" Christmas 08 at Taurito Princess "
Submitted By: emma.coulingThe hotel was clean and we had an adjoining bedroom with the kids which was a very good size and cleaned daily. We were on the 10th floor, so had to use he lifts for the pushchair and had to wait nearly every time, as lazy people called the lifts from the 1st & 2nd floors !!
The food was the same every night, it was fine but nothing special.
The gala Christmas dinner was bizarre...the waiters served to the tables rather than the usual evening buffet.
The kids had a massive plate of Spagetti bolognese followed by half a roast chicken & chips for main, then a sickly chocolate slice for pudding....all of this took around 2 hours to serve. They were definetly under staffed for the night, the kids were climbing the walls by the end of it.
The evening entertainment was boring, the kids disco wasn't til 8.30pm, only for 20 minutes, not really worth keeping young kids awake for. Adult entertainment didn't start til 10pm and was rubbish. The all inclusive wine/cava was horrible.
Most of the guests are pensioners and quite miserable. We definelty wouldn't return here, it was quite a depressing place especially around Christmas which should be a fun time !.
No where to walk so pretty much confined to the hotel unless paying out for taxi/bus else where!
Advice: Would suit the over 60's.

Submitted By: Miss C LeeThe food was very good, a very wide selection of cheeses, breads, meats, fish, salads, soups, deserts, fruits, show cooking every day we were there, however, was repeated the second week. Breakfasts were good with the usual for a good english breaky, plus omelettes, fruit, yoghurts, cheeses, cold meats, cerials, a choice of fruit juices and water. Lunch in the dining room was good too as was dinner, please note men must have long trousers for the evening meal. The restaurant staff were very nice and friendly as was the head waiter Samuel. The dining room was a little on the warm side as they didn't use the air con during meal times. You also have to wait to be seated.
By the pool - very hot in August, lots of sun beds, however, the rule of staff taking the towels off before 10 oclock wasn't really used with any consistency, only saw staff doing it twice during our stay, so unfortunately if you wanted a good spot by the pool you had to be up by at least 7am to secure it. It was hilarious watching ppl at that time of morning putting down towels, some mornings it was still quite dark at 7am. The pool area was clean and well maintained, there was a bar in the middle of the 2 pools and service was good, there was also a snack bar just past the childrens pool which was shaded, you could get hotdogs, burgers, salad, chips, pizza and freshly made sandwiches/toasty sandwiches, fruits too! plus alcohol, soft drinks, coffee and tea, all from 11-6. You were given pool towels to use on the beach or by the pool, they were changed free of charge once and then it would cost 1euro thereafter. The beach is literally on your door step, its dark sand but soft and very hot, so don't forget your flip flops! There were no sun beds on the beach but you could hire umbrellas as there was no other shade! We tended to venture down to the beach in the late afternoon when it had cooled down a bit. but preferred the pool area with some shade, weather was great, no clouds until our last day, and no rain at all, however being August it gets very hot, pool side some days got to 45 degrees, the adv. was around 35-40 degrees most days and as early as 9.30am!
Internet access was 1 euro for 10 mins, the entertainment left alot to be desired, you could go into the piano bar which was nice, or go upstairs to the princess suite where they had the live entertainment, the usual, snake man, dancers, singers etc., all entertainment finished at 12 midnite, so you could either go to bed or head out to Puerto Rico for the clubs, PR is about 15mins away and you could use the public buses as they ran until 2.30am, 1.20 euro and take a taxi back approx 12-14 euro, the clubs finished around 7am. We recommend Harley's bar with lady's night on Mondays (strippers included) then about 3am head out to Jokers nightclub, then crawl back to your nice quiet hotel in the cliffs, lol.
Do go to Puero Morgan, very nice and well worth seeing, the hotel puts on a free bus everyday, around 9am, Fridays are market days, lots to see and buy and they also have a man made beach there with light sand and blue water. PM is only about 5 mins away, opposite direction to PR.
In all we had a fantastic time in Gran Canaria, the weather was brilliant, there was quite a good mix of ppl, germans, spanish and us brits and we met a lot of great ppl, The hotel was fab and well worth the 4 stars, we will definately be going back again, its now at the top of our list.

" Negative comments:
1..Understaffed bar at peak times resulted in 20 minute queues for drinks.
2..Very poor evening entertainment programme
3..In the midle of nowhere, nowhere to walk to. (we knew this before going though)
Positive comments:
1..Hotel, rooms and pool areas spotlessly clean at all times
2..Excellent choice of meals and of a high standard.
3..Friendly staff
4..Piano bar excellent
5..Beach close by and very clean
Holiday Overall:Myself and my husband went on this holiday minus the children for our wedding anniversary and would return again, as a couple. However, we wouldn't return with the kids in tow (16 and 10). The daytime entertainment appeared to be good for children but quite sparingly for what i observed. The watersports programme was good but very expensive in comparison to prices we have paid on previous holidays. A word of advice for the men is take long trousers with you becausse under NO circumstances will you be allowed to enter the dining room of and evening without wearing them! (I only wish i knew before going it would have saved my husband from looking hideous in a pair of trousers he borrowed from reception (who have an excellent supply).
The good points of this holiday heavily outweigh the poor and altogether you won't be disappointed. Enjoy :)

Submitted By: AbsiWe had an enjoyable holiday, the hotel was very clean, the staff were very very friendly.
The food is buffet in just the one same restaurant for every meal, which at times got a little boring, until my partner ate the fish which we hadnt a clue what it was but now think that it was raw and not how it was meant to be, must have been raw as he then spent the next two days and nites in bed and the rest of the week ill. Apart from this little incident we cannot fault the hotel at all. The pool are was fantastic and there were always activites going on.
The location is quite poor as it is in a small cove with just a couple more hotels, a lido and a beach cafe or two, oh and a mini golf! but the cafes were not open whilst we were there. We would get the buses into the other resorts, either the public bus, which will scare you to death around the high cliff roads or the hotel bus, that is the safer option. I have input photos of the hotel on this website, take a look.
Oh yes, and the bus that takes you to the airport never came to pick us up! bonus!!
This holiday was not cheap!!

Submitted By: Ms N CarrollThe reception staff and friendly and helpful, the food is okay although it is quite repetative. One major downside to the restaurant is you have to get your own drinks at every meal, anywhere else i have stayed, these are served to you by the waiting staff.
There were also cracks and chips in a lot of the plates and bowls which is obviously a bit of a health hazard.
The resort is quiet which was fine for us, there is only one entertainment pub in the main sqaure, and a small childrens amusement area. The courtesy buses only run once a day from the hotel, so if you miss this and want to spend a day out then you will need to get a taxi. There are two new hotels being built in the resort and this is causing a bit of distrubtion in access to and from the hotel, much to the frustration of the taxi drivers !
In general it is an ok hotel, however after reading reviews on several sites before we went it didnt really live up to our high expectations.

overall we were quite disappoitned, The food wasnt great, Alot of fish which we disliked. Lots of variety of food but the quality was not to a 4* standard.
The hotel needed modernising and our room was not cleaned once in the 2 weeks we were there, the sheets were changed on a wednesday.
Lamps needed new bulbs and the t.v did not work. Night time entertainment for children was good but adult entertainment didnt start until 10pm and was quite repetetitive each night, alot of dancing and circus acts. The pool area was lovely although you did have to get up early to get a sunbed. In a few reviews i read no inflatables in the pool, we had a rubber ring which we were allowed in the pool and lots of children had other toys.
If you have young children, request to have a room on a low floor as the lifts are very unreliable!!
We found that there were not many British people there, mainly German.
We felt we were in the middle of no where, not many shops around, you have to get buses or taxi's everywhere. We went to Mogan on a Friday for the weekly market which wasnt very impressive, it was very busy and the stall owners were quite rude! We bought a few souveniers, Bracelets etc. Lots of Rip off T-shirts (Dolce & Banana)
We has a great holiday due to friends we made, and a free bar!
Bar staff were very friendly, as were the restaurant staff. Our Thomson rep (Gemma) Was always there if we had anything to ask. We went on the 4X4 Trip which was a good day out, If you are scared of heights this trip is not for you!!!!
On a good note the weather was FANTASTIC!!! There was a heatwave whilst we were there, 47 degrees towards the end of our 2nd week. definatley needed our factor 30!
And finally for the men that dont know, you need long trousers to wear at dinner, no 3/4 lengths, you will be turned away if they are not full leg.
I hope my review helped!
