Lovely Apartments
The Puerto Plata Aparthotel was lovely. There are privately owned rooms with the rest rented out to holiday makers. The apartment had everything you would need and was cleaned five times a week. The view from our room was stunning - we looked straight out over the resort and the sea. All rooms appear to be sea facing, although some balconies look out onto walk ways rather than the resort. The swimming pool was a decent size and warm. If you didn't manage to get a sunbed around the pool there were always plenty on the sun terrace. We had very little reason to go to reception over our two week stay but the staff were always helpful. The apartment block has a supermarket, two pool bars, a restaurant and pub/bar that was open in the evening. Puerto Rico itself is a nice resort with a shopping centre, plenty of restaurants and bars and a harbour. The beach is sheltered by a man made bay so the water is calm. The Puerto Plata Aparthotel is a ten minute walk to the centre. There are lots of steps and hills all over the resort. Overall, we had a lovely holiday. The apartments were clean and well kept. The pool area was the same. I would recommend the apartments and the resort.
Loved It
Myself and my boyfriend stayed here the second week in Sept. It started off as a disaster in the Airport, with everyones luggage being delayed by an hour and at 3 o clock in the morning that is not a good thing :P!! I had read the reviews on tripadvisor so was quite confident going over. The Studios are quiet small and basic but perfect for couples who are there for a week. The apartment was cleaned every day bar Thurs and Sun. The pool was lovely, a bit cold at the start but warm once your in it. There was always plenty of sun loungers either at the pool or on the Sun Terrace. The Pool Bar was nice, although only ate there on our first day. It is about a ten minute walk down to the Commercial Centre if you go out the top entrance and about a 5 min walk if you go out the bottom entrance. There is ALOT of steps so I wouldnt recommend it for people with walking difficulties. The Centre is lovely, a lot of lovely restaurants. Usually when we go away we would not eat in the same restaurant but San Miguels was an exception, the food was to die for. At about 8 o clock every evening there was a que of people outside (which is unusual to see). We ate in Bubbles another day however, we did not enjoy that as much as San Miguels. Oriental Express is a nice restaurant if you are looking for Chinese. We booked two excursions with the kiosk down near the beach, 1) Parasailing 2) Aqua Land. Both were very worth while because they arranged the transport and saved a taxi fare, however Taxis are still quiet cheap. Aqua Land is amazing and the day we went there were no queues. I would definatley recommend this resort/apartments to anybody going to Puerto Rico.
Nice place
Stayed at Puerto Plata Apartments in June 2007 as a group of 4, 3 adults and 1 child aged 11 and really enjoyed our stay. Apartments clean and safe and in a fairly good location. 1 shopping mall/restaurants at the top of the resort and 1 at the bottom, both equi-distant, about 1km but easily walked to each and get a taxi back or there. Restaurant/Bar on top deck at swimming pool lovely for food and chef really witty. Didn’t try one on ground floor but heard it was nice too. Restaurant on site was nice but not as cheap as restaurants in town, but handy if you did not want to go out for the night. Reception staff nice and helpful. If you want to get a dune buggy reserve one on your first day there, as we could not get any for the week we were there so there must be serious demand on them. My husband would have loved one but we will have to go back again (gladly) for a trip. The only downside of our trip was we were without hot water for 2 days, which is really not acceptable on holidays. We were informed that the water would be off for a number of hours on 1 day but it was still off on the second day. We reported this to reception and they said it was flagged up on notice boards all over the complex and it was, but only for so many hours it said on the notice board. Anyhow luckily we had friends who allowed us to share their room and we had access to their shower so were happy enough, we did not let it spoil our holiday. Anyhow we were not there to find complaints. They did try!! Would still definitely recommend these apartments to anyone as you can lie at the pool or go to the beach comfortably, have a snack at the pool and also eat at night if you want, all without ever leaving your apartments. So well done Puerto Plata. We will definitely return (soon).
hot hot hot
went ot puerto plata actually just got back today......um would i go there again? maybe maybe not. everything there is great apart from: no fans or air con in the rooms, have to rent a fan which i thought was rubbish for peak weeks..roasting hot. people queing for the chain to be let down at 9.30am for sun beds and trust me...not many germans there so give them a break.(irish and english)...who by the way wouldnt turn up for those beds till at least 3 or 4 pm.....they go back to bed. reception not a 24hr one so when the riff raff come home there is no one to say shut the hell up. the maids in the morning dont use walky talkies they just scream from one floor to the other which grinds your back bone. apart from that...the staff at the bar(open air bar) are just to die for they are so lovely and funny and make you feel like you have known them for years,.downstairs outside bar is ok but they cant get the staff to keep it open so dont be fooled by the open til 3.am sign.they close at 6pm!!! ellingtons is ok (yea right)...ok for a cat nap! ..but hey we went we conquered and made the most of it thanks to our kids and bubs, hayden, steve, ellis and janine in TIFFANYS!. HAD A GREAT TIME OUT WITH THE GUYS AND YES WE'LL BE BACK...BUT NOT TO PUERTO PLATA..UNLESS WE'RE STUCK. ADIOS.
Fantastic Stay
Just returned from this lovely resort and we had a great time. My girlfriend and i spent 2 weeks at Puerto Plata and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Puerto Rico is the perfect place for couples or families to go. We had a room with an amazing view of the harbour and beach from our balcony. The room was very clean when we arrived and the cleaners come 5 out of 7 days and they do a really good job. In 2 weeks we didn't see 1 cockroach which obviously pleased my girlfriend! There is a lovely restaurant and bar, the staff are all very friendly and helpful. Look out for Bernardo who works in the bar hes great fun and always very friendly. The pool is a good size and there is a nice sun terrace if you want to be away from the pool area and relax. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone.
Good nightlife
Went to Puerto Rico in April for 1 week and stayed at Puerto Plata Aparthotel. Nice views of the area and nearby beach (10 mins walk) from the apartment. Not ideal for people with mobility difficulties as it is fairly high on a hill. Nice clean pool with two pool bars. Breakfast frys are better in the downstairs English bar! Staff very friendly with good English. Rooms were clean enough but would have liked the sheets to have been changed more, although being a 2 star it was understandable. Towels were changed almost every day. Good nightlife nearby within walking distance, definitely recommend Harleys and Jokers nightclub. Entertainment at Puerto Plata itself was not very good but as it was April there weren't many people there so hard to tell. Amadores beach that can be reached by taxi is absolutely beautiful, it is a must-see. It can be quite annoying to shop at the nearby shops as there are people trying to coax you into a restaurant every 2 minutes. Overall a good holiday and I would go back again.
Cheap and cheerful
Stayed with my sister for a week in Jul 06 - we were aged 23 & 27. Have only just become a member hence the late review. Were pleasantly surprised with the rooms. Very clean - Nice size bathroom, two single beds, then down a couple of stairs to small living area - couch, coffee table, sofa. Cooking area, kettle, toaster & fridge. Nice balcony. We did not have a pool view which worked out well as the pool side bar could be quite noisy at night until about 3am. We were on the third floor about a 3/4 min walk from the pool. The town is quite hilly so not great for the mobility impaired but taxis are approx €2.50 around the area so not expensive. All in all it was a great place for a weeks stay, Quite couply but friends will also feel at home. Would reccommend it but a week was enough. Any longer and you would be bored.
fantastic hotel
stayed at the puerta plata several times and still keep going back cant fault it staff really friendly and helpful rooms spotless restaurant one of the best ive eaten at and would recomend it to anyone
Lovely
stayed there the week of 22nd july 2006 really nice apartments with friendly staff. the poolside bar was relaxing if you wanted to get out of the sun and the have a drink in there. the only one concern is the hills to get to the apartments. wouldnt be for the less mobile but taxi's work out cheap at €2.60 approx which is cheap.
Fantastic
Myself & 2 friends stayed in these apartments just last week and found the whole complex to be just wonderful. The pool was just the right size with plenty of sun loungers to go round and another sunbathing area just off the pool in case you're not up in time to get a poolside spot :) There were showers by the pool to rinse off, the studios were basic as always but most importantly they were clean, own supermarket, pool side snack bar/lounge with a very cheap menu and large portions & happy hour twice daily, the vista grill restaurant for night-time dining was very pleasant and reasonably priced and a cosy lounge upstairs also. All in all we had a fantastic holiday and I cannot wait to go back to the Puerto Plata.
