Dec 2005, Mrs L Langfrey

We were actually staying in a very nice hotel on the beach front in Sitges when we got into conversation with another couple that told us about Hotel Dolce. We took a drive up to the hotel and was taken on a tour of the entire place.....we were hooked and stayed there for... more

Dolce not ready yet
New Hotel . No soul and no taxi to get there. Unbelievable waiting list to get back to the station. The restaurant is expensive and , if it happens that you are in the middle of a conference, you will have your main course when your appetizer has been already digested, which may be good for your stomach but not for your mood. Service is so-so, bell-boy Nico particularly unpleasant with security and other matters(just a pretext to nag, are we in Fort Knox?). Bar empty at all times, only conference people with dangling badges running up and down the lobby from one laptop to the other. Attractive pool but noisy engines from central ventilation area spoil the thing. During our stay, a nearby open-air disco hammered the air all night long with techno-music (or house music, which for me it's the same nightmare)and one need to sleep with windows hermetically closed and AC on. The view is beautiful , but so what?
Good views, high prices and isolated
Stayed for a few nights at the Dolce, got a good deal. Our friends were staying in town, so we went down there a few times...taxis cost €8-10 each way which soon racks up. The hotel is beautiful with a fantastic pool and great views over the town and Med. Be warned though that unless you have a car your only choice is to wait for 10-15mins for a taxi. To get back late at night taxis are not always that easy to find in the town. There are a few restaurants but all are extortionately priced for the quantity and quality of the food. There is nothing near by so you have no choice...town (cost of taxi) or high priced food. During the day we struggled to find food we wanted as we only wanted snacks not full buffet meals. The rooms were of good quality and the bathrooms were nice, but nothing spectacular or amazing. Service was average. The hotel is fine if you get a good deal and are prepared to travel and/or pay high prices.
Gorgeous views
We just returned from a business/pleasure trip to Dolce Sitges. We had no problems with our shuttle service from the airport (30 minutes away). They were waiting for us at the other side of customs. Check-in was delayed as we arrived before check-in time and had to wait about 20 minutes. The room was average, well decorated, very clean, and had a balcony overlooking the Sea with two chairs and a table on the balcony. We had no trouble procuring a taxi or shuttle from the hotel to the beach area. Nor did we have any problems procuring a taxi from restaurants in Sitges back to Dolce Sitges. The food at Dolce Sitges was ample and very good. A bit steep in the pricing for a la carte dinner but they bent over backwards for us to provide what we wanted in the way of salads, cold drinks, etc. Of course, there were a few of the staff who were not too speedy when we needed a table cleaned and set-up for breakfast. But on the whole, we found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. The rooms were secure but we really missed the "peek hole" in the door. It would be nice to know who is knocking on the other side of the door before opening it. The water pressure was quite ample. They provide a hot water pot for instant coffee or tea and a mini fridge with water, soft drinks, and beer. There were four pools and plenty of lounge chairs. Service at the pool restaurant was a bit slow. Nobody seems to move very fast, it is hot and humid there. If you have a room overlooking the central lawn I would recommend packing ear plugs as the rooms don't have very good sound softening. The Spanish begin their evening about 10PM (dinner) and party til at least 3 AM. Also there were ignorant people in the hall who spoke very loudly in the wee hours of the morning when others were trying to sleep.
Stay at Dolce Sitges in June 2006
My wife and I stayed for a weekend in June 2006 at Dolce Sitges. I had been in the hotel before in a business meeting and I really liked it so I decided to give it a try for a romantic week-end. It's a fantastic hotel that it's located in a hill next to the golf course. It's very convenient for a short break, relaxing in the pool area or the spa. If you're looking for a hotel in the middle of the action that Sitges provides, for sure Dolce Sitges is not your choice ! We booked for dinner at Esmarris Restaurant (à la carte). It has a wonderful location (in the summer months) overlooking Sitges town and golf course creating a unique atmosphere. Food is very good but be aware it's a grastronomic restaurant (i.e. nouvelle cuisine). 80€ (100$ per person). Our room was not very big, extremelly well decorated (minimalist with plasma TV) but very nice with views of the Mediterranean sea. Buffet is quite generous and can be taken in the terrace of the hotel. Overall, we enjoyed our week-end at Dolce but it's true that it's a hotel quite business oriented but if you want to relax and enjoy astonishing views, it's definitely your hotel.
Never a five star!
I have just stayed at this hotel for 5 nights for a work conference. It is probably the worst 5 star hotel I have ever stayed in for several reasons. Firstly, it is located a good 45 minutes walk from Sitges town centre and the main part of the beach but only provides a shuttle bus at the weekends. We tried to get a taxi on several occasions but found that we had to order one, and were always waiting for the ones we had ordered (55 mins for one). I would have thought that a 5 star hotel would have a 'special' relationship with a local taxi firm to ferry customers to and from the town. Secondly, having asked for a non-smoking room I was put into one that smelt of smoke. I asked for someone to sort it out and a lady came in with a spray, sprayed the curtains and left. So I asked to me moved. An hour later after numerous phone calls I was given another room. Thirdly, there were virtually no facilities to have drinks by the pool and no food available at all. We were told that food wasn't allowed by the pool, yet one evening we had a company BBQ by the pool! When we did order a few drinks they took 30 minutes to arrive. We all complained on the first day, but nothing improved until our own conference organisers arrived and 'took over'. We were offered some 'nibbles' of cheese and chocolate in our rooms which I really wished I had eaten as it was still sitting in my room until the day of my departure. This would be a perfectly good hotel if one wasn't expecting 5 star service and facilities. It is certainly not value for money!
Management response from Margreet-DolceSitges 20 Jun 2007

Dear Clerr, I am taking the liberty to still reply to your made comments. As Dolce Sitges is a recently opened hotel we know that there is room for improvement and we are open for the comments of our clients. After the summer of 2006, Dolce Sitges has decided to improve the service at the pool side by making a small poolbar from where we serve drinks and small snacks. This will enable the guests to order the drinks at the bar directly and enjoy some small snacks. We hope that this adjustment will improve the quality of stay for our guests in the future. I would like to thank you for your comments posted on tripadvisor and would like to state that any suggestions and or comments are welcome.

for conferences only
We were here for a conference but decided to come a few days early. The hotel looks great and the rooms are modern and have everything you could want. But if you look under the surface things fall apart. They gave me a nice room overlooking the pool but the aircon didn't work Afterseveral trips by the engineer to fix it and 2 nights sleeping in a sauna they finally moved me.2 of our party had to ask to move because the no smoking rooms they were in stunk of smoke. All requests to move were met with resistance. The taxi situation into Sitges was unbelievable. We constantly had to wait an hour to get one and that was prebooking them a day in advance. Because the hotel is a conference place you are ignored as individual gueasts. No one at the pool to take drink orders etc.The service in the poolside bar for food was shocking 1 1/2 hrs to get your order! My advice stay in a hotel in Sitges not this one.
Corporate or resort
We booked a week in Dolce in August 2005, on discount rates, based on the good looks of the hotel in Internet. Minor inconvenience is that the hotel is really situated far away from everything except a good looking golf course. Advantage of that is the calm, the very nice view of Sitges bay and town. You will need a car. At times, one of the receptionist will take you down to Sitges, and avoid you the car park fee. But it drops you at the very end of the beaches, closest to Dolce, some 3-4 kms to the town center, and the pick-up times are seldom. Another inconvenience is that the rooms are distributed in a weird way, and it is usually, unless you are lucky, a good time of walking to leave or return to the hotel. The restaurant is highly dispensable, except for breakfasts. And too expensive, anyway. Most of the times the gourmet restaurant will be closed. This underlines the major flaw of this hotel: it is not geared to a holiday clientele. I assume it is best suited to corporate events of a few days, although some of the comments say the contrary. So the staff is neither sufficient during the holiday period, nor very welcoming, the services are really minimal. Good thing is that you may go wherever you please, no question of charging for using the parking lot of the internet access at the business center: no one will ever find you there, there is no one there. Overall the atmosphere is too cold and business-like, although the furniture and design is quite high quality. It is like trying to live in a glossy coffee table magazine. You would have expected something else in such a vivid and charming resort as Sitges. For the gay-shy, it is quite a shelter since no party boy could live long in that atmosphere; but then maybe those party boys are right, after all. There is a disco in view though: it is so far, you only see some oe the lights and get no noise at all. So it is not really bad value for money. But is certainly is disheartening for a holiday, and you will have to make frequent trips to Sitges, just to see life.
Quiet luxury
The hotel was absolutely beautiful and peaceful. Our room was overlooking the Mediterranean and was very large and expertly appointed with a large terrace. It could not have been nicer. The morning buffet was also fantistic--huge variety of local specialities and everthing fresh, fresh, fresh. The staff at the hotel was very friendly and always helpful. We enjoyed the free internet access in the business center to check on our kids back home. After each day in Barcelona, we enjoyed the quiet luxury of Dolce Sitges. Sitges is a fun little resort town as well.
Great hotel
We spent a week here in June with two children 8 and 11 years. Best hotel in Sitges. New,wonderful modern interior design, clean, friendly staff, fantastic pool area, spacious air conditioned interconnecting rooms with nice balconies pool view. Location 2 miles out of town on golf course so car is essential (shuttle bus as advertised is a ruse).Excellent breakfast buffet.Downside : Kids palates not catered for at all in restaurant or lunch bar. We did'nt mind however as we took off to town to eat every evening - great selection of restaurants. Specialises in business conventions so tendancy to ignore regular guests however most business guests are gone on trips during the day so hotel in nice and quiet and plenty of space at pool(lifeguard). Nice shops, restaurants and beach in Sitges - good all round family destination and no worries about the gays. Will return.
Just go to relax
Having read all the reviews I was a little bit worried about how it might be but the hotel is lovely, the pools are gorgeous and clean with a great long pool for swimming lengths, towls are there and the setting is just perfect.. BUT - there is no food by the pool and my b/f had to really argue with the manager (!) to get some drinks brought to us. If a place is setting itself up as a five star resort then it has to deliver 5 star service and the Dolce doesn't but then breakfast was fine and we never eat in hotels so the lack of pool snacks was our only real moan. I had a lovely pedicure and then a massage and algae wrap which was very smelly but good for me.. I guess. The pool facing rooms are much nicer than the sea facing ones as you have the sun most of the day and a lovely view of the golf course. Difficult to get taxies down to the town but we shared with whoever was also waiting but do give yourself extra time. They are looking into providing their own cars to get you into town but don't hold your breath for that. I had a lovely weekend and it was very relaxing, Sitges is a fun place and excellent for watching all those guys pass by!! Mr and Mrs Smith
