Maritim Jolie Ville Luxor Island Resort Reviews
" Brilliant lovely hotel. Would... "
Submitted By: Miss S LynThe food was lovely.
The pools were great, there’s alot of different sporting activities to do. I had one of the best massages here.
The zoo was fun, they had a range of different animals.
The rooms were nice and spotless and were cleaned every day. The workers were so polite. They would take time to come and speak to you. The hotel manager was very friendly.
The location was just in the right place, on its own little island overlooking the Nile.

Submitted By: Ms R GriffithsMy ten year old loved the pool, Cleopatra, the table tennis and the freedom to wander around safely. Apart from the amazing setting what really made it all wonderful was the attitude of the staff. What wonderful people. Nothing was too much trouble and, as someone who hates having her main course slapped in front of her before the last mouthful of starter has gone; I had no problem with waiting for ten minutes between courses if necessary. We all loved the food. Interestingly room service was the cheapest way to eat and we had such huge breakfasts nothing else was necessary.
We didn't book anything through the tour operator as it is way too costly and most of the money goes directly to them and not into the local economy. We found a wonderful chap called Ali who took us all over the place. He picked us up from the hotel in the morning and we just went off for the day with him organising all the transport we needed and keeping us clear of any hassle. "Lah shokran" (no thank you) does work if you're firm about it, particularly if you leave a gap between the first and second part and even more so if you say "Lah -ah" because it emphasises the "no". You expect it though and nobody gets nasty and there was no hassle at all within the hotel, just lots of happy people who couldn't do enough for you provided you treat them with the same respect and goodwill you expect from them. It's always a two way street.
We saw all the usual stuff but sailing up the Nile with Ali and being taken to lunch at his house was the highlight of my week. The history is amazing and awe inspiring but it's those who currently live in Luxor who continue to keep the magic alive. Ali can do trips out into the desert and cruises down to Aswan as well and we are going back to do those shortly.
Go here. It's not the Ritz - but who needs the Ritz in the ancient city of Thebes? What you need is to watch the ibises sail across the Nile sunset against a backdrop of the Valleys, smiling faces, good food and the knowledge that this is Egypt and, as they are so fond of saying, "Welcome back."

Submitted By: Mrs D OhkuboThe Island is lovely and the sunsets provide brilliant photo opportunities! The zoo is a must for 15minutes entertainment but be prepared to tip for the camel ride!
Most evenings, we had the bbq on the terrace which worked out at about £10 per person for 'all you can eat' and included a selection of puddings.
As with previous comments, I can only emphasise that tipping is expected in Egypt to the extent that you need to take tissues into the toilets with you to avoid tipping for your loo roll! (this was the case everywhere we went EXCEPT within the hotel).

Submitted By: Miss T FergusonDid all the tours that was going. I have booked again for next year, it has been my dream to go and it was fantastic. I was happy with all of the holiday. Our rep from Thomas Cook took us shopping in Luxor to avoid all the hassle, got great bargains. If you are unsure about going don't be you will have a great time.
I have only been back since the 12th of September and I miss it already. Cant wait till next year.

Submitted By: Mr T HarrisonHaving been lucky to go to many places over the years, we have never returned to any one venue, let alone hotel. But this week, my wife and I will go back (after our visit in 2006) to the Movenpick Jolie Hotel and take along our son, and we can’t wait!
It is simply one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. The staff were wonderful, from the manager down to the cleaners and gardeners (no disrespect meant to the latter). The rooms were very clean and the bath (I'm a big fella) was more than big enough for me.
As for stains on the carpet, well, I didn't see any but I didn't really look. I was there for a holiday!
Food was excellent and very reasonably priced considering the kind of establishment we were staying in. But staying B&B gives you the chance to sample the food in downtown Luxor. And if you ever bump in to Mohammed Ali (the taxi driver, not the boxer) I assure you, you're in safe hands.
I would simply love to be in charge of the complaints dept, as I am sure I wouldn't have a lot to do.

Submitted By: Mr I ManzoorThe slow service at the restaurants and pool dining areas is challenging, but hey, you’re in Egypt!
Definitely the best resort in Luxor, 4 km outside the town (which is great as the hassle downtown can be a holiday killer if you don’t know how to deal with it!) with a complimentary bus and boat service.
If .you aren’t in Luxor to visit the historic sights and monuments, then you need not leave the island as everything you could possibly require is available on sight.
However the hotel is overpriced and the food quality is good but not great. For quality cuisine visit eg. Maxime Restaurant where a 3 course meal for 2 (including sea bass, fillet steak) will cost you less than £10!

Submitted By: Miss H LittlewoodOverall our holiday experience was made fantastic by staying at this hotel. I would definitely recommend it to anyone staying in Luxor, and having seen a few of the other hotels, I would say it was the best.
For a more formal hotel stay with slightly more modern decor I would suggest the old winter palace, however we wanted a slightly more relaxed atmosphere where we didn’t feel out of place going to dinner in cool, relaxed clothing, but where we could dress up if we wanted. With the selection of places to eat here it gave us that.
The staff are always on hand to help.
They have a 'happiness officer' who seems to spend most of his time just being around the resort, smiling, and making sure everyone is having the holiday they always wanted. A pleasure to see every single person who works there and you end up knowing the waiters and even the chef very well, as they go out of their way to talk to you.
The only down sides are perhaps that sometimes when you just want to slob about on your patio, you are approached by gardeners/room service/welfare officer at regular intervals asking if your are well, and saying hello.
However, to complain about the service being over efficient would just be stupid as we simply turned it into a running joke and had the holiday of a life time with some wonderfully helpful people to turn to should you have any query/problem/just fancied some light hearted banter about Egypt!
Fantastic place, wonderful people, returning next month!

Submitted By: Mrs C TreanorFood is the best in Luxor. Staff are magnificent. Surroundings are tranquil, only broken by the sounds of abundant birdlife (feed & water the birds).
The bungalow style rooms are in need of modernisation and I understand this is on the cards. However they are of a good size, comfortable, cleaned daily and each has a small shaded terrace with table chairs and sunlounger.
Towels and sheets are replaced everyday if you wish and there is a card in each room to let staff know if you want them changed (surely it is unnecessary to change sheets everyday) as they are looking after the environment A/C is in every room - an essential (don't leave it on when not in the room, again think environment)
The hotel is well away from the honking of car horns, street traders etc. We have stayed here for the last 10 years. Tried others but cannot match the surroundings, peace and most importantly the friendly staff.
There is a daily programme of events for adults and children as well as relaxing beautiful walks and a running track round the island and along the Nile. Fruit, vegetables and even honey (at certain times) is produced on the island by staff gardeners and used in the kitchens. A regular shuttle bus takes guests (free of charge) to and from Luxor town. There is also a free shuttle boat (3 times daily) if you wish a more picturesque journey. Reception has a large guest library in many languages - no need to take a book!
The scorer who gave 1/10 has, in my opinion, exaggerated the situation; clean towels daily is your choice. Bathroom notice advises you of this option. Bathroom only big enough for one person, I have to rubbish that one. Tipping is a way of life and supplements their £30 monthly salary. However, you tip for good service, staff are not beggars - they work extremely hard to ensure that you enjoy your holiday. As far as bird excrement on sun loungers - sorry but staff cannot be around all the time and the birds are very abundant and not such a problem. Large, thick, freshly laundered towels are provided by the pool attendant to put over the mattress.
This hotel has a large proportion of regular guests who travel from all over Europe. In fact, about 5 years ago the hotel celebrated their 20th anniversary. All regular guests were invited from far and wide and it was amazing to see the amount of guests who had managed to travel at the same time to join the management and staff in their three day celebrations. Surely this would not be the case if the hotel was as bad as portrayed in these guests’ comments.

Submitted By: Mr M DennyEven down to complementary fruit on our arrival and our usual invite to the regular guest’s party. I see that the movenpick is leaving the movenpick chain, lets hope the standards remain at this very high level.
From Mr. Tawfiq, guests services manager to our favourite bell boy hamoud all of the staff are magnificent.
Thanks also must go to Okasha who has worked as a waiter at this hotel for as long as he can remember.

Submitted By: Mr S WalkerOur two week stay was made easy by a hotel full of friendly staff and a location, well, fit for a King and Queen.
On the hotel: Very well presented and clean/well maintained. Pools 10/10
On the rooms: Ok not totally modern but ours was cleaned every couple of days all over, sheets changed too, air con is free and needed, TV, hair dryer and on request iron board etc. So in full at the end of the day for somewhere to sleep etc very very comfortable. As for room to move, again we had loads of room so don’t know where the small space syndrome comes from.
Food: Great and such a choice, the breakfast is great and as your meant to eat like a king to start your day you’ll have no problems here.
Bar: Great, you can go to the bar yourself but they just prefer to serve you hand and foot which to be honest in my opinion is just fine by me.
Location: We toured all over Egypt when there and found this hotel a great place to base as your close to all the Luxor trips obviously but only an hour to Cairo by plane.
To sum up, we all know that you make your own holiday but if you want to visit Egypt and want a great hotel to stay at then look no further than the Movenpick Luxor, it is simply superb... So much so we are going back this year in a few weeks August07 to tour the other side and we didn’t hesitate booking back here...10/10.

Submitted By: Mr S OwenThe temple of Karnac is a must. If we had stayed longer than 7 days we would have taken in a short cruise to Abu Simbel and the had hod hot air balloon trip.
The Hotel is excellent and peaceful and the staff are charming. Excellent views over the Nile on a peaceful afternoon in the sun. The food in the Hotel is very good with a different theme every night. A separate a la carte restaurant on site is also worth visiting.

Submitted By: Miss A J RamsayI always said I would love to join them but never seemed to have the money. In 2004 I was off work for sometime very ill and my parents paid for me to join them on holiday and it was the most amazing time.
The staff were so helpful and polite and always remembered our names and even the drinks we liked. The Island was so beautiful, relaxing and the staff couldn't do enough for us. That was three years and every year since I’ve always managed to save enough money to go back.
The sites in Luxor stunned me pictures didn't do them justice. Walking down town in an evening watching all the hustle and bustle was just fantastic. Once you learn a few words in Arabic it's so much fun locals are always impressed and like to teach you more and they love to learn from you.
Many a night my dad, Dave and I have sat with Hanny or Ramadam having English and Arabic lessons however not always remembered too much in the morning having enjoyed a little too much of the local wine!
When I returned for the second time the minute I walked in to reception I felt I was at home again being greeted by all staff who still remembered all our names from the year before!
We have made many good friends in Luxor and continue to return each year and never get bored there is always more to explore be it camping in the desert, boat trips, visiting temples or visiting friends in their village to see how life really is there is always something new to explore.
Every year our group of friends and family seems to get bigger as everyone who joins always wants to share this most amazing experience with someone else.
Both my family and friends all say when they visit somewhere else on holiday it's always a bit of a letdown as it's just does not match the Movenpick and their lovely staff.

Submitted By: ellie29The A La Carte restaurant on site was really excellent. Pools were lovely and clean and not too crowded, the infinity pool was the best.
The hotel is a 5 minute taxi ride outside of Luxor which is quite a relief after experiencing the hustle of the city and not being left alone by the traders.
Very relaxing holiday, I would definitely go back to this hotel.

Submitted By: Miss DR PaulSmithI was taken by surprise to read a recent entry, giving this paradise only one star, which is rather strange. The bungalows are comfortable and very clean and have a/c which is pretty effective.
The new, second pool area is spectacular, having fantastic position next to the Nile and views to the West Bank. The children loved it and we could just bask in the sun/shade.
The food is excellent, prepared by a French chef, with variety and heavily geared to a Western palate and lots of it and all clean and well cooked. Staff are very friendly and obviously take pride in the hotel and its surroundings.
We took trips to the temples and Hatshepsut's temple all by local taxi (cheaper than tours and better for the local economy). We enjoyed talking to the local people and the town is cleaning up now. Luxor is a better place for all.

The food in the hotel is very good. I got quite addicted to their chicken with rosemary. I liked going into Luxor town in the evening to visit the shops (Yorkshire bob's is a must for jewellery) and talk to some of the locals, you can visit any of the other hotels in Luxor without being a resident there.
The begging is unreal and the horse drawn carriage men are quite persistent but that’s all part of it.
Fabulous holiday, I would highly recommend it, the site of the hotel and the grounds are truly amazing and you will feel the need to whip out your camera the minute you realise the Nile is right beside you.
Watch out for the mosquitoes; take lotion from home with you because the stuff in the shop isn't very effective. My daughter and myself chose two different kinds of massages and they were great, just make sure you don't have anything to do after it because you feel so relaxed you just want to sleep. Going back with the other half and my son next summer and I can't wait.
