room sharing

Sep 2011, thepipe

we have just returned from a ten day holiday at the cala nova.
having arrived at the hotel at 4 am we were allocated a room on the first floor and at first every thing seemed fine untill we were awoken again at 7 am by people in room next door.
we could hear word for word their conversation it was like sharing a room with strangers, this was because of the paper thin door that connected to the next room.
we went to reception to complain and they said it was thomson who had allocated us this room and that no other room was available without connecting doors and that 2 thirds of all rooms in hotel were connected.
we told the thomson rep rachael and she said she would look into the matter and four days later having had to endure lack of sleep and privacy we were moved to a room on top floor and finaly unpack our suit cases.
apart from this i could not fault the rest of the hotel it is a nice hotel in a great location , the food is good the staff polite the pool area is great and all areas are clean.
my advice if your not deaf take some ear plugs

Can't recommend it highly enough

Myself and my 14 year old daughter stayed at the Cala Nova, Es Cana for a week in July. The hotel was wonderful. Clean, friendly and very accomodating to everyones needs. The staff were attentive and were pleased to help in any way. It was quiet at night and heard no other noise from surrounding rooms. Very adequete rooms with good facilites. The food was of excellent quality and such a varied choice that everyone could find something to their taste. I can't recommend it highly enough. The evening entertainment was good and throughout the day there was something going on if required. Close to a lovely beach if we wanted to be by the sea and many good shops.
We had such a wonderful week at the Cala Nova and will certainly be booking to return there next summer. We would like to say thank you for a memorable holiday and good times we will both always look back on with fondness.

  • Advice: I would recommend that it is best to go on an all inclusive basis as drinks are a little expensive

Average 3 star family hotel

Advertised in Thomson brochure as a peaceful 4T retreat - it is not! Hotel is a good 15 min walk from small resort centre so quiet in that sense but entertainment team and music v loud from 11 am. Pool area very crowded. Not really suitable for couples wanting a romantic quiet getaway.
Good points - I will try hard here!- towels changed regularly, staff friendly, food pretty good.
Bad points - some of the sunbeds at the pool desperately need replacing, non adjustable and badly sagging. There were a few premium spots at the pool with gorgeous sea viewsand comfortable loungers but we went down at 8 am and even then they were all covered with towels. Beds in rooms need replacing v uncomfortable with slatted base and poor quality foam mattress. Alot of the rooms are interconnecting - we actually had to pay a supplement for this as no other rooms available- and through the door you can here your neighbours talking as though they are in your room. Evening entertainment v poor apart from amazing bejing acrobats. Es cana itself v british small few shops bars etc really nothing there.
Allin all very disappointed

  • Advice: Want a typical family med holiday with youngish kids and go all inclusive
  • Board Basis:half board

We stayed at Hotel Cala Nova last week. In common with all Spanish hotels we have ever stayed in it was very clean with friendly staff. However, our disappointment was the rooms as the view was over the roof of the kitchens and all we could see was the ventilation pipes. Strong smell of food. We did ask to change but there were no interconnecting rooms available. We paid nearly £3,000 for our family holiday and clearly feel let down.
Not as close to the town as we expected but good beach close at hand.
Plenty of food with lots of variety - perhaps too much. They'd be better giving less choice and doing it better. Not exactly bad but very canteeny.
Entertainment patchy - excellent night with The Holics duo.

  • Advice: Make sure you don't get a room on the first floor.

We have just returned from 2 week stay at the Cala Nova and as it was 9 years since we were last there nothing very much had changed.
The room was very good, staff very friendly and helpful, food very good.Towels could be changed whenever you wished and lovely views.Entertainment was good with a variety of acts and when it came to the hotel entainment staff they were very good and they also dealt with children and adults.
As from next year 2012 children will not be allowed which i think is a pity.
We have been there 4 times and hopefully to go again.

Not such a quiet time

Nov 2010, Sleepless in Ibiza

When we stayed at this hotel in high season,my wife and I found it impossible to get a decent night's sleep.
We were given an adjoining room next to an elderly couple who must have been deaf judging by the level of volume of the TV,you could also hear every body function that they performed anywhere
Also our room looked out over the dining room and kitchens, and from 07:00-24:00 we were treated to the constant noise of the air-con and extractors.
When we asked for a move we were told this would not be possible as the hotel was full so we just had to put up with it.
To sum up, if you go here don't believe all the reviews on here and take you earplugs.

  • Advice: Don't be palmed of with an adjoining room!!

Once again we had a lovely restful holiday. We just keep going back because we feel confident that we will have a great time. Friendly helpful staff, very clean with comfortable beds,(ask for a room without an ajoining door though as it can be annoying if you get a loud neighbour)the food is plentiful and so much choice.Evening entertainment is a bit hit-and-miss but we always walk around to the other hotels in Es Cana to see if there is anything else we fancy watching or Rios Bar is nice.Stunning location with beautiful beach only a few steps from the poolside. Christian and Vanessa kept us all amused this year with silly daytime activities if you felt inclined to 'have a go'. Choice of nice easy walks which is a real bonus to us as we like to stretch our legs after breakfast and dinner.Every year we say we'll try somewhere different but like other who know this hotel we just have to go back as it has everything we want in a holiday at a very reasonable price too!

  • Advice: Es Cana is the Ibiza that families and older couples will love!

We stayed at the Fiesta Cala Nova hotel in Es Cana in mid May. Myself and my husband are in our early 30's and we have a 2 year old daughter. We really enjoyed every minute. The beach was fantastic, everywhere we went in Es Cana was immaculate and the people were very friendly. Ideal holiday/time of year for a 2 year old as not to busy but just enough around to keep them occupied. We went for the All Inclusive (inclusive food and drinks) and found it excellent value. Even just having breakfast and our day/night drinks we had our moneys worth. Cant recommend this place enough, Would go again!

We originally booked 11 nights at this hotel on a half board basis, but after reading some reviews we decided to upgrade to all inclusive for 19 euros each a day when we arrived at the hotel. What a joy not having to worry about money. The weather was beautiful so we spent quite a few days either around the pool area or on the beach - and never had to spend a euro. This was the first holiday we have gone home with money. The pool and surrounding area was very clean, however, the sunbeds had seen better days and could do with replacing.
The hotel is in a prime position if you want a quiet relaxing holiday away from the usual Ibiza nightlife - a 5 minute walk to nearest bars.
It's just a two minute walk to a nice stretch of beach. The hotel room was lovely and very clean. My only complaint - it was an ajoining room - and there was very very poor soundproofing - so you could hear everything!!!!
The food was excellent, can't fault it - there was so much choice and the restaurant area good. You can eat inside or outside. All in all a good hotel at a reasonable price - worth giving it a go.

  • Advice: the quieter side of Ibiza
  • Activities: enjoy the sun

Just returned from a weeks stay at the Cala Nova Es Cana, less than 30 mins transfer, spotlessly clean hotel, commfy beds, staff that smiled couldn't be more helpful. Good food, loads of choice, stunning views from pool area, less than a stones throw to beach.sea warmer than the pool. The best all inclusive food we have had so far, freshly grilled fish prawns steak lamb pork chops daily, plus fresh joint being carved beef ham chicken. daily choice of local food paella, fish dishes, all hot and tastey, u won't go hungry unless exceptionally picky!!! 24 different puds one day! fresh salads good old english brekie freshly cooked eggs omlettes to order.
Now the dissappointing!!! not bad bits.Yes rooms can be noisey we had considerate neighbours, but it is still a little shocking when they return from night out, sounds like they are entering your room!!!!
We like many others will be returning next year, the evening entertainment is poor... the odd hour long show, some are good, even better when u have had a drink or 2 was the most disappointing bit for us really.. Join in the dayime activities around the pool u get to know others and pick up tips on the area very quickly.
The all inclusive is worth while ..one bottle of water 1 euro 55 on a hot day u get through plenty of these and are allowed to order 4-6 to take to ur room. coffee 1.60, beer 3.50, vodka coke 4.50 thats local stuff. you can purchase drink only bands when there 15 euros if ur not fussed about lunch but the pre booked ones are the best unless u want premium beers etc that 21-25 euros a day purchased there,
there were 5 kids in total the week we went and were told a totally different place when lots of kids.
We had rain... lots of...and storms.. unusual for this time of year so feel a little hard done by but when the suns out its extremely hot so be warned.. i hope this review is helpful, if u are mr adverage u won't be disappointed and hopefully like us will have a great holiday, if u want the hilton, think again. This hotel ticked all our boxes of what we wanted from a holiday, i hope it ticks urs too.

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday at the Cala Nova Hotel Es Cana, the food was excellent and catered for all tastes the hotel was clean&comfortable and we had a fabulous sea view. The only fault was all rooms should have a fridge as standard you can hire one at a weekly rate. The Beach is perfect we would love to return one day the only down side for us was the resort which is full of english bars if you like Bingo Sky TV, drag acts and the Bulls Head then this is the resort for you it was such a shame as the small harbour could be a lovely setting but was more like Skegness Oh I forgot the fair as well. If you like a Spanish holiday to be spanish then i recommend Santa Eularia which is lovely and only 2.70 Euro's on the bus or 10 Euro's by taxi and a ten min ride away

  • Advice: Too English !!!!
  • Activities: Ibiza Town & Santa Eularia
  • Good For: Beach
