Hotel Calipolis Reviews

10 / 10
Aug 2004, Mrs A Haslam

My daughter (24) and I had a most enjoyable holiday at the Calipolis in Sitges, all the staff were very friendly and helpful. We made good use of the swimming pool which overlooked the sea, it is only 3 euros for a sunbed and an umbrella, and for a returnable deposit of 10... more

Loved the breakfast buffet
Stayed for 3 nights Easter (Holy) week, refurbishments still not finished even though I had emailed hotel and they assured me they would be. Temp. entrance down steps through bar. Room very nice, clean, spacious with a side view of the sea. Lots of noise from adjoining rooms, could hear footsteps and furniture moving. Mirador restaurant really nice with fantastic breakfast, could even have Bucks Fizz. Very nice feel to the place, in a quiet part of Sitges but close enough to walk to everything. In spite of a few niggling complaints I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone. Once building work completed (which it probably is by now) will have a nice new reception and entrance and a swimming pool.
Still Good Hotel - However, Major Construction @ Present !!
bHave stayed at this hotel many times and have always had a great stay. IT IS STILL A VERY GOOD HOTEL - However, when I stayed last week (Feb 4 thru Feb 9 2005 - for "mardi gras/carnival" the entire ground floor has been gutted to allow for the construction of a new bar & restaurant area on the ground floor. The reception area is also having a major facelift. There is also a swimming pool being installed on what was the main terrace by the front door. Temporary entrance to the hotel is @ side of building down steep steps so beware if you have any mobility/disability problems. Not too sure when all this construction will be finished but it looked as if it would take several months - probably thru the summer ?!? Check with hotel or agent if in doubt. Please do this because I was NOT INFORMED of any of major construction to this hotel prior to my stay !!
Helpful staff, lovely sea view and good breakfast
I went with a relative to the Calipolis for a long weekend at the end of October and I was very pleased with the hotel. Each of us had booked for a single room, but we were very pleasantly surprised when we were each given a sizeable double room. In the past, I have had bad experience (in France and in Malta, for example) of single rooms the size of small dog kennels, so this was a welcome relief. My relative was robbed in Barcelona on our first day, and the staff did everything they could to help her cancel her bank cards and go through all the formalities that are necessary for the insurance claim. They were very helpful. The high point of my stay were the breakfasts each morning, particularly the cakes and very chocolatey chocolate croissants. Worth getting up for. The location is good for the beach but a bit far from the centre of town. However, the whole experience would have been very relaxing, if it hadn't been for the robbery, and I would be pleased to go back one day.
The Calipolis is Great!
My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon and we loved it! We found it to be a perfect location. The 'downtown' area with all the shops and restaurants was within 5 mins walking distance, yet the hotel itself wasn't right in the thick of things. The hotel is right on the beach and there was great people watching from the balcony. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The rates were very reasonable for a four star hotel. Granted we stayed there off season (end of Sept/beginning of Oct), but we got a rate of 67 Euros per night for a room with a balcony. It was very clean and well kept up. We thought the breakfast buffet was a little spendy for what you got, but the hotel itself was really cool. I highly recommend it!
Calipolis was very nice
We stayed at the Calipolis from Oct. 2-9th immediately following a week long Med cruise. We were looking for rest and relaxation along with a few sightseeing days through the country side and Bacelona. First the hotel. It was very nice, clean and pretty comfortable considering we had single beds. Our room included breakfast. Be sure to get the breakfast included it is well worth it. This is not just a continental but full breakfast buffet, I would have to say it was excellent. The staff was always pleasant and helpfull. The only negative was the noise level at night. We heard trucks and dogs barking every night. Not enough to keep us awake but it was something that was not expected. The hotel is in a very nice area close to Barcelona (20 min. by train) We also visited a winery which took us to the country side. Within walking is the beach (very nice) across the street, and shops and eating establishment a plenty. Some of the better ones we frequented, were the La Pinta, Viking (great cappuccino for 1.70euros) and Santa Maria (which was crowded every day). Actually there are so many rest. you can eat at a different place everyday for weeks. Now if you can get direction, Cal Xim was a very intesresting restaurant. Its located in the middle on nowhere, but we had to wait an hour to get a table, oh but the wine made the wait worthwhile. Or try Calxim for directions. All in all our stay at the Calipolis was excellent and if in that area again we would not hesitate to rebook. PS, try using Alpha-beds they had the best rate by far.
Calipolis, The Best In Sitges
I can't understand the bad reviews of this property, we have just returned from spending 2 weeks there. We found all the staff polite and friendly especially the bar staff. The breakfasts were excellent with a wide variety of hot (yes really hot including the scrambled egg) and cold food. The dining room was light and airy and offered the same spectacular views which we enjoyed from our spotlessly clean bedrooms. The lack of a pool is not a great problem as one of the worlds biggest (The Med) is just across the road. We have already decided that we will be going back to the calipolis.
Good Hotel, Great location
I was surprised to read some of the negative reviews of this hotel. Actually, there is a pool which is just a few steps across the street at the Club del Mar. It's beautiful and right on the beach. The rooms are very clean, modern, and have all the regular ammenities that you would expect from a 4-star. I've stayed here twice and will definately go again.
WARNING
There is no security at this hotel. My partner and I stayed for 5 nights in August. Six of us were on the patio enjoying a quiet drink. We were approached by 3 female gypsies who hassled us for money. They were extremely abusive. When they had gone my partner realised his mobile phone had been stolen. We immediately approached Management and staff who were simply NOT interestedand said we shouldn't have been sitting outside at 4pm in the afternoon. Letters to the hotel have been totally ignored.
Basic
I am a little stunned by some of the positive reviews of this hotel on this site. We found the hotel to be adequate, but extremely basic. A glorified motel. Given the price of 150 euros a night, this was simply not good enough. Also, the attitude of the staff was awful. We made our reservation in January (for a September stay) and requested a sea view. We did not get one - and the rationale given by the manager was that our e-mail reservation merely "requested" and did not "require" a sea view. Also, on our last night we requested late check-out, and we were given until 2pm the next day. On the day of departure we received a very rude call at noon asking why we were still in the room. The front desk has a little red book for recording late check-outs, but ours was not recorded.
Awful
I stayed here in August. Staff were arrogant and unhelpful. The room was noisy, small and not very clean. A lot of noise came from outside the hotel until about 4 in the morning.
