Very good, the bad reviews are unfair
from A TripAdvisor Member
We have just returned from a weeks stay at the Akti and we were very impressed. I think all the bad reviews of this hotel are very unfair, the only thing i might agree with was that the dinner was not world class, but you can't except it to be when their feeding hundreds of people, but still very good, especially from the grill and a different and varied selection every night. The breakfast was very good, even the eggs were good which you don't often find abroad! Rooms were excellent, so much space, and very clean! There was a good sized bathroom with bath and shower, and the bedroom was massive with a normal sized single bed, and a king size double, and still alot of room left over to move around, all the rooms had fridges, which was brilliant as you can't drink the tap water so we kept it stocked up with bottled water. Air-con very effective as well. The pool was lovely and big, a little cold, but refreshing as it gets very hot, you could always find sunbeds, even in the middle of the day. Snack bar very good, varied selection, and you could use it right up til 6pm. Both bar's were very good, staff work extremely hard, even though their normally working on their own! Beach was lovely, yes it was a little stony but we hired one of the pedaloes (free on all-inc) and went out a few metres and swam there, excellent range of watersports there too, we tried jet-ski's, paragliding and extreme ringo's all which i would highly recommend, great fun! Kardamena was also lovely, a couple of miles from the hotel, something there for everyone, the hotel provide free buses in and out of town, or you can get a taxi for 6.5 euros. there is also a quad and moped hire facility located on the hotel, i would highly recommend the quad's, great fun, alot safer than mopeds and very cheap (20 euros half day 30 euros full day), just be sure to ask for a helmet as they don't offer them and it's the law out there to wear them. Anyway, all in all this was the best holiday we've ever had, and the hotel and resort suits all age groups (we were both 20), we will definately return!

I was very worried having read the previous reviews on trip advisor, but it was too late to change my accommodation with only a week to go. The hotel is not very well run for a 4* although the cleaning staff were very good, the dining room was a meeting area for the local flys, who enjoyed your meal with you, there were no provisions in the any of the restaraunts to deter or kill the flies. The food seemed quite good on the first day, but then we realised it was more or less the same menu every day. The basketball, football tennis courts all need overhauling as they look shabby and unkept. We returned from our holiday a typical family of 4 on the 1st September 04, and will NOT be returning to this hotel.

We loved it!

We returned this morning from a week at the Akti Club. We were a bit concerned before we went, having read some of the reviews on this page, so went with the attitude "we'll make up our own minds" and therefore went out with low expectations. There was no need - we loved it and were not disappointed! We were well aware that "Greek" 4 star is by no means the same as "Spanish" 4 star, in the same way that "Spanish" 4 star is not what you would expect from "English" 4 star! So, we thought the rooms were absolutely fine, basic but clean and with everything you need for a comfortable stay. There were just the two of us, and we had a double bed as well as a single, and a bathroom with a shower, which we both prefer. The air conditioning was an absolute saviour, it was really hot in Kos but the constant breeze (and on one day, wind!) was a blessing. The animation team didn't cause us too much bother, they played music round the pool in the afternoons, did a "club dance" at the poolside, and tried to encourage - but not force - people to play water polo and beach volleyball, but all in all they left you alone if you just wanted to relax. We went to see their production of "Grease" and it was absolutely hilarious, very enjoyable! The pool is quite large, at times cold but this again is welcome due to the immense heat of Greece. There are loads of sunbeds, and we never had any trouble finding a couple even in the middle of the day (although people were out there saving them with their towels as early as 7am!). There is a pool bar, serving locally produced alcohol, soft drinks, tea and coffee, and snacks such as pizza, hot dogs, cheese and ham toasties, and ice cream cones, all part of the all-inclusive so it was great for kids - no pestering mum and dad for food and drink, they could simply have as much as they wanted! The food in the restaurant was quite nice, especially the food from the Grill, and the Greek Night was great - a range of typical Greek food, followed by typical Greek music and traditional dancers. Nine year old Nico played brilliantly, we were really impressed! The staff were great, my boyfriend likes to drink freshly squeezed orange juice and they were more than happy to provide this for him at each meal, 3 times a day! Yes, the beach is a bit shingly and the entry into the water is rocky, but we found it lovely as there are absolutely loads and loads of fish, and we spent hours snorkelling. There are free sunbeds. The only thing lacking was an all-inclusive bar on the beach, we had to keep going back to the hotel, but it was only a 2 minute walk! We used the free pedaloes, which were fun - but beware, they will not allow them out on particularly windy days. They also provide the free use of snorkelling equipment, but on the day we asked they had just had their last set nicked! Luckily, I had brought my own with me, and Kevin was easily able to buy a set from the mini market on the hotel site. There are other sports you can do from the beach which you have to pay for, namely anything using a motor, such as jetskis. We paid to go parascending from the speed boat, and that was brilliant. It cost us 60 euros for the two of us to go up together, it's 35 if you want to go up on your own, and they can send up to 3 at a time. Just up the road from the hotel, less than 10 minutes' walk, is the go-karting, and this cost 15 euros for 10 minutes, and was great fun. The hotel provides a free mini-bus into Kardemena, but this does get very crowded. It only returns from the town every few hours, so if you want to get back earlier the taxis are only about 6.5 euros, and you can also walk along the beach road. We did this once, and it was a really lovely walk. Don't miss the opportunity to go across the Bodrum in Turkey for a day, it was great and we got loads of bargains - t-shirts, leather jacket, perfumes, etc. I was disappointed not to get to Bubble Beach, but I would like to go back to Kos so I will do that next time! The ONLY real gripe I had was the flies - they got in our room, and they bit! (I didn't see a single mosquito!). There were also quite a few in the restaurant The flies are not the fault of the hotel, but they could try to do a bit more to combat the problem, such as put up special lighting that would attract them away from the food, etc. The only other awful thing, which has nothing to do with the Akti whatsoever, is Kos Airport - what a thouroughly horrible place, crowded with loads of queing outside, as it is so small there isn't room for everybody to queue inside! All in all, we had a brilliant holiday, and considering how cheaply we managed to get this holiday, I think we got a good deal. I am going to try to take my 3 children to the Akti next year, they will love it!

Sunny outside but not within

In general the accommodation aspect of the holiday was OK but they were overbooked and almost one third of our holiday was in another hotel which was of a poor standard but we did receive some compensation. However, nobody really ever apologised, certainly not the hotel management. The most disappointing aspect of the holiday was the food, little variety and of mediocre quality. We had to warm up our tea and coffee in the microwave even first thing in the morning, it wasn't even lukewarm. The staff are significantly overworked and most have long faces for most of the time but when you show concern and talk to them you soon find out why they look tired. They spend far too much time mopping floors which results in them being slippy and in the morning in particular this is because they hose all the patio area (you included if you don't get out of the way) just before they open for breakfast and then also wash the door mats just in time for people to drag it into the restaurant! The swimming pool is too small and there was a great lack of seating around the pool, too crammed and only suited the very early risers. The weather was great and we would return to Kos but not the Akti Club.
brilliant !!

aug 2004 , just got home had a brilliant 2wks here , the animation team were very good .. (my son won "mr akti!)" the hotel itself was basic but clean we had a maid every day, the staff all seemed very nice and helpful. the food was passable! there was something for everyone . the island was lovely if not very windy.you can rent scooters and quad bikes by the hotel and drive all over kardemena for 15e's. I would recomend this hotel if you have children as there is so much for them to do. I would definatley go back.
Not a 4 Star Hotel
from A TripAdvisor Member
Took 2 children, aged 13 and 10 July 2004. Extremely good amenities, such as tennis, football and watersports, (a pool table, but all the balls remained in the middle!). Food quite good. Rooms very basic considering a 4 star hotel, I would probably rate 3 star maximum. Found a mouse and ants in our room, reported the incident but nothing was done, got rid of them ourselves. Entertainment was good, all Italians, but became quite mundane after 2 weeks. A bus ride to Kardamena but no-where to walk in the evenings when staying at this hotel. Plenty of sunbeds but you needed to be up at the crack of dawn to `reserve` them! Beach very pebbly so if you have kids that like sandcastles, forget it. On the whole a nice relaxing holiday for us but wouldnt be in a hurry to return.

spent a week at akti club in early july 2004. i have to say it was one of my best holidays i have had. it was hot but the breeze kept it bearable. the rooms were spacious & clean and the air conditioning works well. i was worried about this hotel when i read reviews before going but ignore the bad reports. the food was lovely & hot with lots of choice. the grill is excellent. the pool was nice but very cold also quite deep. we could always get a sunbed and also poolside bar was very good. the hotel was quite lively which i enjoyed but it didnt stop you from relaxing. we hired a quad from the hotel which i have to say was an experience a lot different from my motorcycle at home. i would definately go back. the views in kos are stunning. you must visit kos town it is a lovely city. the castle is definately worth the 3 euro entrance fee. kardamena is a lovely town. very traditional with narrow streets but also has a lot of english bars and cafe/restaurants. the staff in the hotel were every so helpful and always polite. our air con broke and was fixed within two hours. the tennis courts were also good & well maintained. the beach is quite stoney but not unbearable. there are parasols on the beach if you want to stay in the hotel. we did walk to kardamen one day it took 45mins-1hour + was tiring in the heat so would recommend finding transport to do it. greece also won euro 2004 while wwe were there which gave the whole island a fantastic atmosphere. anyway 10/10 for this accomodation
Good hotel

In all fairness this was a good hotel. I have stayed in better yet i have also stayed in worse. I thought the hotel staff were great and the entertainers always tried their best. Due to the fact that i only paid 300 pounds to stay here on an all inclusive basis probably meant i enjoyed it that little bit more. The hotel is just a simple well kept property. It just depends if you are used to staying in top accomodation or not.it is widely known that a 4* in Greece would not be as good as it would be in Spain, and a 4* in spain would not be as good as it would be in Florida. Each country has its own rating systems so bear that in mind. Anyway back to the hotel:- the food was good yet was repetitive which didnt bother me but if you are picky then you will not enjoy. The rooms were suprisingly stylish for Greek accomodation, well kept and tidy. The pool was nice and always got sunbeds. Never had to queue for the restauarant or the bar (allowed 2 drinks at a time). Bar staff always worked extremely hard even though they often worked alone. The beach was lovely and quiet yet quite hard to get into water due to the big rocks but just take a pedaloe out to avoid this (free with all inclusive). Didnt really get involved with entertainment as it is more suited to either the kids or the parents, and being 20, i didnt really fancy it. The only big down point was mosquitoes. These were terrible, make sure you take an awesome repellent with you and never leave your door open as they will bite, believe me. Anyway i hope this is helpful to you. Just dont go there expecting amazing accomodation and youll have a great time. Ross
We were not sure about going All inclusive to Kos but we needn't have worried. We don't normally do packages but this hotel is superb. Great rooms, clean and good service. Food very good with choices of Chinese made by real Chinese chefs and Italian was also very good again... more
