Returned 14th August 2010 after 2 weeks at the hotel. Cockroaches enter the bedrooms without barrier or concern on the parts of the owners. My son found one on his back when waking from sleeping. On the second day we returned to our room to find it flooded as the drain... more

Me and my partner stayed at this hotel for 12 nights in July 2010. We arrived at 5 in the morning to rude reception staff that demanded money off us for a safe and air con. We were directed to our room which was supposed to have a garden view, but instead was a rubbish tip.... more

I love Greek holidays and have been on many but would say do not visit this hotel. It is not 4* as I have stayed in apartments in Greece that are 2* and they were better than The Sissi Bay. Our room must of been one of the older ones and needed decoratiing and was nothing... more

What a joke
I have travelled extensively and stayed in numerous good all inclusive hotels. This is not one of them. The food was appalling slop. You can get by if you like Greek salad every day. Puddings were as bad. One day the only thing remotely edible was chicken nuggets and chips followed by jelly and ice cream. I can assure you I am not 7 years old and did not enjoy the expierience. There was no beach, no entertainment no BBQ. the hotel bar never opened and we were relegated to sitting on cheap plastjc seats wearing jackets to keep warm. The only things getting fat were the mosquitos. We bought a repellent candle for our table which helped a little. The drinks were laughable, el chepo wine out of gallon plastic containers, ouzo, very cheap brandy or beer. All of which was of very poor quality and doled out grudgingly. The facilities for children are very poor and in some cases downright dangerous. Crete is a lovey place, Sissi Bay is a lovely village with nice resturaunts and bars. The Sissi Bay Hotel ruins this resort. I hope you read this before you book. My advice stay well away.
a long way from four star
This is not a four star Hotel I think i was being nice when i gave two star rating, if you have stayed in a nice hotel you will be disapointed. I went with my dad, on arrival we had to share a bed the room was next to the main road, we complained and was moved to a room that smelt of damp, we thought we would just air the room and it would be fine... the room had no vent so after we had a shower every thing was damp including your bedding. the food was the worst, if not eaten one day served the next, we had brussels for lunch one day and it was not Christmas! they are very good at apologising but not sincere, some did say that they were happy with the food. but i dont think i would have liked there previous holidays either. all in all was looking forward to getting home. could write forever on this hotel as easy to slag some where off, but if you have a choice dont do it!
Value for money
We stayed at Sissi Bay Hotel in March 2005 and are going back again in March 2007. Maybe it is not the 4 star that you would expect from some countries but where would you find a 4 star hotel for this price! The rooms are adequat and ours had a wonderfuil; view across the pool to the sea. The staff are as friendly as you are to them and we found them all extremely helpfull and friendly. The location is wonderful and the town right on your doorstep is a delight. Clamber round the rocks and there is a wonderful beach. For the price Sissi Bay is hard to beat and we would recommend it for those prepared to enter into the spirit of a small well run hotel. Not all the drinks are included in the A.I. programme but at the price you pay for staying here paying for a few drinks or going to a restautant nearby for a meal occassionally is hardly going to break the bank and might really add to your holiday. We would not be going back for a second and longer stay if we didn't really enjoy our time in the lovely village. Steve & Ros Cornford
Absolute Rubbish - Never Again!!!!
Although we booked this hotel as a last minute thing it was still sold to us as a Fantastic Family resort, having 3 young children this was the deciding factor when picking our holiday. We arrived at he hotel sent to a room up 3 flights of stairs - not easy with 2 toddlers and a 12 week old baby in a pram and 2 large overweight suitcases. We were given our room key and pointed in the vague direction of the room with no help with our luggage or anything, we then wandered around trying to find our room as it is like a rabbit warren with no order to room numbers and corridors coming off everywhere. Once in the room we were so tired at having arrived so late that we were thankful to get to bed and didn't really take in our surroundings. We were supplied with a travel cot, if you can call it that, in our room for the baby, but to be honest I don't think it would have passed any safety regulations and when we put my 12 week old son into it the cot collapsed at one side, consequntly my son spent a week sleeping in his buggy as the cot was a death trap. Once we were more normal in the morning and looked at the room properly we were appalled. The whole room felt damp the whole time we were there, and even the clothes we were getting out of suitcases were so damp and everytime we got into bed the grubby sheets and old throw were wet - not at all an enjoyable experience. There was all mold growing around the patio doors which is not a good sign. There were cracked tiles in the bathroom and everything smelt musty. As for the food and drink it was appalling. Children were not catered for at all. The food was cheap slop with rotten salad items and rotting melon covered in fles for puddding. We ended up eating out most days. As far as the all inclusive went it was absolute rubbish only certain drinks were included and everything we had was monitored. I have been on some fantastic all inclusives and this has been by far my worst experience, made even worse by the fact this was advertised as a family resort and kids were not given a second thought. As for the swimming pool I also feel that this is a death trap it is a tiny pool situated in a tiny area, but is a very deep pool. In some areas there is only a very narrow passageway between the pool and the property wall say about 12 inches - not too safe when there are kids walking by etc. Loads of broken tiles around the pool area also add to an accident waiting to happen. The reception staff are unfriendly, unhelpful and generally uncaring towards any problem you may have. And I think a lot of them are on the fiddle as they were charging everybody different rates on our last day there for people to keep there rooms on. At one point some silly lass tried charging me 120 Euros to keep my room for 6 hours - you can imagine my reply to that!! All in all I was extremely unimpressed with every aspect of this hotel, but we still enjoyed Crete as a whole and made our own entertainment, bought our own food and returned to the hotel only when absolutely necessary. I would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone at all least of all people with children as they are not catered for at all.
Just Back from Sissi Bay Hotel
Just back from Sissi Bay Hotel. We went all inclusive, the only free drinks are white wine rosey wine and beers. Also soft drinks. Was dissapointed with that. There was no entertainment on the week we were there, they walked out three weeks before we arrived. There is a Cretian night consisting of barbecue and dancers every two weeks, not much selection on food. No fresh milk, tinned milk for your tea coffee etc. Sissi Bay is a lovely place lots of restaurants and shops. Locals were friendly. Staff in the hotel are hard workers and very friendly.
Sissi OK
Travelled to the Hotel in August. Sissi is quite a nice hotel. The food was fairly good and we stayed in the new wing where the apartments were new and very nice. We were on an all inclusive package and like so many of these packages they only include local drinks. The staff were very friendly as were the locals in Crete. There were a lot of Germans who tend to stare rather than smile but l guess they may have the same comments about us Brits. The beach was a bit dissapointing as it is largely boulders so you had to travel to find a decent beach. Car hire is quite cheap so you may want to collect your car at the airport rather than wasting the money on transfers to the Hotel which is about 50 Euros each way. All in all not a bad resort and l would consider going there again as the staff of the hotel certainly made us welcome. For a younger party crowd Malia is the better bet but if you want a quiet relaxing holiday Sissi is fine.
i wouldnt risk it again!
this hotel is the worst that i have ever stayed at.the staff are horrible and unfriendly.i found them iggnorant and rude.the hotel is filled with germans and most of the staff are german.we went all inclusive yet it didnt feel like it.you could only get free ice cream durin 1 hour at lunch time and it was only availible to children under 10 but the german children when ever they wanted.the soft drinks, wine ,beer etc were all watered down so it was proberly worth drinking water.the rooms with a sea view dont have air conditioning because they think that you will get a sea breeze.you dont.we baked we had to sleep with the door open leting in the mosquito's and after asking several times they gave us one desk fannn for two rooms.if i was sensible i would never go.
sissi not 4 star
Hi Everyone at this moment in time we are in greece sissi bay just away to go home thank god!!!! The Hotel was a disapointment definitely not a 4 star although it did have a nice view. The place was full of germans who dont smile the entertainment was poor but worse of all the food is shocking for all inclusive!!! The rooms where very hot at nite but dont expect to get air conditioning for nothing as that will set you back 50 euroes per week. Please re think your options before you come here.
really friendly staff
Went to Sissi Bay Hotel for what the brochure discribed, peace and rest. Contrary to the reviews we had read, the staff were really friendly and helpful. The room was clean and the decor good. The food was good and while yes there were chips (lots of the children there wanted nothing more) I never had chips once. Dolmades, calamari, chicken, fish, spare ribs, pork steaks, lots of different types of fish, good salads, lovely bread. People in the local hostelries were very friendly. A 4 star hotel in Greece is not the same as a 4 star hotel here, but you weren't paying 4 star English prices. I've travelled across Greece, stayed in many hotels and apart from Athens found them all pleasant and comfortable. I go to Greece because I enjoy the people, the places and the atmosphere. Sissi Bay itself is a beautiful little fishing village, with the harbour about 5 minutes away from the hotel. I had a wonderful restful week there and I would like to thank Nikos and Zois and all the staff for making our stay so pleasureable.
Not a 4 Star !!
This hotel is more like a good 2 star.. When we arrived at Sissi Bay Hotel it was nearly midnight and we were very surprised by how basic the hotel reception/room was, considering it was sold to us as a very good 4 star hotel. However, things seemed a bit better in the morning. From the hotel, the view to the sea from the pool area is beautiful, but you can not swim in the sea as there are huge rocks and the sea is very rough. The nearest small shingle beach is a hike a way probably about half hour walk, over rough terrain and difficult to reach if you have a baby and buggy. We were on half board, but many guests were on all-inclusive and the service they got was terrible. Old people couldn't even get a cup of tea in the all-inclusive. Most people ended up eating out because the standard of food and drinks were not very good and also they were spending a lot of unnecessary extra money. Sissi Bay itself is lovely, very quaint and lovely, especially with a partner, loads of little tavernas, very romantic but don't take children, there is nothing for them to do. The village is very sleepy. Definately not suitable for a group of lads wanting a "mad one"! ( go to Malia just down the road) WE stayed at the hotel for 1 week then moved to a different hotel for our last week.
