seemed to be looked after with activities by the staff however the entertainment in the main club bar was either non existant, minimal or rubbish ie. "Brazillian Dancers" - started show at 22.00 - finished at 22.18 and were rubbish to say the least. However the complex had an instant cure for a hangover(i don`t think their drink could give you a hangover)just take a plunge into the main pool-ice cold on even the hottest day!A walk down the main street to the town centre mean`t running the gauntlet of mainly english people offering you free shots etc to go in their bars or restaurants to be ripped off with the food and drink prices.Example - on the beach a snack bar with a few tables charged for 2 plain burgers with fries & 2 soft drinks over 18 euros.Really all in all a weekenk would be more than enough to cover everything the complex and the town had to offer-would not go back there if it was free.

  • Advice: Pricey food and drinks, not much going on
  • Activities: best sightseeing was the airport coming home
