Maritim Jolie Ville Luxor Island Resort

We were concerned before we left as since booking my wife now has to use a wheelchair. We need not have worried as Discover Egypt coped extremely well with our needs. We did have a 6 hour delay on departure, caused by the after effects of the Florida hurricane.
On arrival at Luxor we were met by a discover Egypt/ Viking travel rep who whisked us efficiently through customs etc and thence to our boat. Due to late arrival the agenda was changed and we sailed the same night, after an early morning dinner and drinks. We booked an upgrade to a suite, a good move as the cabin was a good size. Whilst Viking 1 was not the poshest ship on the Nile this was more than made up for by the quality of service, which could not be faulted. They even supplied a member of crew, Abdul, who assisted my wife on all the excursions, assistance beyond the call of duty indeed. This was copied in the dining room where my wife received the personal attention of the matre d. To say this was the best service we have ever had on a holiday would be an underestimate.
Our guide, Mohammed, was knowledgeable without being pompous and was great fun to be with. I enjoyed a trip on a hot air balloon on the last morning on the cruise, well worth the £70-00 charged for the trip. NOT TO BE MISSED.
The second week we were taken to the movenpick resort on Crocodile Island. There were some building works but they did not interfere with our enjoyment one bit. Here again our Viking rep was most helpful as were all the staff of the movenpick. So much so that we intend to return when the renovations are complete. The hotel general manager made a point every night of meeting all of the guests in the restaurants etc. to ensure that we were all satisfied. The food in the hotel was very good. Again all of the staff were on hand should there be even the smallest problem. Which there wasn’t.
The only downpoint of the whole holiday was our arrival back at Gatwick where the requested wheelchair assistance did not arrive. Typical English, would never have happened in Egypt.
To summarise I recommend both the Viking 1 and the movenpick and for that matter the Egyptian people who were only to willing to assist in any way, and not always for baksheesh, A poor but very civilised country where it was a pleasure to go out without seeing crowds of drunken yobs.
