Fantastic
My daughter and I returned home two days ago on the 16th December, from Bahia Principe where we had the most fantastic holiday. The cleanliness, food, accommodation were all first class, and the animation team were the hardest workers and they made our holiday complete starting with the water aerobics to poolside entertainment, the shows were very entertaining particularly Starlight Express and Cats, rounding the evening off with dancing in the street,I would like to thank them for making a 50 something mum feel very special. We will definately be going back again as soon as we have saved enough. We only had one problem to be dealt with, the patio door did not lock securely on arrival but this was fixed within 30 minutes of reporting .A big thankyou to all the hardworking staff at this resort you are all brilliant
Best Value in Dom Rep
Those looking for the best value in the Dom Rep you will not go wrong by booking at the Bahia Principe Rio San Juan. It is a large all-inclusive resort with a large variety of daily activities and dining options. We recently returned after spending two weeks.(Nov30th-Dec14th.) Normally before the vacation is over I'm ready to come back home but here I found myself somewhat sad that the vacation was coming to an end. This is not the resort for those looking for white sand and a variety of blues in the water, as the sand is brown with only an occasional variation of blue in the ocean. But otherwise this resort fills the bill for an enjoyable tropical vacation and the price is definitely right.
I want to go back every year!
The Bahia was a wonderful experience, I went with a friend and we had blast, The staff was very helpful made our trip very memorable. This was our first time in the Caribbean and we felt very safe. Everyday and night was different and fulfiling. We are definatly going back within a year.! *****!!
Fantastic Time
This vacation was more than I ever expected. I felt like I was in paradise. I was giddy with a smile on my face till the day I had to leave. The weather, beach, palm trees and resort are out of this world. The people are very friendly especially the Dominican men. Always smiling with their sexy dark eyes. I can't say enough about the staff, room, and food except it was all spectacular. Lots of variety for everyone and everything. There are tiny harmless bugs in the room but everything else was great. Watch out for many of the men. They are very sexy but also womanizers. Made out with the fellow who sang at the Hard Rock cafe and saw him go home with another girl the night after. Overall had a great time, felt safe and can't wait to go back!
Very Friendly
We returned from Bahia on November 29th. Had a great time. Resort is very clean. Staff is very friendly. Food is amazing. Lot's of things to do for kids. My daughter, who is very shy, was hard to find in a resort. She participated in all the activites made lots of friends. Room service is very good. Fresh flowers every day! The only bad thing - flies. They there on the beach late at night, so it was hard to see them. Their bite is very itchy. I am still itching...
Fantastic
WOW... Bahia Principe was amazing. My sister and I just returned from there 2 days ago and can't wait to go back again. The weather was awesome, the food was great and there was always something to do there.. you will never be bored. The staff at this resort is what makes the place. They are always trying to get you to participate in every sport, contest or even just to get you up and dance. All in all.. this is a must see, must go place... you will have the time of your life.
Nice..... but seen better
My boyfriend and I just came back from the resort. I wanted to write this review for anyone that was interested in going to this resort simply because I used this website myself before I went. Fist and most important thing that I want to say is that the resort itself is really nice, well kept and beautiful beach. I myself have travelled to quite a lot of different places in Mexico and the Carribean islands and Bahia is really a nice place to stay. Here comes the "buts"..... way too many Europeans. Please don't take this the wrong way I personally have an eastern european background but that was just too much for me.... Night life, there is none! If you want to go out to a club and listen to the top 40, this is not the place for you. There is only one club on the resort and the music is pretty much the same evey night. I really didn't like that. If you like adventure, I would strongly suggest going snorkle or the safari, they are about $25-$35 US, but totally worth it. The experience is amazing. One more thing, there is lots of Bugs so be careful!
Swarms of bugs
Bugs, and lots of them. The first day we arrived, I walked into the bathroom, bugs, not a few, but a swarm crawling all over the bathroom counter and floor. We mentioned this to reception, they fumigated after 2 days, the fumes were still present after 5 hours. As the fumes were quite bad, we asked to be moved, the reception informed us that the fumes would be gone after 3 hours when it had been 5 hours already. The staff were patronizing and were not in the least understanding. They moved us to a different room after an hour of us arguing with them the fumes were not healthy, when we returned to the room to get our things, they had used a different stronger scent to mask the bug spray. Then in the room they moved us to, the air conditioner in the room did not work. We mentioned this to 3 different people, nothing was done about it and then the bugs were back, in the bathroom, on the floor. We had booked for 2 weeks and I was ready to come back to Canada after the first night. We finally had enough of the staff's patronizing attitude and we talked to our tour operator, he said he would have the staff thoroughly clean and fumigate the room. We had to stay out of the room the whole day. Never again will we go back to this resort. It's billed as 4 stars, but believe me, it wasn't a a 4 star, I wouldn't give it any stars. Whoever gave it the 4 star billing should stay at a 4 star hotel in the States or Canada.
We're going back!!!
We got back on 7th November and we are counting down the weeks until we can go back in April 2003. We're two single girls and had the most amazing holiday. From the minute we arrived at the hotel we didn't stop smiling! We loved the atmosphere, the music, the people, the food.... everything was perfect. We are still doing the club dance at home! Don't miss the water aerobics and look out for the funny waiter that does sneaky thrusting movements during the club dance! The shows are not to be missed either, the dancing is awesome. Our highlight of the evenings was the dancing on the street after the shows. Would highly recommend this resort for all ages. Antonio and Roberto were the icing on the cake!
Not impressed with Bahia Principe
My husband and I stayed at the Bahia Principe in January 2001. We have travelled to resorts in various parts of Mexico, and this was our first time to visit the Dominican Republic. The one positive thing I can say is that the resort itself is clean, gardens are well kept and the rooms were nice. There were very few Canadians there and a lot of pushy, demanding Europeans (budding in front of you at the reception desk, barking orders at the wait staff and taking the spoons out of your hands at the buffet tables when you weren't quite done scooping your food). My parents are from Europe but they certainly don't act like the ones we encountered on the resort?!! Our biggest disappointment was the food. When we travel south to an island, we expect that lifestyle, culture, and food is not going to be what it is at home. That is part of the adventure. However, sometimes "different" is good and other times "different" is bad. In this case we found the food greasy or over-boiled. And anything boiled in water, like potatoes, or vegetables had a very distinct unappealing flavour to it. By the end of the week we ate only fruit, breads and basically anything not cooked. Mid-week my husband became very ill, stomach cramps, vomit, diarrhea etc. and stayed in the room for two days. I can only guess it had something to do with the food?! I see many others wrote reviews that exalt the food and the resort. Perhaps our experience was that one in a million that went bad. If you go, I hope you enjoy it more than we did.
