We went self-catering to give us the...
8 / 10
Jul 2007, Mr D Walton

We went self-catering to give us the freedom of staying in or going out. We upgraded to a bigger apartment for a small fee. The apartment was huge!
Overall, the hotel is good. The furniture in the room isn't too comfy, but it's better than a sun-bed, which is where a lot of people spend their time. The beds are hard, but a couple of extra blankets take the edge off.
We took an air freshener with us, one of those anti-tobacco ones, because we're not smokers. I'm not sure we needed it, but it was nice to have it anyway.
We ate a lot at the Eva restaurant in the hotel.WOW! The food was sublime! We had to pay for this, but found the prices to be fair in comparison to other places + taxi fares.
We had to use taxis because our son is a right dawdler! Anyway, I would have still eaten at the Eva regardless, it was just so much better than other places. We did speak to a couple who had eaten the buffet provided for all inclusive guests and they told us that the food was OK, but not great.
The pool was cold on occasions, but if you jump in and get on with it you get used to the water quickly, as you do with most pools. The sea was colder!
The snack bar by the pool is pricey, however, I have an issue with the cost of most things in Albufeira and therefore would file this under that.
The reps were great, providing entertainment all day long. The kids club was brilliant for our boy. He loved going there and the staff were really great. A+++ Thomas Cook!
Would I go back? Yes. I would take more money with me, but I wouldn't mind going back.

Hotel look fab from the outside but...

Jun 2007, Miss R Shah

Hotel look fab from the outside but just wait till you get in. Old and dated, miserable unfriendly staff, and food was like I was back in primary school.
They even charged us a euro when we requested a cab to be called! The only thing that I enjoyed was the daytime entertainment which was very energetic.
However, all in all I would not come back here again.

Jun 2007, Miss C Holbrook

I recently went to Paraiso de Albufeira and found it amazing, the hotel was massive and very pretty and attractive.
The rooms were big and very spacious, they were also clean and very well decorated.
The view from the balcony was good.
I liked the situation of the hotel as it was not in a busy area and there was no loud behaviour. We were a ten minute walk from The Strip and Old Town.
The staff were very polite and helpful, and the food was really nice. It’s a really nice hotel with a lot to do.
I really enjoyed the holiday, it’s a perfect place for families and couples.

The best thing about this hotel is...
4 / 10
May 2007, Mrs L Line

The best thing about this hotel is the size of the rooms.
However after requesting a low floor because of having 2 small boys, I was given a 7th floor room which stunk of stale smoke and had a huge ledge and an unlockable window which opens to a sheer 7 floor drop.
After requesting a swap a couple of times nothing was done, so we had to move all the furniture away from the window which would of provided a great leg up.
The restaurants can only be described as a school canteen although the food was acceptable. These canteens were at breaking point, it is my opinion that the restaurants are far too small for the amount of people they need to cater for. Just glad I am not going this week, being half term.
The swimming pool also is too small and anybody using a inflatable has to stay in one small part of this very very cold pool, alongside the so called swim up bar and if you dare come out of your corner with an inflatable you will be spoken to by the inflatable police, who take their job seriously.
The entertainment was good. I would not recommend this hotel.

Terrible delays with Czech airlines...
8 / 10
May 2007, Mr C Elston

Terrible delays with Czech airlines out of Dublin. The hotel is huge over 800 rooms, cleaners in 6 times a week, plenty of towels.
As you would expect of 4 star, there are lots on offer here, we found drinks and food a bit expensive, it’s cheaper in town.
The Anchora in Montechoro for international dishes and Alfredos in Albufeira Portuguese both reasonable, also the little tourist train is good value.

Don't let the look of this hotel fool...
4 / 10
May 2007, Mrs M Ridley

Don't let the look of this hotel fool you. Yes it does look impressive but that’s as far is it goes.
The best thing about this hotel was the size of the rooms, although if you haven’t got a bad back before you go, you will have after you've slept on the beds! They're so hard you may as well sleep on the floor.
The reception area is looking very tired and dated. If you are a non smoker this hotel is going to be your worst nightmare. I would not recommend it if you take children as the entertainments room/kids room is down in the basement, this is a very smoky atmosphere and not suitable for children.
It is looking tatty and smells very musty and is in need of an urgent refurb.
The evening restaurant is next door to the entertainments room and although the food was just about acceptable the room was dark and dingy.
The levels of this hotel will send you up the wall because the breakfast area is on a different level again. This is very much like a canteen. Three out of seven mornings we went without breakfast because it was just too busy and we couldn’t get a seat. This is not big enough to accommodate the amount of guests this hotel has to account for.
I shouldn’t think we'll be visiting this hotel again!

Just returned from here, (2 adults and 1 child aged 5). This was a fantastic holiday.
Yes we had naff weather but the entertainment staff well and truly made up for it from morning right through to evening. They were truly wonderful at their jobs, and so were the kids world entertainers, who looked after the children through the day time.
The children’s entertainment in the night time started at 8pm and went right through to 10.15 when the adult entertainment began but it was so good that the adults were also engrossed in the kid’s games. Fantastic, they really have worked hard to learn the different acts, pantomimes, shows they performed each night.
The outdoor pool was cold when you first got in but all pools are. The indoor pool was heated and not cloudy, very clean and safe. Whilst we were in there, which was most of holiday because of the crap weather, a group of people came around and took samples of the swimming pool and the Jacuzzi water and came back the next day and retested.
The rooms were clean and consisted of 2 single beds and a fold up bed for the little fella, it also had a small kitchenette which was not used expect for the fridge.
We feel the value for money was great for the all inclusive option, there was a good variety each night, and could select salads, baguettes, pizza, hotdogs, burgers, chicken nuggets the usual crap throughout the day.
Air conditioning was included in the price and sunloungers, mattresses and parasols, which added up when you need three mattresses.
It is perfectly situated between the old town and the strip and is very close to the biggest supermarket called Modelo so if you are self catering it will be cheaper to go there.
This was really an unforgettable holiday, even though we had clouds and 1 day rain.
Thanks to all the staff at this hotel for making our hotel so good.

We have just returned from this hotel...

May 2007, Mrs L Lyons

We have just returned from this hotel with our two children, it was fantastic; the kids loved it and want to go back next year.
It was the 1st time for us to do all inclusive and we were a bit dubious but we had nothing to worry about it was great, food was good, hotel was great and the staff very very helpful and friendly.
We are now looking at booking to go next year which for us is very unusual, as we like to go to different places and have never been back to the same place or accommodation before.

This is definitely a hotel for...
5 / 10
May 2007, Ms M Tolley

This is definitely a hotel for families. If you are like us - a middle-aged couple then you will probably become very aggrieved by the hordes of children running wild and free all day long.
The basement restaurant was about as smart as a roadside cafe with absolutely no trimmings that you would expect from a 4-star hotel. The food was below par - although what you had been tasty and well cooked, the choice was very poor.
Put it this way - I have stayed in 3-star hotels with far more culinary choice than was offered here.
The public areas and lifts looked fine on the surface but we were rather grubby on closer inspection. I don't think the carpets on the corridors had been cleaned for months.
The pool was very small for such a big hotel which did mean that there were kiddies jumping in on top of you and you couldn't really swim for bumping into people.
The entertainment in the bar was good, but spoilt by children running around you whilst you were having a drink and by making so much noise that at times you struggled to hear the entertainer. There was good entertainment for the little ones downstairs in club glam.
However, the dinner restaurant was right next door to Club Glam and whilst you were eating you were having to listen to the kiddies entertainment all the time - no fun eating your meat and two veg to 'startrecking across the universe'.
All in all, if I had a young family I would return, but I wouldn't recommend this hotel for couples who are looking for ease and relaxation.

May 2007, Miss M Scott

This accommodation is lovely!
I was booked to travel with my boyfriend however he lost his passport and I ended up going on my own which I must admit I wasn’t looking forward to.
The staff were fantastic very helpful and friendly and willing to help with information on the local area, amenities etc.
The accommodation itself was very spacious - even if you’re not there on your own! The whole complex was very clean and the food in the restaurant was of a high standard.
The maids were always around the complex and were also very helpful - Which in my experience of travelling is almost unheard of!
There are a couple of gift shops in the hotel itself which I thought was handy.
The pool is large and even though I went out of season the complex was still very busy, however there was still plenty of space in the surrounding area of the pool to grab a sunbed. There are activities on at the poolside each day however this is very repetitive.
The only downfall (if you would even call it that) is that the complex is huge and when I first arrived it took the best part of an hour for me to locate my room! I got there in the end though!
I’m certain I would have rated this 10/10 if I had not been travelling alone.

The hotel was clean and the rooms...

May 2007, Mrs G Connelly

The hotel was clean and the rooms were huge. Entertainment all day and night but also places to go and spend some quiet time.
Overall this was a lovely hotel but I would recommend it mostly for families.
Maybe it is different at various times of the year but it is an excellent place for people with children.
It is in the middle of the strip and the old town which are both within walking distance or jump onto the tourist train which for 3 Euros you can use all day.
The strip is mainly for young and lively and the old town is for all.
The beds in the hotel are hard and the meals are okay but the dining room can seem a bit like a canteen sometimes. Most of the staff are friendly and the team work hard to help.
Everything you need is in the hotel but there is a deposit for a hair dryer and for use of the remote control for the TV which is returned at the end of the week (approx 100 Euros in total).
I would return to this hotel and recommend it to anyone with children.

Jan 2007, Miss CM Lynch

We went to Paraiso in May 2005, had beautiful weather and stayed in a hotel which lived up to all our expectations.
Rooms were well equipped and clean, with spacious modern bedrooms and bathrooms.
We travelled with an 18 month old, who was well catered for and enjoyed the children’s play area and children’s pool.
Only complaint would be that it was a bit of a way from the beach, but you can’t have everything!
