not 4* standard, rooms clean but shabby, outside grounds poorly maintained, restricted times for pool use and best bar use, hygiene not good, entertainment poor, students all over the hotel and not always well behaved, staff attention though very good and surroundings beautiful but remote, could be lovely if managed properly and brought up to date [needs to decide if 4* or second rate holiday camp] little roadside resturant nearby well worth going to food great and cheap also very friendly if you are.

We were transferred to this hotel for our honeymoon in August for two weeks. The hotel is meant to be 4*, we've stayed in better 3*s! The rooms were basic, with no coffee making facilities, the showers leaked, and there were ants all over the bedroom floor which crawled up into the beds!! The dinner tables inside and outside are set around midday, and as there were around 10 cats in the hotel and loads of flies we regularly pictured them licking the plates and cutlery.
The hotel itself is in the middle of nowhere with not one shop, supermarket, restaurant nearby and the shuttle bus only ran 9.30 or 10.00 to the beach and came back at 3.30 or 4.00.
Poor entertainment on average two nights a week. This hotel has been up for sale for over two years.

My partner and I have just come back from a week in Malta staying at the Grand Mercure Selmun Palace. When we arrived in the early hours of the morning we were pleasantly surprised as the hotel lived up to the pictures we had seen on the internet and the room was clean and functional. We were disappointed that there were not tea and coffee facilities in the rooms, but you could order this from room service up until 1am - even so, it was something I expected to see in a 4 star hotel in Malta.
The only other thing I was disappointed at was I learned that the courtesy bus that the hotel runs to, to the beach and the town only ran between 9am and 1pm - if you wanted to go after this then you had to walk the 1km to the bus stop and get the local buses - which wasn’t so bad once you got the hang of it.
Apart form these two negatives, the hotel was excellent, the choice at breakfast and evening meal superb! The food itself very good. There was always two pasta dishes, fish, pork chicken, lamb, beef and veggie options and the desert section was fabulous! This hotel is literally in the middle of no-where so you will have peace and quiet whether you want it or not - as we did it was excellent!
2 days into a weeks holiday I fell in Mosta waiting to see Mosta Dome (a must) and ended up having to go to the hospital. I then spent the rest of the holiday confined to a wheelchair in the hotel - the staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. We feel as though we have left knowing we will keep in touch with some of the staff and we are already planning to go back again.
If you get the opportunity to go half board for £50 more than B&B - I say take it as with the hotel being 2.5km from the town of Mellieha, when you get back from a tour and you are shattered, its so much easier to just freshen up and eat in the hotel.
Don’t take the hotel shuttle bus to Valleta or Medina as they charge you about £5 where as if you walk the 1km to the bus stop you can get a local bus for about 50p and its an experience in itself.
I heard that easy jet are going to start doing cheap flights to Malta - I hope this doesnt bring an influx of people to the island looking for a party and that the locals pander to this as Malta is one of those places that you want to go to, to experience the culture and history and architecture, then sip cocktails after dinner, not get blind drunk and go clubbing. I say this as a 27 year old not as an 80 year old - before you start questioning.
My last comment would be that if you get chance to have a meal in the castle in the grounds of the hotel on one of their Gala evenings - take it - the food is amazing and the same standard I would expect from any top hotel in the UK (if not better).

This is where you go if want a quiet relaxing holiday. Hotel is at the end of a peninsular. To walk anywhere takes about 20-30 mins. They run a complimentary mini bus service to Mellieha and beach during the day with return trips.
Rooms have the usual fixtures and fittings but not flash or contemporary. The swimming pool is a decent size if you like swimming and also there is a children’s pool. No shortage of sunbeds/umbrellas (they may take them down when it gets too windy).
Evening meals are buffet style with BBQ's twice a week. Breakfast is quite a big choice but never varies. Evening entertainment could be improved as they have a captive audience as there is nowhere to go unless you catch a taxi to nearest village (Mellieha) equivalent of about £3.00.
During the summer they have groups of students (Italian/Swedish etc) staying who go to school during the day to learn English. So the pool is very quiet during the day. You know when they have returned - but not a problem to us. They also dine separately and are taken off site on various trips etc.
Malta is a great destination if you like culture, churches etc. The people are very friendly and most speak English.
Very easy to hire a car and drive around as they also drive on the left hand side. Always road diversions with roadwork’s but you find your way back eventually - maybe by a different route.
You can even go and see where Popeye was filmed over 20 years ago - 5 mins in the car.
Transfer to airport 30-40 mins.
