Hotel was fine, great location next...
8 / 10
Aug 2007, Mrs A Coles

Hotel was fine, great location next to a beautiful beach. Food was good something for everyone. Lots of steps so may not suit everyone ,found all hotel staff friendly.
Enjoyed the entertainment but drinks served in small plastic cup not a major problem just needed to go up to the bar more often. My children loved the waterpark, a bit basic but free to guests.
Portinatx was very small resort not very much happening very quiet.
Only complaint which was not down to hotel was we booked a Thomson trip, the castaway. The sea was very rough within 30 mins half the passengers were really ill, also when we got off boat we had to climb up a cliff to the restaurant for lunch which most people could not eat.
We had to be returned to hotel by coach as the sea was so rough the trip was a total rip off.
51 Euros to be sick on the boat given lunch and driven back to hotel when everyone complained to reps they didn’t want to know, very arrogant just saying wasn’t there fault for bad weather etc. About 100 people complained they did offer 20 % refund but not many people took them up.
Seems they only want to sell you these extras not deal with any problems, luckily we only had 1 day left but it did spoil the holiday abit with their attitude.

El Greco – great family budget sun...
5 / 10
Aug 2007, Mr G May

El Greco – great family budget sun location.
Step back in time to the late 1980s and the El Greco will please you – they have kept the old world charm and updated to an authentic all inclusive 3 star standard.
The food was below adventurous however it was well presented; cost savings are seen on the menu with the minimalist use of local ingredients. If you can think of the food as an energy source that soaks up and makes up for the extreme low quality alcoholic beverages you will enjoy what the chef creates.
If you are an egg and chips, and Imodium traveller you will love the food. My top tip would be to use the meal options to supplement local higher quality restaurants that as always suffer when an all inclusive hotel sits on the door step.
I would recommend the Don Quixote restaurant that is located across the bay near the back of the square. They produce high quality food, or even down on the sea front you will find beach restaurants that offer fresh dishes.
I have to say that you become accustomed and acclimatised to watery drinks in plastic cups – shame they don’t recycle the cups with the same enthusiasm they use on some of the food. I’ve never had vodka myself that fails to make you fall over after twenty cups.
The bar staffs are well trained in pouring plastic drinks in mass – the customer has to buy a plastic Frisbee to carry the plastic cups back to a table as no bar trays are available.
For an authentic Ibiza bar experience I would recommend Vincent’s in the square – you will get a decent international brand of alcohol that makes the walk worthwhile. The walk from El Greco to the square takes in the famous cardiac hill – many a traveller can be seen reaching for heart medication or inhalers after the climb. You will see that the El Greco does not cater for the less ambient traveller, or push chairs – infants will learn to walk.
On the subject of infants and children this complex is very safe – the ASBO styled youths will soon find the kids clubs are not for them – they will find friends and then learn to hunt in packs – the top tip is to keep a pocket of Euros so they can go and use the internet.
I would congratulate the animation team who deliver a package of killer darts, killer pool, killer dancing, killer pool events – guess killer is some form of localised method of creating entertainment that relieves the pressure sores of the holiday makers who never move from the sun beds they have woken at 7am in order to lay towels on.
I have never agreed with this German method of alienation – why can’t you just use the sun beds and then give others a chance – the Spanish owners say that the sun beds are not owned by the holiday campers, however nobody has the guts to collect the place marker towels and throw them in the pool – as a well travelled customer of Thomson they have a role to play in educating the rude towel layers.
The Thomson trips as always are overpriced even though they take you and bring you back – this complex is located in the north of the island – the local bus runs on a manana basis however the well maintained air conditioned modern radio taxis are a better transport option. Several guests never left the complex which is a real shame for the local; economy which is reliant on custom and the money you spend.
Local amenities include Boozy Buys in the square – this is the best place to get money exchange and a cold can of John Smiths – top tip get a bottle of wine and put in the fridge as you sit outside Buys – meet the locals and enjoy the “happy hour” experience.
To sum up this epic review – El Greco was a break from routine however the hotel is governed by a routine of the “ant” campers moving when the bar shuts or when the food areas open – individuality was hard to find however you make your own choices and also your own decisions – I reckon you will either love or hate the El Greco dependent on your outlook – is the plastic glass half full or half empty?

We stayed at the El Greco for 2...
9 / 10
Aug 2007, Miss S Hamblin

We stayed at the El Greco for 2 weeks. We had a fantastic time. The resort is very quiet and we thought when we arrived it was going to be too quiet as we are a young couple, but we made great friends and I would recommend going to Vincents Bar as its open till 3am and is very lively. However I would recommend hiring a car to see other parts of the Island.
The hotel its self was very nice and our hotel room was lovely looking out over the sea. It was very clean and the maids were very good and came in everyday.
The food was very good with a wide variety to choose from. They have show cooking on every night which has a meat and also fish. All the food for the whole 2 weeks was lovely with lots to choose!!
The pool was a little on the small side with it being peak time there were lots of children playing, but on an overall basis it was very nice and very clean.
The entertainment was a little basic as they provide there own so some nights it was really good and other nights it wasn't. The day time activities were very good and the 2 girls that run it are lovely Patricia and Cindy - there were very friendly and by the end of the holiday they became friends.
Overall I really enjoyed my stay at El Greco and I would go back!

Jul 2007, Mrs R Major

The hotel itself is spotless the maids are cleaning 24 hours a day. Rooms very very basic but clean, family room is really only suitable for 2 adults and 1 child, we were a family of 4 and it was really cramped.
Hotel location excellent about 45 steps to beach not suitable for people with walking difficulties and extremely hard work with a pushchair. Staff were really nice and couldn’t do enough for you.
The food was all inclusive and is really repetitive the children’s menu is a joke, if you have a toddler or a child under 4, I have to warn you the food just isn’t suitable, my 2 year old lived off rice pudding for 2 weeks, there is a spar about 5 mins away though where you can buy baby food.
The water park needs a makeover it was really rundown and in need of a good clean and paint, but it was an added bonus as you will struggle to get round the pool at the hotel (unless you’re up at 6am to put a towel on sunbed),there is a slight smell of sewage around the pool area and waterpark and your bathroom can be a bit whiffy sometimes but it was only occasional.
I wouldn’t recommend the hotel if you have a child under 4 as there are no play areas and there are sheer drops all around the hotel, if your child is over 4 the kids club is great and the entertainment for kids is good, the evening entertainment was rubbish and it got worse by the day.
Overall the hotel is really clean but I feel it should only be a 2* rating, and as per usual there are the typical brits who want to give us all a bad name have to warn you there were quite a few unsavoury characters.
I wouldn’t recommend the hotel but the Presidente next door was really nice, Portinatx itself is beautiful and really clean and the people are really friendly, go to Portinatx but not the el Greco.

I have been home a week from El Greco...
9 / 10
Jul 2007, Mrs L Gregg

I have been home a week from El Greco and I wish we were still there. Myself, hubby and 2 year old all went and we had the best time ever.
Hotel - It is kept very clean with your bed sheets changed every day.
Staff - They all work very hard and never seem to stop. Jackie at reception is always smiling and bubbly, she couldn't do enough for you. Carmela the housekeeper was lovely and she always stopped and spoke to my daughter. Everybody seemed to enjoy their jobs.
Pool - Yes it isn't the biggest but it is more than adequate for us and there is a slight smell that comes and goes but it is what you get at any seaside resort that I have stayed in.
Food - There is always a good variety and plenty of it. A chef is always on hand ready to replenish any that has been out too long or nearly finished. The fresh fruit was a treat as well. My favourite was their steak pie.
Water park - It is just across from the hotel and it was a great way to spend the day. My husband and daughter loved the slides and the kids pool is larger here than at the hotel.
Overall it was well worth it and we will be back soon.

Jul 2007, Mrs J Giles

My rating is purely aimed at the hotel itself. Portinatx is a beautiful resort with lovely beaches and shallow clear waters. And the beach is where we spent our time!
The room for a family of four was far too small. It was only just big enough for the beds and we all slept in a row (not great for me and hubby).
The hotel was very clean and the food ok if you like English food abroad. The smell, however when we were there was very bad. It seemed to be there until after dark and I don't know how other people were able to sit in it all day which is why we stayed at the beach.
The all-inclusive feature wasn't the best either. The bar staff didn't speak to you and you couldn't take your drink onto the beach. Also you have to pay for your drinks between 11 & 12pm. I did a little experiment as the local vodka was shocking. I began ordering Smirnoff at E4.50 a time and also gave 50 cents tip. Well within one evening, I was being winked at by the staff, I jumped queues because I was giving them money, I had Smirnoff’s on the house and the measures were amazing. Unfortunately that’s not how it should be.
In all, I would not go back to El Greco. I have paid much less for much better!

We stayed at El Greco for 2 weeks in...
10 / 10
Jul 2007, Mrs S L Farrow

We stayed at El Greco for 2 weeks in June, 2007.
We had no complaints about this hotel apart from the rooms being a bit cramped when they had 4 beds in. The hotel was very clean, we had our rooms cleaned every day, and you could often see staff cleaning around.
The food was excellent and there was plenty to choose from - you could choose from pizzas, pastas, fish, salads and much more.
The hotel has a great location on the beach and we spent every day on it and although you are not allowed to take food and drink out of the hotel we managed to.
The night-time entertainment was not up to much but the kids took advantage of the daytime activities - playing table tennis, beach football, pool, and darts. Another bonus of this hotel is the waterpark - right on the doorstep and totally free of charge.
The all-inclusive at this hotel finishes at 11pm and this was a little too early it would really benefit from finishing later.
All in all we had a great time and would have no problem recommending this hotel.

We stayed two weeks all inclusive in...
7 / 10
Jul 2007, Mr D Allan

We stayed two weeks all inclusive in June. We found the hotel to be very clean but the room we had for a family of four was very small.
Plenty to do for kids so that made us happy. The only down side was the restaurant staff that seem to usher you to tables you don’t want to sit at and clean your table as soon as you put your glass or knife and fork down.
Entertainment was picking up as we left as they have a new guy in charge and overall was good. Waterpark was basic but ideal for young children small slides etc.
One small point to note is theEel Greco smell that drifts across in the evening beware!

Jun 2007, Mr Steve M

Just got back from 2 weeks at El Greco and loved it. Have been there before and wondered if things had deteriorated when I read some of the poor reviews posted here. However, nothing has changed and we had a fantastic time.
There is a grain of truth in many of the criticisms that have been made but nothing seriously detracted from the quality of our holiday.
Room was small for a family of four but it was clean and we didn't spend much time there anyway. The food was fantastic. It is not haute cuisine but it was good quality and plentiful. Entertainment was not great but what little we saw of it was ok.
Only went to the water park a few times and it was good fun. Kids preferred to play on the beach which is absolutely fantastic with pedelo’s, kayaks, waterskiing, zodiac hire etc at reasonable prices.
It’s not the best hotel I have ever been to but El Greco is very good value for money. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to go there again.

Jun 2007, Mrs K L

Just arrived home from a fantastic week at El Greco.
My 3 and 5 year old loved the Kid's Club which was absolutely age appropriate and gave us 2 hours to ourselves most days. The Mini disco for the children each night was great too.
Spent most of our time at the water park which suited us perfectly - there is a lovely small pool with a slide which kept them entertained all week.
The food was fantastic and there really was something for everyone. The room was small but clean with a balcony and a very nice bathroom.
The TV was all in Spanish but we took a portable DVD player which was ideal.
A really good holiday!!

We have just come back last night...
9 / 10
May 2007, Mrs R Bowes

We have just come back last night from the El Greco from a fortnight's holiday, and after reading some of the reviews on here like others, I was very worried thinking we were going to some grotty smelly hole, this couldn't be further from the truth.
The hotel rooms were basic but spacious with a TV that had cartoon network (my 6 year old was delighted!) the rooms were cleaned and the beds changed every day the staff work tirelessly to keep the grounds clean and tidy.
The swimming pool was small but clean and plenty of sunbeds and with the beach being just down the steps (which aren't as bad as many people say) it was fantastic.
The water park too was clean and tidy, and yes, it probably is getting a bit old but it isn't dangerous, and provides hours of fun for kids and adults alike.
The food was brilliant too, plenty of choice and served nearly all day long, although by the end of two weeks I was getting ready for some good old English grub.
I thought it was fantastic value for money with the kids getting drinks and snacks when they wanted and in the weather we had they needed it.
The weather was in the 80's most days and was a great tonic especially as been lousy back home!
The smell that is mentioned, we only caught a whiff of it about 5 times during our 2 week stay and it is quite strong, but it only lasted no more than a minute on each occasion.
The only downside to this holiday had nothing to do with the hotel but with the minority of people who just moan for moaning sake, and to be honest there were some people who made us ashamed to be brits. Going on a FAMILY holiday and then sitting in the bar from morning till night drinking and letting their kids run riot.
As many people on here have stated, there are unsupervised children running around but it is nothing to do with the reps, who do a great job, it is the parents who should be ashamed of themselves.
The entertainment was nightly and varied not brilliant but watchable however we were so tired from activities during day we were normally in bed before 11pm!
All in all we had a lovely 2 weeks that we thoroughly enjoyed and I would definitely recommend the El Greco and Portinatx which although quiet, is simply stunning.
It is definitely worth a visit.
