went to the clumba mar in may after the thomson shop recomended it. when we got there we were very disapointed, some of the staff were very rude and most of them couldn't speak a word of english. the food was absolutely awful it made three of us ill for 3 days and the hotel staff blamed it on a so called bug that was going round. the thompson rep was some young lad that didn't have a clue what he was doing, he seemed more interested in getting drunk and smoking. he also lied to us, saying that he was going to move us hotels and basically he just fobbed us off all holiday. the snacks from across the road which i wouldn't feed to my dog was basically chicken paste and tuna paste sandwhiches, also you wasnt allowed any food in the hotel apart from at set meal times. there is no t.v/ hairdryers/radios in the rooms. the entertainment was crap, basically there wasn't any for the first eight days, and then finally when they did put some on it wasn't up to much. everbody in the hotel complained and was demanding some money back, which they did give us but it was only £70 which was nowhere near enough. c'an picafort is a lovely place and i'd recomend it to enyone but PLEASE TRUST ME AND STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL!!!!!!

My boyfriend and I have just returned from our weeks holiday at the Clumba Mar and thought we'd leave our comments about it.
Firstly the refurbished sections of the hotel are lovely. We also didn't meet one rude member of staff. The blonde girl on reception was very friendly and helpful. Always had a smile on her face. The hotel was also very clean all over.
Our rep wasn't very good in my opinion. We booked a trip to Marineland & Aqualand and on the day, the guide on the coach took us to Western Park instead of Aqualand which I wasn't very happy with. I had researched Western Park before the holiday and didn't want to go to that one, which is why we booked the Marineland/Aqualand trip. She told us we didn't go to Aqualand as it was out of season and closed which she said our rep should of told us. If we had known that, we wouldn't of booked it and would of booked to just go to Marineland instead saving us money.
Also I thought the food wasn't up to much either. Lunch was awful. Not much choice at all and food was pretty much always cold to lukewarm! When I told the rep about this he just said there wasn't much he could do about it as that's the way the spanish like it. Well i'm not spanish, i'm on holiday and they should be catering for their guests! There are also alot of germans there but you get that alot of hotels you go to but they were rather rude.
The location itself is fantastic. Couple of minutes walk from the beach and shops if that. Loads of shops and restaurants/bars nearby so was very happy with that. The pool over the road was the best one to be honest even though doesn't get sun till later in the day so the water can be rather cold. Never had a problem getting a sunbed though.
We will be writing to Thomson of our complaints so shall see what happens with that. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone, however I would say go to C'an Picafort just go to a different hotel.

This comment comes from 2 "normal" 40 year olds with "normal" expectations from a 3 star hotel - my partner and I have just returned from the Clumba Mar, as per the other reviews Pedro on reception was a helpful, smiley chap (the other man on reception managed to complete a whole transaction without making eye contact or speaking - CHARMING!) - we agree that the hotel was VERY clean and couldn't fault the room or the staff - our problem lied with the reps - I have written a letter to Thomson regarding our experiences so won't go into huge detail but we nearly managed to miss our flight thanks to the incompetence of the male rep (Matt) (the female rep (Emma) had an attitude, even though our problems were completely caused by Thomson and nothing to do with us - our advice is to TREBLE check with the rep which coach you should be on to return home as although they say they will call your names when you are in reception they won't and you won't be on their list anyway (which was there excuse!) With regard to the entertainment it was like walking into 1982 ! I half expected Mr T to turn up but would "pity the fool" if he had to sit through some of the acts that we saw - very very poor (but if you are more senior in years it may have some appeal), the breakfast was very good but lunch and dinner were luke warm and quite unpleasant - we arent that fussy but some of it had so much salt in you couldn't eat it - there was also a microwave so you could heat your food (one for the whole restaurant) (I also managed to crack a tooth on one of the chops - result!), the best part of the catering was the "sandwiches" (I use that term VERY loosely) at the Caracus bar - holey moley ! Tony asked for chicken and I asked for tuna - ha ha how we laughed - we couldn't tell which was which by the smell so we opened it to check - ha ha (again), the tuna sandwich (and I kid you not) was LITERALLY half a teaspoon of shiphams tuna paste stuck on some bread (no butter) and cut in half - if that is your idea of a sandwich then you will love it there ! In all seriousness the hotel was really let down by the food and entertainment, we met a few couples who had been going back there for years and had said it was the first year it had gone AI and it was ruined. We did have a good holiday (by eating out and visiting other hotels/bars in the hope of finding something we could tap our feet to) - alas !

My husband John and myself, both in our 70's have just returned on 26th September 2008 from our second holiday at the Clumba Mar Hotel.
The welcome we received was excellent with all the staff remembering us, a beautiful bouquet with a WELCOME BACK card attached and displayed in a glass vase was on the dressing table in our bedroom.
Cleanliness is A1 throughout the hotel, pillowcases and towels are changed daily, sheets twice a week.
The food is variable, well cooked, something to suit everyone, but beware if you are on a diet, the gateauxs and variety of cakes, ice creams etc., are a joy to the beholder and taste as wonderful as they look.
The all inclusive option gives you the opportunity to 'pull your own San Miguel' and also to help yourself to red and white wines virtually throughout the day, in the dining room.bar and the Caracas Bar where you could, if you wanted to, ;'stuff yourself all day'
with chips,sandwiches and ice creams!!!
ALL the staff are so friendly and helpful it really makes you feel so happy to be on your holidayat Clumba Mar.
We would recommend this holiday to everyone that wants a happy-go-lucky holiday.
We would also congratulate the Thompson Travel Company for their organisation to their clients from Airport to destination and return, also for the excellent 'emergency number' you can contact when required as wedid when we left our coats on the coach.
they were tracked and returned to us at
the hotel within 25 minutes.
We have already made up our minds that in 2009 there is only one hotel we want to spend our holiday at - THE CLUMBA MAR.

just got back from clumba mar on sunday morning, hotel was very clean and pedro on reception was really helpfull. entertainment was ok for the over 50's !! so if your in yer 20's forget it ! resort was ok, nice beach lots of bars and restaurants, but they were a bit expensive. i can recommend blondies bar which is just over the road. also if yo go into carracas bar after 11.20 pm, dont expect to get any food !!! even though its 11.30 they say they stop serving food !! can recommend the island tour. if weather is bad then you will be really bored, because theres nothing to do inside !! overall it was ok but wont rush to go back there ! ps, i love cheesy chips !!

Breakfast brilliant, Lunch fair could do with less fried food, Dinner brilliant, wine and beer self services brilliant although if it was in a real glass it would be better. Sprits very strong and need to be in a glass really. Pools excellent, beach 200yds away excellent. Rooms basic but spotless. Hotel spotless and staff very helpfull.
Watch out for northern bed baggers who push pass you even thought they moaned about queing i even had one norhern git throw his towel on to a bed just before i did and then claim it for him self. We used the beach thereafter as i couldnt stand queing for a sun bed with that type of person.
I would easily reccomend this holiday to anyone.

I placed a review on here back in June when the Clumba Mar was in the grip of a vicious bug and at a time when I was extremely ill due to contracting this virus. 10 weeks later I have today at last returned to work after contracting this virus in Clumba Mar. I looked on here today to see if things at the hotel had improved, because yes, the staff were brilliant and despite the fact that we were ill and the kids club and other things had been cancelled without notice, the area was lovely and Pedro was a star. It is good to see that activities have been re introduced for the kids and it seems the virus has at last moved on. The reason I place this on here today is simple, reading through the latest reviews from guests, I notice a lot mention that the negative reviews that have been posted have been placed there by silly people with nothing better to do and who are obviously never happy and never satisfied. I beg to differ, I am a health care professional and I knew that the virus was not just an airbourne problem outside the hotel as the rep at the time tried to tell us. I placed my review to hopefully make other guests travelling out there aware of this serious problem. Cutting a very long story short, this resulted in my admission to hospital for over one week, morphine for the pain (yes the pain!) as the virus had infected and damaged my kidneys. Still visiting the renal unit of my hospital on a fortnightly basis and still on antibiotics 8 weeks down the line, the virus was at last identified just last Friday. For those of you who wrote we who had been so ill were whining over nothing, I can now confirm the bug I had at Clumba Mar was none other than E COLI and suspected to be from contaminated water as the other main reason for E Coli is undercooked Beef, I ate no beef whilst out there. No doubt this was present in the water from the hot drinks machine, the coffee and tea was flooded with a slimey greasy film, and I did stop drinking it after I became ill on my third day there. Well then Thomsons, what is your response to that? I have had serious ill health since my visit there, lost 8 weeks at work, 1 stone in weight, admitted to hospital on morphine, on long term medication and it only cost me just over a grand!!! Should I ever get an apology from Thomsons I will of course share it with Watchdog, fair is fair.
Well i haven't long got back...

Well i haven't long got back from Majorca and i thought i might aswell give my opinion on Hotel Clumba Mar.
I thought it was absolutly brilliant, your paying for a three star hotel and you get a three star hotel. It is very well presented and the rooms are very clean, the staff are extremely friendly especially the barstaff in the evenings as they are always smiling. The Food Was Delicious and there was a wide veriety, there is also a dress code in the evenings which i thought was very good. The pool is very good but it does get quite deep so if you have young children you should keep an eye on them, there is another pool and bar across the road which is with the hotel and that is also very good. The entertainment was not the best but it was ok and there was always bingo and a quiz to keep you occupied. The location could not get any better as it is literally a two minute walk from the beach and shops. And To Top It All The Weather Was Stunning .
I Will Definitely recommend this hotel and i will definitely consider going back there.
I hope my comment was helpful and if you are going on holidays i hope you have a nice time.

JUST ARRIVED BACK FROM THE CLUMBA MAR WHERE I STAYED WITH MY HUSBAND FOR A WEEKS ALL INCLUSIVE. I MUST ADMIT I WAS A LITTLE WORRIED WHEN I READ THE REVIEWS BUT THOUGHT WELL ITS BOOKED SO WE'LL JUST WAIT AND SEE FOR OURSELVES. WE ARRIVED ABOUT 12.30 AM, THE CHAP ON RECEPTION WAS LOVELY AND REALLY CHATTY AND IN FORMAL. THE ROOM WAS FINE, CLEAN WITH THE USUAL FIXTURES AND FITTINGS. I ALREADY KNEW THEY'D BE NO TV OR HAIRDRYER(HAD TOOK MY OWN) I CAN'T SAY WE MISSED A TV. WE HAD A LOVELY VIEW DOWN THE ROAD TO THE BEACH. IT WAS ABIT NOISY IN THE EARLY HOURS WHEN THEY EMPTIED THE BOTTLE BANK AND THE ROAD SWEEPER PAID US A VISIT, BUT ON THE WHOLE NO NOISE FROM HOLIDAYMAKERS. THE ONE DRAWBACK FOR MY HUBBY WAS THE QUEUING TO PUT TOWELS ON THE SUNBEDS OVER THE ROAD AT THE CARACUS BAR POOL. THEY DIDN'T OPEN THE GATE TIL 9.00 BUT PEOPLE QUEUED FROM 8.00 ONWARDS! THE FOOD WAS OK, ABIT LUKEWARM FOR US AND THE CHOICE WASN'T VERY VARIED, BUT ON THE WHOLE ITS A 3 STAR HOTEL AND YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. WE WENT TO THE WELCOME MEETING(ONLY BCAUSE IT WAS RAINING AT THE TIME! THE REP A NICE YOUNG LAD(WHO'S NAME IVE UNFORTUNATELY FORGOT) WAS VERY INFORMATIVE, ABOUT THE RESORT AND HOTEL. WE DIDN'T GO ON ANY TRIPS, NOT THAT WE DIDN'T WANT TO, BUT WE THOUGHT THEY WERE SO OVERPRICED. TO BE HONEST YOU CAN GET THE LOCAL BUS FOR A FEW EUROS AND GO TO ALCUDIA PORT WHICH IS NICE, ALSO GO INTO PALMA FOR ABIT OF SIGHTSEEING, THERE'S A LOVELY WATERPARK IN ALCUDIA ABOUT 5 MINS WHEN YOU GET OF THE LOCAL BUS. NOW FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT- THERE IS A KIDS DISCO AT 8.30 WHICH IS OK, THEN A QUIZ AND BINGO, BUT THE ENTERTAINMENT AFTER THAT IS DIRE! THERE WAS A GROUP CALLED SWEET DREAMS WHO EMPTIED THE BAR AREA APART FROM A FEW TABLES! A PARROT SHOW(SAME AS WHAT YOU SEE YEAR AFTER YEAR), AN OLDISH BLOKE WITH SPARKLY SHIRT WHO SHOULD REALLY BE IN BLACKPOOL OR SOMEWHERE! I WOULD SAY THE BEST ACT WAS THE ROBBIE WILLIAMS TRIBUTE ACT. YOU'VE PAID FOR THE ALL INCLUSIVE DRINKS , SO YOU'D EXPECT TO ENJOY THE EVENING ENTERTAINMENT, I THINK ALOT OF PEOPLE WENT OUT BECAUSE OF THIS, BUT ITS SEEMS POINTLESS GOING OUT TO BUY YOUR DRINKS WHEN YOU'RE ALL INCLUSIVE. I WOULD SUGGEST YOU TAKE A PACK OF CARDS WITH YOU, TO KEEP YOU ENTERTAINED! DAYTIME ENTERTAINMENT WAS FINE, QUIZ AND DARTS AND POOL AND WATER GAMES IN THE AFTERNOON. I WOULD SAY ITS GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY, IF YOU WANT A BASIC 3 STAR ALL INCLUSIVE HOLIDAY IN A LOVELY RESORT, NEAR THE BEACH, ESPECIALLY IF YOU'VE GOT A FAMILY WHO EAT AND DRINK LOTS, AND AT THE END OF THE DAY YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!

I have just returned from the Clumba Mar yesterday (15th aug 2008). Please ignore all bad reviews below!!! This Hotel was a "get what you pay for" and a bit more.
For a three star hotel it was excellent.
Food :
Breakfast was good...probably the best spanish impersonaision of a full english breakfast i have ever tasted!! (better than some 5* hotels ive stayed in)
Yogurt, ham, cheese, fresh pastries (including pain au choclates!!!)
Lunch was probably not as good, but always fresh salad, chips for the kids, nuggets, spring rolls. Always somthing to satisfy ur appitite.
Evening meal was also good, soup, salad, mains and dessert. I only stayed for a week, so not sure if the same food on a weekly rotation or not.
The desserts that were on offer were great...look out for the coffee mouse cake sprinkled with coco...mmmm... think this put a stone on me lol
Drinks :
Beer (san miguel) Kas lemon and Orange, Pepsi Two slush puppy flavours, white wine and red wine (red served chilled....how strange) all self service at the Pool, dinner and evening meal.
Behind the bar you find ur local spirits....everything from vodka to baileys immatation.
Only down point was all drinks are served in small plastic cups. You need three glasses of beer for a pint. Oh well at least ur excersised while ur stuffing ur face lol
Pool :
We found the best pool to be across the road at the caracus bar, just get up early with ur towels...i think the brits are turning a bit german. Gates open at 9, we were cueing at 8.30 to make sure we got prime sun bathing position lol
Also at caracus bar there are snacks served untill 11.45 at nite. These include nachos, cheesy chips, chips, hotdogs (which were a little anemic but ok all the same) and sandwiches.
On our second day an entertainment team turned up, A skin head southerner and changed between two girls. They did a morning quiz, volleyball in the pool, water polo, killer darts, killer pool.
Although the adults joined in the ball games, which got a bit irate . Great entertainment though.
Please ignore all the moaning people on here, they are just moaning, we heard some by the pool, i cant eat one woman said, she was 38 and a size 6!!! I thought well force yourself lol, no joking apart, she said she had spent a fortune on fruit......there was fresh fruit at evening meal and breakfast!!! She had to be an anorexic. Try goin in at meal times love!!
Anyone who is scheduled to go....dont worry....u'll have a blast!!!!!!
Just got back and thoroughally...

Just got back and thoroughally enjoyed our Two weeks there. Hotel and Staff were all brilliant. Food, cleanliness were both very good. I agree with all the people who have given this Hotel a good reveiw, as for anybody giving it a bad report, you only get what you pay for, ie 3 star and not 5 star, but having said that you can't please all the people all the time!
The Hotel is in a great location for the beach, shops Bars etc.

i must have been visiting a different hotel......
we stayed here for two weeks for our honeymoon along with our 3 year old son!!
we were told on booking that there was a thomson run kids club.....there wasnt!
we were told there was evening entertainment....ok there was a 20 minute disco..
we had all our belonging riffled through in our room on more than one occasion and had things stolen on two occasions!! thought this might have been a one off but spoke to atleast 15 other people staying there at the time who also had property stolen!!
The hotel manager wasnt interested and basically called us all liers!!! nice bloke!!
so in the end had to call the police in!!
food was ok!! could have had a bit more of a choice!!
pools where lovely and didnt have to fight for a sunbed!!!
perfect location.....5 mins walk and your on the beach!!
hotel itself was clean and tidy and most staff were friendly...just ashame about the few bad points which ruined a honeymoon!"!!!!

Firstly - sorry it's a long review but after the recent, unjustified reviews, we want to set the record straight.....
My husband and I and our two daughters have just arrived back from the Clumba Mar and had a great time. After seeing the bad reviews we were a bit concerned but all I can say is, if you've booked and are also worried - don't be, the hotel is immaculate, the food good, staff lovely, pools great with loads of space and the location is perfect (about 50 yards from the shops and 200 yards to the gorgeous beach)...... and THERE IS NO BUG (the ONLY people we met who'd been ill were children who'd brought a bug with them from their nursery - and you'd get this anywhere hense, it's hardly the hotels fault!!).
Previous reviews have suggested that the re-use of the plastic glasses was causing a bug at the Clumba Mar yet, we know from first hand experience, that ALL the glasses were washed in dishwashers at this hotel (which is why most were still hot to the touch when put on the shelves ready for use !!) and this eliminates bacteria. The people who complained (on previous reviews) about having to use plastic glasses instead of real glasses should maybe read up on Spanish law before moaning as they would then know that real glasses are NOT permitted in any pool areas or surrounding pool bar/cafe areas in Spain for obvious safety reasons. In any case, 'real' glasses would be washed in exactly the same way as the plastic ones! ALL the 4* hotels we've been to have ALSO used plastic glasses in these areas so believe me, it's NOT just at the Clumba Mar. The Clumba Mar has wine glasses in the main restaurant so if you're 'that' fussy, you could always pour your Pepsi or beer into one of these during dinner.
ALL the staff showed the utmost cleanliness at this hotel and the pool/bar/restaurant areas remained immaculate at all times. Not only this but the NON-SMOKING environment made a welcome change and was lovely for us and our children.
Breakfast = Full English + Continential. The sausages and eggs were first class. NEVER did we find a hard egg yolk - even with the 'dippy eggs'.
Lunch = Buffet style in the smaller of the 2 hotel restaurants OR choice of snacks at the Caracus bar by the bigger pools. Buffet = Salads, Veg, Meats, Fish, Chips, Various Fruit, Cakes. Caracus Bar = Nachos with salsa & melted cheese, choice of sandwiches, hot-dog, chips.... ALL snacks are made fresh to order at the Caracus bar and the bar itself is air-conditioned, even though it is next to the swimming pool. Like the main hotel areas, this was very clean.
Dinner = Probably not as much choice as some 4* hotels we've been to but that said, still more than enough and very good quality (far better than we expected for a 3* hotel!). Dishes included fresh prawns, sword fish, salmon, paella, steak, lamb cutlets, mussels in a tomato/herb sauce, veal, pork, chicken pieces (inc. loads of breast pieces!), steak caserole, lasagne..... There was also the usual soup with mini french sticks, chips, potatoes, gravy, vegetables and a large selection of salads/pasta/rice/cheeses/ham.... There was also a childrens' selection in the corner. The deserts were great - gateaux, various cakes, creme caramel, jelly, custards, fresh fruit, cream and 4 flavous of icecream.
Ice cream is also available in little tubs during the day at both the Caracus and main hotel bars.
Drinks = Beer and soft drinks all self-serve. Spirits ARE NOT watered down at the Clumba Mar unlike at the local nigh clubs!! We tasted both and belive me, the Clumba Mar measures hit the spot far quicker than the drinks purchased elsewhere! NB: if you don't like the fizzy drinks or strong squash-type juices, just ask the bar for fresh juice and you'll get it (i.e the equivalent to Tropicana etc).
We normally book 4* hotels and to be honest, the ONLY difference we found between our usual hotels and the Clumba Mar is that at the Clumba Mar we had no hair-dryer or TV. We didn't miss these things at all and were very pleased with our room which had ample space and a lovely view. When we reported that the guard on our daughter's bed was a bit wobbly, it was fixed immediately. We didn't have to ask for extra pillows as there was already 2 per person and the AIR CONDITIONING WAS GREAT IN OUR ROOM AND THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE HOTEL!
Some guests reported that money/items were stolen from their rooms which we find hard to believe as we travelled with another family and we ALL left an assortment of electrical gadgets, watches and jewellery around and NONE were taken. We did however, do the sensible thing and hire a safe (approx 30E) for our documents, cards, money etc and let's face it, if you don't want to get anything stolen, don't leave it lying around in the first place!
The balcony doors gave very good sound proofing to our room and to be honest, the ONLY noise we heard during the night was the occasional moped as in Spain, they don't have noise restrictions on these vehicles. The walkways in the hotel are carpeted so you don't even get noise from guests' shoes!
OVERALL A GREAT FAMILY HOLIDAY AND WE'D NOT HESITATE TO BOOK AGAIN. WE'RE USED TO LARGE HOTELS AND THIS WAS LOVELY BY COMPARISON AS IT WAS FAR MORE FRIENDLY BOTH IN THE BARS AND AROUND THE POOLS. IT WAS LOVELY TO BE ABLE TO WALK AROUND THE POOL AREAS WITHOUT TRIPPING OVER ROWS AND ROWS OF SUN-BEDS AND EVEN MORE OF A LUXURY TO FIND THAT YOU COULD STILL GET A SUNBED AT 10AM AT THE END OF JULY!
We booked with LOWCOSTBEDS WHO WERE A NIGHTMARE FROM BEGINNING TO END SO WE WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THEM AT ALL. The hotel though was our saving grace and a great relief after all the TERRIBLE MISTAKES AND DISGUSTING CUSTOMER SERVICE WE'D RECEIVED FROM LOWCOSTBEDS prior to our travel. So, GO TO THE CLUMBA MAR BUT DON'T USE LOWCOSTBEDS! Book direct and use a lowcost airline.
We have only just returned from...

We have only just returned from Clumba Mar and this is our second visit. (For those regular visitors to the hotel... please note that we have been advised that it is returning to a half board hotel for 2009).
The hotel is immaculate. Well Air Conditioned and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Pedro and Breada at Reception are always very helpful. Whilst Toni over in Caracus is a star..... Pedro is a font of knowledge and only to willing to help you.
Food is fine... an ample selection for a 3* Hotel. The fruit and vegetables are so tasty. This year they have installed a help your self to soft drinks, lager and wine policy in all the bars. With only spirits being bar service. This was great no queues at the bar and no-one abused this either. On the subject of queues ther was no queing for sunbeds at 8am. like last year. Although we did note that the hotel was a little quieter this year
Our only complaint this year would be the lack of entertainment, we were not impressed and had to seek entertainment elsewhere in the resort. Paul the guy who does the mini disco is a really nice guy but needs to learn to move things along a little. Tony Ritchie (The Neil Diamond tribute is a joke..... Time for him to give up the ghost. He just isn't funny.. told the same jokes both Fridays that he appeared in the hotel and they were the same as last year.... I'm by no means a prude either but some of his jokes were totally inappropriate for the youngsters there.
On a whole I would return to the hotel and would recommend it.. It's just a shame that it's returning to half boarf
