Having just returned from the Pelekas Beach Hotel we would highly recommend that you read the other reviews listed, as they are all quite accurate and still relevant.
We felt that for a 3 star hotel the food was very good, though choice of main course & desserts was limited and the menu was repeated. Restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful. We asked to change our sitting as 6 pm is too early and this wasn't a problem. In effect the sittings ran in to each other and there wasn't any enforcement of allocated sittings.
Our room was in F block on the ground floor which made it easy to get to the terrace, pool and restaurant, which was a blessing, as the lift up to the top stopped running after dinner.
On the negative side- the area outside our room was troubled by a dreadful smell of sewage. The smell seemed to affect the terrace at times, which was a shame, as it was a great place to sit and admire the lovely views and sunsets.
The beds were very old and mattresses were covered by new zip up covers to disguise the state of them. The hotel rooms are in need of refurbishment but cleaned every day. The air conditioning unit was very noisy but did work well though the vents were coated in long term dust.
The pool area is in need of some attention but the pool itself was clean. We understand that the lift is being replaced this autumn.
In September the hotel and beach is troubled by swarms of wasps which made eating outside and lying in the sun difficult. We were told that it was due to the grapes ripening, but having stayed in other wine producing areas and not being troubled to such an extent, we were sceptical!
Entertainment during our stay was either very bad or non-existent. There was a Greek evening provided with dancers in costume but their CD player didn't work very well and on another occasion a singer who was singing old songs such as 'please release me' so badly it reminded us of an old episode of Only Fools and Horses and made us laugh for all the wrong reasons.
During our stay the local bus to the village was out of order and so the only way out was to either walk (only for the very fit), taxi (fairly expensive), organised tour, or hire car (only for the brave as the road is awfully steep and not for the feint hearted).
If you are looking for a quiet break by a lovely beach with beautiful clear seas and you are very fit, then it's just for you.

I and my boyfriend had a great vacation at the Pelekas Beach Hotel.
We had a great time there, the hotel is very beautiful, and we booked a sea view room which gave us the possibility to enjoy every night the beautiful sunset.
The room was very big, spotlessly clean, the maids were coming every morning to change the towels and make the room.
We took the HB basis, food was great, we enjoyed everything, we like very much Greek food because it’s similar with the Romanian food. We highly recommend the beach restaurant for lunch (the left side one), there we eat the greatest fresh fish prepared by the owner!
There are not many things to do around but if you rent a car your vacation will be the greatest you have ever had!
We will go there again for sure!

" I have just returned from a superb... "

I have just returned from a superb week at the Pelekas Beach Hotel with my mum and can thoroughly recommend it for adults seeking peace, solitude and beautiful surroundings. It is the PERFECT place for a quiet, relaxing, away from it all holiday and the beach is one of the best on the island! I would NOT however recommend it for anyone who wants to “party” even a little as it is extremely quiet! Similarly, if you have children who require any sort of entertaining, this is NOT the place for you!
The staff were all superb. Very helpful and always cheerful. On arrival (8.45pm) we were directed straight to the restaurant where dinner was being served until 9.15. Several enquiries we made with different members of staff were always dealt with courteously and efficiently and everyone always had a smile to greet you!
Our room was very bright, spacious and spotlessly clean. The en-suite bathroom was also large and clean and the only thing that could have been improved was the shower, which was fairly basic, although perfectly adequate! Rooms were cleaned daily, beds made and towels replaced whenever used! (I couldn’t tell you how often they changed the sheets ... but they were always fresh and clean and well made with pyjamas/nightware fanned beautifully on the top!!!).
The hotel is set down the side of a cliff and the rooms are in several blocks which fan down the hillside. This gave the benefit of an ENORMOUS (and very private) balcony (about 12ft square!) furnished with reclining chairs/table and SUPERB views down to the beach/bay below (make sure you ask for a sea view room ... there were a few that weren’t!!!). The hotel has a “cliff lift”, which runs from reception down to the terrace. This can be accessed on four levels and so, despite being on a steep hillside, you rarely have to walk up and down the hill!!! The only exception to this is the walk down from the terrace to the beach, which is accessed via a sloping path. Having said that, the path was very manageable for all but the most infirm!
We stayed in block C that was above the terrace and meant we were able to sit on our balcony in the evening and see the singers and musicians on the terrace below. The drinks down at the bar were (in true hotel tradition) a little on the pricy side - so sitting on our balcony with a bottle was perfect!!! Blocks C and D were probably the best for doing this!
The “entertainment” was sufficient for a relaxing evening but not at all lively. For the first five nights of our stay they had “singers/musicians” performing from 9pm - 11pm. This suddenly stopped on the Saturday night (3rd Sept) and we could only assume that this marked the end of the “peak” season. It has to be said that the evenings were VERY quiet without it - although listening to the sound of the waves lapping on the beach below is very therapeutic!!!
We stayed on a half board basis and the food was wonderful. All buffet style the breakfast consisted of everything you could ever want and the dinners offered a salad bar (with some very inventive and delicious salad dishes), a hot food bar (with three choices of main dish) and a wealth of delicious desserts. All of this could be consumed freely - you could have stayed all night eating! Dinner was served in two sittings (6.30 - 7.30 and 8 - 9pm) and, despite having been given an “allocation” for the first sitting we dined at 8pm every night without any problems! My ONLY comment about the food was that it was never “piping” hot. This concerned me for the first couple of days (one hears so many horror stories of jippy tummies etc). HOWEVER, as the food is all freshly prepared for each sitting (new trays of hot food were always put out for the second sitting) there was no problem and we did not hear of anyone being ill (and we certainly suffered no ill effects!).
Access to the hotel is down an EXTREMELY steep hillside. There is limited public transport (about 8 buses a day up to Pelekas village and a mini bus into Corfu town at a cost of 10 euros return). It is possible to walk up to Pelekas - but it is not a walk for the faint hearted - it really is an enormous climb! Car hire would be very advisable for at least part of your holiday - and make sure you practice your hill starts before you go and don’t bother changing out of first gear until you get to Pelekas!!!
A couple of tips. Safes are in all rooms and you can “hire” them for 9 euros a week (plus 10 euro deposit). You can also hire a fridge (full size!) for 10 euros a week - they don’t advertise this, but just ask at reception! It was well worth having this to keep all our drinks cool! The hotel has a VERY small shop, but it is only open from 9 - 5 and really doesn’t stock much! There are, however, two small “supermarkets” within 10 minutes walk (not too steep a gradient to these). Turn either right OR left out of the hotel gate and walk for about 10 mins. Both of these had a good range of drinks (alcoholic and soft) plus bottled water for half the cost of the hotels!!!. Prices of drinks in shops on the island appear to be pretty much the same wherever you buy them from - our little supermarkets were no more expensive than shops in larger towns like Sidari (although perhaps the bigger, commercial supermarkets in Corfu Town may have been a little cheaper?). Phone calls home from the phone in our room were VERY cheap (probably cheaper than sending a text message). We made one short call on arrival and then went to reception to check the cost ... a one minute call cost about 25 pence!!! Do check this yourself when you arrive in case they change the unit rate!!! Finally, on arrival you will be given a key to your room, which will have attached a plastic key, which has to be inserted in your room to turn on the electric. If you want to leave the air conditioning on (and your room will get very stuffy if you don’t!) you will need to separate the keys and leave the plastic one in the electric box permanently. We obviously needed to do this to keep the fridge running - but hadn’t thought of it previously!!!
All in all we found the hotel extremely good. It was well worthy of a good 4 star rating and we had a very pleasant stay!

" The double queen sized room I was... "

The double queen sized room I was allocated was very clean and spacious. It had a nice sized bathroom. I loved the food in the hotel. It was varied with local dishes, international dishes and vegetarian dishes... catering for all. Lots of very fresh fruit was available.
As I went half board, I bought lunch at the beach taverns most days. I did go to a restaurant in the local village one Friday just to experience the Greek dining experience - very good value for money being prepared and cooked freshly and professionally... excellent service. Very yummy. I generally spent my time during the day being a die hard sun bather next to the pool which had great views of the beach and surrounding hillsides. Sunbathing topless I might add is acceptable. In the evenings I went up to Pelakas village on the free bus - a very steep hill to climb otherwise. Sampled lots of local booze etc.
There was a nice atmosphere in the area I stayed in - good night life, but not over the top, and plenty of secluded places to slip away to for a quieter life. I usually ended up going back to the bottom of the hotel at the end of the night where the beach is to a very quaint beach bar over looking banana plants and grape vines. Very nice indeed. It felt like I was in Barbados.
I travelled with Monarch airlines... awful food, but hey, that’s a minor thing in my eyes. Otherwise, great service. The Argo tour rep was very informative. As I had no problems throughout our holiday, we only visited the rep once to find out about the usual gumph as you do on a packaged holiday. I booked with Lastminute 3 days before... everything ran smoothly. I would definitely go to this resort again!

However it was on the taxi ride to the hotel from the airport we discovered how extremely remote the hotel was. The nearest shop was a good 10 minutes uphill walk and that was only very limited.
The hotel itself was lovely, very clean with breath taking views. All balconies I believe were sea facing.
We enjoyed our stay but we just wished we were told the remote location of our hotel. It cost 10 Euros to get to the village of Pelekas where the bars & restaurants can be found.
We also found the taxi drivers to be very reluctant to carry out this journey.
We feel the hotel should offer a free shuttle service at least once a day in to town.
With regards to the buffet, food was always hot and a good choice.
There were lots of Germans.
Overall I would recommend this hotel, however please bear in mind the ridiculous transport facilities.
