Good 4 *
from Emmylou22
This is a good 4 * hotel. It's in a great location and is very clean. The rooms and balconys aren't huge. The bathrooms aren't the most modern you'll ever see but like I said they are clean. The hairdryers are ridiculously inefficient- like being breathed on. The food, which is a buffet, was very good and I’m not quite sure why so many people are slating it. It’s a buffet, not a la carte! Loads of choice, fresh. Even had soya milk at breakfast time. There is also a grill chef in one of the restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant staff are efficient but not particularly smiley. Also, at breakfast you may struggle to get a first cup of coffee, let alone a second. I have read in some reviews that this hotel is marketed as 'adults only', which we were looking forward to but I would say that this is a 'family' hotel. However, there isn't an awful lot for children to do. There is a bit of the pool fenced off for kids, but it's small. The bar staff are really nice and there is entertainment, of various quality, every night. There are only 2 reasons why I probably wouldn't go back to this hotel - firstly, the pool area isn't the biggest I've ever seen and if you are late risers you may struggle to get a sunbed, and if you want a sunbed in the shade forget it!!! But it's a nice pool with some nice views. Secondly, it's possibly the noisiest hotel I've ever stayed at. From about 8am the sound of beds etc scraping across the floors is enough to drive you mad. However, we had a lovely time and you could do a lot, lot worse.
NIce and quiet
from Ian_&_Jiab
My partner and I sayed in the Audux for a long weekend in June. Our room was above the entrance facing the pine trees on the opposite hill. The room was still quiet and we were only on the second floor. I read the reviews and some people complain about the food in the two restaurants. The breakfast was great with pasteries (these are normally grabed eraly bu the Brits), cereal, bacon, eggs, etc. The Spanish sausages are fantastic, cooked with garlic - gorgeous! (just watch out, it is not an ENGLISH sausage, it had taste!) We got the hotel with B&B and paid twice to eat the buffet dinner (EUR16 each). We normally use the restaurant on the fourth floor, a bit quieter and they cook the food in front of you. The Spa looked good but expensive, we wanted to try but did not in the end. The pool is large the terrace had a great view over the bay. We did not buy any food or drinks at the bar so i cannot comment about the price. Overall i recommend this hotel to most people. I don't think this hotel is good for someone with children but the resort is. The shallow, calm water is great for children and the resort is nice and quiet with no loud nightclubs or bars. The only loudish hotel bar is the cala galadana-the big hotel and villa complex. It was very good though with live bars and singers until about 11pm.
Forget the food
from Jill&Paul
We have recently returned from a one week stay at the Audax. We took the half board option as there was only a £30 reduction for B&B only. We weren't expecting the evening meal to be up to much but the self service buffet was worst than we had anticipated on the two evenings we tried it. Even more disappointing were the breakfasts. Steralised milk for the cereal and the coffee, fruit juices mixed from a powder and served warm from a dispensing machine, all the bread and baked goods were obviously bought in part baked, cartons of yoghurt that had gone off, hard boiled eggs with a very funny taste and consistancy and one that had even been already cracked open by someone else and then returned to the servery upside down to hide the evidence, tinned pineapple and fruit cocktail. I am not particularly fussy and would have been happy with a decent cup of coffee with fresh milk and a fresh bread roll but this hotel does catering canteen style and as cheaply as possible A nice enough hotel otherwise but if you want to enjoy your evening meal try the Delite bar and restaurant up the hill.
food not four star standard
from judles
Just returned from Audax, had a lovely hoilday, but would agree with other reviewers that the food is not really up to much. The buffet is very unimaginative and the choice not extensive,it would be comparible to a good three star. Not a problem, but nothing to get excited about. We have stayed in Thompson's platinum and gold hotels, the Audax though a similar price, does not meet that standard, because of the basic food choices.Ourseven year old son was made very welcome, although there were no facilities for children at all.Dinner is served at seven thirty, with no early option. The beach is beautiful but the sunbeds are a rip off, 21 eruos for two beds! Be prepared to budget for this if you cannot bare to lie on the sand! The sea is lovely and both the hotel and resort were spotless.
Big Dissappointment
from PinkLady9
We have just returned from our 2 week holiday at the Audax in Cala Galdana. What a dissappointment the hotel was....we had paid extra for a junior suite but the room whilst large and spacious had tired decor, was dark (we had to use a torch to see into the safe in our wardrobe!!), smelt musty and had a very small balcony that got absolutely no sunshine during the day. we also had company in the batroom in the form of cockroaches- arghhhh!. The hotel food initially was ok but soon became boring, samey and repetetive (the steak was very tough and chewy!); so despite being half board we opted to eat out several times. this hotel aims itself at the adult/couples market (with having the Spa and Wellness centre) and yet there were many families with young children whilst we were there, which in itself isnt a problem, but was not quite what we expected. we were frequently awoken early in the morning by crying babies and children running around on the floor above us. We did overall enjoy our holiday but this was despite the hotel and not because of it. Cala Galdana is very pretty and has a wonderful beach with fine white sand and shallow warm water to swim in. We enjoyed our meals in the local restaurants we chose to eat in. We will go back to Menorca one day as its a lovely island, but we will not be staying at the Audax again.
Great Relaxing Holiday
from Tim-the-Helm
My wife and I have recently returned from our holiday at the Audax Hotel (3-17 July) and we had a wonderful time there. Cala Galdana is probably the best resort on the Island and the Audax in our opinion is certainly better than the Sol hotel on the opposite side of the beach. The resort is quiet with a couple of bars and several restaurants but that suited us well. The beach is lovely, but there are a lot of sunbeds close together with many unused due to the outrageous prices (21euro for 2 beds and a parasol per day). Do not pay this, go to one of the beach front shops and buy either lilos or the rush mats and your own parasol - this cost us 9 euros for the entire holiday. The beach does get crowded though in the bits where there are no sunbeds... The Audax is somewhat unimpressive from the outside, but lovely inside with good public areas, a great bar/terrace area and 2 restaurants on the 4th and 5th floors. Both are buffets, but the 4th floor one has a show cooking area where the chef will prepare cook fresh meat and fish for you while you wait. The food is excellent and we only ate out in the evening twice, just for a change of scenery, nothing more. All of the staff are very friendly and helpful. We had a sea view room on the 7th floor (731) and it is definitely worth the small extra. Our balcony was on the front of the hotel but had a perfect view of the bay and the beach and got the sun in the evening. The rooms are nicely furnished and whilst smaller than some we have had before, perfectly large enough for the two of us. We like many posters here used the spa on two seperate occasions and it is an excellent facility, certainly worth the 20 euros each (10% discount off this with First Choice). We stayed there all afternoon both times as there was no pressure to leave. We hired a car for two days and that was enough to see most places on the island. A word of warning though it is very difficult to park in Cuitadella even in the evenings and car parking is at a premium at the Audax although there are some car parks a short walk from the hotel. The car hire desk in the hotel is more expensive than outside. We used the first one you come to when turning right out of the hotel up the hill (74 euros inclusive for 2 days - Renault Clio with a/c). The hotel got busier on our second week and the dreaded dawn sunbed towel patrol started despite signs asking you not to do it. It really is annoying to come down after breakfast to find all the sunbeds covered in towels and then not get used until about lunchtime and the thing is it was the Brits and not the Germans doing it... We recommend the Audax but not for teenagers wanting nightlife.
Great Hotel
from paulaud
Just returned today from Cala Galdana and the Hotel Audax. The hotel looks fairly non descript from the front but dont be deceived this is a lovely hotel with nice rooms, freindly staff, and excellent food. We arrived on a Wednesday to be told we would be given a better room the following day. As compensation they offered us a free Lunch with drinks. We moved rooms on the Thursday and we received a bottle of Champagne. We overlooked the pool, might be worth paying extra for the sea view. Rooms are air conditioned and comfortable with TV, bathroom, shower etc. Shampoo and liquid soap is provided. Hair dryer as well. The bathroom has some women type things eg. lavender water, emery boards etc! Not much to do in this resort but i recommend: 1. Check out the Cala Galdana Hotel every day . They have acts on each night eg Four Tops, 4 Degrees, Elvis (Not the real ones of course) Beware, drinks are very expensive!! 2. Just past the above hotel is the Bar Mississippi, Happy hour every night till 9pm 2 drinks for price of one. This is the only bar that does it. 3. For a change when you come out of the hotel dont go on the beach front but turn right outside reception and head up the hill behind the hotel.. There are a few cheaper bars up here and a supermarket. Make sure you visit Sa Lluna restraunt and bar. Ask for Peter the owner. Mention my review and ask him who RORY was. It will probably get you a free drink and he will know who tipped you off. You will love the story. I will not spoil it for you. The food is good here and well priced, usefull to know if like us you are half board and need somewhere for lunch. Overall this resort is beautiful with no idiots in the bars or the hotel. Pool at the hotel is very quiet and make sure you go on the upper level to find the jaccuzzi. However, drinks are expensive. Average price at a bar on the front 5 euros, much dearer in the cala galdana hotel. Surprisingly a little cheaper in the Hotel Audax bar. Sunbathe at the hotel as beds are free. 2 beds and a parasol at the beach will cost you 21 Euros for the day! Scandalus. Apparently they have had 2 price increases since the start of the season. No wonder Spain is begining to lose its appeal to travellers. When will the Spanish learn. They are quite wealthy people now but mainly as a result of the tourist trade and I think they are pricing themselves out of the market.
fabulous holiday
from broderick_family
We have just returned from a 2 week stay at this great hotel. My husband and 2 daughters, 20 and 23 found this a very friendly and relaxing place to stay. Both our rooms were on the 7th floor with a sea view, well worth paying the extra for.The food was always excellent, with plenty of choice. All the staff were very polite and helpfull and the spa was extremely relaxing with an excellent variety of treatments. The resort was quiet but with some lovely walks. All in all a lovely place and hotel we would certainly come here again.
Lovely, relaxing time, great holiday.
from libranlady
We have just returned from a week's stay here. My husband, myself and 2 daughters aged 22 and 19. We absolutely loved it. The rooms were clean, well furnished and the maid service excellent. Our room was on the 6th floor overlooking the beautiful beach and it was well worth paying the supplement for this view. The hotel restaurants were very good with varied choices everyday. We never felt hungry or had cause to complain about anything. The hotel is really geared to adults and although our daughters were in the minority of younger people, they absolutely loved it there. We enjoyed the spa circuit and had some beauty treatments and a thoroughly good relaxing time all round. In the evening there was varied entertainment at the hotel and in and around the resort. For the football lovers the hotel had organised a wide screen tv so people could watch the world cup matches. I cant say anything against this hotel and we would all happily go back there again. Excellent.
Perfect place for a pelaxing holiday
from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed at the Audax with my wife for 2 weeks at the end of May and beginning of June 2006. We are both in our early 60's and found the Hotel and Cala Galdana perfect for our requirements. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the restaurants friendy (without being too friendly) and the food varied and well prepared. We particularly liked having part of it prepared in fron of us. The reception staff were pleasant and effecient and the sea views from our 4th floor room were stunning. We are not ones for going to the same place twice (the world is too small a place) but we will certainly visit the Audax in Cala Galdana again.

Cala Galdana is in a beautiful bay that looks as good as the photographs. Swimming there is excellent, as it is at the coves of Cala Mitjana (walking time: 30 min.), Cala Macarella (45 min.) and Cala Macarelleta (65 min.), to all of which there are pleasant cliff walks for... more
