Loved the Kalimera Kriti
Superb hotel with friendly and efficient staff. I have called before booking and they have been very helpful. That's what helped me in my choice. The hotel is not very closed to the airport, but the taxi driver was very kind and gave us some suggestions during the travel. We were impressed by the lobby when we got there. The beatiful flowers in the middle of the huge lounge were really elegant. We thought we were too "casual" for the hotel. It was not so. My children had fun anyway! The food was very, very good and I loved having dinner with my family on the terrace. Unfortunately it was quite cold in October and we have eaten outside just twice. What else? Rooms very clean and a good size with a full bathroom. Location gorgeous. A real gem of a place and a very relaxing holiday experience.
what is the meaning of 5 star in Kalimere Kriti?
We stayed Mykonos , Deliades Hotel which is very good hotel for greece standarts - check my review - and moved to Crete Kalimera Kriti for 5 more nights.. Kalimere Kriti is not enough for 5 stars. It has good entrance and receptions and unnecessary many towels in the rooms and that is all !! Rooms ( At least our two sea front Bungalows) are not clean, one of air conditions does not work in August ! Staff try to repair but unfortunately there is no result... Technician repaired telephone at least . If you want to drink something in the beach you should respectfully wait minumum 5 minutes. This is typical Greek ''Siga Siga'' life style, it means ''Slowly slowly'' If you want to have sun bad and umbrella you should see(tip) the beach boy who is Dimitri. The beach is very good if there is no wind. I highly recommend you to go to eat fresh fish and crete mezes the restaurant name is '' Meraklis'' in Milatos which is very close to Kalimera Kriti. Mr. Meraklis and family are very good cooker, dont miss. You can rent a car from Sokrates in Sissi ( cheaper than hotel) , he is very good man and friend , he advised us many good place to eat . You should drink ouzu ...
good,bad,ugly
just arrived back from 2wks at this hotel, altogether there was 7 of us 4 adults, 1 teenager and 2 children. The bad and the ugly first I think. We booked a family suite for the 2 adults,1 teenager and 2 children( sounds good) what infact was a bathroom with no where to put any of our toiletries or hang your towels. When the bath was emptied it came gushing up from a drain in the floor and was constantly infested with ants.( after we repeatedly asked them to do somthing about this thay gave my husband a can of ant spray, he then wanted to know if there was an electrical fault would they give him ascrewdriver!).They also boast a full marble bathroom, sorry just plain old white tiles. The downstairs room was the single sofa and two campbeds for the children to sleep on, a rickety tv stand with an old tv on which showed only news in english. It also had a mini bar next to the bed with no lock on which my 3yr old on the 1st night helped himself to!!!!!. Upstairs two single beds pushed together a little furniture and a small amount of wardrobe space( enough for 3, my husband and I lived out of our suitcases. The radio is non existent apart from the knobs on a side table. Rooms were clean( apart from ants) and towels were changed every day. You are given beach towels in the room and have to traipse them down to the beach and pool with you and can only change them by leaving them in the room for the cleaners( when you need them for the beach) One terraces facing a wall, two verandas( our sea view over the roofs constantly smelled of cooking food). We did ask to look at another room but were refused? Breakfast had a good variety but very busy and not relaxing and somtimes felt like you were fighting to get your food. The entertainment is almost non existent and the entetainment staff had very little umph about them. The childrens area was nice but you couldnt leave little ones in the kids club as it was just open for them to wander off. Very little for teenagers to do. The beach was fantastic and saved our holiday from a complete disaster, nice shallow clean water sandy beach and to the right of the beach rock pools. But this is not a private beach as advertised and they even have a sign up for charges for the sunshades and beds. It got very busy at the weekends with outsiders.Sun beds very uncomfortable. There is no gym as advertised. We didnt eat a lot in the hotel at night as we didnt think much of the food, but walked into Sissi(20 mins) to some good restaurants at half the price. Overall I felt that the staff were disinterested and not helpful, apart from one maitre called Kiriagos who was fantastic. The rooms are definitley 2* the facilities maybe a 4* at a push but not worth the money.
The perfect family hotel.
We have just returned from a week at the Kalimera Kriti. We are a family of five: three daughters aged 14,18,20. I wish I'd known about it years ago because in my view it has all the qualities of a perfect family hotel. If you have children under 12 years old I think you will find it's paradise. Firstly, it is safe, self contained, with no traffic. The beach is safe, clean and sandy. The mini club looked super, very well presented and colourful. The food is very good, with choices to suit the pickiest of eaters and the dining area is informal. The hotel site is vast with lawns and terraces, with room to settle for the day on loungers without being too close to other people. A doctor visits every day. The pool bar provides good lunches and take aways. Finally, the staff are super (especially in the restaurant) and my goodness do they work hard. I do agree however, with previous comments regarding its 5 star status. It is under -furnished. The televisions are old. The bathrooms do need to be refurbished. The hotel block does have the air of a Soviet Palace... but we still had one of the best holidays we have ever had in a hotel (5 star or otherwise) and we don't have young children and we did not feel overwhelmed by the people who did. The grounds and pool areas are immaculate and the bungalows are very pretty. The sea views are fabulous. Just make sure you know what your room will be like (there are many types) and how far it is away from the main hotel. We booked independently which gives you the opportunity to negotiate rates and to move if you don't like what you get.
Lovely, but...
Just came back from a 10-day stay at this hotel. In general it was a nice holiday, great breakfast, nice buffets, although the main course, served at your table, was not always that delicious..., but foodwise I'd give 8 out of 10 The rooms were spacious and very clean but a bit dated and even a bit dull: in this range of hotels I've always had some sort of sofa in the room, but not here, all you get are a pair of chairs, and the tv is not what I expect in a 5-star deluxe hotel (it was small, sound was awfull, and above all around 20 years old - my parents went to a much cheaper hotel in Turkey and they had flatscreens in their room...), the built-in radio by the bedside simply didn't work. The bathroom was also dated, no marble floors/wals, but simple cheap white tiles, no storingspace nor shelves to put your stuff, everything had to stay inside my wife's beautycase... After I took a bath and pulled the plug out of the tub, the water would always appear in a small puddle in the middle of the bathroom where an opening in the draining system was located and then disappear as quickly as appeared, weird... The hotel is in fact one big resort with bungalows spread all over the grounds, luckily we were close to the main building so going to the restaurant, lobby or swimmingpools didn't take us too long, but those who had a room/bungalow on the 'outskirts' were probably less fortunate... Grounds were very well kept, as were the swimming pools, the service in the restaurant(s) was flawless, beachboys took initiative to provide you with sunbeds , umbrella's and so on. There were always enough sunbeds available by the pool and if not, the beachboy would get you some without even asking him, super! I was also a bit disappointed that there was no possibilty of having a cup of coffee after diner in the restaurant. They'd rather have you spend your money in the bars and Kafenion than serve it to you in the restaurant... Drinks were quite expensive too, as well as entertainment, for example, pooltables cost 2 euros per game (!!!) Now, don't let these negative points make you think that we didn't have a nice holiday, we absolutely did but I just wanted to point out these few 'imperfections' in an otherwise excellent hotel.
food and rooms much under expectations in a clean rather anonymous frame
We could have enjoyed more and in a shorter time our stay if we had knew before that the hotel has more in common with a mass-tourism village than with a 5-stars luxury resort. Even without citing different chains’ hotel in exotic locations, this one cannot compete in class, charm and comfort with those of the same category in Aghios Nicholaos or Elounda. Geography: the hotel is conveniently located at 45 min. taxi drive from Heraklion airport facing a very nice bay with clean waters. The back is surroundend by magnificent mountains. The near village of Sissi is worth visiting once. Architecture: the area is immense, but not really a garden; some trees and bushes grow here and there. The central building has a somehow disquieting military look, the main rooms wing remembers colonial or hospital features. The bungalows are spread out in a sort of Havana-reminiscent village, where we got initially lost under the sun in a labyrinth of porphyry up-and-down paths without a single indication. Rooms. Having reserved a sea-view suite, we’ve been introduced into an oppressive environment with windows lower than an adult’s head, a rusty tub and chipped tiles. We could see the sea by stepping outside, walking along the terrace, turning 90° counterclockwise or bending our neck. After unpleasant insisting and refusing to unpack luggage, we had a first floor spacious accommodation, much nicer but still very simply furnished and with no trace of marbles elsewhere depicted. Everything but air conditioners filters was clean; everything was efficient. The rooms and bathroom were done once daily and kept clean and ordinate. Food. The restaurant for the half-board plan is on a nice terrace; the lack of adequate smoking policy prevents from dining inside and may render unpleasant also being outside. The amount and variety of food was inversely related to its quality. Everything looked stale, greasy, dehydrated, re-warmed if not recycled. Only the so called main course was served at the table in such a sort of self service and I vainly claimed twice that I would have refused it at a refectory. We’ve been eating small pieces of grilled meat or economical poultry with raw vegetables and (excellent) fruits for two weeks. Wines were overpriced related to their quality. Everybody was very kind, to such a point that waiters did not hesitate to tap my back or clasp my arm with indulgence on a couple of occasions… I understand that feeding some 1,000 guests is a difficult task, but this had really very little to do with even simple cooking we were expecting. Beaches and pools: they are excellent as well as the very well kept lawns. Swimming is safe thanks to a big pier protecting one beach, while a second one is more open and somehow wilder. Both are wide and finding a place as desired has never been a problem. We’ve never been disturbed by water scooters or motor boats. Strangely, the beach is easily accessible from outside by non-guests, but this didn’t apparently cause any inconvenience. Mini-club: the babies’ pools are unprotected from the sun, but kids loved the place, company and some entertainment. The environment is overall safer than average and allows children a higher degree of freedom and amusement than in many many other hotels. In short, this is can be an ideal place for a family holiday with kids and diet programs. Luxury hotels are different stuff in my opinion.
Excellent hotel
Having done our homework on this site we decided to book the Kalimera Kriti and were not disappointed. It is an excellent hotel, not perfect despite the fact it is 5 star but is let down alittle by the food which is very samey re the buffet. However the location is great, has it's own beach and the big advantage no worries about getting sunbeds which are dotted around the pool in the gardens so no craming in like sardines. We booked a family suite with sea views which was one of the biggest rooms we have ever had, 2 bedrooms, 2 terraces, but yes you do have to look over other bungalows to see the view. There were not many British people staying there which is not a problem as my 11 yr old quite happily played sports even though he was the only Brtish memeber in the group. Sissi did not seem to be that brilliant so stay in the hotel and relax.
Very Relaxing Family Vacation
We recently returned from a week's stay at the Kalimera Kriti Resort in Crete. I booked this resort based on recommendations from Trip Advisor Reviews. Overall, our vacation was very nice and relaxing. When we first arrived at Heraklion Airport, we arranged a car pickup with the hotel. They were waiting for us after we picked up our luggage and we drove about 35 minutes to get to the Resort. The lobby is very pretty and the views are spectacular. We had reserved a Waterfront Bungalow Suite..since we arrived in the morning, the room was not ready yet. We decided to look around and have lunch. We were very excited because it was so pretty with 2 large, very clean pools. Our six year old daughter could not wait to go swimming. The sea was crystal clear and the beach was a nice soft sand with lots of umbrellas and lounge chairs. When we went to our room, I must say we were a bit disappointed. On the resort's website, the waterfront bungalow suite appeared much more luxurious than what we saw. The location was nice, but when we stepped in the room, there was a small, plain room with a couch and then stairs to go up to another room with a small double bed. The picture online shows 2 rooms separated by a door on one level which is what I thought we were getting. I did not want to have our daughter on the 1st level while we were upstairs. I don't like to complain but felt I must say something. When we went to the front desk I calmly let the man at the desk know our concerns. He said that there were some suites like the one I described but a few are 2 stories. I said they should put that on their website. He then said they had no other ones available. I had to ask what our options were and he did say we could move to a Sea View suite. We went to look at the room and decided to take that one. It was one level and 2 rooms with a balcony and sea view. Although not at close to the water, it was very nice and actually less expensive. We loved ordering coffee that was delivered to our room each morning and having it on our balcony. The food was wonderful and the service was good. They didn't go overboard to please you, but they did take care of your needs...we are just used to more smiles and conversation. All in all, great vacation...just make sure you are clear about the room you are reserving.
A great place to stay
A great place for families with young children. We stayed in a sea view family suite which was very clean and had a fantastic view of the sea. The food was good but a little "samey" and the buffet area can get very busy at peak times. The staff were very attentative and friendly at all times I would recommend this hotel for anyone with small children looking for a relaxing hloiday in Crete.
Wonderful Place to Relax
Have just returned from a week at the kalimera kriti in a sea view bungalow, and I cannot praise it enough. From the moment we arrived until we left the staff were very friendly and efficient, the food, the cleanliness, and the service were all excellent. We are a couple with grown up children, even though there were mainly families with young children, it did not affect the relaxed atmosphere here. There are plenty of places to eat or drink in Siissi which is a 20 minute walk, but the food is not as good as the hotel, and not much cheaper. I would recommend half board for a few days, which will leave you free to eat elsewhere for a change. We have stayed at a few luxury hotels in the past and this is one of the best value places we have come across. We will definitely be going back in the future, and would recommend it to any of our friends.
