El Greco Hotel

Having booked allocation on arrival from a choice of 3 complexes, this would have been 3rd choice based on brochure descriptions. Memories are of noise from unsupervised badly behaved children and teenagers and falling food quality in the 2nd week as the hotel progressively shut down for winter.
Memories should have been of the location just off the beach and the views from the dining room as the sun set in the evening. Get a sea view balcony if you go - as an allocation on arrival guest the view allocated was of the hotel laundry!

I must point out, that we booked Late and accepted allocation on arrival. The reason we picked the dates we booked, was that it was not school holidays. You have got to be joking! There were more kids in El Greco than you can imagine, you could have filled a school. We have normally no problem with children, we are all grandparents and in our late sixties, thus the reason for booking out of school holidays. The children here were under no supervision. They were free to do whatever they felt like.
It was complete Bedlam, and the noise was unbearable. The place was full of people who were intent on getting as much alcohol inside them and not caring a damn about the children they had brought with them. The dining area was OK but the food was a bit repetitive. To get to the dining room you had no option but to pass through the Main Bar area. This area was full of cigarette smoke and caused me stress in passing to and fro when going to eat. When you had taken the time to wash and dress correctly for eating dinner in the evening, You were surrounded by louts wearing shorts and vests and flip-flops on their feet. There were kids running about in the dining room without their parents anywhere to be seen. You had difficulty getting a lift because the kids were playing in them.
There was a notice stating that children had to be accompanied by an adult when using the lifts. We saw people fighting in the reception area, where we spent most of our time when in the hotel. The bar area was un bearable for the noise from the so called entertainment. and the smoke extractors were non-functional. This hotel is not suitable for people with walking problems. We booked this holiday with Thompson’s, as we have done in the past, and have been well pleased. Thompson’s were well aware of our ages when booking, and although it was allocation on arrival, I really think they could have put some thought into where they put us. The resort is extremely mountainous and quite unsuitable for elderly persons.
The steps down to the beach were too many to count, and there was no alternative way to get there. If you were in a wheel chair or using a walking stick You had almost a mile to walk around and then down a very hazardous slope to gain access to the beach. I will most definitely Not be going to the El Greco again or indeed Portinatx.

Food was lovely, waterpark was great, pool too small and crowded but the beach was fantastic and more than made up for it. The night entertainment was awful, run by reps and very unprofessional. Hotel room was spacious and clean - maid service every day but make sure you ask for a sea view otherwise balcony views were of car parks or the road.
The hotel and resort is safe to allow the kids to roam on their own and mine made lots of friends. Overall we had a really great holiday and but we felt 7 days was just about enough.

It was the best holiday I’ve ever had. I went with my mum, dad and my sister and our friends. We stayed in the el Greco hotel for a week and we had such a good time it weren’t long enough. We would definitely go back and would recommend it to other people. We went on the 26th of august 2005 before we went I read some reviews some were off- putting but I can reassure anyone that has doubts its a brilliant holiday. The food is fantastic and the water park is really good along with the pool and beautiful beach. Obviously you have to make sure you get a place by the pool early. The entertainment was great and there was never a dull moment all the reps are very friendly and great fun. There was some entertainment on every night to suit different people, and the clubs dances were alot of fun. There are some steps which you have to walk up n down to get to the town and the beach but it’s hardly any at all we had such a good time we hardly noticed. We are looking forward to going back next year.

Good holiday if you like Butlins. Very noisy didn’t get much sleep due to noise from other guests.
Pool too small didn’t get to it as it was always packed. Staff don’t speak much English but this wasn’t a problem as they didn’t speak to us much at all.
Beachfront location was fantastic although you do have to pay for the sunbeds 4 euros each. Water park very good lots of fun. Food was excellent much praise to the chefs. Great hotel for the kids.
