We booked for this half term week and were surprised to get the accommodation for £480 for a 2 bedroom apartment. We found the apartment spacious and clean. The hotel facilities were good and the staff helpful and friendly.
There is a super beach opposite through the pine trees and an excellent beach restaurant overlooking the crystal clear sea. We ate at this place every lunchtime as the kids then ran around the beach and into the sea giving us some peace.
We had baby sitting arranged with the booking company for 3 nights and travelled into Algerho where we were a little disappointed by the quality of fine dinning available. The nights we took the kids out we had great pizza as you would expect but fine Italian cooking was not on offer in the restaurants we found.
It did get a bit cold in Oct so we filled our mornings with excursions. We had hired a car so could roam freely. Neptune’s grotto was very good. This is a limestone cave system with very impressive stalagmites/tites. Be prepared for the 650 steps down to it. Alternatively, I think you can arrive by boat from Alghro. The kids also enjoyed the Stone Age tombs carved into the rock about 10 km from Algero. I was surprised that they were allowed to wander into these caves/excavations without any restriction despite the tombs dating back to 3,300 BC. The ticket office even allowed us to borrow their torch to we could get into the small dark rooms.
All in all a good holiday. If we had to complain it would be that the water tank in the apartment was too small for everybody to shower and that the heating system seemed erratic. But these problems would only be experienced if you are attending early or late season as we did.
I imagine it would make a super place for a family holiday in the high season.

Jul 2007, Miss R Findlay

I so enjoyed this holiday and would heartily recommend both the hotel and Sardinia.
We had perfect weather and the scenery was gorgeous - turquoise waters, beautiful white sandy beaches (particularly those beyond Fertilia) and blue skies daily.
Alghero is a lovely town with fabulous smart shops, which were hard to resist, and it has many lovely bars and restaurants, some of which overlook the exquisite marina.
The Oasis is a friendly, well-run place and the food is exceptionally good. I looked forward to the lavish breakfasts and the evening dinner which boasted four courses each day of gorgeous delights. It was hard to resist going up and down to the buffet time and again for more.
The rooms were also very nice - a good size and kept very clean. One of the big plus points was that we did not encounter any mosquitoes and you could have air conditioning for very hot nights for a few extra Euros.
The pool was large and clean and I used the exercise bike there to try to shed the extra pounds gained from over-indulging at the buffet.
All in all, a great holiday and one I would thoroughly recommend.

Having just returned from two weeks...

Aug 2006, Mr M Robertson

Having just returned from two weeks holiday, I must say I was very disappointed with Sardinia. The Oasis was a nice hotel, food was good.
The entertainment was pretty bad, it was a choice of Bingo, Karaoke or Hawaiian night, which they repeated every three days. We stayed on the beach all the time which was ok, except that the Hotel charged for a sun bed & Deck-chair on their own piece of reserved beach, and the guy on the beach was un-willing to let us have two sun beds, even though half the hotel area was empty.
The locals also come down from 3pm, and so going into the sea is a no-no. This was the feeling I got from the whole island, they do not want tourists there, everything closes for 3-4 hours a day, even the tourist sights, As for their drivers, I'm not sure what the local bribe is for getting a driving license, but judging by how they drive, it isn't very much.
We drove to Cagliari but as it took 3 hours to get there we were just in time for everything to shut, and the only advice from the Tourist Information, is that we go have something to eat for 3 hours! I would strongly advise you avoid this island, and go somewhere else , I will not be sitting foot on it again.

Read the reviews before my holiday...

Read the reviews before my holiday and was worried that the Oasis would be disappointing, as I originally booked the Club Rina, but was bumped off as it was not ready for W/C 13/05/06.
Fears were unfounded, all the staff were lovely and could not have been friendlier or more helpful. The bar was expensive but all hotel bars are!. Food was fine and plenty of choice, I cannot understand the comments about the breakfast, I thought it was great. Only downside was sword fish/beef/pork not at their best when kept on a hot-plate, and soon toughen up. The Sardinia dinner on Friday was very good.
Pool area was nicely laid out, rooms clean, all in all nothing much to complain about, although could have done with some entertainment.
The beach was fantastic, sun beds/umbrellas for hire, or you can sit under the pine trees on the dunes for some shade.
Alghero a lovely place to wander about, especially the old walls (bastide). We saw the Sea Princess cruise liner in port.
During the walk around the bastide we saw a cat sanctuary in the rocks down by the port, with 2 ladies setting up to feed them all. They had plenty of food and water, and shelters made into the rocks, as a cat lover I was pleased to see this, as most other countries do not look after domestic animals as we do. This made my day.
Meal at Bella Napoli in Piazza Civica, it was OK but would not recommend, staff on the haughty side, and it was complete rip off.
You can get to most places using the local buses, which you have to buy tickets at the Tabbachi (tobacconist) before boarding. Did not go on any Thomson trips, as they are very expensive, 78 euros to go to Corscia, which you can go on your own for 18 euros return ferry crossing.
I would certainly return to Sardinia.

Have just returned from Alghero, and...

May 2006, Mrs D Bundy

Have just returned from Alghero, and wanted to write about Oasis Hotel. Have just read comments on this site and some of the people must have gone to a different hotel to me. The Oasis I found was a good basic hotel. Large, clean basic rooms. No deluxe facilities, but very clean and with excellent maid service every day. The breakfasts were basic but better than most other hotels I have visited in the med. Evening meals were good with an overall good selection of local dishes.
The reception staff were most helpful, as were the waiters and waitresses who were exceptionally cheerful and friendly. We did try the bar, but did find it expensive. If its expensive, don’t use it. Do what the Italians did and go to a bar nearby. As for lack of entertainment, that suited us down to the ground. Go into Old Alghero town where you can sit and people watch all day and night. Beaches nearby were very good and just up towards Fertilla the beach was excellent.
All in all a very good holiday and hotel. Don’t forget, if you treat the staff at this hotel with respect, they will look after you and all your needs.

I recently got married and it took us...
7 / 10
Oct 2005, Mrs R C Marsden

I recently got married and it took us a while to pick the perfect place for a romantic honeymoon, eventually we chose Italy and Sardinia attracted our attention with it's beautiful beaches. We booked through Portland, who were very helpful and got the price down for us to £990 for a weeks half board stay. We flew with Austrius, who I have never heard of, but would recommend. There was plenty of leg room, which is a must for my new husband, and the breakfast was great, a mini fry up, and a free champagne cocktail as the flight was slightly delayed. Cocktails at 7 am, a great start to the honeymoon! As soon as we got off the plane we were greeted with a hot temperature and lots of Italian men helping us off the plane. Our bags didn’t take long to collect and after a short coach trip, we had reached our destination, Hotel Oasis! The room was very nice, but we were more interested in the beach, which was just a short walk over the road. The sand was hot so we quickly jumped into the sea, which was very refreshing and so clear! It was amazing. The food that evening was fantastic, it was a buffet style, with starters of olives, feta cheese, salad, meats and then a choice for the main course, steak, pasta or fish, all very tasty, well it would be rude not try everything! That evening we went for a walk into the old town of Alghero, although there was a bus, we thought we would walk off the calories. The walk was 45 minutes and I soon regretted wearing heels! But it was worth it once we got to the old town, it was like stepping back in time, and it was very busy. I had sex on the beach, the cocktail, at the Jamaican Inn, and it was the best I’ve ever had! A bargain as well at 4 euros. The staff were very friendly and patient as we attempted to speak Italian! My husband had a oina colada which I also helped him with! The next day, slightly hung over and with aching feet, we visited a vineyard with our rep. It was well worth seeing and some of the sights on the way were perfect picture moments. I think the best part of the vineyard for me was actually trying the wine they produced. We had two glasses of a lovely sparkling champagne and some special Italian flatbread, which is delicious and after a few drinks you can't stop eating it!! We were given the history of the vineyard and shown downstairs to where they store the wine, in huge barrels, it was heaven being surrounded by so much wine! We were also given time to shop for wine, at really bargain prices, great gifts for the family and treats for ourselves! Another excursion we went on was a boat tour of Sardinia. We sailed around the 'sleeping Giant' and other parts of the Island which were amazing and seeing Alghero in the distance looked amazing. We went around the Caves of Neptune, and all along the water was clear and looked so inviting! Eventually we stopped in the middle of the sea where we were able to jump into the water, and it was well worth it, the water was beautiful and cooled everyone down nicely! Afterwards we were served with a meal on the boat, seafood pasta, it had everything in it, crab, king prawns and mussels. Of course I was the only fussy one there who had plain pasta, which was still delicious! With the meal, there was wine flowing freely! As a second course, fresh mussels were served drizzled with lemon. It was enjoyed by all. I had freshly cooked chicken breast instead, very tasty! We were then served with grapes, which amused the Italian passengers, watching the 'foreigners' spit out the pips, while they crunched them! Finally we were served liquors! Not the sort of lunch we have at home, but a great treat! On our way back to Alghero, we stopped at a secluded beach, where my husband trod on a sea urchin, so he was not best impressed, bless him! Apart from that the beach was lovely. Our final excursion was a typical Sardinian evening, where we were taken to a secluded restaurant and entertained with Sardian music and dancing, and were served red wine, olives, feta, spit roasted pork, pasta and numerous cakes! I was trying everything, after dieting to fit into my wedding dress for months, I could finally pig out, and pig out I did. After finishing this huge meal, we were dragged on stage to try and dance with the entertainers, which was interesting, but I felt more confident thanks to the free red wine! This evening was completely different but well recommended. All of the trips we went on were well worth the money and helped us to see more sights of Sardinia, I would recommend them. When we weren’t out on excursions we were enjoying the beautiful beach and wandering around the shops in Alghero, where the most popular gift is cork made gifts and knives. Coral jewellery is also popular but a bit too chunky for me. On our numerous walks into the town we were lucky enough to spot some small sand lizards, and Ghekos on walls of buildings in the evenings. Probably the worst thing we saw was a huge praying mantis on out balcony though! We had left a towel to try and when my husband went to collect it, there was a huge praying mantis sitting underneath it, I ran inside out room and locked myself in until it had been removed, which took about half an hour!!! Our week in Sardinia was everything we dreamed of, romantic, hot and interesting with loads of sightseeing, my only regret is that we didn’t hire a car to see more of the island, but I was scared of driving in Italy, where they all drive so fast!! The only bad thing about the hotel Oasis was that all the entertainment was in Italian and in the evenings, form 9 o’clock it was children time, a little late, but every night it was the same Italian children’s songs, which I still hear in my head now!! The hotel was full of Italian visitors, so it would have really helped to speak their language We returned golden brown and ready to start learning Italian ready for our next visit, I'm hoping for Milan!!

We went to Sardinia for the first...
6 / 10
Aug 2005, Mr A Sargent

We went to Sardinia for the first time with our 17 year old daughter and 13 year old son.
The Hotel itself was basically very good, the breakfast was a bit basic with the same choice everyday but the evening dinner was very good with plenty of choice from salads, fish, pasta, meats and seafood.
The drinks in the hotel were very expensive about 2.50 euros for a small soft drink, but between 9pm and 10pm in the Bahia bar they had a happy hour with supposedly 2 drinks for the price of 1. This wasn’t quite what it seemed though as we had a confrontation with the bar manager who tried to give us short measures and charge us more. He was not very friendly at all and to be honest a right pain throughout the holiday.
The two swimming pools were nice though, they were very clean and comprised of slides for the young children.
The hotel rooms were also very good with maid service everyday and a change of bed linen once a week. The walls though were paper thin and you could hear everything going on in the rooms next door.
The evening entertainment though was almost non existent that is unless you were Italian. There was supposed to be a disco on site, but this was never open at all. There was Karaoke at the Bahia bar which was good but it wasn’t on every night.
We also found the Italians to be unfriendly, they seemed to walk right past you as though you weren’t there, but they seemed to be OK with their own. saying that though we did find most of the hotel staff were quite nice.
Sardinia itself though was a bit of a dump to be honest, the hotel was right by a busy main road with continuous traffic all day long, and you had to walk along here to get anywhere at all. when you did walk along the road there was a constant smell of sewage and car fumes everywhere and also there was rubbish piled up alongside the road which smelt awful, and you had to hold your breath every time you walked past. Overall it gave us the impression of being a very run down Island indeed.
The Hotel too was a bit out of the way with Alghero about 3km away. there were no restaurants or proper shops within walking distance of the hotel only a tobacconist and it was a job in itself trying to find an English newspaper, and when you did it was about 3 days old.
The nice sandy beach was just across the road through a wood but the water there wasn’t that clean, in fact the nearer you got to Alghero the dirtier the water became until it was almost black in colour.
I would advise the hire of a car for a few days as there is not much in the immediate vicinity, there is a bus service about 1km away however, this is not very reliable and a bit of a rough ride along the road which is full of pot holes, you also had to purchase your tickets in advance from the tobacconist as you could not get on the bus without them.
Despite all this we had a enjoyable holiday as we made the most of the facilities at our disposal. But we would not go back there as there are much nicer places to visit than Sardinia.

A clean spacious hotel, with two...

Aug 2005, Mrs S Knight

A clean spacious hotel, with two pools. I found this hotel nice, but the service not so great, especially if you are British.
The entertainment is all in Italian, and the hotel is very expensive for drinks.£2 for a coke, or orange juice. The supermarket has limited opening times, and no good if you are half board as there are no fridges. You are not able to use any cash as they only operate on their own patron system. The general bar staff are ok, but service can be really good, then really poor. I openly saw people being charged different prices.
The reception staff are ignorant and rude, and have a preference to looking after their own. Entertainment is limited, even more so if you cant speak Italian. The pools are nice but have too much chlorine... The food is good, lots to choose from, and the restaurant is nice and clean, waitresses are friendly. A 40-minute walk to Alghero, which is a lovely town. Overall over rated, and not worth the money.
We travelled with Thomson’s, the rep said Sardinia is the Jewell in the Mediterranean crown, I agree, but as far as the Oasis is concerned they are cubic zirconia!!

Just got back from a really good...

Jun 2005, Mrs R Johnson

Just got back from a really good holiday here, with my husband and 2 year old son.
The hotel was comfortable, although decor was dated. The food was really good overall. Breakfast was the same everyday but a wide choice was available. Dinner was excellent. Really nice food, varied menu. Great if you like seafood and fish. Not brilliant for kids, but pasta is always available.
The hotels location is good. It’s not in the busy centre, so you feel away from it, but it is near a busy road, handy for getting into town via bus (regular, but timetable not set). The beach is just over the road and through the trees. Really good beach for kids, gently sloping, clear water, sandy beach.
The hotel staff are great and the kids club staff are really enthusiastic (my child was too young to go into the kids club, but he joined in the evening dancing!) All the staff really makes a fuss of the kids.
They’re enough to do in the surrounding area, but it’s also a great place to chill out and relax too!
