Less than basic

"Have returned from Siesta Mar 1 today. I have to say that I would never go back there again. 98% of our holidays have been self catering and this has proved to be one of the worst. We loved the island of Menorca and would probably visit cala'n Porter again. But in my opinion Siesta Mar has had it's day! We had a 2 bedroom aprtment which was grubby. Everything you touched felt tacky, and there was a definite, unfavourable smell about the place. This was rectified after purchasing air fresheners, and removing the damp, musty blankets from the wardrobes. It took the first week of our holiday for the staff to sort out the timers on the sprinklers (we had to make a 2oo mtr dash every evening after 9.30pm to avoid getting wet) Everything we took out of the cupboards had to be washed before we could use it. The Apartment backed onto a main road which turned into something similar to a grand Prix circuit after midnight. If the cars and loud music didn't wake you between midnight and 6am then the singing, swearing revellers would. It has to be said that the pools were well kept, but there wasn't a sunbed in sight at Siesta Mar 1, your only option was to lie down in the grass with the ants! And there were lots of those. The staff were helpful but over stretched, but tried their best to look after you. Having spoken to other residents before our departure, I am not sure the 'theft' problem has been sorted."

"Just got back from Siestamar this week. We stayed in a 2 bed apartment which we found to be big and a large terrace out the front and a small one at the back. The apartment overlooked a main Road but did not cause too much noise. On arrival we had to wait 3 1/12 hrs for the apartment to be cleaned which i felt wasted a day of our holiday. The apartment was basic but had everything you needed (apart from a TV). The complex is large and had everything you needed there or just outside. Staff were friendly . Breakfast was okish with buffett choice each morning from9am-11.30am. A couple of times chicken nuggetts and chips were served as the bacon and sausages were finished.Good selection of fresh bread, croissants, cereal etc. Excellent swimming pools which were not too crowed in the peak season. Overall a good holiday.

Calan N Porter - Very small with approx 20 restaurants and several shops, a tobacconist and pharmacy, 3 supermarkets. Excellent beach but expensive to rent sunbeds (17 euro for 2) Steps to beach an absolute killer coming up.

shocking holiday

"well where do you start

the apartments are basic which are expensive. cleaned twice a week , the only problem we had was that my 11year old trianers were stolen from the apartment . the maid had left the doors unlocked when she had finished . which for me was a bit silly has the apartment was next to the main road . we didnt get the police involved has there was no break in to report.

the beach is about a ten minute walk down a stee road which is ok going down . although there is mini bus that takes you to the beach from apartments and back which is great. the beach is brilliant great for kids . the cafes are ok but if i was you i would get the 1pm mini bus back up the hill, go to pitos which is brilliant.

the resort, well the place is very low key and expensive beer is about £2.50/£3.00 a pint everything for the kids seems to cost one or two euros about 80p for a bag of quavers 2 euros for a coke . the bouncy castle place over the road is expensive 2 euros for bouncy castles for 30 minutes 3 euros for trampoline. so with 5 kids its 25 euros for 30 minutes. which is all there for the children to do. unless they are older and can go next door to watch the live entertainment.

the bar at the apartment sell a wicked pizza at around a fiver . just make sure you give the short bar man to many euros . i made a mistake and gave him 5o euros when i should have given him 40.he pocketed the 10. no tips for him a week from me . so be careful .

place to eat , pitos for us was brilliant . value for money large plates full . a family of 2 adults and 5 children can eat for 35/45 euros . and not need to again for hours after, the fish and chips are massive (whale n chips)

places not to eat,the village pub is expensive and you get small portions although the food is ok,. la salamanda is good, but expensive for the quality of food you get.

anyway if you want a better a holiday go to cala forcat the talayot apartments are brilliant the familys with kids. it cost about £200 more but worth it . thers a great aqua park ther and loads for the kids to do .

We stayed in seista mar 1 which is...

"We stayed in seista mar 1 which is the quieter area compared with sm2.The room was ok but nothing to special and was clean though the cupboards and work surfaces felt tacky.bathroom clean and linen changed halfway through the week.

The grounds are tidy and well maintained along with the pool area at sm1 and sm2. The pools are fantastic for all ages off children ours are 3 and 7 and the pools kept them busy for days on end.plenty of sunbeds but would imagne this would not be the case in the high season. There is a rule of no sunbed hogging and warnings that towels would be removed but this never happened as people did leave towels and chairs on there beds and went off for hours at a time.

The breakfast option was pretty poor as we were expecting a buffet type of thing rather than a fixed menu which was a little poor(chips for breakfast).

The pizza resturant that is there is really good and worth a visit.

Overall we found eating out quite expensive and drinking out even more so.Place to vist is the castle for a good well priced meal and drink.

Generally seista mar is a no frills appartments but good pools and grounds.if your looking for a room that blows you away seista mar is not for you.Kids will love it and it is not a bad place to holiday.

We would go again for along weekend at cala en porter but not at seista mar...sorry..

On arrival we had to wait as...

"On arrival we had to wait as apartment was still being cleaned. No air conditioning so had to rent fan for week at cost of 12 euros 15c. Bedroom backed onto very noisey road, plus no double bed two camp beds pushed together. Apartment needs refurbishing throughout, bed settee in lounge very tatty, uncomfortable and covered in paint. No sun loungers round pool at Siestamar 1. So pool not crowded. Surrounding area not all disabled friendly, some pavements had no dropped kerbs, husband took his mobility scooter had to use the road to get access to some pavements. Local beach is beautiful, but not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties or heart problems had 192 steps for access. We only gained access by hiring a car to approach via very steep road. We would not recommend the Salamanda Restaurant very poor food, not friendly staff. We would definitely recommend Petos Restaurant, good food, fantastic choice and really friendly staff. This made the holiday."

Just got back 2 adults 4 children...

"Just got back 2 adults 4 children ages 4,6,9,11.....had a fantastic time. Stayed in 3 bed apartment really spacious and clean ground floor over looking pools. Weather was great and complex you couldn't fault really family friendly, spent most of the time around the pools.....have to be up early for a sunbed though ! Food quite basic but they make great pizza's. Cala n Poter itself quite small and quiet but everything you need is on your doorstep with the option of cramming on a bus to Mahon. Beach lovely once you get down all the steps !! There is a train or bus if you don't fancy the walk. There is a spar supermarket across the road from Siestamar that sells all you need but the english foods, bread, cereals, papers are expensive. Great places to eat El Pulpo quite expensive but nice food, Sa Piassa do great paella and have tribute bands playing in the evening. A MUST to eat just past the cross roads is PITO'S BAR fantastic food and great value we never managed to finish our meals they're HUGE , the bar terrace opposite sa piassa do lovely tapas. All in all we had a fab time the kids loved it and we definately will be going back next year."

Excellent holiday!!! Lovely island,...

"Excellent holiday!!! Lovely island, nice and quiet but with enough to do for our three children. Island, resort and apartment lovely and clean. Thomson were excellent, right from booking the holiday, to reps being on hand a lot and the trips.

Apartment was well stocked with iron, kettle and toaster with plenty of pots and pans,

rooms very clean and the maids did a fantastic job with clean towels and bed changes regularly.

Pool area kept clean but the only down side to the whole holiday was the small number of sunbeds around the pool and no parasols for shade (although there was shade from trees etc). Despite management asking people not to reserve sunbeds with towels people still did resulting in no beds being available. When we arrived (14 June) there were enough beds but by the end of the holiday (26 June) it was getting busier and there were not enough beds but nothing the reps could do about it. One thing not mentioned in the website was two waterslides which were great fun.

Beach gorgeous though and not far away, via 192 steps!!!! Sea lovely and warm and extremely calm and shallow, great for kids. Snorkling great!!!!

There is another pool in Siesta Mar I across the road which is very very quiet. Had it to ourselves a couple of days!!!!!

Good choice of restaurants and bars at reasonable prices (despite £ versus euro!!). Well stocked supermarkets at competitive prices.

If you like a good show, go to see Somni at Ferriers. Excellent show with black stallions, a white horse with wings and funny clowns. Great show for everyone.

Overall, excellent holiday. Would definately recommend and would return again.

Just returned from holiday with...

"Just returned from holiday with Thomsons to the Siestamar apartments in Cala N Porter, Menorca. The apartments were very spacious, clean and cleaned twice per week, however, the bed linen was only changed once.

I was disapointed with the childrens entertainment, which consisted of poor disco on an evening and bingo afterwards for which they always seemed to lose some of the balls.

My son went to the kids club once on an afternoon to play basketball/football for one hour, after this he wasnt interested in going back - so complete waste of money.

The average price of a meal for a family of four was around £50 so even more expensive than back home, a chinese meal cost 70 euros.

The resort itself was very quiet with not a great deal to do, no tabacco shop - we had to go into Mahon on this bus.

The beach is beautiful but if you have a pushchair or dont like stairs (about 150) you have to go down a hill which takes about 20 minutes.

The only place I would recommend is the Playhouse for children which has a wide screen tv and bar for adults which if you get any bad weather (we did) then the children are entertained (not courtesy of Thomsons) and you can relax too, at 4 euros for each child and you can go and return as many times as you like in a day.

I also wouldnt recommend the Salamander restaurant - my husband wasnt very pleased with the child sized portions he recieved.

I seriously advise not to come hear....

"I seriously advise not to come hear. We stayed in Siestimar 2 and the accomodation is siply awful. No hangers to hang clothes in the wardrobe. There is no lift so we had to carry our luggage up 3 flights of stairs in boiling hot sun. We weren't aloud in our apartments until the cleaners had cleaned them, which was 3 hours. The bars around were nice and they served nice food. Kids really enjoyed the beach. The holiday got better as we got used to it in the end"

This has to of been the worst holiday...

"This has to of been the worst holiday we have ever been on! The dopey reps were useless, more concerned about going out and getting drunk most evenings, even local shopkeepers commented on how bad they were!

In the first few days we had moved rooms FOUR TIMES! Which I had to arrange because the stupid reps were not capable. The rooms were ok a little dated, I spent most of the time in the reception trying to get answers to our problems, thought that is what the reps were meant to do. Had requested a ground floor room as I have a young child for safety, but in the end had to go in a top floor room, so constantly on edge.

The waiting staff in the resort were very rude and ignorant , don't bother booking any trips with the reps these were a total rip off! The prices were almost triple, just hire a car and go yourself, we had no rep services at the airport just left to sort things out ourself. The Thomson cabin crew were not much better!

The best part of the holiday was dining out at one of the local restaurants 'The Castle', exceptional value for money and the service was excellent. In all, a rubbish place, useless company and we certainly would not recommend it. If you do go, mind the cat poo that seems to be everywhere!

Just returned from a week’s holiday...

"Just returned from a week’s holiday at the Siestamar 2. 2 adults and 5 kids ranging from 5-19.

Accommodation was fine, hotel entertainment very basic but the bar down the road provides excellent entertainment. Room was cleaned twice during the week.

Beach was lovely though there are a lot of steps but we expected that. We hired a car for 3 days and toured around the Island. All the children enjoyed the holiday, and it takes only about 15-20 mins transfer from the airport.

My only complaint is that the weather wasn’t brilliant, but it is October and at night we were bitterly cold with only a thin sheet and bedcover, blankets were provided when we asked though. 2 of the bedrooms were flooded during a thunderstorm but we dealt with it and it certainly didn’t spoil our holiday.

No problems with buying what we needed from the local Spar just across the road, I’d certainly go back there though probably a bit earlier on though.

Just returned from a fantastic...

"Just returned from a fantastic holiday at the Siestamar 2. Plenty to do for the kids who ranged from 6 to 17. The staff were very friendly and the rooms spacious. The rooms were only cleaned twice during the week and not three times as we had expected, although they were generally clean. A family member had a fall in the bath as there are no mats or slip grips in the bath, and ended up with a broken rib. Take care. Entertainment a bit basic.

The beach was beautiful although the steps were exhausting, but worth it. Weather could not have been better ranging from 25 to 32 during the week, a couple of thunder storms in the night only.

Not a lot available in the local shops and tabacco will need to be purchased in Mahon or at the duty free shop in the airport.

Food very good and reasonable in the Siestamar 2. Salamander restaurant very friendly and reasonable but a little disappointed with the main meal which was very salty. Sa Paissa next door has excellent food, although a bit rushed and the entertainment in the evenings was great. Spirits a little pricy though.

Just returned home on Saturday and have booked again for the same time next year.
