Tryp Guadalmar

We have just come back from Seville and Malaga and spent our last 3 days at the Tryp Guadalmar where we had previously stayed 3 years ago. Our stay was a little disappointing. The hotel is just not as nice as it used to be. The staff are still not majorly friendly to non-Spanish people. On our second night, we had to move out of our room as we discovered a great massive insect who wasn't paying rent! no major apology from the staff. I was in Malaga for a short stay, and NO ONE speaks English there. This hotel was FANTASTIC. As soon as I entered, i saw how beautiful it was, and most of the staff spoke English. The poolside and restaurant are beautiful, and the hotel is located on the beach (through a private door). It's lovely. Ill only go to Malaga again to stay in this hotel. We only stayed here for one night. We wanted something close to the airport so we basically just decided on the closest hotel with a double bed for the cheapest price. I was very pleased at how nice the hotel was. We got it for about 75 Euros. The room was very clean and updated. We had an ocean view and it was absolutely beautiful! It was very quiet and I didn't really hear any planes. The internet service in the lobby wasn't free but it was pretty cheap compared to other hotels. Location was ideal on the beach but way out of Malaga centre.I stayed bed & breakfast for a week in June 2006.At breakfast I found waiters to be inattentive as though they had other things to think about-Poor service in a 4* Hotel.Need a lesson in smiling too.Disappointed overall.

We just returned from Spain where we spent two nights at the Tryp Guadalmar. The first was on the night of the Fest of San Juan (June 23). Our hotel looked out on the whole thing. The doors where double glazed so we could sleep in peace and enjoy the celebration as we wished. The second stay was wonderful too. The hotel has beautiful gardens and pools, but is next to the beach. I stayed here with my wife for one night. We needed a place near the airport and location-wise it was perfect. We didn't use the beach, pool, or excercise room, but they all looked nice. The room was serviceable and a decent size. We ordered room service and it was surprisingly good. The staff was not the friendliest and I had a lot of difficulty, of all things, getting directions to the airport which is 5 minutes away. For a hotel so close to the airport I don't know why they didn't just have pre-printed directions.

We stayed at the above hotel for the 2nd time last week, and found everything as good as the 1st visit. The 4* hotel is close to Malaga airport(and quiet), in its own sandy cove. Outside is a bus stop where you can get to Malaga in 20 minutes for 90 cents, or a taxi to Torremolinos is around 10 Euro. The staff are very helpful & the rooms excellent. We stayed here for one night before moving onto a timeshare unit the next day. The lobby gives a "four star" impression and the staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were a good size and since we booked rooms on both sides of the building we were able to appreciate the excellent views both up the beach towards Malaga, and down the beach towards Torremolinos. We need a hotel near Malaga airport to catch an early flight and this seemed to fill the bill. It is set in a quiet area right on a pleasant little beach with sea views from the rooms. Our room was huge, well equipped and clean and the hotel generally was very pleasant. The hotel is wheelchair accessible. We had a similar experience with eating to another correspondent - the two small places nearby were both closed and we ended up back in the hotel bar for a decent but unremarkable sandwich. We stayed at the hotel overnight before travelling elsewhere and as we arrived at approx 10 pm we were appreciative that it was only a short drive from the airport (approx 10 euros). Reception informed us of 2 possible eating places a short walk away - one was closed and the other appeared to be only a bar. Thus we returned to the hotel to be fed. The bar offered a small selection of acceptable quality food - we'd been travelling for a while and were glad of anything, however, the bar lacked ambiance as it was much too well lit. The... more
