This hotel is truly wonderful.
The staff were friendly & helpful, the quality of food both in the restaurants & at the breakfast buffet was fantastic, and the hotel & rooms were cleaned beautifully.
A true pleasure to stay here.
Med Hotels were an average operator, I would travel with them again but I am now wiser to the fact that the resort reps. do not always provide you with complete information & didn't seem awfully bothered with our complaints, however the holiday was very good value!
Luxor is a stunning place & will keep me coming back for years!

This is the 3rd time we have stayed at the Sonesta st George hotel and I must say it just gets better every time.
With the extra space that has been added to the pool area, this has made a big plus.
The staff are outstanding, the food in the restaurant has a wide choice.
We will be going back ASAP. I know the friends we have told about the hotel have come back and said they will go again.

This was our third visit to Luxor but the first time we had visited in winter and what a difference that made! The heat instead of being unbearable was a welcome change from the UK winter. To be able to sit poolside on New Years day was a luxury!!
The Sonesta is well located in Luxor and it is possible to walk to some of the attractions in the town itself although taxis are cheap and plentiful and would be recommended. Agree a price before setting off though.
The sights on the West Bank are excellent and musts sees include the tomb of Tutankhamen (although not the most interesting of tombs the most famous) and the temple of Queen Hatshepsut. The Valley of the Kings is huge and it is not possible to visit all the tombs.
Luxor temple and the temple of Karnak are must sees too. The sound and light adds a new dimension and is also a great experience.
The Sonesta is a five star hotel and the rooms are spacious and very comfortable. The restaurant is excellent although we often ate out in the growing number of restaurants in the town.
Don't be put off wandering by the hassle you initially receive, the locals will soon recognise you and a firm no (if you are not interested in their shop, taxi, boat etc ) is all that is needed.

Spent a week at this 5 start hotel with a cheap deal got through lastminute.com.
The facilities and staff were generally excellent. I had a single room at the side of the hotel overlooking the electricity station and Nile - the room was good except the mini bar wasn't stocked - asked about that but was told they don't do it anymore.
I had half board and the food was very good with a wide selection of different foods to choose from - it’s a self-service system which meant I could get in and out quickly. It’s hard to think of any negatives except the prices in the hotels bars and shops are high - over £2 for the cheapest bottle of beer for example.
The staff were very friendly and not too pushy. Outside the hotel there was the usual constant bombardment from taxi-drivers etc but as long as you don't catch anybody's eye or engage in conversation with strangers you're pretty much left alone.
The hotel is a fair walk from the temple and museum but there are a number of decent restaurants and bars close by.
I would recommend the Sonesta for those wanting a bit of luxury at an affordable price - it was quiet when I was there, an ideal place for a peaceful sunny holiday.

We stayed at the lovely Sonesta St George last June /July, we stay at this hotel every time we visit Luxor.
Rooms are 5*, service from the friendly staff is second to none, food is 5* the Japanese food, also the Italian both superb, the pool area is very peaceful overlooking the Nile with swim up bar, sun loungers are big and well padded with towels free.
I would recommend this hotel to all visitors to Luxor, we will be back there in few weeks time!

Great location on the banks of the Nile, near other large good hotels and good for sightseeing i.e. Valley of the Kings, Karnak and Luxor Temples.
My boyfriend and I spent the mornings sightseeing, afternoons by the pool and evenings enjoying a drink by the Nile and eating and drinking in the hotel.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Hotel clean and modern with nice pool and pool bar (where you can enjoy an alcoholic or soft drink whilst cooling in the pool). Good reasonably priced food, good room with balcony and Nile view.
Choice of food and entertainment limited but the hotel is near other good hotels i.e. Le Meridien, Sheraton and Winter Palace.

EXCELLENT VALUE.
Luxor is the place to be if you want to see the real Egypt at a very affordable price. The majority of the more famous sites are based in and around Luxor - The Valley of the Kings, Karnak Temple etc. Other famous places of interest can be found within mini-cruising distance (book it through your rep - again, excellent value!)
Perhaps the best hotel in Luxor is The Sonesta St George. The hotel is spotless, the rooms spacious and tastefully decorated and the location is really good (perhaps a little out of the way - but not enough to detract from my rating!)
The hotel staff are friendly and at tentative with Nagha at the pool bar warranting a special mention. Nothing is too much trouble for all staff and I'm sure any problems would be dealt with efficiently and with a smile.
There is a pontoon at the hotel that is moored on the Nile. Grab yourself a drink and sit there and watch the sunset over the West Bank for the perfect relax to the end of a hot day of sight seeing.
In conclusion, if you want five-star luxury at three-star prices look no further than the Sonesta with Portland.

I spent a week at this marvellous hotel with my daughter and we felt as if we were in the lap of luxury. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, the hotel itself was fabulous and its location perfect - overlooking the Nile. Watching the sunset over the West Bank was never to be forgotten.
And it's a great idea to show movies out on the pontoon every evening, where you can sip a drink and breathe in the intoxicating fragrance of the jasmine. Eating out is cheap - we recommend the Chinese a few doors along and, of course, Maximes, which is not licensed but does fantastic fillet steak and fries for less than £3! The street vendors are friendly - a bit in-your-face if you are reserved by nature -
and there are bargains to be had if you barter. I recommend lovely fine evening shawls which you can get for 20 Egyptian - they would cost £20 in Accessorize!
Don’t forget to have a felucca ride!

This was my 10th visit to Egypt and my 7th at this superb hotel. the staff remember you year after year and make you feel at home, nothing is too much trouble. the noble’s bar has stunning views of the Nile and of the sunset which is not to be missed.
The dining choices are great never stuck for a light bite or a 3 course meal in the serapis with the most mouth watering desserts. The pool is adequate for the size of the hotel and always kept to a high standard of cleanliness. The pool staff are at hand to bring your towels and much needed water, the pool food is cooked fresh to order and I recommend the steak sandwich piccolo.
I will be booking again for 2006 and i suggest you try and do the same, you will be bowled over by the chandelier in reception and for history lovers the view of the west bank. Try it you will not be disappointed.

The rating should really be 9.5 out of 10. I have stayed in many luxurious hotels all over the world and the service, staff and cleanliness of the this hotel are second to none. Our room was a twin and we went to reception to ask for a double but there were none available, within 20 minutes they had re-arranged our bedroom and put the twin beds together.
The food in the Italian is excellent, my husband could have eaten the prawn risotto every night, the lasagne was also very good. We had a bad meal in the Japanese restaurant and returned two of the four dishes, the chicken was undercooked in one dish and very fatty (like thigh meat) in the other.
The manager was genuinely devastated, we did not pay for the items and were given a complimentary desert. He begged us to go back for the Tapanyaki and to give his restaurant another try, which we did. The service was excellent, the food good and the show even better, our faith was restored. Nobles bar was a nice place to have a relaxing drink, again with excellent attentive service.
There were only two downsides, the pool area is quite cramped, although you never struggle to get a bed or parasol. My only bad experience at this hotel was the spa, I paid for a facial and it is the worst experience I have ever had. I had to stop the male therapist as he had (heavily) massaged exfoliator into my face. It was quite painful. I would definitely go back to this hotel but I would avoid the spa.

I would recommend Luxor and especially this hotel as facilities and service were like nothing I have seen before really is second to none
For a very modest price we were treated to luxurious surroundings in 5 star hotel food was very reasonable and lots to choose from with 5 restaurants catering for all needs on the hotel site
Luxor itself is fantastic people extremely friendly although can be over bearing at times with constant offers of various transportation just make sure you know what you want to do and where you want to go otherwise 10 min journeys can become hours on end :o)
Places of interest were Hatshepshuts temple Karnak and the lights show and of course valley of kings :o)
A hour’s felucca ride can cost as little as 2 or 3 pound and always readily available.

Spent a week in Luxor, staying at the Sonesta St George in February of this year. Had an absolutely fantastic time. The hotel was marvellous and speaking to others our research obviously paid off as this is clearly one of if not the best in this great town.
My overriding memory is of the wonderful Egyptian people who couldn't be friendlier or more welcoming if they tried. I also felt 100% safe and secure at all times.
Don't book your trips in your hotel or with your rep - go to the front and use one of the small offices.
There is so much to do and see and a week left us completely exhausted but equally exhilarated.
Amongst other activities we managed to cram in trips to - day at Luxor & Karnak Temples, Cruise up the Nile to Dendara, Day in the Valleys of Kings / Queens etc / Flew to Cairo for a day at the Pyramids and at the Cairo Museum, Balloon flight, camel riding, son et lumiere at Karnak and more.
The Feluccas and the Caleches are the only way to travel and unbelievably cheap. Picking your driver / sailor with care and you will have a fantastic time.
The weather was perfect warm days & chilly early mornings and evenings.
Out of season meant the crowds were perfectly manageable.
The hotel was great - friendly, clean and exactly what you need. The half-board arrangement was perfect and the food and service was fantastic - catering for a carnivore and vegetarian equally well.
We generally try to always go somewhere different but for Luxor and the Sonesta St George I think we are willing to make an exception.
