" Don't Go There! "

Don't listen to the moaners? You SO need to listen to the moaners before you book this hotel! We had 14 nights at this so called 4 star hotel, I can tell you we couldn't wait to get home. The hotel reception and public areas (pool, bars) are lovely, but that's where it ends. Our room carpet was very dirty, our bath was rusty, the hot water was luke warm and yellow in colour for three days before it eventually ran clear and warmed up. The food was either luke warm or cold, never hot, and very repetitive. The evening entertainment consisted of a 45 minute show (eg. a reptile show with one lizard, one snake and a tortoise), starting at 9.45pm and ending at 10.30pm, and then nothing, not even music, then the bar shut at 11.30pm every night - we were bored stiff! We were not made to feel welcome by the majority of the staff apart from our cleaner, Rosa, the outdoor chef and some of the bar staff. We spoke to several Brits when we could find them (the clientel were 98% Spanish and totally disregarded the Brits), and all of them had the same feeling about this hotel. One British couple who we talked to had been there 5yrs earlier and said back then it was fantastic, they thought the hotel had degraded significantly since then. The hotel seems to cater only for the Spanish, Brits are not made to feel welcome here, please take note of my comments. I dont work for any travel agent, I reckon some of the previous comments on this site could be suspect, if you get my drift....... The main entertainment host was only interested in Spanish guests and young females, not one of the animations staff spoke to us or most of the other Brits, just the Spanish. Thomas Cook should take note and take this hotel off their books. £3500 for our family of 4 could have been better spent elsewhere. Dont go to this hotel. Lanzarote is a lovely island and Costa Teguise where we ate 3 times just to get a hot meal, is a lovely area for beaches and water activities, so we would definately go back, but not to the Occidental Oasis. We were recommended to the Coronas Player hotel and the Lanzarote Bay so check these out on the internet.

Advice: Lovely area, great weather, very clean island.

" brilliant cant wait to go back! "

we had the best holiday we have ever had at this hotel! it was spotless, the food was amazing, the staff where very friendly nothing was to much trouble. there were plenty of sunbeds for everyone. if you get a chance visit the beach its worth it! its small and private, very beautiful and like getting into a bath! hotel also has a brilliant kids club.

Advice: family resort very clean and very beautiful. Best pint of guinness in town is in the shamrock bar!

Activities: Ate in the hotel as food was amazing, tried a few irish bars and the shamrock was by far the best

" Fantastic "

My hubby and I went to this hotel despite having read reviews of the horrible shabby carpets(!) and had the best holiday we have ever had, the hotel is gorgeous, the room was really big and very clean and such a comfy bed, i slept better than I do at home :) The restaurant was excellent and the wine was great, all the staff were really friendly and lovely - we have been on holiday all over the place and I can't really find anything wrong with this hotel at all - and about the carpets, they were being replaced with beautiful marble tiles when we were there and it will look fabulous when it is finished - who goes on holiday to moan about the carpets!!!! anyway I am just about to book up for us to go for 2 weeks in October and we are going to take our 3 kids with us this time - you couldn't get a better hotel for the kids, there was so much for them to do, crazy golf, tennis, bowls, a playpark, a beach across the road, a disco and entertainment at night and a lovely well equipped kids club, what more could you ask for WE LOVED IT

Advice: lovely resort, beautiful beaches, restaurants and shops, friendly people

Activities: The Italian in the square (forgot the name) Orient Express bar (gorgeous food, lovely music)

Good for: Beach

" unbelievable "

I stayed at the Occidental Allegro Oasis in November last year after going for the first time in January for my partners 21st and i must say i dont really know what everyone is moaning about. You lot are unbelievable, year the carpets are old and have stains in parts of the area but whoopy do. The hotel has hundreds of people walking through it every day no wonder the carpets are worn out. It doesnt stop you having a great holiday. The food is delicious, the staff are friendly and would do anything for you, the entertainment on an evening could be changed fopr people staying 2 weeks but we had a fantastic holiday, im actually looking to go again at the end of this year.
There were 8 of us altogether with 2 children and it was just the best holiday, the kids loved it there was loads to do for them and they were very well looked after by Claudia and Jenny in the kids club.
The rooms were cleaned daily and yes the carpets are slightly worn but you sleep in your room and get ready to go out, i dont understand why this is a big deal, if the floors were tiled you most likely moan because they were cold or slippy.
If you want 10* then book to go to Dubai or places like that.
The Occidental is fab so stop moaning.

Advice: It is a fantastic holiday and look beyond the carpets.

" Don't listen to moaners!! "

I am writing a reveiw out of principal, as I would never normally dream of doing so, but having read the reviews before I went, I was somewhat dreading the holiday as a result! I feel compelled to do so................
This hotel is great and I had a great holiday as did my family. Yes, I will admit there was a bit of fading on the carpets in places but so what!!?? If that is going to ruin your holday it doesn't say much about you. The food was great, lots of choice, hotel staff very friendly. I really don't have any complaints. This is a very family orientated hotel in a lovely resort. I wouldn't hesitate to go back!
So all you moaners out there, if you want 5* luxury, pay 5* luxury prices and you might then be happy. I thought this hotel was great value for money!!

" occidental allegro oasis  "

I have been to the canary islands about 14 times now and i have to say the best holidays i have ever had there was at this hotel, as i have have been to it five times because me and my family like it so much. And all the times i've been there i've met lots of people who have come again and again for years as they like the hotel so much.
I think the main things that should be really appreciated about this hotel is how clean it is, how friendly the staff are, the really great atmosphere and energy maintained, the good facilities and activities and the good quality of the food and drink.
I have read all these reports which are full of complaints especially about the state of the hotel but in all fairness i really don't agree and all the times i've been there i don't think i've heard anybody complain. Yes maybe some of the rooms may need touching up slightly if that but thats where it stops and i have to say the rooms are always cleaned to perfection with fresh sheets and towels. Overall the rooms are of a very good size and are spacious and the bathroom is modern with a very good powershower (however i would say that the quality of the twin rooms are slightly better than the family rooms if your children are not all that young)
I don't think i have been anywhere else where the staff are so friendly and they literally never stop working and they are always well presented and are always ready to help and speak to you, which really helps you feel welcome at the hotel.
The hotel is suitable for children and teenagers of all ages as all the times we have been there when our children have been small and teenagers they have always had fun and wanted to stay longer due to all the activities done by the fun club, who are also very friendly and in the hotel you always feel like your children are really safe and there is something for them to do. The pools at the hotel are also always very clean and they are of a really good size.
The food and drink at the hotel is excellent and you can't fault it, the bar staff are very efficient and so are the staff working in the dining area as they are always there to collect the dirty plates and making sure everything is alright for you.
Just behind the hotel there is also a lovely quiet beach where you can just relax or go in the water and see the tropical fish.
Overall i would really reccommend this hotel for people of all ages who just want to go somewhere for a week or two and just chill and relax in the sun and it is really even less effort than another holiday becuase you literally don't even have to spend a penny there and you don't have the worry of going out to dinner everynight etc. Ignore all the negative reports about this hotel because i think it is certainly worth going here if you think the relaxing sort of holiday is for you.

" Occidental - More Like Accidental "

We booked this as a girls week away and from the Thomas Cook brochure it looked fine - was 4* hotel - should have been 2 star - like a grotty B&B in Blackpool. The room had cream carpet covered liberally in vomit stains, this was the case for the other 2 rooms we were offered after complaining. The furniture was old and falling apart. The reception area was nice but the rest of the hotel really needs revamped. All old worn out carpets - very very tatty. After much complaining the Manager offered us his apartment for the week - which was very nice - Thomas Cook rep told us that there had been cheap deals from England offered for this hotel and as it was cheap you don't expect much - we paid £500 each to fly from Northern Ireland - certainly not cheap. Food was ok. Definitely wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. Thomas Cook should be investigated by the Trading Standards Authority for false advertising.

Advice: Very quiet - not much going on - plenty of tat for sale.

" Not a 4* "

We have just returned from the Occidental, and doubt we would consider staying there again.
The food was not very imaginative, and much the same throughout our stay.
This was classed as a 4*but we classed it as a 3*, shabby carpets, cramped areas for sunbathing, plastic chairs to sit on in the bar area at the pool side, it certainly needs a good refurbish to reach the 4* it cliams it is.

" holiday let down "

Would not recommend a stay at this Hotel.Went there to celebrate my Husbands 65th Birthday. Carpets are thread bare, stained and spliting at the edges. Chairs in the dining room are stained and dirty. The food is repetative and lacks choose. There was a bus ticket on the lower shelf of bedroom cabinet dated 27th Aug 2008 so proves it had not been cleaned since then.Carpets in the bedroom were stained and covered by rugs.
Many guests were complaining about the state of the place. definately would not advise staying there. Have atayed in much better 2 star hotels than this

" Been there 3 times and this will be... "

Been there 3 times and this will be my 4th time. Have stayed at some lovely 5 star and 4 star hotels across the world and really love the occidental oasis, never had a problem with food, entertainment etc with or with out little ones as its always been a lovely hotel. of course all hotels have little down sides but its no where near wat people are saying. if people are complaining about a bit of mould on tiles etc then book a 5 star.... have been in many 5 star hotels which arnt as good as this one but have not been to the occidental for 3 years. having a little break in nov there for 4 days......

" We have just returned from a... "

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday in this hotel and loved every minute of it. Yes I agree it`s past it`s prime, I understand it was once a 5 star. The reception was glorious and our room magnificent. We even had a separate dressing area with double sinks, my husband and I were very impressed. The food is a bit of a problem same old same old, day in and day out, and we also felt the lunch time leftovers were re used at night. The staff were friendly and helpful at all times. Nothing was too much trouble. The Thomas Cook rep Laura was lovely so helpful and full of knowledge. Costa Teguise is one of the quieter resorts at night, though still lively. For those who want clubs Playa del Carmen is the place for you. For us though, we love Teguise its quaintness and the people, although this was our first stay at this particular hotel, and we would use it again.

" We have just returned from this joke... "

We have just returned from this joke of a Hotel, Oh yes it has a nice reception area, but thats where the niceness ends.

THE POOLS are very very cold as well as always very very dirty, there was a green slime around the pool walls every day as well as a slimy film in the corners of the actual water.

THE STAFF are very rude and lazy, they give the impression that you are not welcome unless you are spanish.

The pool area was a mess all day, the tiling was dangerous around the pool with sharp edges exposed to your feet, my daughter actually cut her toe.

THE FOOD is very poor quality for a 4* hotel, I would agree with previous comment that the food was re-cycled as well as re-heated. We had one decent meal in the grill.

We did complain that our toilet leaked to the reception and the so called Rep, to our amazement when we returned to our room a towel had been rolled up and placed behind the toilet. There was always a smell of sewage in the room and the air conditioning was a joke.

I have to say that we did both the catalanza and the submarine safari which were both excellent and I would recommend these trips to all.

This hotel was clearly "Grand" in it's day, but, that is not the case now, The place needs to be gutted.

We have gone as far as to make an official complaint to Thomas cook with photos of our hotel from hell.

AVOID THIS HOTEL IF YOU HAVE ANY SENSE!

A big hello goes to our new friends Ian, Susan and charlotte from Newcastle-upon-tyne

" Having just returned from the... "

Having just returned from the occidental oasis on Aug 7th 2008 I just thought I would add a few comments. We booked our holiday with thomas cook,it was our first holiday abroad for 20yrs and our silver wedding whilst we were there so we asked Thomas Cook for guidance with our choice of hotel, how wrong could we be??We found ourselves in a somewhat shabby hotel with a strong smell of urine in corridors and our room{room 520}the upper blanket on my bed had a large brown stain which was there when we arrived and was still there on our departure even tho it was left exposed for maid to see,,thank goodness the temp was hot so blanket not needed.
FOOD..what can i say,you wont go hungry as there are chips at every meal, even breakfast and you can always fill up on bread and salad. It seemed to me that whatever wasnt eaten during lunchtime was chopped up and added to the rice at evening meal, the meals were beef stew at least four times in a week.We went to the grill for our anniversary meal and that was no better in fact my husband ate nothing at all!oh and tripe was also on the menu.If you want fresh orange juice then you have to ask a waiter and it costs 3euros a glass, but be prepared for a wait.
ENTERTAINMENT..this consisted of acrobatics, acrobatics and more acrobatics!no variation at all,the worst thing was that you knew exactly what was coming the second week. However if you have got children then this is probably the place for you as they were entertained and seemed to have a good time .The adult entertainment lasted for 45minutes and was usually over by 10.45 ,then the bar shut at 11.30 and lights out by midnight!!
STAFF..the staff at reception were faultless, really helpful and always pleasant but the same cannot be said about the rest of the staff RUDE is the only word we can think of..unkess you are spanish or a child you may as well be invisible. If they could get away with jestures rather than speakng to you they would.
TRIPS..we went to the meeting the morning after we arrived and we booked 3 trips which cost 372 euros excluding food.We did the caves, volcano and submarine safari. If you find steps a problem then the caves could be a problem as there are lots of steps and narrow spirally stairwells to go up and down and it is a 2km walk into the cave and 2km back some of which you have to stoop as you are walking. The volcano trip includes a ride on camels ,this would have probably been enjoyable if we could have eaten in the restaurant at the volcano and spent some time there.however we were at the volcano for probably 10mins max and then whisked away to grotty cafe for food.Submarine safari was well worth going on!not claustrophobic at all'definately best trip!
COSTA TEGUISE..If you decide to go into town to get away from hotel thurs night the town is dead,as this is the main day for arrivals and departures.Taxi ride to town is 3euros if you dont fancy the 40min walk,or there is a bus stop outside.Scottish bar is gd for chilling and karaoke there was entertaining, the lighthouse was good for meals and also had good meal at chinese restaurant. We also had good time at the irish bar called the snug .
We also read the reviews but after we booked our holiday and I must say that i thought...well you just get some people that like to complain about everything and that shabby carpets and rusty baths wouldnt be enough to spoil our holiday..but it was a lot more than that ,It was the sheer rudeness and arrogance of the staff which you can't really get away from on an all inclusive holiday.
hello to the couple we met from Derby,Richard and Pat

Hope whoever reads this, reads it before they book occidental oasis!

" This is simply the worst 4 star... "

This is simply the worst 4 star establishment. When reception asked if we needed help with the bags and then offered to lend us a trolley we knew we were in trouble. The family room had an infestation of ants, the carpets were dirty and the furniture chipped and worn.

If you want an hotel where nobody clears the dishes between courses and then tries to take away unfinished meals, where only plastic cups are allowed near the pool with insects to share your room then this is the place for you.
