My partner and I stayed here to...

Jun 2007,  Kim

My partner and I stayed here to celebrate my 40th birthday. What we couldn't understand is why it has taken us so long to discover this place.
The accommodation was fine. Everything you need is available and it is clean! Staff are polite.
The noise from the main precinct can be a problem but since we were down there till 3.30am every night it didn't cause us any problem.
The weather was lovely 26 degrees every day for our week stay.
The food and drink was very cheap. Would recommend San Miguel restaurant! Best food in resort! We took the 186 stairs down (and up) to the prescient 3 times a day and both my partner and I returned 5lb lighter. Now that’s a first. Definitely will be returning on a regular basis! Highly recommend!

My husband and I went for a 2 week...

May 2007, greecefan

My husband and I went for a 2 week holiday from 6/5/06.
The apartments were right at the top of the mountain (which we had known in advance) but still the steps up and down to the main commercial centre could be quite taxing!
The hotel location would definitely not be suitable for anyone with small children or with walking difficulties.
The accommodation its self was good (although there was some maintenance going on while we were there) with a fabulous view over the entire valley.
No insects, even though I had been warned that if you are high up you would get cockroaches. I think we saw one dead one the entire 2 weeks we were there.
The rooms were good and came with the usual basic self catering equipment, but had a proper cooker, fridge and a TV that you could drop a couple of Euros into and watch a film - this was good as my hubby got a tummy bug and we had to stay in for a couple of nights.

As we were out of season, sort of, most of the bars had low numbers but I have to say that I ate in some of the most amazing restaurants. We tried most of them (excluding the all you can eat Chinese buffet - too many cats around the steps hee hee).
The best by far was the Miami steak house. The steaks almost filled the plate and there was hardly any fat on them at all - normally priced under 10 euro. Also upstairs in the Commercial Centre was the most amazing Indian place. The chicken shashlik was to die for.
Down by the beach you can grab and baguette or burger for a couple of Euros but there was one place which was underground at the beach, where I thought the chef was going to chop my head off because I complained about a chicken baguette that consisted of all the fatty bits and skin of the chicken - disgusting. As you can imagine we made a hasty retreat.
At the bottom of the steps there is a chicken house that has a speciality appetiser of curried onion. We had dinner there one night and were not impressed - it was the very next day that Dan took his tummy bug!!
Be careful of prickly heat - I got it pretty bad and it sort of spoiled my sun bathing for a couple of days. Take your own Piriton with you as the stuff you get out there isn't great and doesn't stop it itching.
Overall holiday was great only downside came home 7lb heavier than when I went - even with all the steps!

Amazing place! 187 steps to the...

Mar 2007, Mr K Hovi

Amazing place!
187 steps to the Shopping Centre, so not for elderly people, although Taxi costs €2 or €2.50 depending on the time of day, so it's no biggie.
All in all, the hotel is in a perfect location as far as our family was concerned.
Magnificent view, sun on the private terrace from 11am to 8pm. Supermarket and restaurant in the ground floor, so even a lazy bee doesn't hurt.
One night out of 7 the music from discos was audible enough after 11pm to be recognisable with windows closed. Not annoying though, even though some reviewers found it that way.
Really the only minus that I can think of, is the fact that most restaurants have more items on the menu that they're prepared to serve.
If you'd like to try some not-so-mainstream dishes (Like Mejillones a la marinara [Mussels mariner style]), prepare yourself for a disappointment. I ordered that 7 nights, and 7 times I got a not available.
Everyone had calamari though, so it was not a total disappointment.
Also, I strongly urge everyone to try the "Tex Mex" (Yes, that's their name) restaurant on top floor of the shopping centre, about 1/3 way from the north end. They have the best Mexican food (Don't know about authentic, lol) I've ever tasted.

I've just come back from the Puerto...

Nov 2006, Mr N Collins

I've just come back from the Puerto Feliz yesterday.
While the apartments and complex themselves are fine, the problem is the noise coming up from the CC at night. Whether last week was exceptional or not, it was absolutely unbearable.
We stayed 100 metres away in the Nevada three years ago, and it didn't seem as bad. By Wednesday, I was so sleep deprived that I was snapping at anyone who attempted to entice me into a bar or restaurant (...sorry Eddie, the PR at Scruffy Murphy's...who ignored my attitude...and arranged to get our dinner from Churchills while we watched the Ireland v San Marino match on TV...thanks Eddie)
Most of the noise seems to be coming from Harley's where they definitely yank up their bass machine around 1am. In any other country, the local residents would have the place closed down, long ago. Harley's isn't the only source of noise - most bars on the top floor of the CC are pumping out some volume of sound).
It all stops on the button of 3:30am - so I'm presuming that some type of curfew comes into force.
Don't get me wrong...I'm not a fuddy-duddy, and I enjoy my nights out...but the noise from the CC last week would wake the dead! Why they can't they put up fronts on these premises at night and install air-conditioning. And keep the bulk of the sound inside?
If I go back again it will be to somewhere definitely not parallel with the CC!
Rant over! I'm feeling better now!

We had a great time here, rooms were clean and we were impressed with Sky Sports in the room! Bus journey from airport was the only downfall of the holiday!
We walked down all the steps but got a taxi back up usually as it was so cheap. Plenty of places to eat in the centre although everyone tries to drag you in.
Tip - walk around with a lolly if you don't want to get hassled as they presume you have eaten as some restaurants give them out at the end of the meal!

Sep 2006, Miss J Clark

Just back from 2 weeks staying at the Puerto Feliz. The apartments are nice. There is everything you would need: internet, phone, washing machine, well stocked kitchen etc. The pool area is nice with plenty of sun beds but could do with more shade as gets really hot.
The pool side bar is ok if all you like to eat is white bread, burgers and chips - I asked if they had brown bread and they looked at me like I was speaking Chinese!
The rooms are nice and have pretty much everything you need (although having to pay for the TV is a pain). We had a few problems with our shower and a light in the bathroom went, but they were all fixed within the hour.
Other people on this site have mentioned the noise - and I must agree it is bad! It goes on until about 3.30/4am. If like me, you were out till 4am most nights it's fine but for people that go to bed early or have children it will be a problem - so take ear plugs.
The main commercial centre is about 200 steps down but it will only take around 5 minutes to walk so in that sense it's very close - but being so close has it's problems because of the noise.
The resort as a whole is nothing more than a concrete city with poor quality food and even worse shops. But, having said all that it's surprising what you get used to once you've been there a few days.

Apr 2006, Mr G.L Davies

I stayed at the hotel on my honeymoon with the wife we both had a fab time.
The room was really clean and well looked after by the maids. Even the maids were friendly. Wow, you can’t get that at Butlins!
Anyway the pool was brill and the food was really nice. I am going back in December with my wife again. I recommend to anyone but my advice is when you go to the shops, get a taxi back up because all those steps, wow.

Mar 2006, Miss A Clarke

Just back from a great holiday, Puerto Rico great resort but IS very hilly! 300 steps from the commercial centre to our hotel, but we didn't mind helped walk off the food and drink!
Only 10 mins walk to beach and harbour which is great. Hotel brilliant apartment had separate bedroom which I like and lots of stuff in kitchenette - but no bottle opener! And don't buy the one from the shop as it breaks!!
Overall fantastic time and loved Gran Canaria.

Feb 2006, Miss HL Cross

This This was the second visit to Puerto Rico and the first time we had stayed in The Puerto Feliz and we had a fantastic time. We couldn’t complain about the apartments or the service as both were spot on. Loads to do in the day and plenty of places for you to go at night.
The Puerto Feliz is central for everything and once you have got down the 187 steps you are in the middle of everything. Taxis are always available and at 2 euros it saves you walking back up the steps. We are going again in may for my birthday and cant wait.

Jan 2006, Miss S Brook

This was the third time we had been to the Puerto Feliz and it gets better every time. The pool side entertainment was brilliant. I had a birthday there and all the poolside staff made sure I had a brill time.
I disagree with the comments on asthma as my grandparents have stayed there before and my granddad suffered from really bad asthma but the only time it bothered him was walking the steps, but the taxis are cheap enough. The rooms are brill and so are the maid services.
We have stayed in several apartments in Gran Canaria but Puerto Feliz has to be the best I definitely recommend it and we are already booked again for this year.

We booked this holiday as a last...

Sep 2005, Ms S Mc Grane

We booked this holiday as a last minute deal just the two of us. We arrived (6.30am) absolutely exhausted that’s one of the bad things about the holiday the flight times and the other thing is no air conditioning I would love to go back there in July with our little one but I think it would be too warm. My other half slept on the balcony most nights. We found a short cut so we didn’t have to go down all the steps, we just followed the road down hill as if you are heading toward the beach and then that way we only had to walk down about 7 steps at McDonalds. We were pleasantly surprised with the rooms, when you walk into the reception though its like something you would expect in a brothel the furniture and decor was not very tasteful but the rooms were lovely although not very big I don’t think they are even big enough for the three people they are advertised for even the supermarket was great you know the way when you go to apartments that have a supermarket attached you can expect to pay top whack for everything well this was totally the opposite a lot of the things were cheaper there. We went to Mogan one day as well we went on the glass bottom boat we will be definitely going back though had a great time.
