Sorry it's a long review but it is...
8 / 10
Jul 2008, Mr M Williams

Sorry it's a long review but it is honest and through. . .
A group of 6 aged from 10 - 65 went to this hotel. Like a lot of other people after reading all the other negative reports we were rather suprised when we arrived at the clumba mar wehre we were greeted by pedro: the manager.
Pedro was more than friendly and helpful throughout our stay.
Rooms:
We were in 138, first floor. The room was more than large enough and spotlessly clean.
In our opinion this room was more than large enough to swing a cat around in, but we didn't try this. Our room was cleanned everyday, fresh towels everyday, beds made everyday and generally cleaned everyday. Nothing ever went mising from our room.
General Cleanliness of the hotel:
For a 3* hotel this was exeptional. We saw staff all day cleaning. All communial areas were of a very high standard.
Meals:
Breakfast was served in the resturant, it consisted of
- fruit juices
- cereals
- contenental breakfst (ham and cheese and cakes)
- toast
- ful english breakfast
And in our opinion of a very good standard and always refresed and kept clean.
Lunch was served in the small room but you sit in the lounge and eat.
It was fairly basic and repetative. It generally consised of:
- soup
- salad
- chips
- potatoes
- deep fried chicken fingers or nuggets
- turkey roll or similar
- fruit and desserts
In our opinion this was the only downside to the hotel but we nipped across to the snack bar Caracas.
Evening Meal was served in the main dining room, which was always laid out well with tablecloths and knives and forks. Which we always found clean.
- soup
- salads
- a good range of hot food consisting of meat, vegetables, potates, chips, paella, fish.
- and childrens section too, (chips, nuggets, fish fingers ect)
Drinks:
- soft drinks (lemenade, cola, orange, cloudy lemonade, soda water, water)
- wine (red and white - by the glass)
- slush (red and yellow)
- sam miguel beer
- tea/ coffee
- hot chocolate
- expresso
Drinks were all help yourself except spirits. (vodka, barcardi, whiskey ect) These were local brands but more than satifactory.
Snack bar:
Wow, my daughter practically lived in here, she loved it. The selection was:
- sandwhiches
- nachos (which my daughter loved, she managed to eat 16 plates throught the week)
- hotdogs
- chips
- cheesy chips
The snack bar was directly across the road to the clumba mar and not even a minuite walk away. Also tony, who was the nicest, most helpful waiter you could wish to meet, but so were the other staff.
In our opinion this was the nicest pool especcially at 11 oclock in the everning for a quiet evening and snack.
Sickness bug:
What sickness bug??
A few people have been complaining about a sickness bug in previous reports but i am pleased to say that in our opinion it was gone. No one in our party was sick. And no one around the hotel seemed ill either. (could be put down to eating and drinking to much for those that was ill)
Entertainment:
Kicked off with a half an hour mini kid's disco which the youngest loved. Foloowed by bingo and a 15 queation quiz, really good fun and great atmosphere. After was the cavaray.
- elivs
- souldivas
- parrot show
- comedian singer
- karaoke (our daughter loved getting on stage and loved siging high school musical)
- Neil Diamond
Kids club:
THIS IS NOT RUN BY THOMSON but thomson didn't say that it was in the brouchure. This is wehre a lot of people got confused. THe kids club itself was run by a friendly staff member from 10am - 2pm although it stayed open until 8pm unsupervised. The room was really big, airconditioned and a lot to do for the younger of the familys.
Final Notes:
First Class for what we paid. First time as all inclusive and we would definetly do it again. Overall a good, clean, freidly hotel and just a minitue walk from the beach.
Thank you to predro, the manager and tony from the snack bar.
ONE OF THE BEST HOLIDAYS WE HAVE HAD, AND ONE OF THE MOST RELAXED.

We should have known that it was...

We should have known that it was going to be a less than brilliant experience when my father in law who booked the holiday received a call the day before departure informing us that the hotel was actually only a three star as opposed to the advertised four star. Very naughty I thought and no discount or apology offered!
We arrived at about 11 pm with two tired children under 3. All we wanted was something to eat and some bottled water to make up night feeds for my baby. As the hotel had finished serving food we where directed to the snack cafe across the road where the only offerings were chips or chicken paste sandwiches!! Needless to say my appetite disappeared. When I asked where we could get some bottled water from I was informed that we couldn't. There was nowhere open to buy it and the hotel point blank refused to give us some bottled water but offered me a glass. I explained why I needed it but was still refused!! I eventually found the so called Thompson holiday rep drinking with his friends who said yes that's right you can't have it and said he would sort it out in the morning. Absolutely useless and no help at all. My husband had to walk around the resort which we had only just arrived at, at midnight to try and get some water because the "all inclusive" hotel would not provide us with a bottle of water for a baby.
So as you can see not a great start. Overall the hotel was very basic, no entertainment for children, the adult entertainment was poor (1 night out of 6 okay). The food in the restaurant was basic and often the same every other night. The lunchtime food particularly poor and the snacks very limited. Everyone you spoke to had sickness and diarrhea and my mother in law spent three days in bed. We even had to pay for a late check out as she could not leave the room and our flight home was not until the evening. The Thompson rep was very unhelpful and had obviously switched off to the barrage of complaints he'd received daily and was not at all interested in our complaints and simply responded every time by saying people are entitled to their opinion. He was to be transferred to another hotel the Monday after we left so the new one might be better. The only positive thing he kept saying was that the hotel was clean, however with the amount of people who where ill this statement is sceptical to say the least.
Overall we did have a good holiday, the resort was nice and the beaches great but don't expect much from the hotel.

I cant beleve I'm talking about the...

Jul 2008, Ms J Mulone

I cant beleve I'm talking about the same hotel as some of the other reviewers here because I have just got back home (2.7.08) after having one of the most enjoyable holidays I'v ever had.
The Clumber Mar is spotlessly clean. We had a third floor room and ok, it was basic but perfectly adequate. The room had air conditioning 24 hours a day, free of charge. Bed linen and towels were changed twice a week and the room cleaned every day. The shower had hot water no mater what time of day we used it, which is a lot more than can be said for a lot of other hotels i'v stayed at.
The restaurant (again spotless) served a large variety of dishes. For breakfast there was cereal, full english, cheese, ham, toast, bread rolls, sweet rolls, jams, all kinds of fruit, a range of fruit juices and of course tea and coffee. Everything to satisfy anyone. For dinner there was a choice of starters, soup, salads ect. For the main cource there was always a choice of meat or fish with veg and boiled, chipped or jacket potatoes or salads. For dessert there was always a big choice from fresh fruits, ice cream, cakes and gateau, jelly and blancmange. I cant comment on lunch as we were out and about every day and never went back for it.
There are two pools, one at the main building and another across the road, both are good but I prefered the one over the road because there is more space and a lovely sun terrace with sun beds and parasols. Also you can get snacks, drinks and ice cream there from 10am to 11.30pm.
The evening entertainment was a bit hit or miss. Either very good or very bad. On the good nights we had a great time, on the bad we just went down to the promenade (only a couple of minites walk) and found some fun at the bars there.
Ah, now the bar. Lager and wine lovers you will be delighted because you just help yourself any time you want. Pull your own lager, red and white wine. The same goes for soft drinks, cold water, tea and coffee. Theres a large sellection of local spirits and liquers but those are poured by the bar staff.
I found all the staff at the hotel to be friendly and helpful.
One last thing about the hotel. There might have been a bug there earlier in the year but there certainly is not now. Not ONE person that I met there or any that they knew were at all ill. So if you have booked for the Clumba Mar, dont worry, just go and have fun. I hope you have as good a time as we did.
For me C'an Picafort was a delight. The beach is fantastic, soft white sand and crystal clear water that is so safe, especially for children. You can walk out quite a long way and still the water only comes up to your knees. The promanade runs the whole length of the resort with cafe's, restaurants and bars all along. Also, I must say that I always felt safe there, no mater what time of night we walked back to the hotel. For families and couples it is a wonderful place. This was our first time at C'an Picafort but it most definately will not be our last.

Not the holiday I purchased. Despite...
5 / 10
Jul 2008, Mrs P Jagger

Not the holiday I purchased.
Despite booking this 11 months in advance at a thomson shop with three criteria, All inclusive, Kids club, and Spain, this was their recommendation. I enquired about the childrens club both on payment of balance and again just prior to departure and was reassured it was running three days before we left. NO IT WASN'T
I was offered the use of a kids club at a different hotel but would have to purchase food and drink there WHY BOOK ALL INCLUSIVE TO BUY FOOD AND DRINK ELSEWHERE.
I was offered a token amount of euro's supposedly from the hotel through the rep but this only equated to one and a half drinks per person per day and acceptance can make complaints and compensation claims difficult.
They refused to transfer us to another hotel even when I said I would take self catering if they would refund the all inclusive part of the cost. and they refused to take us home and give our money back. LEFT A DISTINCT FEELING OF BEING HI-JACKED.
The Hotel itself was ok but with no childrens club or even space to play with a skipping rope and with bored kids it became depressing. Did manage a day trip to katmandu/Aqualand but at 256 euro's for the party and 55 euro's to eat out spending money didn't go far as we didn't expect to pay for outside entertainment to such an extent.
Could have had the same holiday with day trips to the local pool and take out food every night for a lot less money. The only difference was the sunshine which no holiday company can guarentee.
The hotel was adequate if you don't have kids but the resort is definatly a family orientated resort.
The hotel entertainment was very bland with bingo and a quiz and the usual insipid tribute bands who frequantly neither look or sound like the artist they imitating. I would not return even without kids as I wouldn't want to suffer other peoples kids who are bored.

We went to Clumba Mar in June 2007...
2 / 10
Jun 2008, Mrs G Cowan

We went to Clumba Mar in June 2007 and because the entertainment was so good we decided to book for June 2008, what a mistake!! There is no entertainment on a night what so ever, the only entertainment is a brief appearance of Clumba Cat, which how do you explain to a 4 year old that Clumba Car may not be coming every night!! There was no activities around the pool, such as pool competitions, or anything. We had heard before we went that Clumba Mar had a sickness bug, and oh yes it does, all six of us got the bug. My son even had it all the way home on the place, what a pleasant journey we had! I have never wanted to get home as much in my life. I feel for anybody who will be travelling to the Clumba Mar in the next couple of weeks, because so many people had the bug!! The reception are saying that the bug is in the air, if this was the case, why would they offer to pay for my husband to see a doctor??

Booked this holiday over 15 months...
1 / 10
Jun 2008, Mrs E Rhodes

Booked this holiday over 15 months ago for my birthday, Thompsons had plenty of time to make us aware of the problems they had at the Clumba Mar but failed to do so. Arrived on 5th June to a very nice welcome from Reception staff, but by the 7th my husband and myself were extremly ill with violent D&V and spent two days in bed, hence missing 2 days of the AI we paid for. A further 2 days of our AI were lost as we could not face the dining room and cost us 100 euro for food and drink until we felt able to go back into the restraunt. We reported the illness to the pathetic rep who had not made himself known to us, failed to invite us to the welcome meeting and failed to produce a welcome pack. He did not take names of the sick, just room numbers and how many in your party had been ill, and for how long. This was scribbled on a piece of paper, not an official form. A few days later I saw him give sickness report forms to other guests who had been ill and I confronted him with why had we not been given a form to fill in, he said it didnt matter as our illness would be reported and anyway......the bug had gone now so it was too late. However, guests were dropping like flies right up tp our departure on the 19th. Public Health Inspectors had been in yet the hotel kept on recieving guests. Everyone we spoke to had at least 2 members of their families affected, and yet they carried on as normal. Having spoken to the rep again, he tried to pass this off as something that had come in from the UK, then said it was airborne, then tried again with a 'virus in the area'. By the start of our second week I was in excrutiating pain and today (20th June) I visited my GP who tells me that as a direct result of the violent vomiting, I am in body shock, my muscles are in spasm and I have damaged a kidney. I am now on medication, in pain, and unable to return to my job on Monday. Thankyou Thompsons! The staff at Clumba Mar I had no problem with, all but one were very curteous, pleasant, polite, and one member of staff in particular, extremely kind during out illness when we could not source water at 2.30am. I have no desire to ever return to this hotel, it was not a cheap holiday and I feel Thompsons should be made to compensate for this sorry state of affairs. The well advertised Caraccas Bar was a shoddy washout, empty all night, and the food not very good either. Entertainment was a shambles, the only ones worth watching were the parrotts. Although we had no children with us, I strongly feel that we suffered a knock on effect from the fact that Thompsons decided not to open the kids clubs and failed to provide the kids with little more than a 30 minute disco on most nights, the kids were disgruntled and this made most of them bored and tetchy and I really didnt want to listen to that on what was planned to be a relaxing holiday for myself and my husband who work hard to pay for our holidays. The Rep was a total waste of space, only happy when on Facebook in the foyer or drinking in the Caraccas, suppose somebody had to keep the place open! He was useless and could not care less. If you are going to Clumba Mar in the near future and you have kids or elderly family going with you, think again, it could be the worse thing you ever do, its a danger zone. The food was OK, a bit repetative, not always warm, but there is a microwave in the dining room to heat it up! Our room was comfortable but we found ourselves on the service area of the hotel, bin men arrive early hours of morning, plates crashing 3 times a day before meal times and afterwards, the bottle bin was under our room and was being filled up constantly. Also, there is the local band over the road who love to practice on their balcony at approx 4am every morning. The walls in the rooms are like paper, and the last thing I wanted to hear was other guests going through their bouts of D&V. Anyone who feels the way we do, PLEASE place a review, we ALL have an issue with Thompsons, they have a duty of care to everyone of us as their clients and they failed to carry out that duty. They will have to compensate if enough of us do this, they have a case to answer. PLEASE think very carefully about going out there, I can guarantee you will regret it.

Before I start this is a very...
8 / 10
Jun 2008, Mr BJ H-Staffs

Before I start this is a very positive review, However If you’ve been to this Hotel before or have booked it for the first time and you were expecting a kids club, then you’ll be very disappointed.
There was no entertainment at all for those with children whilst we were at the Hotel and we were told that is the way it will remain.
Apparently there were four kids entertainers there last year and activities throughout the day, this year they get a half hour Kids Disco and that’s your lot.
I've noticed a lot of the reviews mention a bug, yes there is one on the island itself but not specifically at the Hotel Clumba Mar, only one person had an upset tummy to our knowledge while we were there for a full 10 days in June and he was fully recovered within 24hrs.
As for the staff, maybe one or two could have looked a bit happier but you try working 12 hours a day and speaking several languages fluently and booking people in and out, etc, would you be able to smile all the time, I guess not?
Would agree about the Thompson rep though, we agree he would have been more at home at a younger populated hotel, he had a guest girlfiriend while we were there and his real one was coming out from UK the following week. He would certainly know about the bars in resort though because he was in everyone we went into.Didn't speak a word of Spanish either which doesn't help.
There follows the original review I wrote prior to reding this site:
The Clumba Mar was recommended to us by a friend and it didn’t disappoint. The Hotel has just been refurbished, the rooms are nice and bright and ours was of a good size with two very comfortable beds, a good sized bathroom/shower and a good amount of storage space.
The dining room is air conditioned and the food was of a good standard, there was always something that appealed and that includes the soups and help yourself scoop ice cream.
People who class themselves as fussy eaters really should stay away from All Inclusive deals, I do wonder sometimes though if they have stayed in a UK Hotel recently, okay the food will be good but really is there much more choice?
The beer is San Miguel and together with the wine and soft drinks is help yourself in both the restaurant and both bars (One is at the Café over the road), yes there are plastic ‘glasses’ but these are for safety and if you really have a problem with them go buy a glass at one of the shops in the resort and hang onto it for the week.
Two good sized pools and lots of sundeck options, again at the main Hotel and the Café which is 50ft from the main steps of the Hotel.
The reception is manned by some of the nicest people I’ve met in Spain, especially Pedro who appreciates if you try a little Spanish, even if its just Bon Dia which is Majorcan for Good Morning/Day.
The entertainment was mixed but overall we enjoyed it, even the Parrot show was probably the best we’ve seen.
The Café over the road is good to chill out in at night, you can get hot snacks on all inclusive basis all through the day until 11:30pm, these include cheesy chips, hot dogs, nacho’s etc and as I said the beer is help yourself which does cut down on queuing.
From the Hotel you’re within walking distance of anywhere in the resort, the beach front is about five minutes maximum, there are plenty of bars nearby, we’ll mention Blondies next to the Hotel, its their first season and it’s a bit off the beaten track so they’re struggling a bit.
Out of the Hotel turn left and about three streets along are a few British Bars, quite laid back and we can only recommend Williams Bar as that was the only one we used, great pint of John Smiths and the food looked good.
The resort itself feels very safe and friendly, if you want the nightlife loud and heavy, the neighbouring resort of Alcudia is probably more for you, Can Picafort is really more for couples and families.
There is a Market in the resort on Friday which sells all sorts, there is one at Inca as well, apparently the biggest in Europe but it’s a long way and only the same stalls just more of them. There’s also one in Alcudia a couple of times a week.
Some nice shops as well along the front where there are more bars, some Greman some British some just Bars. All seemed nice.
That’s it really, we had a great time but we didn’t have kids to entertain, we would return and we would recommend BOTH hotel and Resort.

Jun 2008, Mr P Hardman

My wife and I along with our 7 year old boy are about to spend our 4th Holiday at the Clumba Mar, the previous 3 times we have been there have been so memorable hence the 4th visit, this will be the first time that we have will have been since its been all inclusive. I have read all the reviews and I must say I'm very surprised by some of the comments that I have read, The sickness bug I believe has been controlled, the hotel staff have been fantastic during our stays there and the night time entertainment was fantastic and the fact the hotel is now a totally "NO SMOKING" can only be good news.
The caracus bar had its own entertainment in the evenings and we spent many a long evening in there enjoying ourselves along with the staff who were all English.
Don't be put off this hotel by some of the comments made by what I think are people who just have to complain about something.

There is a vicious sickness bug at...
1 / 10
Jun 2008, Mrs C Lyes

There is a vicious sickness bug at the Clumba Mar its been around for several weeks and yet Thomsons are still sending people there. Only go if you want to be ill for your holiday. Approximately a third of the guests while we were there caught it including me. It was still going strong as we were leaving some one threw up all over the floor outside the dining room.
Hotel appeared clean but given the extent of the sickness bug they must have been doing something wrong.
Room - Basic but cleaned every day, about the only good point. No TV.
Food appalling - lukewarm if you were lucky but cold by the time you sat down. Appeared to be mainly deep fried frozen. Snacks at bar over road disgusting chicken or tuna sandwich was in fact just paste sandwiches.

No Kids Club at all. So loads of screaming kids all day around pool. No entertainment staff. Just half hour mini disco in the evening for kids.
Drinks - Plastic glasses not very clean. You are not allowed to have a bottle of water, only a glass of water not good when a bug is rampaging throughout to have to share bottles of water with everyone else. One night we took a bottle of water to our table and the waiter took it away saying we weren't allowed a bottle only glasses.
Thomson Rep - No rep on coach from airport. Resort rep a joke he didn't tell us about welcome meeting and didn't seem to care about guests when we raised our concerns with him, he was only interested in himself telling us how he'd given up a 35k a year job to be there.
To sum up the worst holiday I've ever had Hotel Clumba Mar DO NOT GO THERE

Jun 2008, Mr S Cav

where do i begin? my family stayed here for one week in june 2008 and we had the worst holiday of our lives.. we all were sick including my 1 year old and 5 year old. the rep admitted there was a bug within the hotel and had been there for some time, most of the people we spoke to at least half of their groups had also been sick.
entertainment or lack of, they put 2 hula hoops on stage for around 50 kids and expected this to be sufficient the kids club was not there and half the things described by thomson did not exsist.
the rep should have been in a club 18-30 hotel he really did not give a damn about any of the guests and was there to chat up any girl passing or get drunk in caracas bar. i would not wish this hotel on anyone the majority of the staff were ignorant especially the woman behind reception when i asked about the sick bug and informing the guests she replied " not really my problem im sure it will pass, the other guests said it lasts only 24 hours" charming lady.
as a frequent traveller you expect to get ill abroad every now and then but thomson had a duty to inform me of this bug especially with a baby and they admitted they knew but claimed all can picafort had the bug but that is crap as friends stayed in san baulo and no bug there... i will never use thomson again and please take my advice dont go there and ammend booking if you have already booked.

Horrible place, horrible staff,...

Jun 2008, Miss L Morris

Horrible place, horrible staff, Horrible food!!!! We had this holiday booked for nearly a year and were looking forward to going but I am left very dissapointed. The staff were very unwelcoming and unhelpful. My partner and one year old son were very ill during our stay, this was due to the lasagne from the hotel! Many guests also poorly due to this. The food is more often than not cold and very oily! The chef is often seen taking glasses of lager into the kitchen. Not very professional. We paid ALL INCLUSIVE but yet the hotel wanted to charge for chocolate and crisps, apparently these are not snacks??! The drinks are also watered down, fizzy drinks especially. Advertised as pepsi and seven up....no way. Very flat and very slimy. Put me off all inclusive, spain and thomson. The holiday rep was just out of school and was obviously there for a free holiday. Instead of dealing with our complaints, he was messing around the pool and chatting up young girls!!! Resort is in abundance with elderly and german folk, both living upto their miserable and ten ton stereo types respectively. I would not return here and would not recommend anyone else seeking a pleasurable holiday to. Dont waste your money!!!!
