I have just got back from the orquidea and for weeks leading up to my holiday i was reading bad reviews on here and other sites and to be honest was very worried..... i can honestly say this is the best holiday i have ever had i think this is mainly down to the entertainments staff.. stuey k,becca boo, rockin rach, big daddy, em + em,anna banana, anna tastic, elle nellie la la lewis etc etc.. these guys were the best ever kept myself my little girl who is 3 my 21 year old mate and girlf laughing and smiling all fortnight..the food is plentiful but it does tend to be the same basics so after 10 days i was getting a little bored with chips and pasta but thats mainly down to me not being into seafood as i say there is plenty of choice for every1. The hotel is very tidy and staff very friendly, something else i was worried about from other reviews. There are plenty of sunbeds to go around but if you wanna be by 1 of the 3 pools you will have to be up at about 7:30 to put your towels down other than that its down in the gardens in the quieter part but still busy so you dont feel left out. Now for the beach... there is one when the tide goes out its very pebbly but there is places for your kids to play on or yourself to lie on but its not really a bathing beach i dont think but to the side of the hotel there is a sandy beach with more sunbeds on with a volley ball court again there is pebbles seperating this and the sea but i am not a huge fan of the sea so never found it a problem all in all a great hotel and wouldnt hesitate to go again.. i would urge any1 with any doubts not to worry and take the plunge you will love every minute of it and more

just returned from a week at orquidea, myself my partner and my 3 kids, ages 3,7&12 all had a really good time, hotel was really clean, the rooms was nice clean and a good size on two different levels(we had two rooms together joint by a doorway)the rooms were cleaned and tidied up every day,no signs of any roaches about, staff are friendly and the food was good with plenty of choice on all inclusive, good to see drink machines and beer pumps out to help yourself when ever you want rather than having to go to the bar all the time, entertainment was very good and started in the morning with events going on till the end of the night(awesome bingo at 9pm 75 euro for a line and anything between 220 to 280 euro for the full house..very popular)...kids clubs was excellent and our two youngest loved going to them twice a day....soccer stu was brilliant with my 7 year old who did the soccer academy 3 times....yes pool is slippy so be very carefull and make sure your kids dont run around it,,,also the tiles around the pool get red hot(to be expected really)...if you have a family then this is the place for you, nice quite location,no noise at night and only 5 euro for us all to get to maspalomas on the bus which runs nearly every 20 mins.....cant fault it really...you would have to be picky to find many faults...also no sign of any tummy upsets whatsoever while we was there..

Me and my boyfriend had a really good time! met lots of really nice people and the hotel was definatly a 4 star hotel!
we didnt go with any kids but if u would be taking kids they would love it. The reps were fantastic with them and there was always something to do. Big daddy was so funny and was FAB!! Entertainment was always really good and the reps always put loads of effort in!
the hotel was always been cleaned and our room got cleaned every day. Our room was just above the stage area and pool and it wasnt even noisy at night.Food was good there was plenty of choice for everyone. U would need to be up about 7 if you wanted a decent sun bed tho! there was plenty of sunbeds just that everyone would reserve them and not actually go on them till dinner time. there was nothing wrong with drinks either alcoholic and non alcoholic. also lots of entertainment ten fifteen mins away if you wanted to get out of the hotel for the night. Ingles has loads of bars but be prepared to be harrassed for them to try and get you in there bar. Few little shops round the hotel for souviners suncream etc..a good bar across the road which is really lively and just 3 euro for a large beer if you fancy a few more drinks when entertainment in the hotel has stopped around half 11 .
we didnt see any cocroaches either to say you are likely to see them in gran canaria
all in all we had a really good holiday and dont let bad reviews put you off! we would go again

Having just returned from hotel orquidea we all had mixed reviews of the hotel. We arrived at 2 in the morning to find our view on the balcony totally blocked by a huge palm tree!! Reception was helpful and gave us another room with a wonderful sea view so no problems there. Height of season and i think u wont be so lucky. Rooms where nice and what u would expect from a supposed 4 star hotel.Cleaning of rooms need to be improved as sheets on bed wasn't once changed all week plus we heard of other people being moved due to COCK ROUCHES!! Grounds where OK but cleaning could be improved. BE WARNED i have never seen so many children in one place running riot, screaming and balls flying around everywhere. BE PROPERED TO GET THE SICKNESS AND DIREHERE BUG as 2 out of the 3 of us succumbed to it. MANY OTHERS MADE COMPLAINTS DURING THE WEEK WE STAYED. In my opinion which was down to the pools not being cleaned properly.Kids where throwing up and pooing in the pool and it wasn't even shut down!!! All in all we made the best we could of the holiday and generally all had a good time but would never return. If u love butlins and the cheese that goes with it then this is for you and if the constant bug of thousands of sand flies constantly on you and your food then go for it. Could be a good hotel but def not a 4 star plus hygiene needs improving drastically.

We had a lovely time at this hotel, i looked at the reviews before we went and was a little worried at the bad ones, but we were really surprised, it was really nice the food was absoultly lovely and varyed at night time and breakfast, lunch was repeative but we still loved it. we took our sons and daugther 11, 9 and nearlly 2. the boys loved the entertainment and the club reps, my daughter loved the swimming pool and the tiny play room. the rooms were ok beware there is steps in the rooms but my 2 year old was ok on them but could be a hazard for younger starting to walk etc. The hotel was clean and if there was a mess there was always someone coming to clean altho in places could of been done more but still fine.my boys enjoyed being able to go off and play games with reps, sack racing, hunts, football etc.
we took a trip into playa da ingles and the beaches were lovely, the beach on hotel is stones/pebbles, we also did the sioux city day out very good day out but heard the night time is alot nicer and more atmosphere.
also went to the market on the sat which was lovely but be prepared to haggle and to be stopped but everyone in each stall lol.
The entertainment for adults was not so good but ihavent been to one that has yet but the kids love it and it wa nice to just relax and watch them.
There is taxis outside the front of the hotel and a rank just at top of road so you can go where ever you would like.
oppisite the hotel there is shops and supermarket, can be little over price than the market but some things were ok.
overall we had an excellent trip, buses on time, planes on time, hotel 8 out of 10 definatley worth going, we go someone where different every year but would consider going back to this hotel again plus my kids want to go for 2 weeks next time. :-)

I have been to the hotel Orquidea about 6 times and we still love it as it is differnet all the time the food Is brillent and there are alot of things to do around the hotel the Hotel staff are super friendly and the reps are always helpful. My 11 year old daughter loves the hotel and the weather and everything about it she spend most her time int he pool and she loves the shows there. She loves the local shops as there are things for everything round there. every time we ar there we go to the market and she loves it because she can find things that she can't in the uk.The pool's are always clean and can be used from early in the moring just not late t night there is a sun canapy over he baby pool So that they can't get burnt the meduim size pool they play water pool, Water volley ball etc. there is quick and easy access to the beach there is a volley bll court there and can be used at any time there are lots of sun beds and there is also a place for you to clean you feet after going on the beach. The rooms are always clean when you come back when we went here we always had a animal made out of a towel or top my daughter found a monkey out of her pj's top. The food there is a large varity and is perfect for people that Are picky as there is something for everyone. The kid's club is great and the reps that help there are alway nice and help the kids. There is even a clean luagge room you can put your things in before you leave.

Nice hotel, food was VERY good for an all inclusive , plenty of choice and always hot but dinner winds down at least 30 mins before they advertise close ie 8pm latest for full choice ( the cleaners turn up after that )
Nearly all entertaintment is scandanavian esp in evenings and there isn't much outside the hotel to do.
Kids club is swedish led so probably not for your kids if your'e english
Operator didn't tell us mostly scandanavian
Rooms big enough and very clean and all considered a pretty good hotel

we went to the oquedia for 2 weeks in august,we always go abroad but decided to go to gran canaria for a change. To be honest we wee worried about previous reviews,we would honestly give this a hotel a 3 star rating, not the 4 stars it has,the plus sides were the rooms-very large and comfy, this however is the only plus side to this hotel. The food was much to be desired, breakfasts the best quality, lunch poor, dinner poor.We have been to many hotels and this by far the poorest on food prep, taste, and presentation. We found all the adults eating of the kids trolley eating chicken nuggets as the main meals were awfull, flies all over the place. The entertainment was good i suppose, but have been to better. My advise spend your well earned money somewhere else. They ran a competition for a free weeks holiday their next year-no one wanted it hey ho .

First and foremost, to those people who have given this place 5* I shudder to think what holiday expectations you usually have!!
In summary, the hotel is dirty, crowded, noisy and poorly maintained. The staff tolerate the guests at best, and are downright rude at worst.
The all-inclusive option is a joke unless you plan to survive on watered down drinks, processed foods and chips. The all-inclusive facilities are completely miss-sold and involve lots of additional expenditure. Meal times in the main restaurant were a real treat spent counting flies and watching the surly waitress staff circle around the tables scraping half eaten meals into festering bin bags hanging from their serving trolleys - what joy!! The only ray of sunshine was the excellent El Sultan A la Carte restaurant which, suprise suprise, was not included in the all-inclusive package!! and cost our family an additional £180 over our week long stay.
The reps were very helpful but slightly apathetic towards the guests' criticisms which they had probably heard countless times before. We requested alternative accomodation but this was unavailable.
On the plus side we met some fantastic people, but even this was not always by choice as the poolside sun deck was so crowded you found yourself apologizing to your neighbour if you brushed toes, tried to adjust your sunbed or attempted to pick your way through the lounger jam to get to the pool.
The rooms were serviceable but not very clean. Ours was split level which was not ideal for small children although this was pointed out in the brochure....well done Thomson!!
My kids had a great time running around the room every day playing "who had the dirtiest feet".
The resort was a little remote but again this was expected. Facilities outside the hotel complex were minimal but more representative of the Canary Island experience we had anticipated.
We have written to Thomson but to date have not received a satisfactory reply!!
In conclusion the holiday fell so far short of our expectations I found myself wishing we had booked the mock up beach scene on Thomsons tv advert instead! Sorry Thomson if that's your world, I'd rather not be welcome!!!

Our part of 4 (37,36,5,7) had a brilliant time. Breakfast was good with freshly ommelates made to order, Barbeque's everyday and I tried some brillian Beef Milanase andthe chicken was brilliant. If your looking for roast beef and yorkshire puddings then this isnt for you, but if you have a more international pallet then it is great.
We always have the view that if the kids are happy then so are we and they were entertained every day. Kids clubs in the mornings, afternoons and evenings if they wanted. I used to get a sunbed at 10am, but if you wanted a parasol then I used to get by the pool about 8:30 and stay until 9am. As breakfast was on until 10am we didnt find this a problem.
The rooms may not be suitable for children under 3 because of the 2 steps but mine were fine.
The entertainers were brilliant, especially "Big Daddy". All in all, we have been to two thomson family clubs, and been to spain about 10 times in the past 4 years and this was our best holiday!

just back last night 9th jan, was bit apprehensive what to expect having read some bad reviews but wasreally impressed with hotel, food , entertainment and service. 6 of us went ages 6months , a 4 year old and 4 adults, rooms were clean and comfortable plenty of room, maid service excellent, 4 year old loved coco and rajraj clowns, and evening entertainment was 1st class. food was good plenty of choice ,catered for everyone (gluten free, kids own range) , hotel was fully booked but still plenty sunloungers and not laying on top of each other , was a 3 euro charge for sunloungers on beach but thought that was reasonable price, bus service to other resorts every 10 mins or taxi to playa de ingles 7 euros , all in all a very relaxing and enjoyable hol def go back
