Reviews of Tour Khalef Hotel, Sousse, Tunisia
Tour Khalef Hotel, Sousse
Set among subtropical gardens, this traditionally-styled accommodation is part of the four-hotel Marhaba complex. Popular with both mature couples and families who'll appreciate the facilities of a large complex, there are plenty of activities on offer.

I was worried sick after booking this hotel AND THEN reading these reviews. BUT.... have just returned from a fantastic holiday. The weather was great, the flights superb and the hotel good. The rooms were spacious and clean, plenty of choice for food - bearing in mind it is a foreign country, they tried hard to provide something for the English, germans, Russians etc. The entertainment was good if you wanted to partake - there was no loud music, no discos til 4am, nothing. The staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough. The pool was great, though the water a bit cold, the rep was friendly and helpful, the beach facilities lovely. There was some building work going on next door, but you barely knew it was happening. Maybe it helped that the hotel was only half full, but we would thoroughly recommend this hotel. There's not a lot to do in Sousse, and the locals pester you to buy everything, but it is cheap to get around and you can get a good deal if you barter. The Tunisians seem to love children and loved to make a fuss of the children. AND FINALLY only a handful of Russians in sight! Perhaps they prefer the warmer weather in the summer?
Hey this hotel is great all the...

After reading the last review, well what can i say ,we loved our stay at the tour khalef 2 adults and 2 children we have just got back and would love to go back again, we went in 2004 and not alot has changed, they are building a new spa which i cant wait to see,we also stayed in the mahaba club in 2003 what a improvement the hotel looks brand new with a bigger swimming pool, the kids reps at the tour khalef were fantastic and my children loved going to the club there,we also had a room with two single beds and bunk beds and found this fine, yes the air cone my leak but they will come and repair it if there is something wrong, yes there is a open air disco but we were at the back yes we heared it but it didnt keep us awake.that is why you have aircone to keep the cold air in.we didnt leave our patio doors open all night, the food was great yes there were russians, but the staff opened up the snack bar by the pool which was nice, the staff were very friendly and the entertainment was good, the beaches are lush, cant wait to go back

The resort and hotel were excellent and everything was as described in the brochure. The weather was fantastic however BE WARNED there is an OPEN AIR DISCO next door to the hotel which plays VERY LOUD MUSIC until 4am EVERY NIGHT OF THE WEEK. We have come home more tired than when we went and feel very disappointed in Thomas Cook for not warning us about this before we went. We took our children and had we known about this disco we would never have booked to go there.

i was very apprehensive about going to tunisia even thought about changing the holiday to spain. how wrong i was it was one of the most safe places loads of tunisian families out at night swiming in the sea the hotel staff loved it when one said lpease or thank you as most foreign guests didnt bother to do so. the hotel food was fantastic the staff lovely. it was one of the cheapest places ive ever been to took £500 for the week came back with £150 thats after all my drinks and presents ! the Tunisians were lovely great sense of humour. if u speak french use it. Its great cos you dont seefolk drunk at night like in Spain. just make sure you set a price before buying anything that includes haircuts tattoos jewelry taxi rides but dead cheap holiday. all designer bags clothes belts sunglasses cheap and sold everywhere. plenty of shops that have set prices and still dead cheap. the potery is gorgeous. all the stories about the russians being pushy etc i can honestly say they didnt bother us . if u want drunk british singing land of hope and glory at the end of the night then go to spain. my kids loved it paragliding pool great gym at next hotel indoor pool volleyball really good holiday. tunisia is so relaxed very western and handsome men so go with open mind and im certain you will enjoy !

STAYED HERE SOME YEARS BACK....AS I TRAVELLED ALONE I WENT HALF BOARD AND ENJOYED IT. FELT SAFE IN SOUSSE, EVEN VENTURING OUT TO EAT. ALWAYS MET PLENTY OF SIMILAR AGE GROUPS TO MEET UP WITH....SOUSSE IS A NICE PLACE BUT WOULD BE INTGRIGUED TO SEE IF AND HOW IT HAS CHANGED? REMEMBER THE HOTEL FOOD BEING VERY GOOD AND THE STAFF EXCELLENT. THE TUNISIANS ARE VERY FRIENDLY AND IF YOU ARE NOT CAREFUL (ESPECIALLY THE FEMALES) THEY WILL TEND TO FOLLOW YOU & BUG YOU A LITTLE.

My family and I stayed at Tour Khalef in June 2008. We holidayed with friends also,so 4 adults & 3 kids under 7. We were concerned about visiting Tunisia for the first time after reading some other reviews but can honestly now say the concerns were uneccessary. This was probably one of the best holidays we have had. The hotel is nice, staff are friendly, entertainment ok (albeit repetitive), evening meal good (breakfast left a lot to be desired though). Even the Russians werent too bad - except for taking all the best desserts before anyone else! The beach and pool are fabulous. We ventured into Port El Kantoui which is a really lovely area, especially at night. Go via Tuk Tuk- great fun!! I would highly recommend this hotel,it is more than sufficient for a great holiday.

We had a truly wonderful stay at Tour Khalef. Our party consisted of 4 adults and 4 children and there was something for all of us! The 'animation' entertainment guys were absolutely fantastic and made our stay so memorable! They were always so cheerful and full of fun and energy.
The food catered for all our party, although guests from a certain other country could do with lessons in manners and queueing!
The Tunisians made us feel so welcome - we all said we'd never felt more comfortable and nothing was too much bother. We will definately be visiting Tunisia again!
The only down side was the Thomson rep and the misleading information he gave us which led to us parting with money we didnt need to spend. Would advise other Thomson guests to be very wary of his tales. We are attempting a refund from Thomson.

If you would like to go to a 80% russian hotel then this is the place for you!!! They are the rudest people i have ever met.the food was catered for them and we had to eat up the snack bar every day.we complained about the food and they did sort it out for us.the tunisians are very friendly and try to make you happy.
we went with a group of 34 and 8 of those got food poisoning.
the pool is lovely and the resort is very cheap. The beach is just outside the hotel and is beautiful and the sea is warm.
I would recommend the paragliding as my 7 year old son loved it (£15 for 2 people)
If i was to go back to tunisia which i will i would recommend to stay in port el kantui as it was 90% english and the entertainment was in english not in 4 languages which took 2 hours for the tombola!
The hotel was very clean but the rooms were cramped with a double bed and bunk beds squashed up against the patio doors.
Also the queue for the 1 bar of an evening took up to 40 mins to get a drink, once again,if you complain they will bring you drinks over.

Me my brother and my dad have just came back from the hotel (tour kahlef), from 1 week. i thaught the complex was very clean and up to everyones standard.the swimming pools was satisfactory althogh it wasnt very deep and not very clean. if u go to this hotel thier are alot of activities and entertainment at night. they have an indoor pool which is probably better than the out door pool, with a gym besides the indoor pool. the rep was fine (fiti). i went to the water park and the pirate ship. the water park is fine in port el kantoui althogh the best bit doesnt open untill 3 and thier are only 3 slides to enjoy until that time. moreover if u get asked to go on the pirate leave your money in your pocket its not worth it. all u do is go out to the sea, fish, eat and drink maybe swim. but its crap form my point of view. i would reccomend this hotel to everyone but if u get asked to go on the pirate ship say p*** off.

My family and I have just returned from our 7 night stay in Tour Khalef Hotel.
The hotel is excellent although may benefit from a little spruce up in places. The hotel staff are all excellent and nothing is any trouble for them at all, although the reception staff do let them down a little with their at times abrupt attitude.
The pool area and pools are excellent.
We were there at the beginning of the summer season and the hotel entertainment staff were excellent both during the days down by the pool and in the evenings in the hotel bar. They really are good guys who seem to love kids.
The Thompson Hotel rep was not so good, he is an arrogant gentleman that would do better finding another career path!! He actuall ruined our holiday (but that is another story)
The Thompson team overall were excellent although I think they need to review there arrivals policy. We arrived at hotel at around 7.30pm and were not shown around or had anything explained to us at all the rep just disappeared leaving the guests to sort it out themselves with the hotel staff. (Other tour operators at least explain things more to the guests on arrival and provide a welcome drink)!
Overall excellent, and we are looking forward to returning hopefully later in the year.
Though we won't if the same rep is still working there he is atrocious!

Excellent hotel, accomodation very good, cleaned every day to a high standard, facilities are very good, the indoor swimming pool in this three hotel complex is very good, the cleanliness is second to none everywhere, and the staff could not be more helpful and very pleasant. The food is really very good with a comprehensive menu, and nothing was too much trouble. I could througly recommend this hotel to anyone.
Looking forward to returning next year.

My wife and I stayed at the hotel for a week. The Hotel is very pleasant, though perhaps a little 'tired' in places. The staff were most helpful and friendly (very friendly to the younger ladies!). Expect to tip the staff at the hotel and if you have lunch at a restaurant, again a tip is expected. Food was plentiful and well cooked, though the range was limited and very much the same most of the time. Easy access to the beach - sunbeds were free. We weren't that impressed with our Thomson rep. - although he was supposed to be available twice a day for 6 days a week (Saturday day off and of couse airport duty from time to time), he was sometimes not available. We found him slightly surly and arrogant. For the winter months, there are a couple of dance tutors, Alan and Rene (straight out of 'hi-de-hi'!) - they were lovely and most helpful, giving plenty of good advice. The other reps that we met at the airport all seemed fine. There isn't much to do in the evenings outside the hotel (perhaps things improve in the high season) and the 'in-house' entertainment was limited and pretty poor (our belly dancer danced for just 15 minutes!) - again I'm sure that things improve in the high season.
All in all, we would be happy to stay at the Tour Khalef again but would bring plenty of books for the evenings if visiting in March!
