" The place that makes you come back for more "

After a week-long family holiday at Miramare Beach in Moraitika all we wanted was to come back again for more in the near future.
The accomodation was absolutely fantastic. We were given a room in the old wing of the hotel among the German and Austrian tourists. The UK tourists were mostly hosted across the road in the new wings. Still we were glad to be hosted in the old rooms because the view was spectacular. We just had to open the door and jump into the sea. The food was always tasty and plenty of it, still there were just 2 or 3 greek food dishes during our stay there.
Overall, the hotel is very clean and we didn't really care about the 5 star advertised and 3 stars actual rating because we knew from our tour operator that the Greek stars rating system is slightly different from other western countries. The TV set had to be persuated to display the image by moving the antenna cable from time to time.
If you're concerned about the wasps then you should definitely go there in June. We didn't really see any of them during our stay. As other people said, the red light at the pedestrian crossing between the 2 wings of the hotel does not mean a thing for the Greek drivers, but many of the cars are rented and driven by tourists and you can have the pleasant surprise to actually see a car stopping and allowing you to safely cross the street.
The location is great. We rented a car and made a tour of the island to find that our location was the best among the ones we visited. We should definitely go back again to Miramare Beach.

Advice: Lovely town, relaxing atmospfere

Activities: Corfu Town by day and by night, short boat trips to visit the south beaches

Good for: Beach

" Welcome to Faulty Towers! Just... "

Welcome to Faulty Towers! Just returned from holiday in Corfu. Calimera Miramare Beach & Spa Hotel in Moraitika was advertised as 5 star, this is definitely more like a 3 star. The food was NEVER hot and seemed to be recycled every day. Our cocktails on the roof terrace were served in plastic vending machine cups and tasted like washing up liquid. Accommodation was reasonable apart from the sewage smell from the drain in our bathroom which filled the whole of our accommodation, and the shower flooded every time. We felt as British we were excluded to some extent as obviously they were catering for German population at the resort. The hotel was advertised with a private beach - there was no beach the sea came up to the sea wall. With the exception of one or two staff, they were generally very "off-ish" and clearly not enjoying their work. On the plus side, the hotel is in a lovely location and the grounds, gardens and sea views were lovely. Just a shame they don't make more effort with the food and drinks for their All Inclusive customers.

" We went to the Miramare hotel as our... "

We went to the Miramare hotel as our other hotel was fully booked and this was the alternative and I have to say never have we had such a relaxing holiday.
We were in the new part of the hotel, which is were I think they put the English with the Germans in the old part, the rooms were nice, not large but good for what you need i.e shower change and sleep... The pools were lovely and even when busy there was still loads of room for people to swim, inflatables were allowed in the pools which was good for the kids.
The food was lovely and even though sometimes was the same there was so much choice that it didn't matter and lets face it not everyone has something different every night of the week two weeks on the trot!!
The kids loved the entertainment which was mostly in German although they did speak english as well, but to be honest we sat at the back of the roof garden and chatted whilest the kids watched the show, after the show had finished it was like a mass evacuation for the germans and they all bundled out which left us brits..

Everyone is very friendly on the English side and everyone spoke to each other, and the kids made so many friends so they were never bored..
And we can't all tar the germans with the same brush there were some lovely ones there that were polite and friendly towards everyone, in fact our daughter is writing to one family...
Would recommend for a nice relaxing..HOT holiday

" I have just got back from the... "

I have just got back from the Miramare. I paid £600 for 2 weeks all inclusive and I wasn’t disappointed.

I stayed in the new part across the road from the restaurant and the beach. The rooms were very clean and a lovely lady came everyday except Sunday to do the rooms and she was fab. If we wanted to stay in bed late she came again later. Free air-con and a balcony that looked down at the pool and fantastic views of the sea, and you could even see Greece from your room.

The pools are really clean on both sides and there are enough sunbeds for everyone. The all inclusive bar serves all drinks and 4 cocktails and even though they say the all inclusive stops at 11pm we still got drinks up until 12pm and past.

The food was good; some people did complain there wasn’t enough variation but there are only so many things you can cook. They had at least 2 different meats and a fish dish everyday and they would do at least one greek specialty like mousakka or stifado. The salads were great, you couldn’t ask for a more varied salad. About once a week they did a bbq on the beach with a hog roast chicken and kebab - so while you are getting your food you look straight out at the ocean - brilliant and there is always enough food to go round, they don’t run out.

Entertainment was mostly in German but they did a lot of singing and dancing which was funny and entertaining. Whilst we were there, they did ‘We will rock you’ the musical, Elizabeth an Austrian musical and lots more. They also had activities in the day – volleyball, water polo, tennis, dance lessons and they had a kids club. The girl who looked after the kids seemed to be doing a fab job and all the kids loved her. Even though the animation team are German they are fluent in many languages and get everyone involved.

There is only one bad thing I can say and that is the wasps. That is no reflection on the hotel at all, the wasps are everywhere you go. I did not get stung but my partner got stung once but it didn’t really bother him. The best advice I can give is try to ignore them and you forget they are there eventually. Also try not to leave drinks and cups of coffee lying about, drink them and then take the cups back to the bar to keep the wasps away.

Moriatika town has a quiet night life. My partner and I are 24 so we were looking for something a bit more lively, but it wasn’t that bad, good for couples and kids.

I would recommend restaurants - Bella Vista which is up in the hills and the Rose Gardens. These are the best restaurants and bars. You must go to Buddies Bar. Yes, this is a football bar really but the owner and staff are so welcoming and friendly and my partner supports Derby County and they showed all the games at our request. Brilliant.

All in all, a brilliant holiday I would recommend it.

" We got to the Miramare Beach Hotel... "

We got to the Miramare Beach Hotel after arriving at the hotel we had originally booked - the Veronica Hotel Apartments (15 minutes up the road), which was so awful that I can't even put it into words.

However, everything about the Miramare was the complete opposite; a lovely hotel, tastfully decorated, very clean, and every member of staff we met was very friendly, polite and helpful. It is also situated right in front of the sea, so that you can choose to eat at one of the outside tables at meal times while looking out onto the ocean. Beautiful.

Our room was excellent too, air conditioned and cleaned every day but Sundays, although we were given sets of clean towels every single day. We were in the newer building of the hotel (across the road from the original) but this did not matter whatsoever. It is a 30 second walk across the road, and yes, Greek drivers are insane, but there is a pedestrian crossing, and we had no problems crossing at all.

We visited 2 of the 3 pools throughout our stay: the pool next to our building (very big and clean) and the 'Quiet Pool' (a 2 minute walk to the left from the restaurant area across the road).
This one was a good size and clean too, set next to the sea, and a bit more relaxing as ball games and diving etc are not allowed.

This area was spoilt only a couple of times by a few ignorant families who let their children run around shouting and jumping in to splash people, but after telling the people at reception, they were asked to keep it down and it was all fine.

There were 3 of us on holiday for 10 days and we all found the food excellent... a wide selection and always delicious. It only gets repetitive if you choose to eat a bit of everything every day. It can be as varied as you want it to be.

The drinks at the bars were also good, and although we were slightly disappointed to find that cocktails such as Pina Coladas are not included in the 'all-inclusive', there are 4 cocktails that are (as well as the usual spirits, beer and wine), amongst which I can recommend the Singapore Sling and the Ferrari.

The entertainment each night was mostly in German, but most of it was also translated, and while it wasn't particularly amazing, we just found it funny.

Various problems people have referred to in past reviews perplex me. I cannot fault the resort, and have to conclude that they must have simply acted on these things and resolved them over the last year.

" We have just returned from a... "

We have just returned from a fantastic week at the Miramare Beach. Having booked independently and then deciding to read the reviews, we were a bit concerned but if you are the same, then do not worry.

We arrived at 2am and was greeted by very friendly staff who offered us sandwiches and coffee. We were in the complex above the road as most people have stated but the porter took both our cases and was very friendly.

The room was very clean and maid service every day except one when there was a general strike in Corfu. I cannot explain the view and even the pics I took do not do it full justice.

Sure you have to cross the road, but this is not half as bad as some would make out.

All the staff are friendly and the choice of food is very good. If you are hoping for Fish chips and mushy peas or roast beef and Yorkshires swilled down with a warm beer then give it a miss, and try Blackpool or Torquay, otherwise I think you cannot fail to have a good time if you are not rigid in your expectations.

There IS a beech it just is not white sand and is 12mtrs from the end of the hotel. the pool is fantastic and the spirits are on a par with Supermarket own brands.

The restaurant is set right by the sea and it is fantastic to sit there and listen to the waves. There were no wasps at all but in fairness it was May that could be different later.

Yes there are Germans and the entertainment crew are German. They are very friendly and although we were in the minority we were included in everything, and candidly reflect that it would be very unlikely the same would be true if the situation was reversed.

The other plus is that because it is not a usual resort for Brits. Transfers are by taxi so you are in your room 20 mins after leaving the airport.

Enjoy your holiday!!!

" The Hotel is very clean and situated... "

The Hotel is very clean and situated in a nice area with good sea views.

I felt the food was satisfactory even though I did notice that many children had to settle for chips most days due to the lack of verity to their tastes. Waiters were not too friendly and could not get you out of the dinning room quick enough. (I.e. when you leave the table to get your sweet your find your table is cleared and new table cloth laid). Unless you’re the first in the restaurant you will find you will have to look around for your own cutlery.

Rooms are kept very clean, fresh towels and sheets every day.

The swimming pools are nice with fancy water fountains, although there was an electric light floating on the water throughout the duration of the holiday.

Many people were bitten by mosquitoes by the beach and yes there are plenty of wasps.

The local shops and restaurants are very good and the people very friendly.

The road between the 2 blocks of the hotel is very dangerous with respect to children. Vehicles will pass though the red light on the crossing at excess speed of which I witnessed, as well as seeing a 3 car pile up out side the hotel.

The entertainment is all German (miming).

Overall I enjoyed my holiday.

" After booking the hotel through an... "

After booking the hotel through an internet travel agent I was concerned to read some or the reviews posted on this site. However after just returning from a marvelous week at the hotel I felt compelled to submit some comments.

The location of the hotel was superb with a choice of 5 bars at the time we went. The local spirits including brandy were very good with no half measures or restrictions on the number per person. The food was very varied and well cooked with a specialist chef at lunch and evening meals. We took our children and they found more than plenty to eat. There are no snacks between main courses but this stops you from over indulging. Yes there is a fairly busy road separating the 2 halves of the hotel but is no busier than a typical British road with good visibility of approaching traffic. The fact that there were 2 halves to the hotel felt like a 2 centered holiday. Around the pool in the morning, swimming off the jetty in the warm sea in the afternoon!

Rooms and maid service very good as were the staff in general. They respond well if you try and exchange a few words in their language.

Only reason I have not given 10 stars is the local town of Moratakia which is a shanty town. However take time to visit the old town above on a hill with fantastic views. I would definitely go again but hire a car next time as taxis are expensive and buses unreliable.

" We have just returned from a weeks... "

We have just returned from a weeks all inclusive in the Miramare beach. Our room was in the new part of the hotel, across the busy road from reception. The room was very, very clean, with clean towels every day and the view from the balcony was outstanding.

Our children were not with us on this holiday and all I can say is "thank goodness" as the safety of the children is a bit to be desired. As the hotel is split into 2 parts, it is definitely not safe for children of any age to cross the road alone, even although there is a crossing. The locals sometimes do not stop as witnessed on a few occasions. The other danger, being a floating light in the pool in the new block attached to wires for the whole duration of the holiday. Not safe for anyone.

The food in the hotel was really nice, and a wide variety was offered all the time. The only disappointing thing was that with previous all inclusive holidays, there were always snacks available all day long but not here. Again this is a draw back as no food available from lunch at 12.30 to dinner at 07.30pm.a whole 7 hours for a child is far too long. Not a problem for us, but if our kids there I could foresee a nightmare! The dinning room was nice but have to say the waiters not so nice, and cleared tables very quickly right under your nose. Not prepared to be slowed down in any way.

Reception staff very nice and most helpful.

Hotels4u rep Joanna was not helpful at all, in fact quite the opposite. Was very disappointed there. If you going to Corfu town or anywhere on the island be aware that the bus timetable given you need to be a mathematician to work out the exact time of the bus outside the hotel. (Rep failed to draw up correct bus time tables to suit guests which made it a nightmare to judge bus times).

Entertainment was ok but mostly in German as a lot of German guests in hotel.

Finally we had a relaxing holiday in the Miramare beach hotel, pleasant atmosphere, lots to drink and eat (only at certain times) and the small village of Moraitika was great. A special thank you to jimmy in jimmies taverna as he made us so welcome and food fab!

Would visit Corfu again with our kids this time, although would not stay in this hotel. Just worry as don’t think safe enough re road etc.

To anyone who has booked a holiday here, enjoy and do enjoy the views, the tours and the weather, just be aware that although there is a crossing, the cars will still speed past without stopping. Be vigilant for your children.

" Very nice clean and welcoming hotel.... "

Very nice clean and welcoming hotel. Two distinct hotel areas, the top (new) part with predominantly Brits staying here. The best of the two pools and without doubt the best view. The poolside did attract a lot of wasps but not one report of a sting in the week that we were there. With poolside bar, reception area, lounge, health spa and shop.

The lower and older part of the hotel was reached by crossing a road for which a light controlled crossing was used. With dining area, lounge, poolside bar, rooftop bar and main reception area. This was almost exclusively occupied by the German guests. The staff were hard working, friendly and helpful. The range, quality and service of the food was good.

The hotel was clean and everything was in good repair and in working order. Our group consisted of 8 adults (over 40's) and all agreed that the official 4 star rating was deserved and that we would be happy if all hotels proved to be as good as this one is.

" My family and I spent 7 nights at... "

My family and I spent 7 nights at this hotel. I was unsure about booking it at first as I had read some bad reports. I am glad we didn’t listen to the reports!

The room was clean. Staff very friendly.

Food more than acceptable (it must be difficult to cook for 2000+ guests who come from so many different countries. by all accounts the bad reports on food seemed to have been last year.

Beach outside the hotel is rubbish. There is no sand, just pebbles but a real nice beach about 5 mins walk Pools clean.

We had a really good time and would recommend this hotel to anyone. but its not 5 star as advised, its more like 3-4. But for £1100 we went on an all inclusive holiday for 3. Bargain!

" There appears to be something of a... "

There appears to be something of a segregation policy in place, with the Germans housed in the original part of the hotel (by the sea – there is no beach) and the Brits across the road in the new block.

Personally, I thought our accommodation was quite nice and we had by far the best pool. But there are a totally inadequate number of sun beds and parasols. The sun bed problem is just as bad in the gardens by the sea and exacerbated by (presumably German) people stacking four beds on their terraces and not using them all day.

The all-German activity / entertainment team promotes the kids club only around the old hotel, so the English kids feel excluded.

The wasps are a nuisance but not particularly aggressive. The hotel is set in very nice gardens of olive and fig trees and I think it’s the figs that attracted them in the first place. I don’t think there is much the hotel management can do about the problem.

The restaurant is in the old hotel, which is reached by crossing the dangerous main coastal road. They have installed a pedestrian crossing but the Greeks must be amongst the most inconsiderate drivers in Europe. Red light? So what?

I thought the food was generally quite good, if a little repetitive. But the restaurant seems under staffed. Only once, when we arrived at opening time, did we find a table for 4 already laid. The Germans behave as if they are frightened the food will run out, elbowing others out of the way and urgently shoveling as much on their plates as physically possible but often leaving half of it.

The evening “entertainment” is on the roof terrace of the old hotel. It is blatantly aimed at the Germans and is truly terrible.

We enjoyed our holiday but what seemed like minor niggles to begin with became major irritations after 2 weeks. I think it was reasonable value but take the star rating with a large pinch of salt.

Every English person I spoke to agrees with my opinion that this hotel should be open exclusively to Germans. Alternatively, build another restaurant in the new part and lay on some activities and entertainment on that side too.

" Just arrived back from a week’s... "

Just arrived back from a week’s holiday at the Miramare. Anyone who can give this holiday less than 6/10 is extremely fussy! The view alone from the balcony is enough to at least give it that!

Moraitika is beautiful, friendly people and great things to do. I’m 19 and my boyfriend’s 22 and we found plenty to do, although we did venture for one night in Kavos, only 30 mins away and is so different from Moraitkia but a great night out! Renting a quad bike is a must- they are not as dangerous as scooters and are great for finding new beaches and amazing sights from the nearby mountain, not to mention its great fun!

Only a few complaints are that the old guy on night reception is not very nice in my experience and the amount of wasps can be a pain, especially by the pool, we tended to drink by the sea area as there were less wasps bothering you and it was a more pleasant and relaxing view anyway.

Ok the food is not perfect and can get a little repetitive but if you eat out two or three of the nights its fine! The Miramare beach cocktail special was a favourite with us, you only need three or four and your sorted! It could have been a little more 'all inclusive' but I was not complaining as we did love the cocktails!

Room was very nice and I can not explain how good the view is. We also went on a beach day to Paleokastritsa which was amazing- I would definitely recommend it! Also did a coach tour of the Island which is very informative and interesting but I would have liked to have gone on the jeep safari which seems similar but with the sun and a faster ride!

Overall I have taken away some amazing memories from this holiday. It’s not a 5 star hotel but is still fantastic. I have so much more I could say and recommend but to sum up, great people, plenty to do in the day, fun nights, breath taking views and great taverna's and food. Corfu and Moraitkia is definitely a place to experience.

You will having an amazing time here if you are open minded like us and just looking for a enjoyable and great time, not for perfection!

" Have just come back from a fantastic... "

Have just come back from a fantastic holiday at the Miramare Beach. The pools are lovely and there was always plenty of sun beds throughout the day. Pools and pool area were very clean.

There are two sides to the hotel. On one side is the beach front location with small bungalows where there are two of the smaller pools, the main reception, bar and restaurant. On the other side of the road is the newer part of the hotel with the big pool. Yes there is a busy road to cross but we did not find this a problem at all as there is a pedestrian crossing directly outside the hotel reception. We were fortunate to get a bungalow just by the sea front. The location is stunning with every room in the hotel having a sea view.

The food was good and there was always plenty of choice. Had some lovely cocktails from the hotel bar. Would recommend the Ferrari!

Day trips out were fantastic especially a boat trip we took called the 'beach day'. Would also definitely recommend a visit to the old fortress in Corfu town - Amazing views.

The only downside to the whole holiday was the wasp problem but this was the case everywhere we went in Corfu.

" Having read some of the previous... "

Having read some of the previous comments I did have some concerns but most (but not all) proved to be un-warranted / over exaggerated or just complaining for complainings sake. My unbiased comments:

The location is close to the horrible Benidorm style tavernas and bars of Moraitika and Melonghi but at 10mins walk away it's far enough not to hear or see in the dead of night. Take the trouble to explore. There's a Lagoon and 12km sandy beach on the other side of the Island ( 4 mile walk ), Corfu town ( Use the town bus ! 1.8E ) is wonderful and the North has breathless views. And unlike the other Greek Islands there's loads of greenery. Wear a Crash helmet if hiring a bike. We saw 1 serious crash and 2 near misses! They're crazy on the road.

The Hotel is split by a very busy main road with a pelican crossing on and footpath under construction (still take care though because the Greek are crazy drivers). The lower half right next to the sea and no beach is a mixture of new and slightly dated bungalows but set in beautiful gardens together with a modern restaurant and reception with views over the sea and Greece to die for.

Rooms are clean but more like an English 3 star. Food is not burgers and beans but more typically Mediterranean so if you've brought your kids up fussy forget it! There is a huge selection of good food but after a week can become a little repetitive but there again twice a week they do a beach BBQ or theme night. Talking of which the staff are great, providing you take the trouble to learn a few words.

The Hotel is dominated by Germans and Yes they do pinch the sun beds but are very friendly if you take the trouble! There is a small problem with wasps - if they bother you then just eat inside! We did spot 2 cats but they were hardly begging. We saw no rats as one report said and the bins were frequently emptied. There's not much to do in the evening apart from chill, drink (local plonk is good - try it !) and play cards. There is a disco come bar upstairs but really that's more for the small kids. This is not a Hotel for teenagers - It's quiet! Wow - wonderful!

The upper, new posh Hotel part above the road is more like a traditional Hotel block but with at least some style. There's very little here apart from rooms, reception, one pool and bar, free Gym and chargeable Jacuzzi / indoor pool. We only used the Gym.

In short we had a thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable Holiday here. Yes we would go back. If you like the nightlife this is not the place for you. Next time I'd try the NW of the island as this is a little more picturesque.
