Hotel clean, however meals lacked imagination. 2 days out of 7 there were potatoes and on the others there were only chips or wedges, hardly the thing to go with roast lamb or chicken. All vegetables were either frozen or tinned. Puddings every day consisted of jelly,... more

We have just returned from a great holiday in Alcudia. The astoria was an excellent choice - tne staff were first class the food great and the roomd excellent. My only complaint was that the 5 euros for the crazy golf was crazy. Bill Gray

Billiant Budget
Right, just to give you an idea, 6 of us went: me - 20 years old my gf - 20 years old my sister - 18 years old sisters gf - 19 years old mum & dad - (they wouldnt be happy with me saying, but older) Anyway, we went half board for a week on a budget and really enjoyed ourselves. The hotel itself was clean, spacious rooms and an all round nice atmosphere. Only downside was the resteraunt. As you would have heard the head waitor was rude, awkward and unhelpful. We accepted table sharing but we thought 6 of us wouldnt need to share a table, although a few mealtimes we had to sit seperatley which wasnt great. However eating was only a small part of the day and the remainder was great. Pool was a disapointing size but you're within spitting distance of the beach and it can be walked within minutes, lovely huge beach. Rentable sunlougers and umbrellas cover part of the area however you can always set up your own area for free and at the back of the beach very few people sit leaving lots of room to play games, run around or sit quietly. Portaloo, beach bar and beach football pitch all there when we were there. Beach was kept very clean. Although we didnt spend daytimes round the pool from what we head the daytime animation wasnt very fun. At night its not easy to find night clubs which the youngest 4 of the party wanted to find, there are a couple about though and good at that. Bars that arent the "typical english pub" can also be awkward and they are fairly pricy but the entertainment will make up for it. If youd rather stay at the hotel (which is only a minute or two walk from the main night life) then the hotels entertainment may vary. Good for familys but it finishes early (about 10 - 11). Check before you decide to stay in at the hotel. One night we had a small circus on stage, the next we had a relly clever parrot show where parrots did various tricks but the third some hotel staff dressed up as nuns and did a strange show (however the terrible ones are the funny ones). All in all it was a very enjoyable holiday and would go back. Advise to families, couples but probably not singles.
excellent
just back from astoria playa stayed from 11 october for 7 nights. cant fault this hotel. very clean. food of a reasonable standard.bear in mind everything starts to shut down this time of year so its a bit quiet but very laid back if you are looking for a quiet relaxing time. would definately stay here again.
Great Location, food and cleanliness
Stayed at the Astoria Playa in the first week of October. 11 month old baby's first trip abroad so somewhat aprehensive before arrival, but pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness of the whole hotel and friendly waiting and bar staff. We were lucky to have a socket in the bedroom area as well as the bathroom so we could plug in a night light as the lights were a bit full-on as you couldn't switch on just one. If you are travelling with a baby/toddler would recommend that you take a harness to strap them into the highchairs as they were a bit antiquated to say the least and had no restraining straps. Apart from that, the cot was up to standard and the sheets changed reguarlary, the rooms are carpeted and we were grateful to have a 1st floor room not overlooking the entertainment. The pool could have done with being a bit warmer so the baby could have enjoyed it, as it was we were so lucky with the weather that we went to the beach most days anyway, which was faultless. The restaurant was great with a fantastic variety of fresh food and they didn't seem to mind messy fingers all over the fresh white table linen - sorry Cesar! Top tip - Wear plenty of insect repellant if you go round the crazy golf course, we didn't but other members of our party did and got bitten to death! All in all, a relaxing break. Would def go again - Thank you.
perfect
my goodness there are some moaning folk on here, what a lovely hotel, why on earth do you want a telly in your room for your two weeks holl, STAY AT HOME IF YOU CANT MANAGE WITHOUT THE TELLY . above all the whole staff are all helpfull and cant do enough if asked, which is a first after five years of going to alcudia,,,, food....... best yet in alcudia, not the usual predictable menu after the first week, very very nice, cant comment on the pool, as we always go to the beach, but the beach opposite isnt so good, do as we did , hire a car or get a taxi and go to the beach next to the condesa de la bahia, only a mile away ,, but less crowded and much nicer, out of the hotel, right , right, and left at the petrol station.. best maid service ever.... also cant comment on the enterainment, as we like to hit a local bar,, lol.. believe it or not the best place is hermans outside the hotel , such a nice couple, if you cant get a seat he will sort you out, deff going back there. make sure you miss one meal at night time and go to the bodesa , best food in the port, stunning,,,,,,, and there are many chinese places, best one is also in the port, go early, its near the taxi drop off point upstairs, wonderfull view overlooking bay. grandchina ) .... all in all the best hotel weve found yet in alcudia, going back as soon as poss, also we were on the top floor, and the lifts are small but never had a problem getting one. as in some places.. top floor is best as so much going on in early hours.. thankyou for reading, and will folk please stop moaning about no telly and other such non essentials, ( the sun was too hot ) ( the sea had fish in it ) ( no telly ) ( the beach was sandy ) .. such a nice nice place. my local beach, in skegness brrrrrrrrrr, if any one could let me know of a hotel there that is about £400. per person , breakfast, and evening meal. for 2 weeks .. AND that includes, flying us from mallorca, and transfers. i doubt it.. dont forget warm sea, and lovely sunshine.. so go enjoy the astoria playa in mallorca
OK, but could be better.
We have just returned from our stay here at Hotel Astoria Playa. The Reception Staff were very polite and pleasant. The Hotel and rooms were very clean. The pool is very small and dis-appointing and we also found the Restaurant staff and Bar staff rude and unhelpful, especially the Head Waiter. The Restaurant has a sharing table system, but fortunately our paths never crossed with the other diners except for one night. We requested another table as my husband and I wished to dine alone, which seemed a problem for the Head Waiter Ceaser. Even though he eventually moved us to another table, he was very rude and had a bad attitude, as it seemed like a major chore for him to his job!! This was the attitude throughout the whole restaurant during our stay here. We made a complaint to the Manager who spoke to him and the next day he was very pleasant. What a surprise!!! Only positive cooment I can make out of this hotel is that reception and cleaning staff were very pleasant and excellent, but we feel the restaurant and bar staff lwt the hotel down. They seemed to treat older guest with more respect and politeness than they did the younger guest. Would not return to this hotel in thr future due to the above, but it was good value for money!!
very pleased
pleasantly surprised, picked this hotel mainly because it rated highly on cleanliness. Rooms were clean, would have liked extra socket only one and that is in bathroom. Cannot fault staff, first class especially bar staff and receptionist. Beach very near just over road(can get busy, best use crossings) No tv in room but two large televisions in bar, played the England match whilst we were over there. Pool quite small but never had any trouble getting a place, probably because most would want to be on the beach, which is excellant lots of facilities, toilets, cafes, boat hire, paragliding etc. Entertainment in hotel not up to much but plenty of bars, shops and cafes, surrounding hote,l to spend evening in. Overall a very nice holiday and the hotel grew on me the longer I was there mainly down to the excellant staff who could not do enough, special mention to Toni the barman works hard and still stays cheerful, and the lady on reception sorry do not remember her name but was extremely helpful especially in arranging our day out to Palma gave us all details of bus and taxi fares and let us know which stop we were to get off. Thankyou
Astoria Playa great value for money
I have just returned from spending a week at this hotel. It was definitely value for money. There was always a good selection of food, at breakfast and at dinner. If you go in a two, you do have to share a table. However, we ate at different times and very rarely saw the couple we shared ours with. You sit at the same table throughout your stay. The bar staff were by far the most helpful. You don`t have to queue at the bar for drinks, they will bring the drinks over to you. The entertainment was not very good. There were two German reps that seemed to do all the entertainment between themselves. There was the kids disco and bingo every day.Our room did overlook the pool and bar and did get a bit noisy at night. However the noise did usually stop by midnight. Lots of bars and restaurants nearby, but the noise from these never really bothered us. The best thing about this hotel is the location. Its a 5 min walk to the beach. The beach is the best place to go in the daytime, as the hotel pool is too small. Besides the pool the only other thing that disappointed me was the cleaning standards of the housekeeping staff. Our room wasn`t hoovered for the entire week and one day the beds weren`t even made! This didn`t bother me too much, as i was having a good holiday. The rooms are basic though, no kettle or TV. It was also lacking in plug sockets. But i was pleasantly surprised by the hotel and would go back again.
would definitely return
We have just returned from a week at the Astoria Playa in Alcudia. Can not fault the accomodation rooms were bright and roomy and kept very clean daily. The food and restaurant were more than we expected and managed to cater for all our family including both my daughters one who is vegetarian and one who has a nut allergy. George the head waiter (who was very friendly and efficient) took my daughter to the buffet and told her which food was suitable for vegetarians. There was not a huge choice but she always had something she liked and there were plenty of sweet alternatives for both daughters. The staff were very polite and the service was excellant even though at times the restaurant staff were stretched. We cannot fault the service of the bar staff and they even made up cocktails which wre much nicer that the bottled variety. We never bothered to make the morning dash for the sunbeds by the pool, preffering to go to the lovely sandy beach just across the road. The main road is busy adn you do need to take care but the beach and sea m,ore than make up for it.
Happy to stay again
We have just returned from a holiday at the Astoria Playa lasting one week. Yes, the entertainment is a little amateur but enthusiastic - the staff are all extrem. helpful and friendly and its very child friendly. My friend has a gluten free diet and George the restaurant manager pointed out what was ok to eat - each day the food was excellent, very varied - sorry but there is LOADS of different salads, fruit, rice, pasta, and fish available chips were available every day presumably for kiddies but apart from that we ate very well and didn't need lunch! No upset tummies either. We were offered to either have the same table and a time to eat and then share with someone or we could sit at a different table each meal and wait to be seated at a set time which we opted for - however George was very easy going and we did come late and early a few times and he accommodated us whenever he could - if you want to eat at a different time he will try to help you but if not you might have to wait and come at the alloted time - seems pretty fair to me. The pool area is small but ok - we sat in the gardens on sun beds that were by the back gate but to be honest the 12 mile beach of Alcudia is absolutely beautiful so why sit round the pool when its 5 mins walking away - it is a busy road to cross but we managed it with a young child. There was limited plugs in our room but we simply charged one thing up a night (the electric only works when you are in the room. But we found the room to be very clean, freshly painted and big enough for two ladies and a 9 year old and his bed was full size. We all slept well even though there is a busy road. We would return to this hotel as have many other people staying there - many over 6 return visits, so its not that bad is it? I went on the Astoria's website prior to our holiday and the pictures of the rooms on there were exactly like the one we stayed in.
Never Again!
For those of you contemplating a stay at this hotel, I would first advise you to take into consideration the following points. These are our findings and thoughts having just returned following a week's stay and are our expressed views only. RECEPTION: (5 / 10) Extremely clean, tidy and well presentsed, although a little basic. ROOMS: (6 / 10) Upon arrival, our room was not at all what we asked for. It was very small, and not per the description outlined in the JUST broucher. However, when we complained to the rep, he managed to swap rooms for us which is what we originally requested. All the rooms are very basic in design and not that well equiped. There is no television nor is there is point to plug one in and there are only two eletrical sockets...One above the bed and one in the bathroom. The bed we thought was a touch hard also. RESTERAUNT: (4 / 10) One aspect that we did not like was that of table sharing considering the apparent abundance of seating arrangements. However, if, like us, you wish not to share, then just inform the Head Waiter at each meal time and he will guide you to a table. The only problem with this is that a time was allocated for us to eat. The variety of food was poor and tasted greasy and no vegeterian options were available. TERRACE: (8 / 10) Not a great deal of space between sun beds, nor were there enough umbrellas and as a result, we felt that we were encrouching on our fellow hoiday maker's space. However, on the whole, it was very good. STAFF: (10 / 10) The one aspect of the holiday that we can not fault. They were extremely customer focused, freindly and bent over backwards to assist you. BAR SERVICES: (10 / 10) This is another aspcect of the holiday that we could not fault, particaully to a waiter named Toni. They insisted that you take a seat for them to wait you. Within a few minutes of finding a suitable seating position, the waiters took our order and served. - OUTSANDING! ENTERTAINMENT: (2 / 10) Possibly the worst selection of activites and shows we have ever had the privelage to see. The day time activies were not all that intersting. For example, would you call throwing a large dice made of foam 5 times to sum the number of dots shown, to work out who had the highest score? The answer is NO! Each day we would watch nearly three quarters of the residence turn down the chance to participate in the games - (I wonder why??!!) Killer Darts, Kiiller Pool, French Bowles etc would have been much more intersting and fun. The shows in the evening were even worse. No imagination had obviously been used to capture the audiences attention. For eample, every night Bingo was held followed by one of the "fantastic" shows, ie a show that the reps themselves delivered which was supposed to be humerous. Do you think one person laughed? You'd be wrong if you think yes!. In general the holiday island of Mallorca is extremly beautiful, clean and friendly. Nothing is ever too much trouble for any of the locals and service in bars, resteraunts, shops etc was outstanding. The above review may seem a little harsh, however we do not see the hotel in the same light as past customers. I would rate this hotel as 2 star plus.
