In reply to Review by Mrs.D.Long who had trouble with the security at the Puerto Plata, my wife and I stay at these apartments twice a year, and have done for 20 years and have nothing but praise for the place and the staff from the cleaners up to the managment.
I can honestly say that in all that time we have got on with everyone at the Puerto Plata, and as for the security, there is one security guard who works through the night he is based in reception and patroles the area, I have seen him ask people to be quiet after midnight, but lets face it no one should need to be told that, it should be done out of respect for other residents, in other words if people behave as they should they will have no trouble.
The Puerto Plata is a great place to go for a holiday the studios are basic but adequate and are cleaned daily, the bars and restaurant are excellent and the staff are all very friendly and helpfull, in short go there and enjoy behave yourself and you will have no trouble with security.

when i read about the place in the booklet it sounded great
for young and lively people well youd have to be for the amount of steps to get into the place and then to your room
there were noise restriction from after twelve and the reception was as bout as helpful as half a scissors last night
we wre made leave an half an hour before are bus and stand outside we wernt given time for last minute checks
peurto rico itself was great but id recommend not staying in the peurto plata a few people i know stayed in revioli (dont know if that spelt rite) and that was a lovely hotel and much nearer to the town so you dont have to spend as much on taxis

I went with my girlfriend for a week at the end of August. We got there about 2.30am and went straight to bed. The next morning we went to the pool to get 2 chairs and were told we had to start cueing about 9am when the pool opens at 9.30am to gurantee getting a chair. All receptionists had bad english and were very rude apart from one lovely man that was very helpful. Food at the poolside bar was lovely, while the bar above it was very dirty. I watched the barman/waitor making a cone for someone and sneezing on his hand while making the cone and didnt even wipe his hand

Aug 2008, Mrs D Long

Myself and my family stayed in the Puerto Plata Aparthotel in August for two weeks 2008. We found rooms nice and poolside bar very welcoming and friendly. On our first day at the pool the security man of the pool area would not let any of the children in with arm bands or tubes also they were not allowed a ball in the pool, they were told they were not allowed to jump or dive in the pool, we thought this was a bit strange as this is what children love to do at the pool while on holidays. As our holiday went on we were told not to use an I pod at the pool or eat food. We accepted this as they said it was the rules we just carried on making the best of our holidays. Other people around the pool kept coming over to us and saying this is disgraceful as the children were doing no harm to other people. We complained to the Rep and she said she was having terrible trouble with the security at the pool and hotel. We found the security in the hotel in the evening very intimating, they would follow you along the corridor banging things on the wall. we were not allowed talk from the time we left the bar till we got to our rooms as they said they would call the police, this was very frightening for the younger children who were also intimated by the security men. These children were aged between 9 -13. We had to move hotels for the last two days as we feared for the children and the young people what the security would do to them. It cost us €600 to move hotels, we had to find own hotels as we got no help from any of the reps from the time we got there till the time we left. I would just like to let other people know who are bringing children and young people that it is not like a holiday resort but more like a concentration camp We paid the guts of €16000-00 as there was 19 of us went and we felt we were very badly treated by management and security and our Reps.

Jul 2008, Ms N Daly

First when we arrived the receptionist gave us our cards and when we aked where the room was he just said goodbye, so we had to find our room ourselves, we walked down 8 flights of stairs hauling our luggage down with us!!! Then we eventually get to our room and find that the couch has semen stains on it and so to did the chair, as it was 6 in the morning we did not complain at that point. The minute we got up in the morning we went down to reception to complain about this matter and we were told that nothing coud be done until monday morning and that was two days away. For these 3 nights all 3 of us had to sleep in the same bed. When the couches were cleaned no one apologised to us or anything nothing was said to us. To make matters worse the couch was not a fold out bed it was just a couch so for the whole holiday we had to sleep in the same bed all 3 of us. There is no air con in the appartments and you have to pay to watch the tv, for the amount of money that we spent on this accomadation is was certainly not worth it , the appartments were very small and crampted the bathroom was tiny and the maids only come around 5 days a week which is ridculious. the only good thing about this place was the swimming pool it was clean!!! i would not recommend this place to anyone at all!!! its a complete dive and the staff are not helpful and are certainly not friendly!!! and as for our budget travel rep well he has a great life beacuse he was never ever there to talk to!!! budget travel i would never travel with them again!!!

Myself and my boyfriend have been going to Puerto Rico now for 5 years and have stayed in the Puerto Plata 3 times. Everytime the standards seem to get better, the staff, restaurants and overall service is always top! We love staying here and were going back again this year in March.
We have been to other apartments also but this seems to be the one which we always go back to as they are great!
Would like to thank everybody in Puerto Plata and see you in couple of months.

Me and 2 friends went to Puerto Rico. It was my first time there and I thought it was brilliant - would recommend it for teenagers. It has loads of night clubs, it is also very suitable for families because my aunties brought their young children and they were always kept busy with things to do for the children. Also the beaches are lovely and have loads of boat trips - the booze cruise is some fun.
The apartments were great, just a few cockroaches.
The poolside bar was great and the staff were very friendly.
Going to head back in August, can’t wait!

Well when I went to Puerto Plata with my boyfriend we had the best time ever, everyone was great and we had so much fun. We seen a few cockroaches but none was in our room. It has a lot of steps so wouldn't be a good place for disabled people. The rooms was spotless, the cleaners give us fresh towels 5 days out of seven. I would defiantly go back there in a few years and the next time would go for 2 weeks. I would like to thank everyone at Puerto Plata for giving us a lovely stay. xxx

Jul 2007, Mrs D Brittle

We went to the Puerto Plata for our honeymoon and was really disappointed with what we found.
We had originally booked a different hotel in Puerto Rico but due to a kitchen fire we were moved to the Puerto Plata.
There is no lay out to these apartments whatsoever and the rooms are very old fashioned and drab. You have to use at least 2 flights of stairs and a lift just to get from our room to the pool and bar which is ridiculous.
I found it quite dirty and rowdy but because I had been to Puerto Rico before I knew that these apartments were not the standard for everywhere else on the island.
I wouldn’t go back to these apartments again.

Jul 2007, Mrs Christina Ternan

Stayed here for 1 week as a group of 3 adults and 1 child.
Apartments comfortable and very clean. The only problem we had was cockroaches in our room and also there was a lot of them on the stairs and around the general area of apartments.
Another problem we had while there was the water was off for repairs and even though they did put up signs to say that it would be off but back in the evening the water was not back for almost 2 days, not what you wanted on a sun holiday.
I have to say the food in Puerto Rico was brilliant. We never had a bad meal and for what you paid it was excellent. There was a Chinese in the Commercial centre and you had a choice of 66 courses and all of it for €6.95. Now beat that!
Also the food in the restaurants in Europa centre was very good. The apartments were mid way between both shopping centres so you could pick one shopping centre and then decide whether you wanted to walk up or down the hill. One was at the top and one on the bottom.
Food at the apartments was also very good and the staff in the restaurant and pool bars were very nice. The chef at the pool bar on the top was a laugh. Would definitely recommend these apartments and will go back again soon P.G.
