Myself, husband and 1 year old stayed at the Floriana complex in July 2008.

The complex itself is very nice, clean and the staff very friendly, however the complex is 95% German All inclusive.

We were expecting a snack bar that served kiddies meals as this is what the Portland Direct brochure and website advised. This would have been very usefull to us as we have a 1 year old. This however was not the case. The snack bar does not exist. You can only get food when the German All inclusive food comes out and you have to stand in a school dinner like que for about half an hour. Not good.

Being that this was 95% german hotel, you can imagine what the sunbed situation was like. There was supposed to be a no towels on sunbeds before 9am rule in place but this was not the case until myself and a group of other british holiday makers kicked up a fuss about not being able to get a sunbed. There are plenty of sunbeds with no one on them but they all have towels on them. Sometimes all day and no one returns to use the sunbeds....

We gave in in the end and headed forthe beach. Cala Bona beach isnt that nice but walk a little further along to Cala Millor and the beach is beautifull, the main Cala miloor beach charge for sunbeds and parasols however you can buy a parasol from one of the local shops for 7 euro and just lie on your lilos. Money saving tip.....

Cala Bona is a lovely little resort with some great restaurants and bars around the marina. Not a plastic chair or sign for chicken n chips in sight. Bliss.

You will also never be bothered by pub touts as it is not that kind of resort. Very Family orientated.

I can not really coment to much on the kids club as my little boy was to young to use, but i can say that it is german. The reps did speak english but from what i could tell the majority of the kids were german and were obviosly talking in german so any british kids would probably not want to join in.

There are 4 pools to choose from, we only used 2.

The main pool is always far to busy, not a chance in hell of getting a sunbed. There is also a small pool on one of the anexe blocks, this one seemed to be quiter but i think mainly usedby the people staying in that block.

We also used the pool at the Bahaia Azul ( sister complex). This was really nice, all british, scots and irish, no trouble getting a sunbed.

I can not make coment on the food as we never ate there, due to the que at lunch time. All i can say is that it was the same stuff every day.

If you are booked up to go to the floriana be prepared to get up early to get yourself a sunbed.

I was getting up at 8 am and sitting for an hour to reserve our sunbeds ready for my husband to bring my little boy down around 9.30.

The hotel did decide to remove towels placed before 9am around the middle of the week, which did help a little, however remaining defiant the germans were going down earlier and earlier to sit until 9 am. I looked out of my window one morning at 7 am and there were people out shivering reserving their sunbeds. Pathetic.

There are not enough parasols to sunbeds either, so very difficult to keep my 1 year old out of the sun. Very annoying when people had reserved them and werent using them.....

I would not go back to the floriana, however i would go an stay at the Baha Azul and i would go back to Cala Bona.

Thomson and Portland need to stop selling this property and let the german have their way and make it just for german use..

The Floriana resort is well maintained and enjoys a nice location away from the main area of Cala Bona.

The rooms are kept clean and linen is changed regularly. We stayed in L block and the balconies could do with a bit of a refresh - the paint is chipping away etc. We stayed on a self catering basis however the kitchen consists of two hot plates so the cuisine was rather limited ;)

We had problems with our room keycard as every two days it seemed to stop working. It wasn't great having to walk back to reception each time this happened.

As many of the other reviews have mentioned, this resort caters for Germans. And, as much as it is a cliche, you do have to get up early and out towels on your sunlougers. There is a rule that no towels should be on beds before 9am but the Floriana don't ever seem to enforce this. Quite unfair.

Cala Bona itself is ok - has far too many English restaurants. We did manage to find one restaurant, Paparazzi which was nice. The remainder of the restaurants were a little tacky, serving pie and chips etc, not traditional Majorcan cuisine.

All in all the holiday was nice, the weather was great. however, it is not somewhere we would return too.

Very nice place, spotless but full of Germans! Should not be sold to brits as it is orientated towards the Germans,Kids club in German, talking to local Cafe owners they all said that it is renown for taking in brits who are then not happy being in the minority! If you don`t mind Germans you will be fine, but if you like to be happy and sociable with the other residents whilst enjoying yourself on holiday don`t go there ,shame really.

Very impressed when we arrived at the efficient reception desk (all staff spoke several languages) and then whisked away to our accommodation in a golf buggy. We were in Block I. Apartment was generously-sized, spotless and well maintained (as was all the hotel complex) and the balcony was huge. Only downside was big tree across half of our balcony which cut out a lot of the sun. Bathroom gorgeous - shower worked well and a bath too which is sometimes unheard of abroad. Cooking facilities quite adequate for the purpose with microwave, toaster and two electric rings. We had a fault on our safety deposit box which meant that it did not lock, but having reported it to Reception, a maintenance man was there within 15 minutes and soon fixed it. Also, no toaster had been supplied to our room but it was delivered within an hour of having asked at Reception. Apartments could be noisy and echoey. We had asked for a quiet room on the top floor but ended up on the first floor overlooking the pool in the 5-floor blocks in the Floriana so some noise experienced from people above, esp. in the second week.

There were plenty of sunbeds around the 3 pools in the complex and the pools were not crowded (we were there in the first two weeks of the season) but maybe more into the main season it would be quite busy/noisy. Despite the fact that we as English were totally outnumbered by Germans there was no problem with sunbeds being reserved early in the morning. Although the complex was set towards the back of Cala Bona (which meant about a 10-minute walk to the supermarket/beach) this meant it was in a quiet residential location away from the promenade and restaurants so was a relaxing place to stay.

Loved the walking around the resort, both to Cala Millor, Sa Coma, Son Servera (for Friday market) and Costa Los Pinos and the weather (though poor for sunbathing) was perfect for doing just that. Wished we had hired a bike: the area is so flat that it lends itself to cycling, which so many people took advantage of.

The Bip supermarket in Cala Bona was the cheapest all round but the some of the Spar shops sold a different variety of goods so are worth a look. The best supermarket is the Hiper in Cala Millor (set back from the central "square") which has a good "deli" and fresh meat counter if you really want to do the whole self-catering thing.

We very much enjoyed our relaxing holiday and would certainly return both to the Floriana and to Cala Bona.

Fabulous holiday. Our apartment was right next to the tennis courts and the pool. Maid service was efficient and the staff were friendly.

On the downside Germans, Towels & Sunbeds!!! Need I say more? Only once did the staff take way "reserved" bed towels but it didn't spoil it for us in any way.

Cala Bona is lovely and the walk to Cala Millor is perfect.

Great holiday - everything is close and despite what you read in reviews the bus service is great and extremely cheap!!

You must visit Caves of Drach as they are stunning and the beach at Cala Millor is just fabtastic.

All in all I and my family couldn't fault this holiday and we will long remember our summer evenings singing and laughing in Sand Dancers bar. Faz and little Faz make sure you enjoy yourself!

We went to this hotel the first week of the season. It was fabulous!

Portland only sell this accommodation on a self catering basis, although Thomson (the parent company) sell it to the Germans only on an all inclusive package.

We were self catering but upgraded to all inclusive when we arrived at a cost of £485 for a week for a family of four. This was good value for money and included bike hire.

The apartments are very spacious and spotlessly clean. The maid service is five days per week and they do a very good job.

The three swimming pools on the complex were well maintained and the children loved them. The water was absolutely freezing as the pools had only been filled a few days before we arrived but did start to warm up over the week.

The pool bar was open from 10am till 6pm and sold drinks and snacks. I would highly recommend the chicken kebabs!

The clientele are mostly German with a few British and Dutch people too. This was not a problem to us as we were in a large party, but if we had gone on our own as a family; the children would not have had trouble making many English speaking friends.

The food in the restaurant was lovely. There was plenty of choice at every meal time. Breakfast was the usual bacon, sausages, eggs etc, or if you prefer, there was a good selection of cereals, hams, and cheeses.

Lunch and evening meal were very varied with plenty of choice. There were lots of different types of fish, sea food, and meat on offer. The meals were of a very high standard and had something for everyone. You help yourself to draught wine and beer with your meals.

We did eat out twice at a lovely Spanish restaurant, called Fonoll Mari, overlooking the harbour in Cala Bona. They served brilliant steaks, seafood, and paella. A meal for four cost the same as the all inclusive cost for a day but made a nice change so was money well spent.

There are plenty of cheaper places to eat around the resort. A lot of the bars in both Cala Bona and Cala Millor are British and we tried to avoid them prefer to go to the Spanish bars and restaurants.

We took advantage of the bike hire most days and cycled to the lovely beach at Cala Millor. It was exceptionally clean and very quiet due to the time of year.

The staff on the complex were very pleasant and helpful.

All in all we had a fantastic holiday and will definitely return to the Floriana.

We just returned from Floriana Resort and had a wonderful time.

The apartments are clean, clean towels every day and the resort overall is very clean and the staff are friendly and speak their languages very well.

We booked All Inclusive which was just amazingly good. Breakfast buffet, brunch buffet, lunch buffet, coffee/tea/cakes buffet in the late afternoon, dinner buffet and all day free ice-cream for the kids.

In the evening at the bar even cocktails were All Inclusive! (Pick from 4).

You can rent bikes for free, there's a sauna, gym, tennis court and animation from 10:30 till 1 and 3 to 5.

The Animation Team is Dutch but does all the shows and kids disco (Proty Club) in German, Dutch and English. They were with the 4 of them, but will have 4 more people during main season.

There's 5 swimming pools. Apartments are a little noisy.

We did not like Cala Bona/Cala Millor too much, but would go back to the resort.

We rented a car at the reception, which was perfect.

I would go back to this hotel...

I would go back to this hotel again because it was clean, friendly neighbourhood where you can go for a great holiday. I have no complaints about the cleanliness of the hotel as it was always clean and you get maid service 5 times a week. The staff at this hotel are great because you probably think going to Spain the staff would speak Spanish , but most of them speak English, we made friends with the waiters especially carols and Nico.

The entertainment was good although it was a bit short , there is a mini disco for the kids and then 1 hours entertainment a little short but very good standard one I thought was good was Starlight express.

The pool is large and clean as it is cleaned regularly everyday , also there is no rush to get down to the pool to grab a sun bed as there is plenty for the amount of guests.

The restaurant is good as it buffet style and you can go up as many times as you like and there is salad, soup , meats and hot and cold buffet , and one night a week there is gala night which is one particular type of food e.g. Chinese.

The apartment itself is good because it has 2 cooking rings, fridge, toaster, microwave and however they do have kettles but you do need to boil it on the cooking ring which does take a while, but overall the apartment caters for your needs for the time you spend in it.

I would attend the ‘what’s on’ meeting if I was you. When you get there as they do some good deals on excursions on western water park - a must - it has some brilliant rides also it has a 30ft drop slide which looks scary but is not that scary at all.

Overall I could not fault the Floraina so I would go back to the Floriana as it is good for a great holiday with great service.

It was one of the best holidays I have had! The staff were really, really nice and i made friends with all of them. The apartments were spotless and modern.

It was well fun playing volleyball with the entertainers and they were really nice to you. The bar staff were funny and they gave me nicknames which was funny. The entertainment at night was fantastic, especially 'Mr. Floriana' and 'starlight express'.

The resort was massive and had 3 swimming pools which was a really good idea. The beach and shops was like a 5 minute walk away and I thought they were really good. When we went back there about 4 months later they all remembered me which was really nice.

I had my picture taken with them as well! I would DEFINITELY go there again!!

Floriana resort was always clean and the staff were very polite. There was a bit of a walk to the beach and the shops. The beach at Cala Bona was very small and not very appealing. There was a much nicer beach up the promenade which is the Cala Millor beach.

We caught a taxi to Sa Coma a couple of times. The beach there was beautiful, the sea was clear and the sand was golden.

Overall the Floriana was beautiful, however i would not consider going back to Cala Bona.

What can I say except spotlessly clean and staff always willing to help. peaceful is also a word it's far enough away from town but still close enough to walk. The rooms were cleaned 5 times in the week & our maid felt sorry for us as all girls sharing gave us extra towels for our hair. The Bahia is slightly separate from the rest of the resort but it's all families there & a separate pool which means your self contained anyway & the reps spend most of their time over there.

The pool is a nice size & has it's own bar salon that does snacks & drinks up until 7pm & quite reasonable prices. The only down size is the towels on the sunbeds, it states that it isn’t allowed however we were setting our alarm for 7.30am & only then just managed to get some beds.

Never ate on the site as too many restaurants in Cala Bona itself & Cala Millor, however they have just opened a steak house on the resort & for 10E you could have a 3 course meal however you had to book at least 2-3 days before you went. The Donkeys Rest down on the front of Cala Bona was one of the best places we found to eat & when on the way to the beach it was a nice resting place.

The beach at Cala Millor was definitely the nicer & a train can take you into Sa Coma which again has a better beach than Cala Bona. However watch out for the endless bike & scooter hire that everyone seems to do if you have little ones i can be a little nerve racking as you seem to be avoiding them all evening.

Found Supermarket Bip one of the cheapest in town but if you wander to Cala Millor they are much cheaper & wider range than the supermarkets in Cala Bona.

There was entertainment wherever you went down in the town or if you stayed on the resort. The shows that they laid on in the evenings were of high standard but please get there early as on 2 nights we had to stand as it was full.

All in all an excellent holiday if your looking for a relaxing time would definitely go back especially to the Floriana Resort there was so much choice & spotless.

The apartments were of a good standard, had a fridge, microwave, toaster, 2 cooking rings, however no electric kettle as you have to boil it on the cooker. Maid service 5 times / week and the whole complex was kept very clean.

Would recommend going self-catering & not paying for half-board through Portland as you can pay for food whilst there. For adults there is a daily charge of 6.5E for breakfast, 10E for dinner or 15E for half board, kids under 12 are half these prices & kids under 6 eat free. You can also pay for 1 week halfboard for a discount of -10% or -15% for 2 weeks halfboard.

The restaurant food is buffet style & there was always a soup, salads, fish, meat, potatoes, veg etc & lots of desserts & ice-creams to choose from & service was good. We went half board on a few days to go to the kids mini-disco as there are lots of places in Cala Bona/Cala Millor to eat at. Would recommend Marias which is a small local restaurant 5 mins walk next to the small spar shop - food excellent & very cheap.

All hotel staff were very friendly, & the hotels own entertainment staff put on some great shows in the evening. There were Thomson kidzone reps but our kids were to young for the clubs, although there is a playground just down the road for Floriana guests which has lots of slides & stuff for little ones to play on. 2 pools were open whilst we were there & we found that the one next to the restaurant was much quieter. They are supposed to be strict on reserving sunbeds but as it was low season there wasn’t a problem getting them.

Cala Millor beach is much nicer than Cala Bona although if you have little ones it’s about a 15-20 minute walk from the apartments. There are plenty of cafes/restaurant as you walk from Cala Bona to Cala Millor & there is a supermarket in Cala Millor which has much more choice & cheaper than the Spar shops, plenty of tourist shops too & also a crepe/candyfloss stall on the promenade in Cala Bona in the evenings which we visited most nights!

Went to the Pirate show in Magalluf - it is quite good, although not cheap, would recommend paying extra for the quarterdeck as the queue is much shorter & you’ll get more time to eat & drink instead of queuing up. However I wouldn’t recommend it for very young children.

All in all had a great holiday, could not fault the Floriana / Protur Group but would not choose to go back to Cala Bona again.

We went to the Floriana last year and were really impressed. On arrival we were whisked off on a golf cart to our apartment which was a fair size with a lovely big balcony, very clean and nicely decorated.

We were in block G which has a fairly small pool but you have the choice to use any of the others. This block is set back from the rest of the complex and really quite quiet. Perfect as you have the best of both worlds.

The entertainment for the children was brilliant, our children did not use the kids clubs much but went to the mini disco every night and really enjoyed it. The entertainment team at the hotel were brilliant, much better

then the Thompson reps!. The only downside is the beach at Cala Bona is small and not as nice as the one at Cala Millor worth the 15 min walk to Cala Millor. We enjoyed this holiday so much we are going back in August this year. a tip book direct with the hotel and book flight separately much much cheaper!
