This was my 9th visit to Ibiza and my most disappointing. Cala Llonga deserves its reputation as a sleepy town I have seen more life in a graveyard, after midnight the resort is totally silent. Public transport stops at 7.30 in the evening so if you're a big fan of the... more

The hotel and staff were excellent. We did not take up the 'All Inclusive Drinks' option as we felt we would have to stay in the hotel most of the time. We like to go sightseeing when we are on holiday so did not think it would be value for money for us. The cost was... more

Don't believe the bug problem is hotel related, the place was spotless while we stayed there. A couple of the bars in the bay area could well be the source, judging by the lack of hygiene standards. Nothing is too much trouble unless you one of those grumpy old sods. Food... more

Hotel is clean and staff friendly. The room - well, we had a room with a view of a spiral staircase, and a few trees so I think their boast of "all rooms have sea or hills views" is a bit of a fat fib! The maid cleans every day and you can only get a couple of TV... more

Wot no Bug!!!
Just returned from a wonderful week @ hotel cala llonga! No kids, No stress,No germans and finally No BUG that alot of the previous entrants had wrote about. Everything that we wanted from a holiday we got on this trip, starting with being first drop off from airport (a nice touch from gold holidays, no coach journey with screaming kids),the porter taking our cases to our room, nice pleasant reps wanting you to enjoy your hols and not just sell you a trip, entertainment staff-2 lads doing what they enjoy and giving it their best, and not forgetting the hotel-its been refurbished and it looks alot better than some other hotels who claim to be 4 star, food was good and varied, staff were very friendly. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves(apart from the ones who compare it to last years holidays-so if last years was that good why didn't they go back this year??).So the location is a bit hilly but the brochure states this and there were alot of old Dears managing the steps not moaning just getting on with having a lovely holiday. Cala Llonga is small and quiet but this is the attraction, go to San An if you want the night life. One last comment about the bug no one had it when we were there,so maybe they've got their act together. Only bad part to this report is I'm writing this on a rainy miserable evening back in the uk when last night we were having our last evening meal there watching the sun go down. Many thanks Fiesta Cala Llonga.
Loved it!!
I have just been looking at the amount of bad reviews that the Cala Llonga hotel and quite frankly cant believe some of the things that have been written. It was my first time on the island and i enjoyed it very much. I was aware that there was a stomach complaint as it was mentioned to me by some gentleman literally as soon as i walked in the front door of the hotel with my cases!!!! Despite the chat around the pool....which made matters worse i thought the hotel was superb. The location was ideal if you are looking for a quiet holiday. The management and entire hotel staff were so friendly and approchable. As for the Thomson reps, i can only say well done for the amount of effort you put in on a daily basis to ensure that we were ok and enjoying our holiday. I think you deserve a medal for dealing with the amount of unjustified complaints that you had. And if you dont go to Cala Llonga for anything else, the rep show is a scream!!!! Thank you Thomson for a wonderful holiday....we will be back
Stomach Bug
Six of us stayed at the hotel at the beginning of July for 2 weeks. Rumours of the stomach bug were abound and we were a little put out by the spraying of the hands at dinner time. However from our experience it was restricted to a couple of people who sat around the swimming pool all day. Needless to say we were on the beach every day and didn't suffer from any kind of bug. It's all down to people's lack of personal hygiene and common sense. The hotel did their best but as it's a buffet they can't stop people touching every bread roll in the basket and picking food up only to put it back!! This is an excellent hotel with friendly staff that we would all return to again.
The 'Stomach Bug'
We stayed at Fiesta Cala Llonga from August 4-18. Like many other holidaymakers we suffered stomach problems and lost much of the enjoyment of our holiday. We felt unable to venture far from toilets and did not go on any excursions. During our stay there were several visits by health / food safety inspectors at the hotel but the ongoing problem was still there. Thomson refused to transfer us to alternative accommodation in spite of admitting to viral gastro enteritis at the hotel. This was our fourth Thomson Gold holiday and because of Thomson's 'customer service' attitude to us it will probably be our last. I suggest all affected holidaymakers contact their local Trading Standards Office, Holidays from Hell (ITV) and Watchdog (BBC) to try to establish the extent of the problem.
The dreaded sickness bug
I am writing on behalf of my parents who are both in their sixties, my father being disabled. They were only at the hotel for 2 days before catching the sickness bug which lasted the complete duration of the 2 week holiday(July 2004). Twice the doctor had to be called out and my dad was very close to being hospitalized. They found the hotel staff very friendly but the Thomson rep was very unhelpful and also quite rude. He wouldn't even refund money they had paid for excursions but were too ill to go on. They spoke to another rep who did refund their money. We can't believe that Thomson are still sending people there, please go at your own risk. It's a real shame as it's a lovely hotel in a nice location which would be a great place to stay if it weren't for this awful bug.
the bug
We have just returned from a 2 week holiday at the Fiesta Hotel, Cala Llonga. Needless to say, our holiday was badly affected by 'the bug' that Thomson still refuse to acknowledge. We find this unbelievable in view of the number of cases that have been reported over the last year or more. How can Thomson be so irresponsible? Surely they have a duty to warn customers of this problem! Losing 4 days of a much needed holiday due to an avoidable illness is totally unacceptable. Avoid this place at all costs!! We will certainly not be going back!
No Sign of this legendary 'Bug'
Just back from a lastminute booking for a week at this hotel. As an Ibizan veteran, I must say the Cala Llonga makes a refreshing change from the usual fare on the island. It is very clean It has air conditioning It has friendly staff And for a half board hotel, it has a pretty good selection of food on offer. However, it is a Thomson Gold hotel, and it does cater for that crowd. If you're not in your twilight years then you might find the evening entertainment a little challenging. Add that to a military attitude to obtaining and keeping particular premium sunbeds and tables and you might find it a little like being on holiday with all your friends parents. Polite, reasonably sober, quiet after 11pm, amusing dancers - each night is like being at a family wedding. All in all, it was relaxing, reasonable and very quiet. And despite what you might read here - it is not like an isolation ward, and there seemed to be no sign of the problems mentioned here - if the staff are fighting the epidemic then they're hiding it very well. Couple of points about Cala Llonga itself - it can be a challenge to get a taxi sometimes to get to the brighter spots of Ibiza, and it's not cheap (£10 to Ibiza Town, £20 to San An). As a redeeming feature - Bar Toni has the best food I've ever had on a European Holiday, a great spanish grill.
the bug
a great pity stayed at the hotel for two weeks in late june the holiday was ruined by the bug all the stories of hands being sprayed and guests dropping like flies are correct this was our second trip here and if the hotel get this bug sorted out we will return
The Bug Returned
My husband and I are just back from our third year at Fiesta Cala Llonga. Unfortunately we hadn't read the reviews and our Travel Agent or Thomson didn't inform us about the problem at the hotel. My husband was ill last year, putting it down to the heat, as I was ok, but he has continued to be ill on and off since then. This year he became ill within the first week of our two week stay. His symptoms were, headache, stomache cramps and diarrhea. Shortly later I had headache, nausea and vomitting. This lasted approximately four days each. The hotel asked that we stayed in our rooms and they would deliver food, the maid checking the cleanliness of our bathroom and leaving us notes even after symptons had subsided. Although the hotel staff were their normal friendly helpful selves they did seem on edge and defensive. I now know why. They were disinfecting door handles, lift buttons, safe deposit handles, cleaning the toilets hourly, trying to keep it at bay but obviously their efforts are not working. I would like to thank the people that have taken the time to write the reviews. I will be complaining to my travel agent, Thomson and the hotel.
Loved the holiday apart from getting the bug
My husband and I stayed at the Calla Longa Hotel from 19-July for 11 nights. We found the hotel and food excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment and the staff were extremely friendly. The only problem was I was very very ill on the plane journey home. I had severe stomach pain and was in absolute agony. I had to keep dashing to the loo to be sick and unfortunately when we was landing I couldnt go to the loo so I had to be sick in a paper bag. I was ill for 48 hours and had to contact the Doctor. Although we enjoyed our holiday I would have to think twice about returning to this hotel in the future.
