We have just returned from a week...

Jun 2007, Ms S Jones

We have just returned from a week stay in the Puerto Plata Apartments.
The apartments were basic but clean with a fridge, pay television, and direct dial telephone, safe for rental but no air conditioning. Taxis were approx E3 for anywhere in the Puerto Rico area, so very reasonable.
We food eating out very impressive. I would recommend San Miguel in the shopping centre... Oscars and San Milino down by the beach.
Harleys bar in the centre was a lively spot, we also tried Jokers disco on a few of the nights which is on till around 6am.
The Gloria Palace hotel offer spa treatments etc. Well worth the visit. Amoderes beach is worth a trip also.
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the trip... looking forward to going back.

Hi
Just back from Puerto Plata what a great place to stay, we have been there before and the standard does not go down only gets better from the maid staff to the restaurant staff to the great bars staff, Paco most of all.
Well done everyone they make you most welcome and will do anything to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. I would like to say that because of the many steps in and around the Puerto Plata you would want to be in you full health to get up and down the many steps... apart from that I would give them 10 out of 10 and look forward to going back again with my hubby next year.
For those of you who enjoy eating out try The Happy Valley Indian restaurant down hill great meal.

I would just like to say that Gran Canaria, Puerto Rico, Puerto Plata is great place for a family holiday. Well I have been there 4 times so that says something!
The staff who work there are friendly and the maids come into your apartment every other day to clean.
The pool is a nice size. The pool bar and the pool side bar is open till a reasonable time but it does depend on the month you go. This goes for the restaurant as well.
Well as you can tell, I love this apartment and I am going back there in a few months time. I hope you think the same if you have been there.

I went with my boyfriend, I'm 19 he's 22 (old man!) and I found it amazing.
I just loved it, the pool area was fab and they didn't open the sun bed area until 9am, so you could have a sleep in.
The rooms were always kept clean and tidy, however I would recommend that you get the air conditioning unit from reception.
The man in the pool terrace was really funny, he kept us amused throughout the holiday so thank you to him.
The bars and restaurants are 10 minutes away down hill, its fine walking down unless you have difficulties. The bars and restaurants are strange when you first get there but are great fun.
I would say go to San Miguel's near the back as its absolutely fantastic, you certainly get value for money.
If you go up the top for food be careful, don't let them talk you into it, trust yourself! (they are not all that bad, still polite)
Definitely go to Amadoras beach as its amazing!
I would recommend this place to anyone. x

Having visited Puerto Rico for the first time this summer, it was a relief to be surrounded by friendly, helpful staff in a clean and comfortable environment close to al the action in the town centre, and several sandy beaches.
The staff of Puerto Plata are fun and caring and will do everything possible to ensure your holiday is a memorable experience. Though only 3 star, we found the accomodation to be very adequate, and the complex itself was always kept clean and presentable.
What makes Puerto Plata paticularly good are its excellent pool bars, which provide excellent entertainment, and the chance to dance all night long! (which we did!)
Overall we found our stay to be very enjoyable, and we will be returning next year!

Oct 2006, Mrs K Butler

My husband and I have just returned from a week staying at the Puerto Plata apartments. The location of apartments is brill, just a short walk down some steps and we were at the commercial centre at the bottom and it was really easy to come out of the apt and get a taxi for a few euros up to the Europa centre at the top.
However the quality of the apartments was not good and we were not very impressed. The maid came in 5 out of the 7 days but she didn’t change the sheets once and our towels only got changed once while we were there.
She did some very basic cleaning like change the bin bag or wash the sink round but that was it. The food in the pool bar was good and the staff were mostly friendly but we have decided not to stay there again.

Sep 2006, Miss S O Connor

I have just arrived back from 1 week in the Puerto Plata. The apartments where clean but very basic. There were a few cockroaches outside in the corridors but thankfully none in our room. The pool is lovely and the staff seamed friendly.
The nicest beach I have ever seen is in Puerto Rico (Amadores beach) it’s a man made beach, the sand is white and the water is crystal clean, like something you would dream of.
We headed down to the main shopping centre each night where you have all the bars restaurants and nightclubs. It can be a bit annoying as everyone is shouting at you to have something to eat or drink in their restaurant or bar.
I have to say Harley’s seemed to be the best spot down there, with lots of very nice, half naked (fully naked on Mondays -ladies night) but beware of their constant happy hour €9 for an alco pop (but you get 2 so 4.50 each really)
I have to say overall I had a very pleasant stay and am heading to playa del ingles in 6 weeks so I will definitely be coming down to harleys one of the nights.

I have to say Puerto Rico is a beautiful place. Set right into the mountains’. These apartments are halfway up the hill but are a treck in the heat! A taxi is quick and cheap though, under €3.
The apartments are okay, no air conditioning which was definitely needed. Also, the ceilings were like paper and we could hear every move they made upstairs, even walking across the floor. Our door leading onto the balcony did not open or close without a shove and during the night you would hear others doors around you having to be shoved closed. It wasn’t a balcony which we had but it was like a garden/yard so you had no view and neither your own privacy.
They are cleaned and tidied on a daily basis and fresh towels are given. There is a TV which you need to pay for but a Euro will get you about an hour and there are English channels.
The pool was great and big and had a poolside bar and snack bar where you could get food all day. Also, a supermarket for all your day to day items. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There is also a very popular restaurant in the puerto plata and a disco bar.
The centre is very busy at night and you are hassled as you pass each and every bar and restaurant. This can be annoying! You can walk along the pier where there is a beautiful restaurant called Oscars, it has beautiful views of the harbour in a beautiful setting.
Puerto Rico beach is nice but a trip to the Amadorus beach is a must, it is beautiful. You can take a very nice scenic walk there through the cliffs or get a taxi there.
There all lots of other trips to take like the Aqua park and Palmitos park which are great fun. The bus goes every hour.

Me and my boyfriend stayed at the Puerto Plata apartments in Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria. Have to say it was excellent! Would definitely go back.
The apartments were extremely clean as the cleaners came 6 out of the 7 days we were there. Made beds, tidied generally and always left fresh towels. 2ring hob cooker, fridge, toaster and kettle in apartments. Pots, pans, cutlery and dishes also provided! Basic but excellent.
Puerto Rico is lovely, these apartments are well situated as they aren't too far up the hill. You have to walk down 80 steps to get to the main streets which is fine compared to the rest of the apartments you see at the top of the hill!
The main shopping centre is quite noisy with people always trying to hassle you into restaurants so we decided not to go down that way a few nights and ended up at a lovely harbour with gorgeous romantic restaurants. All the food and drink is so cheap over there as we ate out every lunch time and every night time for 3 course steak dinners and still came home with money!
Puerto Rico itself is absolutely beautiful especially at night, it was absolutely brilliant weather when we were there and there is always a nice breeze! Between 1pm and 3pm the heat is quite unbearable and we found ourselves mostly eating our lunch at this time in the shade. The sun sets around 7.30pm so there is plenty of sunshine all day and around 4pm is just lovely to relax by the pool as its still really hot but more bearable! There is 2 excellent poolside bars which do great food too!
Apartments are 35mins on the bus from the airport which is fine. All bars and restaurants are lovely in Puerto Rico with the vista grill restaurant actually part of the Puerto Plata apartments. The apartments provide a safety deposit box to hire for the week for 10euros and all keys to the doors are electronic cards which gave you peace of mind that it was very safe.
You can make Puerto Rico a romantic holiday for two or a lively holiday for a crowd as there is so much to do here. The beaches are lovely, Amadores especially!
Would definitely recommend Puerto Plata apartments to anyone!

Just arrived back from the Puerto Plata Apartments, where I stayed for 1 week with my girlfriend. Had a really great holiday!!! The apartments have everything you need, fridge, TV (With English movies on 24 hours a day), phone etc and 2 restaurants. The restaurant at the top of the hotel (not the one above the pool side bar) was excellent. Lovely, views of Puerto Rico and excellent food and service. Spent most nights in the poolside bar where free drinks are given out every night. Amadores and Puerto Rico beach are both nearby, 3 euros in a cab, which you can catch all over the island by the way. The aqua park in Puerto Rico is closed at the moment, but if you walk up to the Europe centre at the top of the hill, you can book a coach to the aqua land in Maspalomas, near-by. Really enjoyed the holiday and the hotel was fantastic. Will definitely be back in future. PS never saw a cockroach the whole holiday.

Me and 2 of my friends are just back from the Puerto Plata apartments (June 24th to July 1st) and I have to say they are just fantastic. I have been to Puerto Rico twice before and these were the nicest apartments I've stayed in.
Rooms are basic but clean and the hotel offers amenities such as a supermarket, restaurant and poolside bar. It's just a short walk to the main commercial centre and I'd definitely recommend a trip to the Harley Davidson Bar!
The best bar I've ever been to! Oh and just to sign off if Graeme, Gary and Marcus ever read this - Lyn, Lisa and Sinead say a big hello!
Lisa.

Puerto Plata apartments are situated...
6 / 10
Mar 2006, Hayden45

Puerto Plata apartments are situated on the side of a steep hill so I guess its not a place for the disabled amongst us, However, Puerto Rico is a beautiful place to visit with lovely beaches and a lovely harbour.
I would say it's more of a young people or young at heart people's holiday with lively nightlife and peaceful day life. I didn't see any trouble in the two weeks that I stayed there as long as you accept that most people there are on holiday themselves and are out for a good time. The apartment we stayed in wasn't plush but was adequate for our needs. It couldn't be that bad as I got two more holidays booked this year for the same resort.
Down in the hub of it all in town beware of all the two for one promotional drinks (Some call it happy hour which lasts two or three hours) rubbish in the bars as two drinks still cost the same as two single drinks. It's not all bad but they do and will try it on, on every occasion. if you order two drinks you'll get four, if you order one you'll get two, so make sure you ask how much TWO glasses of drink is before they pour them then you'll see what I'm talking about.
I must say though that at the apartment bar this was not the case and drinks really were buy one get one free.
